In this paper, the reverse-link performance of synchronous DS-CDMA cellular networks is investigated in Rician multipath fading environments. The system's performance is evaluated in terms of the achievable average bit error rate BER) and the user capacities of two different network layouts, namely those of a uniform grid of hexagonal multiple cells and a single isolated cell. In the multiple-cell scenario, the impact of the other cells' interference on the attainable capacity of the synchronous DS-CDMA uplink is investigated. Upon comparing both networks to a conventional asynchronous CDMA system, we demonstrate an achievable user capacity gain of $25\%$ to $56\%$ for synchronous uplink transmissions over that of the corresponding asynchronous transmission scenario at BER = $10^{-3}$.
Communication systems, including cell-based mobile communication systems, multiple satellite communication systems of multi-beam satellite systems, require reliable handoff methods between cell-to-cell, satellite-to-satellite of beam-to-team, respectively. Recent measurement of a CDMA cellular system indicates that the system is in handoff at about 35% to 70% of an average call period. Therefore, system reliability during handoff is one of the major system performance parameters and eventually becomes a factor in the overall system capacity. This paper presents novel and improved techniques for handoff in cellular communications, multi-beam and multi-satellite systems that require handoff during a session. this new handoff system combines the soft handoff mechanism currently implemented in the IS-95 CDMA with code and packet diversity combining techniques and an iterative decoding algorithm (Turbo Coding). the Turbo code introduced by Berrou et all. has been demonstrated its remarkable performance achieving the near Shannon channel capacity [1]. Recently. Turbo codes have been adapted as the coding scheme for the data transmission of the third generation international cellular communication standards : UTRA and CDMA 2000. Our proposed encoder and decoder schemes modified from the original Turbo code is suitable for the code and packet diversity combining techniques. this proposed system provides not only an unprecedented coding gain from the Turbo code and it iterative decoding, but also gain induced by the code and packet diversity combining technique which is similar to the hybrid Type II ARQ. We demonstrate performance improvements in AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with perfect channel state information (CSI) through simulations for at low signal to noise ratio and analysis using exact upper bounding techniques for medium to high signal to noise ratio.

In this paper, the reverse link performance of a imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA cellular system that uses a base station array antenna which can effectively remove the multiple access interference is analyzed considering both beam forming algorithm and power control error in shadowing. The blocking probability of the DS/CDMA cellular system based on array parameters, $E_b/N_o$ and statistics of interference is derived, and then the system capacity corresponding to a certain blocking probability is calculated. On the assumption that the blocking probability is set 1%, the system capacity using MCGM algorithm with 12 antenna arrays is more increased maximum 32 times than that using a omni-directional antenna and about 2 times than that using MMSE algorithm, respectively.

Recently smart phone and tablet PC are regarded as the most valuable mobile devices, so the demand of customers for multimedia supporting has been greatly increased. The network operators are now considering the deployment of relay stations ensuring low installation costs for its service cell to improve the cell capacity. Enhancing the relay stations, however, increases intra-cell interference, which is affecting the quality of service and outage ratio. In this paper, we present MPFR(Multihop Partial Frequency reuse) as the new frequency reuse scheme to increase cell throughput while maintaining low outage ratio for the OFDMA cellular multihop networks. Dynamic power control is also introduced to improve cell capacity. Overall cell throughput and outage ratio are observed by the simulation, and comparison between MPFR and conventional multihop frequency reuse schemes is convincing the performance enhancement.

Cilia are highly specialized organelles that extend from the cell membrane and function as cellular signaling hubs. Thus, cilia formation and the trafficking of signaling molecules into cilia are essential cellular processes. TULP3 and Tubby (TUB) are members of the tubby-like protein (TULP) family that regulate the ciliary trafficking of G-protein coupled receptors, but the functions of the remaining TULPs (i.e., TULP1 and TULP2) remain unclear. Herein, we explore whether these four structurally similar TULPs share a molecular function in ciliary protein trafficking. We found that TULP3 and TUB, but not TULP1 or TULP2, can rescue the defective cilia formation observed in TULP3-knockout (KO) hTERT RPE-1 cells. TULP3 and TUB also fully rescue the defective ciliary localization of ARL13B, INPP5E, and GPR161 in TULP3 KO RPE-1 cells, while TULP1 and TULP2 only mediate partial rescues. Furthermore, loss of TULP3 results in abnormal IFT140 localization, which can be fully rescued by TUB and partially rescued by TULP1 and TULP2. TUB's capacity for binding IFT-A is essential for its role in cilia formation and ciliary protein trafficking in RPE-1 cells, whereas its capacity for PIP2 binding is required for proper cilia length and IFT140 localization. Finally, chimeric TULP1 containing the IFT-A binding domain of TULP3 fully rescues ciliary protein trafficking, but not cilia formation. Together, these two TULP domains play distinct roles in ciliary protein trafficking but are insufficient for cilia formation in RPE-1 cells. In addition, TULP1 and TULP2 play other unknown molecular roles that should be addressed in the future.

Geocell is a three dimensional cellular confinement system that forms a reocomposite mattress with infill material to increase the bearing capacity dramatically rather than geotextiles of nonwoven and woven fabric type and geogrid. In terms of design, this geocell confinement is quite complex to assess and is different in its hieoretical evaluation and its concept from other geosynthetic products. Thsi study is aimed to help a basic understanding on Geoweb system, which is known to be the most effective and easiest in handling among the geocell systems ever developed, by introducing two method of interpretation for the improvement of bearing capacity. Thus the writers are sillingly to help the geotechnical engineers and the site engineers who might be encountered with the bearing capacity problems on site.

A scheme for selecting the mode with the maximum system capacity is proposed for cooperative relaying. Three possible modes are presented based on decode-and-forward relaying, and the time required by each mode is evaluated. Based on these results, a method is then developed for selecting the optimal mode with the minimum time duration (or maximum channel capacity). Computer simulations confirm that the optimal mode outperforms the other modes.
This paper briefly explains the configuration of CDMA Mobile System (CMS) test bed. The measured fading and delay results of CDMA signal in Taejon area are shown. In comparison to other cellular systems, there are more parameters in the CDMA systems that affect system performance and capacity. We performed the optimization test of the selected parameters and present the effect of each parameter on the performance. This paper presents the capacity and performance test results of CMS. The capacity test was performed on ETRI site of three sectors in Taejon area. The performance tests include call completion rate, busy hour call attempt, and the delay characteristics of voice.
The present study was attempted to investigate the antioxidant capacity of popular yellow-green vegetable juices (kale, Angelica keishei, carrot, small water dropwort) and to investigate the effect of vegetable juices on protecting oxidative damage to DNA in cultured Chinese hamster lung (CHL) cells. Antioxidant capacity was analyzed by TRAP assay (Total radical-trapping antioxidant potential). Cellular DNA dmamage was measured by SCGE (single-cell gel electrophoresis, also known as comet assay. Cells incubated in medium with PBS (negative control) or with various concentration of the freeze dried green juices (25, 50, 100, 250 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$) resuspended in PBS were treated with $H_2O_2$ (200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) as an oxidative stimulus for 5 min at 4$^{\circ}C$. The physiological function of each vegetable juice on oxidative DNA damage was analyzed and expressed as tail moment (tail length X percentage migrated DNA in tail) . Kale juice had the highest TRAP value suggesting that kale has the highest antioxidant capacity followed by Angelica keishei, small water dropwort and carrot. Cells treated with $H_2O_2$ had extensive DNA damage compared with cells treated with PBS or pre-treated with vegetable juice extracts. All green juices inhibited $H_2O_2$-induced DNA damage with kale being the most effective juice among the tested juices. These results indicate that green juice supplementation to CHL cells followed by oxidative stimulus inhibited damage to cellular DNA, supporting a protective effect against oxidative damage induced by reactive oxygen species. Cellular Foundation Mattress made of new materials such as high density polyethylene, are not currently use for the foundation of small and medium-sized buildings in Korea. Therefore, they need to be developed and verified based on domestic ground and field conditions. This study presents the basic design and construction method of Cellular Foundation Mattress. Since the foundation reinforcement effect of Cellular Foundation Mattress should be evaluated and verified for soft ground, a performance comparison evaluation was conducted using the Soilbag method, which is commonly used for the foundation of small and medium-sized buildings in Korea. After the mattress reinforcement, the settlement amount decreased by 38.4% compared to the original ground and the bearing capacity increased by 159%, confirming the same ground reinforcement effect and ground stability as the Soilbag method.
