  • We propose the schemes for the dynamic channel allocation (DCA) in multi-cell OFDMA systems to avoid co-channel interference (CCI) without the additional complexity. The allocatable subcarriers areas, which is designed to avoid CCI among cells, are determined for each cell. Each cell allocates the subcarriers within the allocatable subcarriers area of the cell independently. We consider the trade off between the reduced frequency selection diversity and the amount of CCI on a subcarrier by the determination of allocatable subcarriers area. Hence, the equal allocation bound scheme for the high selectivity channel and the flexible allocation bound scheme for the low selectivity channel are proposed. Through the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed schemes have better performance in the aspects of the number of overlapping allocated subcarriers, the capacity and the outage probability compared to the case which does not determined the allocatable subcarriers area.

  • A 16-month old female Golden retriever dog was presented with a 2-week history of left-sided exophthalmos, third eyelid prominence, some scale of the trunk, mild anorexia, mild diarrhea and depression. In radiographic findings, a mass with increased opacity in the left retrobulbar area was observed. Cytologic and histopathologic examinations after enucleation and mass excision showed diffuse round cell accumulation and adjacent small area of elongated cell proliferation were shown. They also illustrated the neoplastic cells with large nucleoli, multiple nucleoli that differ in size and scant cytoplasm with several clear vacuoles. Extent of local invasiveness and central necrosis of the retrobulbar mass was identified by magnetic resonance imaging. Based on the physical and laboratory examination, radiographic, cytologic and histopathologic findings this case was diagnosed as extranodal malignant lymphoma of the retrobulbar area.

  • The structure of skin of a mud loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus was described in relation with their histochemical nature from four regions of the skin. The epidermis has a strongly thick layer of two glandular cells, consisting of a elongate mucous cell and club cell, and a thin layer of superficial layer. The secretion of the elongated mucous cell was acid mucopolysaccharides in nature but the club cell did not give any histochemical reaction. A well defined lymphatic system, comprising small lymphocytes was present in the stratum germinativum layer of the epidermis. A pit organ of a pear-shaped structure was present below the epithelial cells and lie directly on the basement membrane. The organ has blood vessels serving the sense organs of the epidermis. There was a definite area showing acid mucopolysaccharides in the stratum laxum layer of the dermis. Small scales are present deep in the dermis except the top of the head. A great number of blood capillaries were found just under basement membrane. These structural features of skin in M. anguillicaudatus seem to be closely related with cutaneous respiration using air.

  • Surface floating air cathode microbial fuel cell (MFC) having horizontal flow was developed for the application of MFC technology. RVC (Reticulated vitreous carbon) coated with anyline was used as anode electrode and carbon cloth coated with Pt (5.0 g Pt/$m^2$, GDE LT250EW, E-TEK) was used as cathode electrode. As results of continuous operation with changing the flow rate from 4.3 mL/min to 9.5 mL/min, maximum power density of 4.5 W/$m^3$ was acquired at 5.4 mL/min, which was at 0.35 m/hr of flow velocity under anode electrode. When the ratio of cathode surface area to anode surface area($A_c/A_a$) was changed to 1.0, 0.5, and 0.25, the maximum power density of 2.7 W/$m^3$ was shown at the ratio of 1.0. As the ratio decreased from 1.0 to 0.25, the power density also decreased, which is caused by increasing the internal resistance resulted from reducing the surface area to contact with oxygen. Actually, internal resistances of the ratio of 1.0, 0.5, and 0.25 were 63.75${\Omega}$, 142.18${\Omega}$, and 206.12${\Omega}$, respectively.

  • Proliferation of Nocardia amarae cells in activated sludge has often been associated with the generation of nuisance foams. Despite intense research activities in recent years to examine the causes and control of Nocardia foaming in activated sludge, the foaming continued to persist throughout the activated sludge treatment plants in United States. In addition to causing various operational problems to treatment processes, the presence of Nocardia may have secondary effects on the fate of heavy metals that are not well known. For example, for treatment plants facing more stringent metal removal requirements, potential metal removal by Nocardia cells in foaming activated sludge would be a welcome secondary effect. In contrast, with new viosolid disposal regulations in place (Code o( Federal Regulation No. 503), higher concentration of metals in biosolids from foaming activated sludge could create management problems. The goal of this research was to investigate the metal sorption property of Nocardia amarae cells grown in batch reactors and in chemostat reactors. Specific surface area and metal sorption characteristics of N. amarae cells harvested at various growth stages were compared. Three metals examined in this study were copper, cadmium and nickel. Nocardia amarae strain (SRWTP isolate) used in this study was obtained from the University of California at Berkeley. The pure culture was grown in 4L batch reactor containing mineral salt medium with sodium acetate as the sole carbon source. In order to quantify the sorption of heavy metal ions to N amarae cell surfaces, cells from the batch reactor were harvested, washed, and suspended in 30mL centrifuge tubes. Metal sorption studies were conducted at pH 7.0 and ionlc strength of 10-2M. The sorption Isotherm showed that the cells harvested from the stationary and endogenous growth phase exhibited significantly higher metal sorption capacity than the cells from the exponential phase. The sequence of preferential uptake of metals by N. amarae cells was Cu>Cd>Ni. The specific surFace area of Nocardia cells was determined by a dye adsorption method. N.amarae cells growing at ewponential phase had significantly less specific surface area than that of stationary phase, indicating that the lower metal sorption capacity of Nocardia cells growing at exponential phase may be due to the lower specific surface area. The growth conditions of Nocardia cells in continuous culture affect their cell surface properties, thereby governing the adsorption capacity of heavy metal. The comparison of dye sorption isotherms for Nocardia cells growing at various growth rates revealed that the cell surface area increased with increasing sludge age, indicating that the cell surface area is highly dependent on the steady-state growth rate. The highest specific surface area of 199m21g was obtained from N.amarae cell harvested at 0.33 day-1 of growth rate. This result suggests that growth condition not only alters the structure of Nocardia cell wall but also affects the surface area, thus yielding more binding sites of metal removal. After reaching the steady-state condition at dilution rate, metal adsorption isotherms were used to determine the equilibrium distributions of metals between aqueous and Nocardia cell surfaces. The metal sorption capacity of Nocardia biomass harvested from 0.33 day-1 of growth rate was significantly higher than that of cells harvested from 0.5- and 1-day-1 operation, indicatng that N.amarae cells with a lower growth rate have higher sorpion capacity. This result was in close agreement with the trend observed from the batch study. To evaluate the effect of Nocardia cells on the metal binding capacity of activated sludge, specific surface area and metal sorption capacity of the mixture of Nocardia pure cultures and activated sludge biomass were determined by a series of batch experiments. The higher levels of Nocardia cells in the Nocardia-activated sludge samples resulted in the higher specific surface area, explaining the higher metal sorption sites by the mixed luquor samples containing greater amounts on Nocardia cells. The effect of Nocardia cells on the metal sorption capacity of activated sludge was evaluated by spiking an activated sludge sample with various amounts of pre culture Nocardia cells. The results of the Langmuir isotherm model fitted to the metal sorption by various mixtures of Nocardia and activated sludge indicated that the mixture containing higher Nocardia levels had higher metal adsorption capacity than the mixture containing lower Nocardia levels. At Nocardia levels above 100mg/g VSS, the metal sorption capacity of activate sludge increased proportionally with the amount of Noeardia cells present in the mixed liquor, indicating that the presence of Nocardia may increase the viosorption capacity of activated sludge.

  • This study was carried out to develop the stable plug seedling production for hydroponics of spinaches by various nursery media, plug tray size and seed number per plug tray cell. When plant grown in various nursery media, the seeding stand rate was shown in order of granular rockwool with good water retention, granular rockwool>granular rockwool mixed with pearlite>cocopeat>pearlite>poly urethane foame. Thus, poly urethane foame indicated the lower seedling stand rate. There was no difference in growth of the seedlings md the seeding stand rate by the plug tray size, and no significant difference in the plant height and the number of leaves among the seed number per plug tray cell. But, leaf area of plant in 2 grains seeding per cell was $113.0cm^2$, was wider in compared with 5 grains seeding of which leaf area was $88.0cm^2$. Accordingly, the leaf area per plant decreased as more and more the number of seeds per plug tray cell increased. The fresh weight of a plant per plug tray cell was the heaviest with 12.5g in the 2 grains, and the total fresh weight of plants per cell was 33.9g in 4 grains seeding, thus it tended to was bigger compared with other treatments. Consequently, given that the number of seeds per cell was decreased, the fresh weight of a plant increased. On the other hand, the total fresh weight per cell showed a tendency to be reducing as more and more the number of seeds per plug tray cell decreased. The yield in the 4 grains seeding was increased by 46% as $14,910kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ in compared with the yield in 2 grains seeding as $10,200kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$.

  • In this paper, an efficient butterfly structure for Radix-4 FFT algorithm using DA(Distributed Arithmetic) is proposed. It is shown that DA can be efficiently used in twiddle factor calculation of the Radix-4 FFT algorithm. The Verilog-HDL coding results for the proposed DA butterfly structure show $61.02\%$ cell area reduction comparison with those of the conventional multiplier butterfly structure. furthermore, the 64-point Radix-4 pipeline structure using the proposed butterfly and delay commutators is compared with other conventional structures. Implementation coding results show $46.1\%$ cell area reduction. Due to its efficient processing scheme, the proposed FFT structure can be widely used in large size of FFT like OFDM Modem.
