A low temperature anode-supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell was developed. The anode-supported tube was fabricated using extrusion process. Then the electrolyte layer and the cathode layer were coated onto the anode tube by slurry dipping process, subsequently. The anode tube and electrolyte were co-fired at $140^{\circ}C$, and the cathode was sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$. The thickness and gas permeability of the electrolyte depended on the number of coating and the slurry concentration. Anode-supported tube was satisfied with SOFC requirements, related to electrical conductivity, pore structure, and gas diffusion limitations. At operating temperature of $800^{\circ}C$, open circuit voltage of the cell with gastight and dense electrolyte layer was 1.1 V and the cell showed a good performance of 450 mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

In present work, anode support for micro-tubular SOFC was fabricated with outer diameter of 3 mm and characterized with microstructure, mechanical properties and gas permeability. The microstructure of surface and cross section of a porous anode support were analyzed by using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) image. The gas permeability and the mechanical strength of anode support was measured and analysed by using differential pressure at the flow rates of 50, 100, 150 cc/min. and using universal testing machine respectively. The unit cell composed of NiO-YSZ, YSZ, YSZ-LSM/LSM/LSCF was fabricated and operated with reaction temperature and fuel flow rate and showed maximum power density of $1095mW/cm^2$ on the condition of $800^{\circ}C$. The performance of single cell for micro-tubular SOFC increased with the increasing the reaction temperature due to the decrement of ohmic resistance of cell by the increment of the ionic conductivity of electrolyte through the evaluation of electrochemical impedance analysis for single cell with reaction temperature.
To determine whether indol-3-carbinol (BC, $C_9H_9NO$), an autolysis product of a glucosinolate and a glucobrassicin in vegetables, regulated tight junction proteins (TJ) and suppressed cell invasion in colon cancer cells, this experiment was performed. Our results indicate that I3C inhibit cell growth of HT-29 cells in a dose (0, 50, $100{\mu}M$) and time (0, 24 and 48h) dependent manner. Using the wound healing and matrigel invasion study, respectively, BC inhibits the cell motility and invasion of the ovarian cancer cell line. The TEER values were increased in HT-29 cells grown in transwells treated with BC, reversely, paracellular permeability was decreased in those of condition. Claudin-1, claudin-5, ZO-1 and occuldin have been shown to be positively expressed in HT-29 coloncancer cells. I3C occurs concurrently with a significant decrease in the levels of those of proteins in HT-29 cells. But E-cadherin level in the HT-29 was increased by I3C. The reduction of claudin-1 and claudin-5 protein levels occurred post-transcriptionaly since their mRNA levels are no difference by I3C. Therefore, our results suggest that I3C may be expected to inhibit cancer metastasis and invasion by tighten the cell junction and restoring tight junction in colon cancer cell line, HT-29.
In order to develop the ion exchange membranes which would be used in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), the polysulfone polymer was sulfonated using chlorosulfonic acid (CSA) and trimethylchlorosilane(TMCS). It has been characterized in terms of ion conductivities, methanol crossover, swelling degree and ion exchange capacities for the heat untreated and treated membranes at $150^{\circ}C.$ Typically, the methanol permeability and ion conductivity at the mole ratio of 1.4 between polysulfone repeating unit and sulfonating agents showed $2.87{\times}10^{-7}\; cm^2/s$(without heat treatment), $1.52{\times}10^{-7}\; cm^2/s$(with heat treatment) and $1.10{\times}10^{-2}\; S/cm$(without heat treatment), $0.87{\times}10^{-2}\;$ S/cm(with heat treatment), respectively. After the mole ration of 1.4 both values indicated mild increase.
This manuscript deals with the investigation of the possibility of the crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes with both poly(styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) and 3-(trihydroxysilyl)-1-propanesulfonic acid (THS-PSA) for the fuel cell application. The studies were focused on the characterization of the resulting membranes through water content, thermal gravimetric analysis, ion exchange capacity, ion conductivity and methanol permeability measurements and then compared with the existing Nafion membrane. Typically, the ion conductivity lied in the range of $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-2}\;S/cm$ while the methanol permeability showed the range of $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-8}\;cm^2/s$.
Recent genome comparisons of E. coli B and K-12 strains have indicated that the makeup of the cell envelopes in these two strains is quite different. Therefore, we analyzed and compared the envelope proteomes of E. coli BL21(DE3) and MG1655. A total of 165 protein spots, including 62 nonredundant proteins, were unambiguously identified by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. Of these, 43 proteins were conserved between the two strains, whereas 4 and 16 strain-specific proteins were identified only in E. coli BL21(DE3) and MG1655, respectively. Additionally, 24 proteins showed more than 2-fold differences in intensities between the B and K-12 strains. The reference envelope proteome maps showed that E. coli envelope mainly contained channel proteins and lipoproteins. Interesting proteomic observations between the two strains were as follows: (i) B produced more OmpF porin with a larger pore size than K-12, indicating an increase in the membrane permeability; (ii) B produced higher amounts of lipoproteins, which facilitates the assembly of outer membrane ${\beta}$-barrel proteins; and (iii) motility- (FliC) and chemotaxis-related proteins (CheA and CheW) were detected only in K-12, which showed that E. coli B is restricted with regard to migration under unfavorable conditions. These differences may influence the permeability and integrity of the cell envelope, showing that E. coli B may be more susceptible than K-12 to certain stress conditions. Thus, these findings suggest that E. coli K-12 and its derivatives will be more favorable strains in certain biotechnological applications, such as cell surface display or membrane engineering studies.
The effect of gamma-ray on yeast cells Sacch. cerevisiae, and the leakage of cellular constituents such as carbohydrates, ribose, amino acids, inorganic phosphates and organic phosphates have been studied. The samples of yeast cells washed throughly and starved intensively, radiation effects were compared with those of control (un-starved), the irradiation dose rates are in the range from 24 Kr. up. to 480, Kr. The loss of 260m$\mu$. absorbing material, are also observed. Mechanisms of membrane damage by gamma-irradiation are discussed corelating to permeability changes and loss of substances, then active and passive transport process are also under considerations in discussion. The experimental results are as follows, 1. Carbohydrates of yeast cell leak out by gamma-irradiation, and amounts of loss increase proportionally as the increasing of radiation dose, curve of carbohydrates loss in starved cells is parallel with those of non-starved cells. 2. Ribose leak out less than that of carbohydrate from irradiated cell, the dose response curve of loss is straight and proportional to the increasing of radiation doses, slope of the curve is much lower than of carbohydrates. 3. Amino acids also leak out and the curve of losses to radiation is not proportional, it is revealed that there are little losses from yeast at lower doses of irradiation. 4. The losses of inorganic phosphates increase unproportionally to the increasing of irradiation doses, there are little leakage at the lower doses of irradiation. The losses of organic phosphates increase proportionally to the increasing of irradiation doses, and the amount of losses are much more than that of inorganic phosphate at lower doses of irradiation. 5. Leakage from irradiated yeast cells was shown to be due to passive transport process not an energy requiring process of ion transport. 6. Loss of 260 m$\mu$. absorbing material is little more than that of control yeast by the gamma-irradiation dose of 120K.r. and 240K.r.

Samul-Tang (SMT) has been used for nourishing of the blood, hematopoiesis as a herbal medicine history. The purpose of this study is to find out anti-allergic inflammatory reaction of SMT. To clarify the mechanism, the effect of SMT on vascular permeability of rat cutaneous tissue and histamine and cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-${\alpha}$) release from mast cells were observed. The results are the pretreatment with SMT significantly decreased the compound 48/80-induced degranulation and histamine release from RPMC, SMT also inhibited the anti-DNP lgE-induced increment of vascular permeability of rat cutaneous tissue. SMT significantly reduced the PMA plus A23187-induced increment of expression of IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-${\alpha}$ in HMC-1 Cell. The Present study provide evidence that SMT inhibits mast cell-derived inflammatory allergic reactions by blocking histamine release and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression, and suggest the mechanisms of action. Furthermore, in vivo and in vitro anti-allergic effect of SMT suggests a possible therapeutic application of this agent in inflammatory allergic diseases.
In this study, the flame retardant and physical properties of the expandable graphite/polyurethane foam composites were considered by the addition of expandable graphite. The tensile strength of expandable graphite/polyurethane foam composites decreased with the content of the expandable graphite and the analysis of cell shape by SEM has shown that as the expandable graphite content increases, the cell becomes uneven and collapses. As the results of the compressive strength, density and air permeability tests, it was found that density and as the content of the expandable graphite increased, the compressive strength of the composites increased but air permeability decreased. When the amount of expandable graphite was added at 10 phr or higher, the foam has excellent flame retardation performance. Analysis of the degree of diffraction by X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that as the content of the expandable graphite increased, the crystal peak of the graphite appeared near $2{\theta}=26^{\circ}$.
In the membrane forming process of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), drying and annealing heat treatment processes are required for performance and durability. In this study, the optimal annealing temperature for improving the durability of the polymer membrane was studied. It was annealed in the temperature range of 125~175 ℃, and thermal stability and hydrogen permeability were measured as basic data of durability at each annealing temperature. The electrochemical durability was analyzed by Fenton reaction and open circuit voltage (OCV) holding. The annealing temperature of 165 ℃ was the optimal temperature in terms of thermal stability and hydrogen permeability. In the Fenton reaction, the fluorine emission rate of the membrane annealed at 165 ℃ was the lowest, and the lifespan of the membrane annealed at 165 ℃ was the longest in the OCV holding experiment, confirming that 165 ℃ was the optimal temperature for the durability of the polymer membrane.
