칼납자루, Acheilognathus koreensis (어강, 잉어목) 자어의 표피돌기에 관한 조직학적 연구 (Histological Study of the Minute Tubercles on Larval Skin Surface of a Korean Endemic Bitterling, Acheilognathus koreensis (Pisces, Cyprinidae), with Its Larval Growth)

  • 한국 고유종인 칼납자루의 자어시기 표피에서 돌출되어 나타나는 미세돌기의 형태 및 분포를 자어의 발생단계에 따라 조직학적으로 조사한 결과 자어의 표피는 소형의 호염기성이면서 편평한 기저세포로 구성된 얇은 한 층의 세포층으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 표피층은 발생이 진행되면서 기저세포 위에 커다란 상피세포)로 구성된 2층이 형성된다. 이러한 커다란 상피세포는 단세포로서 비늘모양으로 난황낭 앞부분과 난황 부분에서 출현하여, 탄수화물테스트에 어떠한 반응을 보이지 않았다. 또한 자어의 몸통과 미병부에서는 흔적적인 상피세포가 존재한다. 이러한 두 종류의 상피세들은 미세돌기로 알려져 있다. 이러한 세포들은 부화 직후부터 부화 8일까지 수와 크기가 증가하지만 자어가 발달함에 따라 점점 감소를 반복하다 유영시기와 난황이 완전 흡수되는 시기인 부화 31일에 더 이상 존재하지 않는다.

니트릴 분해효소 생산균인 Rhodococcus erythropolis의 발굴 및 효소 특성 연구 (Characterization of Nitrile-hydrolyzing Enzymes Produced from Rhodococcus erythropolis)

  • 각종 니트릴 화합물은 키랄 의약품의 합성에 사용되는 유용한 중간체이다. 본 연구에서는 토양 분리균 중에서 4-chloro-3-hydroxy butyronitrile(CHBN)기질로부터 고지혈증 치료제인 Atorvastatin을 합성하는 데에 필요한 4-chloro-3-hydroxy butyric acid(CHBAc)를 생성하는 균주 2종류를 선발하였다. 16S rRNA 분석을 통해서 균 동정을 수행한 결과, 모두 Rhodococcus erythropolis에 속하는 것으로 밝혀졌으며, TLC 분석 결과로부터 CHBN 기질을 분해하는 효소는 니트릴 히드라타아제(NHase)와 아미다아제(amidase)인 것으로 추정되었다. 분리균의 CHBN 분해효소는 ${\varepsilon}$-카프로락탐에 의해서 발현이 유도되었으며, 균체와 세포 추출액에서 모두 기질 분해활성을 나타났다. 기존에 보고된 효소의 유전자 염기서열로부터 프리머를 제조하고 PCR을 수행함으로써 분리균으로부터 니트릴 히드라타아제와 아미다아제 유전자를 확보하게 되었다. 발굴된 유전자의 염기서열을 분석한 결과, 이미 보고된 Rhodococcus erythropolis의 니트릴 히드라타아제 ${\alpha}$-서브유니트과 ${\beta}$-서브유니트 및 아미다아제와 96% 이상의 상동성을 보였다. 따라서 CHBN기질은 분리균의 니트릴 히드라타아제와 아미다아제 효소에 의해서 아미(CHBAm)를 거쳐 산(CHBAc)으로 전환되는 것을 알게 되었다.

염료감응형 광전기화학 물분해 전지용 Tri-branched tri-anchoring organic dye 개발 (Tri-branched tri-anchoring organic dye for Visible light-responsive dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical water-splitting cells)

  • Photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems are promising methods of producing H2 gas using solar energy in an aqueous solution. The photoelectrochemical properties of numerous metal oxides have been studied. Among them, the PEC systems based on TiO2 have been extensively studied. However, the drawback of a PEC system with TiO2 is that only ultraviolet (UV) light can be absorbed because of its large band gap (3.2 - 3.4 eV). Two approaches have been introduced in order to use PEC cells in the visible light region. The first method includes doping impurities, such as nitrogen, into TiO2, and this technique has been extensively studied in an attempt to narrow the band gap. In comparison, research on the second method, which includes visible light water splitting in molecular photosystems, has been slow. Mallouk et al. recently developed electrochemical water-splitting cells using the Ru(II) complex as the visible light photosensitizer. the dye-sensitized PEC cell consisted of a dye-sensitized TiO2 layer, a Pt counter electrode, and an aqueous solution between them. Under a visible light (< 3 eV) illumination, only the dye molecule absorbed the light and became excited because TiO2 had the wide band gap. The light absorption of the dye was followed by the transfer of an electron from the excited state (S*) of the dye to the conduction band (CB) of TiO2 and its subsequent transfer to the transparent conducting oxide (TCO). The electrons moved through the wire to the Pt, where the water reduction (or H2 evolution) occurred. The oxidized dye molecules caused the water oxidation because their HOMO level was below the H2O/O2 level. Organic dyes have been developed as metal-free alternatives to the Ru(II) complexes because of their tunable optical and electronic properties and low-cost manufacturing. Recently, organic dye molecules containing multi-branched, multi-anchoring groups have received a great deal of interest. In this work, tri-branched tri-anchoring organic dyes (Dye 2) were designed and applied to visible light water-splitting cells based on dye-sensitized TiO2 electrodes. Dye 2 had a molecular structure containing one donor (D) and three acceptor (A) groups, and each ended with an anchoring functionality. In comparison, mono-anchoring dyes (Dye 1) were also synthesized. The PEC response of the Dye 2-sensitized TiO2 film was much better than the Dye 1-sensitized or unsensitized TiO2 films.

$SiO_2$가 유리섬유로 보강된 고분자 겔 전해질의 전기 화학적 특성에 미치는 영향 ([ $SiO_2$ ] Effect on the Electrochemical Properties of Polymeric Gel Electrolytes Reinforced with Glass Fiber Cloth)

  • 유리섬유(glass fiber cloth, GFC)가 보강제로 사용된 고분자 겔 전해질(polymeric gel electrolytes, PGEs)에 $SiO_2$를 첨가하여 전해질의 전기 화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 가소제로는 Ethylene carbonate(EC) , propylene carbonate(PC), diethyl carbonate(DEC)를, 리튬염으로는 $LiClO_4$를 고분자로는 polyacrylronitrile(PAN)과 poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoro propylene)(P(VdF-co-HFP))을 사용하여 $80\~90{\mu}m$의 두께로 전해질을 제조하였다. 제조된 전해질은 모두 상온체서 $10^{-3}S/cm$의 이온 전도도를 나타내었고, 4.8V까지 안정하였다. 리튬금속을 사용하여 제조된 셀의 임피던스 결과에서는 시간이 지남에 따라 모든 전해질이 부동태 피막의 성장으로 계면저항이 증가했으나, $SiO_2$첨가비율에 따라 뚜렷한 차이는 보이지 않았다. $LiClO_2$와 mesophase pitch-based carbon fiber(MCF)를 각각 양극과 음극으로 사용하여 제조된 겔의 임피던스에서는 $SiO_2$가 첨가되지 않은 셀의 옴 저항이 충전, 방전이 진행되는 동안 많은 변화를 보였으며, $SiO_2$가 첨가된 셀의 저항은 거의 변화되지 않았고, 계면의 변화도 적었다. 또한 방전용량에서도 $SiO_2$$20\%$가 첨가된 전해질이 0.2C의 방전속도에132mAh/g의 비 용량을 나타내었고, 2C의 방전속도에서$85\%$의 방전용량을 유지하였다.

Imaging Assessment of Visceral Pleural Surface Invasion by Lung Cancer: Comparison of CT and Contrast-Enhanced Radial T1-Weighted Gradient Echo 3-Tesla MRI

  • Objective: To compare the diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced radial T1-weighted gradient-echo 3-tesla (3T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) for the detection of visceral pleural surface invasion (VPSI). Visceral pleural invasion by non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can be classified into two types: PL1 (without VPSI), invasion of the elastic layer of the visceral pleura without reaching the visceral pleural surface, and PL2 (with VPSI), full invasion of the visceral pleura. Materials and Methods: Thirty-three patients with pathologically confirmed VPSI by NSCLC were retrospectively reviewed. Multidetector CT and contrast-enhanced 3T MRI with a free-breathing radial three-dimensional fat-suppressed volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) pulse sequence were compared in terms of the length of contact, angle of mass margin, and arch distance-to-maximum tumor diameter ratio. Supplemental evaluation of the tumor-pleura interface (smooth versus irregular) could only be performed with MRI (not discernible on CT). Results: At the tumor-pleura interface, radial VIBE MRI revealed a smooth margin in 20 of 21 patients without VPSI and an irregular margin in 10 of 12 patients with VPSI, yielding an accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and F-score for VPSI detection of 91%, 83%, 95%, 91%, 91%, and 87%, respectively. The McNemar test and receiver operating characteristics curve analysis revealed no significant differences between the diagnostic accuracies of CT and MRI for evaluating the contact length, angle of mass margin, or arch distance-to-maximum tumor diameter ratio as predictors of VPSI. Conclusion: The diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced radial T1-weighted gradient-echo 3T MRI and CT were equal in terms of the contact length, angle of mass margin, and arch distance-to-maximum tumor diameter ratio. The advantage of MRI is its clear depiction of the tumor-pleura interface margin, facilitating VPSI detection.

합곡(合谷), 삼음교(三陰交) 자침(刺鍼)이 백서(白鼠) 자궁(子宮) 운동(運動) 및 Cyclooxygenase-2 발현(發現)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of HapKok (LI-4) , SamUmGyo (SP-6) Acupuncture on Uterine Motility and Cyclooxygenase-2 Manifestation in Rats)

  • By the activation of ovary hormone, many morphological changes occur in the epithelial cell lines and muscle cells in rat uterus. These two cells in uterus are important to the implantation of embryo, maintaining pregnancy and starting parturition. One important change associated with the morphological change of these two cells in uterus is the change on prostaglandin(PG) metabolism. Its presence and synthesis in endometriurn and myometrium in uterus affects estrous cycle and the start of embryo implantation in uterus. It also performs as an important modulator in parturition. So the abnormally weak expression of PG causes difficulty during labor and over-expression causes pre-term labor. PG biosynthesis starts from either free or liberated arachidonic acids from membrane phospholipid by phospholipase. Such arachidonic acids are converted into PG catalyzed by Cyclooxygenase. Under normal physiological condition, Cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1) having 602 units of amino acids controls the synthesis of PG. It acts as a local hormone regulating vasomodulation of blood flow, flexible muscle movement, increasing the blood permeability and contributing the protective role in preserving integrity of the stomach lining and Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is induced by the inflammation, pregnancy and increased its expression until parturition. Lipid metabolite like PG is located in uterine and expression of COX-2 increased with pregnancy. Increased expression of COX proteins in epithelial cells and myometrial cells are told to increase the muscle contractility in uterus but decreased right after the labor in rat. It is a good sign indicating that COX proteins are deeply related to the start of labor. Currently, Several studies report the use of PG and COX-2 inhibitor as medication for controlled abortion or to prevent pre-term labor but they entail various side-effects. Our study proposed to suggest use of acupuncture as an another mediator to control abortion or pre-term labor without causing unnecessary side-effects by those medicines. Two acupuncture sites, LI-4 & SP-6 were selected due to their known efficacy. From the immunohistochemical staining of COX-2, normal expression of COX-2 protein in nonpregnant SD rat's uterus revealed that COX-2 protein was primarily detected in the lumina epithelial lining and in the epithelial cell lining contacting the stromal cells. High resolution optical microscopic scanning revealed distinguishable staining in the myometrial mucosa. LI-4 acupuncture administered nonpregnant rat's uterus showed strong expression for COX-2 in endometrium contacted with lumina epithelial lining of rat uterus and in myometrial mucosa. Stromal cells showed more staining than untreated nonpregnant rat's uterus and stronger staining in stromal cells contacting myometrial layer compared to untreated nonpregnant rat's uterus. SP-6 acupuncture administered nonpregnant rat's uterus showed weak expression for COX-2 in myometrial layers and stromal cells but no staining was visible in lumina epitheliai and glandular epithelial cells. Few stromal cells and myometrial mucosa were positively stained for COX-2. Pregnant SD rat's uterus was also immunostained for COX-2 expression after 18 days of pregnancy. Unlike to untreated nonpregnant rat's uterus, luminal epithelial cells were not positively stained for COX-2 but stronger staining for COX-2 was revealed in stromal cells. LI-4 acupunctured SD rat's uterus had very strong expression of COX-2 in luminal epithelial lining. Few stromal cells showed stronger positive COX-2 staining and myometrial layers also showed more expression than untreated pregnant rat. SP-6 acupuncture administered pregnant SD rat's uterus showed positive expression of COX-2 in epithelial cells of luminal mucosa layer but weaker than that of LI-4 acupuncture treatment's case. However, strong positive staining was revealed in stromal mucosa and myometrial layers. Virgin SD rat's uterus motility index during LI-4 acupuncture was 66.52 % (Prob〉T = 0.0197) compared to its motility before the acupuncture treatment but the motility index was slighdy elevated up to 79.58 % (Prob〉T = 0.1175) after the acupuncture. During the SP-6 acupuncture treatment for 30 minutes, uterus motility index was 90.52 % (Prob〉T = 0.1832) showing lesser decrement but consequently reached similar motility index decreasal to 79.95 % (Prob〉T = 0.0215) after the acupuncture treatment as LI-4 showed. LI-4 acupuncture tend to be a quick treatment to reducing the uterus motility in a virgin rat but eventually both two acupuncture administration created very similar reduction of uterus motility seeing the index after the both acupunctures. The uterus movement monitored during the LI-4 acupuncture administered for 30 minutes, Pregnant SD rat showed decreased motility down to 77.90 % (Prob〉 T = 0.0076) compared to uterus motility before the acupuncture and it continuously decreased down to 71.81 %(Prob〉T = 0.0214) after the removal of needle. The statistical analysis using paired t-test showed significance difference for both two motility indexs at =0.05. SP-6 acupuncture administered to pregnant SD rat also had similar pattern of decreasing uterus motility index down to 74.70 % (Prob〉T = 0.1730) during the initial 30 minutes acupuncture administration and it was continuously lowered to 71.52 % (Prob〉T = 0.0155) after the acupuncture. The paired t-test resuit for SP-6 suggest prompt response of uterus motility index to the SP-6 acupuncture treatment but consequently reached same level of inducing the motility reduction as LI-4 at =0.05 level.

신경세포-신경교세포 공동배양을 이용한 성숙한 해마신경세포의 효율적인 형질전환 방법 (A Reliable Protocol for transfection of mature primary hippocampal neurons using a neuron-glia co-culture system)

  • 형질전환은 유전자의 기능을 이해하는데 매우 중요한 기법이다. $Ca^{2+}$-인산 침전법은 시간과 비용이 저렴하여 가장 흔히 사용된다. 그러나 성숙 신경세포는 어린 신경세포나 다른 세포종에 비하여 형질전환이 어렵고 쉽게 죽는다. 본 연구에서는 Clontech사의 $CalPhos^{TM}$ Mammalian Transfection 방법을 수정하여 성숙한 신경세포를 효율적으로 형질전환할 수 있는 방법을 고안하였다. 대뇌 신경교세포를 DMEM/10% 말혈청에서 70-80% confluence까지 키우고 배지를 혈청이 첨가되지 않은 Neurobasal/Ara-C로 바꾸어 주어 더 이상 신경교세포가 분열하지 않게 한 다음, 여기에 E19 해마신경세포를 접종하여 배양하였다. $DNA/Ca^{2+}$-인산 침전물은 Clontech사의 $CalPhos^{TM}$ Mammalian Transfection Kit을 이용하여 크기($0.5-1\;{\mu}m$ in diameter) 및 농도(약 10 particles/$100\;{\mu}m^2$)를 배지에서 배양시간을 변화시켜 적당히 조절하였다. 이렇게 하면 in vitro에서 2주 이상 배양한 신경세포도 24-well plate 한 well당 10-15개의 형질전환된 건강한 신경세포를 얻을 수 있었다. 이 방법의 효용성을 검증하기 위하여 연접단백질인 $EGFP-CaMKII{\alpha}$ 융합단백질과 RFP 단백질 유전자(각각 $pEGFP-CaMKII{\alpha}$ 및 pDsRed2)를 형질전환한 결과 전자는 점박이 모양, 후자는 세포전체에 퍼진 양상의 표현을 관찰할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구는 성숙한 신경세포를 효율적으로 형질전환할 수 있는 방법을 제공한다.

백서 상복부 혈관의 동결시간에 따른 변화에 대한 연구 (STUDY OF RAT EPIGASTRIC VESSELS ACCORDING TO THE FREEZING TIME : HISTOLOGIC, HISTOMORPHOMETRIC, IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL & SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC STUDY)

  • Vascular spasm which has been reported to occur in 25% of clinical cases continues to be a problem in microvascular surgery; When prolonged and not corrected, it can lead to low flow, thrombosis, and replant or free flap failure. Ischemia, intimal damage, acidosis and hypovolemia have been implicated as contributors to the vascular spasm. Although much work has been done on the etiology and prevention of vasospasm, a spasmolytic agent capable of firmly protecting against or reversing vasospasm has not been found. Therefore vascular freezing was introduced as a new safe method that immediately and permanently relieves the vasospasm and can be applied to microsurgical transfers. Cryosurgery can be defined as the deliberate destruction of diseased tissue or relief the vascular spasm in microvascular surgery by freezing in a controlled manner. 96 Sprague Dawley rats each weighing within 250g were used and divided into 2 group, experimental 1 and 2 group. In the experimental 1 group, right epigastric vessels (artery and vein) were freezed with a cryoprobe using $N_2O$ gas for 1 min. In the experimental 2 group, after freezing for 1 min, thawing for 30 secs and repeat freezing for 30 secs. Left side was chosen as control group in both group. We sacrified the experimental animals by 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks & 5 months and observed the sequential change that occur during regeneration of epigastric vessels using a histologic, histomorphometric, immunohistochemical and SEM study after the vascular freezing. The results were as follows1. In epigastric arteries, internal diameters had statistically significant enlargement in 1 day, 3 days of Exp-1 group and 1 day, 3 days, 1 week & 2 weeks of Exp-2 group. Wall thickness had statistically significant thinning in 2 weeks of Exp-2 group. 2. In epigastric veins, internal diameters had enlargement of statistical significance in 1 day of Exp-1 and Exp-2 group. 3. The positive PCNA reactions in smooth muscle appeared in 1 week and increased until 2 weeks, decreased in 4 weeks. There was no statistical significance between Exp-1 and Exp-2 group. 4. The positive ${\alpha}$-SMA reaction in smooth muscles showed weak responses until 1 week and slowly increased in 2 weeks and showed almost control level in 4 weeks. 5. The positive S-100 reactions in the perivascular nerve bundles showed markedly decrease in 1 day, 3 days and increased after 1 week and showed almost control level in 4 weeks. Exp-1 group had stronger response than Exp-2 group. 6. In SEM, we observed defoliation of endothelial cell and flattening of vessel wall. Exp-2 group is more destroyed and healing was slower than Exp-1 group. To sum up, relief of vasospasm (vasodilatation) by freezing with cryoprobe was originated from the damage of smooth muscle layer and perivascular nerve bundle and the enlargement of internal diameter in vessels was similar to expeimental groups, but Exp-2 group had slower healing course and therefore vessel freezing in microsurgery can be clinically used, but repeat freezing time needs to be studied further.

인태아 슬관절 발육에 관한 전자현미경적 연구 (An Ultrastructural Study on the Development of the Knee Joint in the Human Fetus)

  • 슬관절은 발생초 중간대에서 관절원판, 관절내인대 및 활액막세포들이 분화, 발육한다. 최근 관절경을 이용한 수술이 활발히 진행되고 있는 이때 관절내 구조들의 재생과정을 이해하기 위하여 이들의 발육과정을 전자현미경으로 관찰함은 매우 의의 있는 일이라 생각된다. 본 연구는 태생 초기부터 말기까지의 인태아를 대상으로 슬관절의 관절강 발생에서 중간대의 중간층세포의 운명과 활액막, 관절원판 및 관절내인대의 분화, 발육과정을 전자현미경으로 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 좌고 30mm(태령 9주)때 십자인대와 관절원판의 원기들이 출현하였고 초기 관절강은 40mm(태령 10주)때 중간대의 중간층이 연골형성층에 결합하여 출현하였다. 반월연골은 60mm(태령 12주)때 간엽세포에서 섬유모세포로 분화하였고 100mm(태령 15주)때 섬유모세포는 내측에서는 난원형을, 중간과 외측에서는 장타원형을 각각 취하였다. 260mm(태령 30주)때 교원섬유의 주행은 내측에서 평행히 달리고 중간에서는 평행 또는 방사상 방향을, 외측에서는 상호교차 방향을 하고 있었다. 십자인대는 30mm때 섬유모세포로 분화하였고 세포질에 조면내형질망과 사립체를 함유하고 있었다. 교원원섬유는 섬유모세포의 돌기내에서 출현하였다. 100mm때는 교원 원세포는 세포의 간격을 가득 채우고 있었다. 260mm때 섬유모세포는 난원형 또는 방추상 핵을 가지고 있었고 교원섬유를 싸고 있지 않았으며 교원원섬유는 평행 또는 파상 방향으로 달리고 있었다. 활액막은 관절강의 초기 출현과 동시에 발생하였고 관절강이 확대되는 60mm때는 A와 B세포로 구분되었다. 100 mm때 활액막세포는 B세포가 대다수였고 B세포는 세포질에 다량의 조면내형질망과 잘 발달된 골지복합체를 함유하고 있었고 A세포는 사상위족, 음소포, 용해소체 및 공포를 가지고 있었다. 260mm에도 B세포가 대다수 관찰되었다. 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. Estradiol benzoate를 4일간 매일 일정량을 투여한 흰쥐의 난관섬모세포내 $\alpha-tubulin$의 면역반응은 estradiol 투여후 1일, 3일 및 5일군에서 강한 반응을 나타내었다. 2.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with fwd complete blood count analyzers(Sysmex NE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data tansmission from analyzer to computer. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as Br.), and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased.To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. Portable electrical stimulator with 16 channels built in microprocessor was constructed and applied to paraplegic patients due to lumbar cord injury.
