  • Due to the recent development of battery technology, various types of means of transportation such as electric kickboards, Segways, and electric bicycles have emerged, which can be defined as Personal Mobility. In this paper, as the incidence of safety accidents increases due to the increase in the number of users of Personal Mobility, safety helmet devices that strengthen safety capabilities and peripheral recognition functions were studied. In order for the helmet to send a safety signal, Arduino was used as a base to set the value of the sensor according to changes in distance and angle using the ultrasonic sensor to minimize errors and ensure smooth recognition. In addition, a gyro sensor was used to turn on the direction indicator according to each slope. Using a CDS sensor, the LED is designed to turn on when it goes below 150 lux at night. Finally, it is possible to check whether a helmet is worn within 5cm, and when driving at an average speed, the direction indicator light is turned on at 10 degrees, and the LED is turned on at less than 150 lux.

  • This paper presents a CMOS readout circuit for MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical System) acceleration sensors. It consists of a MEMS accelerometer, a capacitance to voltage converter(CVC) and a second-order switched-capacitor ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator. Correlated-double-sampling(CDS) and chopper-stabilization(CHS) techniques are used in the CVC and ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator to reduce the low-frequency noise and DC offset. The sensitivity of the designed CVC is 150mV/g and its non-linearity is 0.15%. The duty cycle of the designed ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator output increases about 10% when the input voltage amplitude increases by 100mV, and the modulator's non-linearity is 0.45%. The total sensitivity is 150mV/g and the power consumption is 5.6mW. The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.35um CMOS process with a supply voltage of 3.3V and a operating frequency of 2MHz. The size of the designed chip including PADs is $0.96mm{\times}0.85mm$.

  • In this paper we propose a controller which has the capability of disturbance measurement calibration for Cds array sensors in a magnetic levitation system. Steady state error due to environment light condition or external disturbance is corrected constantly. The correction is made by the sensors to measure the ball position of the system without additional deployment of sensors.

  • Human retina is able to detect the edge of an object effectively. We designed a CMOS vision chip by modeling cells of the retina as hardwares involved in edge detection. There are several fluctuation factors which affect characteristics of MOSFETs during CMOS fabrication process and this effect appears as output offset of the vision chip which is composed of pixel arrays and readout circuits. The vision chip detecting edge information from input image is used for input stage of other systems. Therefore, the output offset of a vision chip determine the efficiency of the entire performance of a system. In order to eliminate the offset at the output stage, we designed a vision chip by using CDS(Correlated Double Sampling) technique. Using standard CMOS process, it is possible to integrate with other circuits. Having reliable output characteristics, this chip can be used at the input stage for many applications, like targe tracking system, fingerprint recognition system, human-friendly robot system and etc.

  • This paper presents a CMOS switched-capacitor interface circuit for MEMS capacitive sensors. It consist of a capacitance to voltage converter(CVC), a second-order ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator, and a comparator. A bias circuit is also designed to supply constant bias voltages and currents. This circuit employes the correlated-double-sampling(CDS) and chopper-stabilization(CHS) techniques to reduce low-frequency noise and offset. The designed CVC has a sensitivity of 20.53mV/fF and linearity errors less than 0.036%. The duty cycle of the designed ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator output increases about 5% as the input voltage amplitude increases by 100mV. The designed interface circuit shows linearity errors less than 0.13%, and the current consumption is 0.73mA. The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.35um CMOS process with a supply voltage of 3.3V. The size of the designed chip including PADs is $1117um{\times}983um$.

  • When fabricating a vision chip, we should consider the noise problem, such as the fixed pattern noise(FPN) due to the process variation. In this paper, we propose an edge-detection circuit based on biological retina using the offset-free column readout circuit to reduce the FPN occurring in the photo-detector. The offset-free column readout circuit consists of one source follower, one capacitor and five transmission gates. As a result, it is simpler and smaller than a general correlated double sampling(CDS) circuit. A vision chip for edge detection has been designed and fabricated using $0.35\;{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal CMOS technology, and its output characteristics have been investigated.

The proposed IC reduces noise using correlated double sampling (CDS) and reduces power consumption using the opamp sharing technique. The IC is designed to be fully programmable, and can be digitally controlled by serial peripheral interface (SPI). The power consumption and the integrated input referred noise are 1.02 mW from a 3.3 V supply voltage and $0.164aF_{RMS}$ with a bandwidth of 400 Hz. The capacitive sensitivity, the input-output linearity and the figure of merits (FoM) are 2.5 mV/fF, 2.46 %FSO, and 8.4, respectively.

  • It is important to secure the driver's external field view in armored vehicles surrounded by iron armor for preparation for the enemy's firepower. For this purpose, a 360 degree rotatable surveillance camera is mounted on the vehicle. In this case, the key idea is to recognize the head of the driver wearing a helmet so that the external camera rotated in exactly the same direction. In this paper, we introduce a method that uses a MEMS-based AHRS sensor and a illuminance sensor to compensate for the disadvantages of the existing optical method and implements it with low cost. The key idea is to set the direction of the camera by using the difference between the Euler angles detected by two sensors mounted on the camera and the helmet, and to adjust the direction with illuminance sensor from time to time to remove the drift error of sensors. The implemented prototype will show the camera's direction matches exactly in driver's one.

  • Solar energy is rapidly gaining notoriety as an important means of expanding renewable energy resources. As such, it is vital that those in engineering fields understand the technologies associated with this area. My project will include the design and construction of a microcontroller-based solar panel tracking system. Solar tracking allows more energy to be produced because the solar array is able to remain aligned to the sun. This system builds upon topics learned in this course. Performance and usefulness of a solar tracking device that was designed and produced in this study was confirmed through experiments.
