  • In this paper, we consider the problem of realizing associative memories via cellular neural network(CNN). After introducing qualitative properties of the CNN model, we formulate the synthesis of CNN that can store given binary vectors with optimal performance as a constrained optimization problem. Next, we observe that this problem's constraints can be transformed into simple inequalities involving linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Finally, we reformulate the synthesis problem as a generalized eigenvalue problem(GEVP), which can be efficiently solved by recently developed interior point methods. Proposed method can be applied to both space varying template CNNs and space-invariant template CNNs. The validity of the proposed approach is illustrated by design examples.

  • In this paper, a power divider with a multi-band and broadband are designed and fabricated using an InGaP/GaAs process. The design of this divider is based on multi-band because it is important in the next generation IMT-Advances system. In this design, power divider is fabricated with the frequency of 824 MHz to 894 MHz, 1.8 GHz to 2.2 GHz and 2.3 GHz to 2.4 GH for cellular, personal communication system (PCS) and Wireless Broadband Internet (WiBro). The topology of the designed power divider is based on the multi-section and fabricated using integrated passive device (IPD) library of nanoENS Inc. It is measured using network analyzer.

  • In recent years opportunistic computing has gained popularity in Ad-hoc network research area and it is highly required to research for actual services and related requirements. In this paper we summarized a virtual opportunistic service that is named "Children Care System" and proposed an Ad-hoc communication node (uMobile) that is connected with cellular phone and a sensor node (uClo) which is embedding into clothes. uMobile can support cellular phone communication and Ad-hoc communication and uClo can be embedded into clothes and recognize the user status using multiple sensors. In this paper we implemented the location awareness and user status awareness services using uMobile and uClo. We also tested them in indoor situation and showed the result. We expect that our research can play a significant role to inspire another various opportunistic computing services.

  • Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is a technology that attracts attention as a next-generation digital circuit design technology, and several digital circuits have been proposed in the QCA environment. Content-addressable memory (CAM) is a storage device that conducts a search based on information stored therein and provides fast speed in a special process such as network switching. Existing CAM cell circuits proposed in the QCA environment have a disadvantage in that a required area and energy dissipation are large. The CAM cell is composed of a memory unit that stores information and a match unit that determines whether or not the search is successful, and this study proposes an improved QCA CAM cell by designing the memory unit in a multi-layer structure. The proposed circuit uses simulation to verify the operation and compares and analyzes with the existing circuit.

  • According to the progress of an information-oriented society, more human friendly systems are required. The systems can be implemented by a kind of intelligent algorithms. In this paper we propose the possibility of the implementation of an intelligent algorithm from gene, behavior of human beings, which has some properties such as self organization and self regulation. The regulation of gene behavior is widely analyzed by Boolean network. Also the SORE (Self Organizable and Regulating Engine) is one of those algorithms. This paper does not report detailed research results; rather, it studies the feasibility of gene behavior in biocontrol systems based upon computer simulations.

  • Location area planning (LAP) problem is to partition the cellular/mobile network into location areas with the objective of minimizing the total cost in location management. The minimum cost has two components namely location update cost and searching cost. Location update cost is incurred when the user changes itself from one location area to another in the network. The searching cost incurred when a call arrives, the search is done only in the location area to find the user. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. This partitioning problem is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, we use particle swarm optimization (PSO) to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for 16, 36, 49, and 64 cells network. Experimental studies illustrate that PSO is more efficient and surpasses those of precious studies for these benchmarking problems.

  • This paper is the result of constructing information processing system such as living creatures' brain based on artificial life techniques. The living things are best information processing system in themselves. One individual is developed from a generative cell. And a species of this individual has adapted itself to the environment through evolution. In this paper, we propose a new method of designing neural networks using biological inspired developmental and evolutionary concept. Ontogeny of organism is embodied in cellular automata(CA) and phylogeny of species is realized by evolutionary algorithms(EAs). We call 'Evolving Cellular Automata Neural Systems' as ECANSI. The connection among cells is determined by the rule of cellular automata. In order to obtain the best neural networks in given environment, we evolve the arragemetn of initial cells. The cell, that is a neuron of neural networks, is modeled on chaotic neuron with firing or rest state like biological neuron. A final output of network is measured by frequency of firing state. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by applying it to Exclusive-OR and parity problem.

  • Home network system makes it available for controlling inside home and for controlling from outside as well with personal computer, cellular phone or smart phone, by connecting diverse information equipments within home such as lighting, gas, and heating equipments with network Integrated server and wall-pad, which form home network system, have demerits as saying of being high-priced and of needing to implement network infrastructure. Also, there is also risk, which is unavailable for controlling equipments inside home, or can cause malfunction of equipments given the occurrence of a problem about integrated server This study suggested the intelligent home network system, which uses smart phone of supplementing these merits of home network system. It substituted high-specification input & output equipment in the currently and widely supplied smart phone for display and touch screen, which are user interface part of the existing wall-pad, and suggest the common home network system by concentrating management and control function of home network on smart phone.

  • As there have recently been a rapid development in a supercomputer network infrastructure and an increase in the use of wireless terminals such as a PDA and cellular phone, people realize that it is highly required that they develope a various types of application services to integrate wireless network and engage them. On top of that, because current appliances are being converted into digital domestic appliances, and network and such appliances react upon each other, domestic appliances are now evolving to Internet appliances. Thus, people eager to establish a home network, which can offer a various sorts of services to customers because such appliances can share and send the data when such appliances are connected to power lines, telephone wires, and IEEE1394. Along with this, people are also enthusiastically conducting a study on Internet Application, which monitor and control the internet appliances triggered by connecting home network and supercomputer network. This study focuses on designing and developing an integrated wireless home server by effectively integrating wire and wireless network: It can approach and control each internet appliance connected with the home network inside and outside the house. In this study we also test it with an internet appliance simulator.

  • Mobile and telecommunication networking uses temporary and random identifiers (IDs) to protect user privacy. For greater intelligence and security o the communications between the core network and the mobile user, we design and build a dynamic randomization scheme for the temporary IDs for mobile networking, including 5G and 6G. Our work for ID randomization (ID-RZ) advances the existing state-of-the-art ID re-allocation approach in 5G in the following ways. First, ID-RZ for ID updates is based on computing, as opposed to incurring networking for the re-allocation-based updates, and is designed for lightweight and low-latency mobile systems. Second, ID-RZ changes IDs proactively (as opposed to updating based on explicit networking event triggers) and provides stronger security (by increasing the randomness and frequency of ID updates). We build on the standard cryptographic primitives for security (e.g., hash) and implement our dynamic randomization scheme in the 5G networking protocol to validate its design purposes, which include time efficiency (two to four orders of magnitude quicker than the re-allocation approach) and appropriateness for mobile applications.
