  • An emergency evacuation support system is used to maintain evacuation routes by pressurizing a space inside screens. In cases of fire, it is important to understand the thermal distributions in the tunnel for preventing system failure. In this study, we numerically investigated the effect of fire on an emergency evacuation support system in a large fabric store with some fire scenarios with different combustibles. The critical temperature for system failures was assumed to be $200^{\circ}C$. As a result, the highest temperature was predicted in the ceiling part due to the effect of a ceiling jet, and the fire safety of the screen was secured at distances of 20 to 30 m according to the heat release rate. To prevent the inflow of smoke into the system, it is necessary to maintain more than 5 Pa if positive pressure inside the smoke screen. The results of this study could be useful for designing an emergency evacuation support system.

  • Korea introduced the cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem for minimizing damage of ecosystem due to development projects and their effects and for preparing resources for natural environment conservation projects. Advanced countries have made efforts by expanding investment in natural environment conservation and restoring projects to promote prevention of global warming and improvement of biological diversity, are establishing nationwide strategies and plans. To examine the reality of projects by returns of the cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem, microsite projects in schools and public facilities take the largest share while their project budgets are only about 100~300 KRW, relatively small, which might be attributable to budget restrictions in accordance with the calculating method of levying cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem and problems of project proceeding in the system of returning fund for projects in general. The conclusion which this study suggests on invigoration of cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem and its operation are as followings. First, although the cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem has been introduced in 2001, the amount of imposition per unit area remains unchanged. It is desirable to increase the amount into $1,400KRW/m^2$ as of August, 2011 as the price index has been continuously rising for the past 10 years and the upward adjustment of imposition per unit area should be notified by the decree of the Ministry of Environment every January. Second, the ceiling amount of the cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem should be abolished. Now the ceiling amount is defined as 1 billion KRW but it was found that there was not any ceiling amount specified according to the comparative analysis of similar systems with the Korean environmental improvement fund. The ceiling should be abolished so that medium level businesses are carried out and ecosystem recovering projects in the true sense of the word can be made smoothly. Third, weight should be introduced in calculating amounts in accordance with ecologic and economic values. Harmony between development and environment can be achieved by applying differentiated weights of constant regional coefficient by use zone and ecologic and economic values. Continuous efforts of improving cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem should be made more than anything else so that projects by returns of cooperation charge on conservation of ecosystem get effectiveness.

  • The present study numerically investigates the effect of obstacles located in the trajectory of fire plume flow on heat flow characteristics by using Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS) software in an underground combined cycle power plant (CCPP). Fire size is taken as 10 MW and two different locations of fire source are selected depending on the presence of an obstacle. As the results, when the obstacle is in the trajectory of fire plume, hot plume arrives at the ceiling about 5 times slower in the upper of the fire in comparison to the results without obstacle. In addition, the average propagation time of ceiling jet increases by about 70 % with the distance from the ceiling in the upper of the fire, and it increases mainly about 4 times at the distance of 10 m. Consequently, it is noted that the analysis of heat flow characteristics in the underground CCPP considering fire scenarios is essential to develop the fire detection system for initial response on evacuation and disaster management.

  • The 3-Dimensional(3D) localization system based on beacon expansion and coordinate-space disassembly for the design of the 3D localization system in indoor environment is proposed and the performance of the proposed system is analyzed in this paper. The localization ratio of the 3D localization system adapts the proposed algorithm is analyzed by the calculation of errors occurred in the coordinates that the mobile node locates. It is indicated that the average error distance of the 3D localization system adapts the proposed algorithm is less than that of the 3D localization system not adapts the proposed algorithm as 0.47m. The localization average distance error in 12 coordinates is indicated that the 1.5m case is less than 2.5m case as 0.38m by some experimentations under the condition that the distances between the ceiling and the mobile node are 1.5m and 2.5m measured from the ceiling respectively. It is seen that the 3D localization system based on beacon expansion and coordinate-space disassembly can improved the degradation of the quality of service that is caused by some conditions and performance differences in sensors.

  • Aims of this study is to investigate the daylighting control strategy of venetian blind system was performed as a function of ratio of shading height to window and slat angles in the preliminary stage of the parametric study. Floor-to-ceiling window walls of living spaces are used widely in apartment buildings since the Korean government has legally allowed elimination of the balcony area. Enlarging living area by balcony elimination, the larger glass area of window is exposed to the direct sunlight. As a common sunlight controlling device, blind system can be used in all orientations and all latitudes and it may obstruct, absorb, reflect and transmit solar radiation to building by proper adjusting. However, blind system can produce discomfort in occupant and less energy efficiency, if it has not been controlled optimally. The simulation model was based on the unit module of typical living space with balcony elimination. The room dimension was $6.0m(w){\times}6.9m(d){\times}2.7m(h)$ with floor to ceiling height of 2.5m. The blind system was simulated at five slat angles (horizontal, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ upward and downward tilted) and the four ratio of shading height to window (fully closed, partly opened, no-blind) using the Desktop RADIANCE 2.0 program. The series of simulation results indicates that the advantages of available daylight and outside of view can be improved by proper adjusting blind system.

  • While the multimedia lecture system has been getting smart using immerging technology, the microphone still relies on the classical approach such as holding in hand or attaching on the body. In this paper, we propose a ceiling mounted array microphone system that allows a wide reception coverage and instructors to move freely without attaching microphone. The proposed system adopts cell and handover of mobile communication instead of a complicated beamforming method and implements a wide range microphone over several cells with low cost. Since the characteristics of unvoiced speech is similar to Pseudo Noise it is shown that soft handover are possible with 3 microphones connected to delay-sum multipath receiver. The proposed system is tested in $6.3{\times}1.5m$ area. For real-time processing the correlation range can be reduced by 82% or more, and the output latency delay can be improved by using the delay adaptive filter.

  • In this paper, FSTL (Field Sound Transmission Loss) measured in a mock-up simulating ship cabins is studied. A mock-up is built by using 6 mm steel plate, and two identical cabins are made where 25 mm or 50 mm sandwich panel is used to construct wall and ceiling inside the steel structure. Various wall panels and ceilings are tested, where effects of wall and ceiling panel thickness, and presence of a unit toilet on FSTL are investigated. It is found that the effect of unit toilet on FSTL is at most 1 dB. From the comparison of FSTL for panels of the same thickness of 50 mm, it is observed that panel having inside air cavity of 10 mm shows higher STL than that of the panel without air cavity. Comparison of FSTL for panels of 50 mm and 25 mm thickness shows that dependency on surface density predicted by mass law is not observed. The sandwich panels act as a mass-spring system, which shows a resonant mode that cannot be explained by the mass law. It is also found that STL from laboratory test is higher than FSTL by 5- 10 dB, which can be explained by flanking structure-borne noise transmission path such as ceiling, floor and corridor-facing wall.
