반응성 스파트링에 의한 PDP용 MgO 보호층 형성과 그 방전특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Discharge Characteristics and Formation of MgO Protection Layer for PDP by Reactive Sputtering)

  • MgO protection layer in ac PDP(plasma display panel) prevents the dielectric layer from ion bombarding in discharge plasma. The MgO layer also has the additional important role in lowering the firing voltage due to a large secondary electron emission coefficient. Until now, the MgO protection layer is mainly prepared by E-beam evaporation. In this study, MgO protection layer is prepared on dielectric layer of ac PDP cell by reactive R.F magnetron sputtering with Mg target under various conditions of oxygen partial pressure. Discharge characteristics of PDP is also studied as a parameter of MgO preparation conditions. The sputtered MgO shows the better discharge characteristics compared with MgO deposited by E-beam evaporator.

Photoprotective Effects of Minerals from Korean Indigenous Ores on UVA-irradiated Human Dermal Fibroblast

  • The photoprotective effects of minerals from Korean indigenous ores, consisting mainly of sericite, on UVA-irradiated human dermal fibroblast (HDF) were examined. Zymographic analysis showed that the treatment of the minerals significantly reduced the UVA-enhanced MMP-1 activity and mRNA level. The minerals also showed strong inhibitory effect on MMP-2 activity and mRNA expression. Moreover, the minerals were better than polyphenol in reducing MMP-1 and MMP-2 expressions. Notably, the minerals significantly enhanced collagen biosynthesis in the HDF. Inhibition of the elastase activity and protection against the oxidatively damaged HDF cell were also found in the presence of the minerals. Taken together, the ore minerals may be used as the potent photo-protective and anti-skin-aging ingredients which can prevent skin cell damage by UVA.

The protective effects of trace elements against side effects induced by ionizing radiation

  • Trace elements play crucial role in the maintenance of genome stability in the cells. Many endogenous defense enzymes are containing trace elements such as superoxide dismutase and metalloproteins. These enzymes are contributing in the detoxification of reactive oxidative species (ROS) induced by ionizing radiation in the cells. Zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium are main trace elements that have protective roles against radiation-induced DNA damages. Trace elements in the free salt forms have protective effect against cell toxicity induced by oxidative stress, metal-complex are more active in the attenuation of ROS particularly through superoxide dismutase mimetic activity. Manganese-complexes in protection of normal cell against radiation without any protective effect on cancer cells are more interesting compounds in this topic. The aim of this paper to review the role of trace elements in protection cells against genotoxicity and side effects induced by ionizing radiation.

한우 무손상 적혈구의 superoxide 및 과산화수소 제거능력 (Scavenge of superoxide and hydrogen peroxide by bovine intact red blood cells)

  • The ability of bovine intact red blood cells to scavenge superoxide and hydrogen peroxide by superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase was investigated. Intact red cells(up to 0.4%) suspensions did not inhibit ferricytochrome c reduction by superoxide in the superoxide generating system. On the other hand, intact red cell(0.4%) suspensions almost completely inhibit ferrocytochrome c oxidation by hydrogen peroxide. The ability of intact red cells to scavenge hydrogen peroxide was mainly attributed to either membrane bound catalase or glutathione peroxidase. The scavenge of hydrogen peroxide by 0.1~0.2% intact red cells showed a trend of dependence on mainly glutathione peroxidase. However, at blood cell concentration higher than 0.3%, the process depended upon peroxidase-independent scavengers like catalase. Enhancement of ferrocytochrome c oxidation by red cells treated with aminotriazole proved that the protection against hydrogen peroxide was due to catalase, while the protection in the presence of glutathione indicated scavenging effect of glutathione peroxidase against hydrogen peroxide.

Fabrication of Large-Area Photovoltaic Crystal with Modified Surface Using Trimethoxysilyl Propyl Methacrylate (TMSPM) for Solar Cell Protection

  • Protection of solar cell surface is important to prevent from dust, pollen, sand, etc. Therefore, development of large area antifouling film is urgent for high performance of solar cells. The surface of silica spheres was modified to fabricate large area antifouling film. The surface of monodisperse silica spheres has been modified with 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate (TMSPM) to fabricate large area photonic crystal. Although the surface modification of silica spheres with TMSPM has been failed for the base catalyst, the second trial using acid catalyst showed the following results. The FTIR absorption peak at $1721cm^{-1}$ representing C=O stretching vibration indicates that the TMSPM was attached on the surface of silica spheres. The methanol solution comprised of the surface modified silica spheres (average diameter of 380 nm) and a photoinitiator was poured in the patterned silicon wafer with the dimension of 10 cm x 10 cm and irradiated UV-light during the self-assembly process. The result showed large area crack and defect free nanostructures.

  • 노트북, 핸드폰, 디지털기기와 같은 휴대용기기의 급속한 발달과 함께 2차전지의 중요성이 점점 증가하고 있다. 근래에 들어서 반도체산업, 디스플레이기술, 2차전지가 3대 핵심 산업으로 여겨지고 있다. 특히, 스마트폰은 고성능화 되어가고 있지만, 2차전지가 따라가지 못하는 추세이다. 최근에는 배터리의 의한 발열로 인한 안정성 문제가 대두되었다. 본 논문에서는 이차전지와 보호회로에 대한 기술 동향을 조사 정리한다.

흰쥐 뇌하수체 Gonadotropes와 Somatotropes에서의 Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone 유전자 발현 (Rat Gonadotropes and Somatotropes Express Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone Gene in the Pituitary)

  • Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH)은 척추동물의 시상하부로부터 합성, 분비되어 시상하부-뇌하수체간의 문맥계를 통해 뇌하수체 전엽에 작용하여 Growth Hormone (GH)의 분비를 촉진한다. 시상하부에서 발현되는 일부 Releasing Hormone 들이 여러 시상하부외 조직에서도 검출되고 조직특이적인 기능을 수행한다는 사실이 여러 연구자들에 의해 밝혀졌다. 이러한 사실들을 배경으로 본 연구자는 GHRH가 흰쥐의 뇌하수체 전엽과 뇌하수체로부터 유래된 종양세포주들에서 발현될 가능성을 조사하였다. GHRH 펩타이드와 mRNA의 존재와 구조를 규명하기 위하여 뇌하수체와 배양 세포를 사용하여 GHRH immunocytochemistry, 방사면역측정법, GHRH PCR과 RNase protection assay를 시행하였다. Immunocytochemistry의 결과 gonadotrope (대형)와 somat-olactotrope (중간형)로 추정되는 세포들에서 GHRH 염색이 나타났고, Somatolactotrope성 종양세포인 GH3 cell 추출물에서 immunoreactive GHRH가 방사면역측정법으로 검출되었다. 3'rapid amplification of cDNA end (3'-RACE)를 시행한 결과, 흰쥐 뇌하수체에 GHRH transcript가 존재하고, 그 3'end 부분이 다른 조직내의 GHRH와 동일함을 확인하였다. GHRH RT-PCR에서도 뇌하수체와 종양세포주들인 $\alpha$T3 cell (gonadotrope성)과 GH3 cell에서 예상 산물들이 증폭되었다. RNase protection assay를 시행한 결과 난소절제에 의해 뇌하수체내 GHRH 유전자 발현이 증가됨을 확인하였다. 이상의 결과는 GHRH가 뇌하수체 전엽의 gonadotrope와 somatotrope에서 발현되고, paracrine 또는 autocrine조절물질로 작용하여 GH 분비 외에도 뇌하수체 전엽 세포들의 분화와 분열등에 관여함을 시사한다.

The MAP Kinase Kinase Gene AbSte7 Regulates Multiple Aspects of Alternaria brassicicola Pathogenesis

  • Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades in fungi are ubiquitously conserved signaling pathways that regulate stress responses, vegetative growth, pathogenicity, and many other developmental processes. Previously, we reported that the AbSte7 gene, which encodes a mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MAPKK) in Alternaria brassicicola, plays a central role in pathogenicity against host cabbage plants. In this research, we further characterized the role of AbSte7 in the pathogenicity of this fungus using ${\Delta}AbSte7$ mutants. Disruption of the AbSte7 gene of A. brassicicola reduced accumulation of metabolites toxic to the host plant in liquid culture media. The ${\Delta}AbSte7$ mutants could not efficiently detoxify cruciferous phytoalexin brassinin, possibly due to reduced expression of the brassinin hydrolase gene involved in detoxifying brassinin. Disruption of the AbSte7 gene also severely impaired fungal detoxification of reactive oxygen species. AbSte7 gene disruption reduced the enzymatic activity of cell walldegrading enzymes, including cellulase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, pectin methylesterase, polymethyl-galacturonase, and polygalacturonic acid transeliminase, during host plant infection. Altogether, the data strongly suggest the MAPKK gene AbSte7 plays a pivotal role in A. brassicicola during host infection by regulating multiple steps, and thus increasing pathogenicity and inhibiting host defenses.

Alternaria yunnanensis sp. nov., a New Alternaria Species Causing Foliage Spot of Rubber Tree in China

  • A new species of Alternaria causing leaf spots on the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) in Yunnan, China, was isolated, examined, and illustrated. Morphologically, it belongs to the section Porri of Alternaria, which produces relatively large conidia and a simple or branched, filamentous long beak. It is, however, characterized by conidiophores gradually enlarging near the apex into a clavate conidiogenous cell and long ellipsoid to obclavate, smoothwalled conidia with a long filamentous beak. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on ITS rDNA, GAPDH, and TEF1-alpha sequences demonstrate that the phytopathogen falls in the clade of the section Porri, being most closely related to A. sidae, A. sennae, A. deseriticola, A. cyamopsidis, A. rostellata, A. nitrimali, A. crassa, and A. thunbergiae.

무선 ATM셀 전송을 위한 부분 연쇄 부호화 기법의 성능분석 (Performances of wireless ATM cell transmission with partial concatenated coding)

  • 본 논문에서는 현재 광대역 고속네트워킹의 핵심기술인 비동기 전송방식(Asynchronous Transfer Mode: ATM)을 사용하는 통신 네트워크에서 무선채널을 이용하여 ATM 셀을 전송할 때에 비트오율 성능, 셀손실확률, 셀오류확률 및 네트워크 성능을 분석하였다. 무선 채널에서의 변조방식으로는 대역폭 효율을 높히기 위하여 16Star QAM방식을 적용하였으며, 무선 채널에서의 성능을 개선하기 위한 채널부호화 기법으로는 Reed-Solomon (R-S)부호, 길쌈부호, R-S/길쌈부호의 인쇄부호를 적용하였으며, 효과적으로 ATM셀을 전송하기 위한 UEP(unequal error protection) 부호화 방안으로 부분 연쇄부호를 제시하고 성능을 분석하였다. 이동 무선 통신채널의 특성인 도플러 영향과 라이시안 페이딩 모델을 고려하였고 수신단에서의 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 최대비 결합 방식의 다이버시티 기법을 적용하였으며, 네트워크 성능분석을 위하여는 무선 ATM셀의 셀 전송효율 및 지연시간을 분석하였다. 성능분석 결과로, 부분 연쇄부호를 적용시 기존의 부호화 기법들에 비하여 약 2dB 이상의 ATM 셀 손실 성능 향상을 기대할 수 있으며, 특별히 낮은 오류확률을 요구할 수록 좋은 성능을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 동일한 성능을 얻기 위하여 적용하는 부호화 기법의 오버헤드 비트를 줄일 수 있는 방안임을 확인하였다. 따라서, 부분연쇄부호와 같이 ATM 셀의 헤더와 payload 부분의 에러 보정능력을 달리 적용하는 부호화 기법을 채택하는 것이 미래의 이동통신망에서의 무선 ATM통신을 위한 유용한 전송방식으로 생각된다.
