  • Cadmium sulphide (CdS) films have been prepared on polycarbonate (PC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and Coming 7059 substrates by r.f. magnetron sputtering technique at room temperature. A comparison of the properties of the films deposited on polymer and glass substrates was performed. In addition, the effect of the sputter pressure on the structural and optical properties of these films was evaluated.

  • For large scaled solar cells and photosensors CdS thin films of $2{\mu}m$ thickness have deposited on ITO glass substrate by chemical bath deposition methode in $300^{\circ}C$ electric furnace. The surface roughness and resistance of cadmium sulphide(CdS) thin films with different microstructures and morphologies was investigated by using a x-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), an atomic force microscope (AFM), and a near-field scanning microwave microscope (NFMM). As the different substrate heat temperatures, the microwave reflection coefficient $S_{11}$ and intensity of the (002) diffraction peak was changed, and the surface morphology also has shown differently.

  • A n-CdS thin films were evaporated by thermal evaporation method and their structure, optical transmission spectra and electrical characteristics were investigated. The photovoltaic characteristics of solar cells which were fabricated in optimum conditions measured. The evaporated CdS thin films showed in hexagonal structure and above 80% of optical transmission spectra regardless of impurity doping. The high quality thin films could be obtained at 150.deg. C temperature of substrate, which is useful for solar cell window layer with low resistivity of 6*10$\^$-2/(.ohm.-cm) by In doping We measured the electrical and optical characteristics of the n-CdS/p-InP heterojunction solar cells. The most efficient photovoltaic characteristics of heterojunction solar cells had the open circuit voltage of 0.66V, short circuit current density of 13.85mA/cm$\^$2/, fill factor of 0.576 and conversion efficiency of 8.78% under 60mW/cm$\^$2/ illumination.

  • In this thesis, we observed the optical characteristic of amorphous chalcogenide thin films by He-Cd laser. Also, grating formation by He-Ne laser and He-Cd laser. After analyze diffraction efficiency of the time on the $Ag(200{\AA})/As_{40}Ge_{10}Se_{15}S_{35}$ thin films. The result diffraction efficiency of Maximun 0.2% reduced according to time grating formation by He-Ne laser. Diffraction efficiency of Maximun 0.1% showed stabiliy characteristic according to time grating formation by He-Cd laser.

  • Non-stochiometric CdS:H films grown on polyethersulfon (PES) flexible polymer substrates at room temperature by R.F. sputtering technique. They exhibited a dark- and photo-sheet resistance of $2.7\times10^5$ and $\sim\;50\;{\Omega}$/square, respectively. These values were realized by an optimum control of both hydrogen doping-levels and the surface morphologies of the films. The comparison between the real and the simulated results for the shielding and the transmission by the free space measurement system in the X-band frequency range (8.2 - 12.4 GHz) was also addressed in this study. Samples overlapped with 13 layers of CdS:H/PES were consistent with the transmission results of pure aluminum metal films ($0.1\;{\Omega}$/square) deposited on PES substrates. As a result, by the simples tacking of the CdS:H/PES layers, the perfect control of the shielding and the transmission of the EM wave in the range of X-band frequency is possible by avisible light alone, and their results are especially very outstanding findings in the stealth function of the radome(Radar+Dome) such as aircrafts, ships, and missiles.

  • Pastes consisting of $CdZnS_{1-y}Te_{y}$ powder, 20wt/o of $CdCl_2$as a sintering aid and appropriate amount of Propylene Glycol(P.G) have been coated on glass substrates and were sintered at the temperature of $625^{\circ}C$ to find energy band gap, transmittance and electrical properties of the sintered films. The resistivity of sintered film increases with increasing Te content. X-ray diffraction patterns show that $CdZnS_{0.9}Te_{0.1}$ sintered film is in the single film in the two phase region. The transmittance of the sintered film decreases with increasing the Te content.

  • In this paper, CdS thin films, which were widely used window layer of the CdS/CdTe and the CdS/$CuInSe_2$ heterojunction solar cell, were grown by chemical bath deposition, and The properties were investigated in detail. Cadmium acetate and thiourea were used as cadmium and sulfur source, respectively. And Ammonium acetate was used as the buffer solution. Also Ammonia was used for controlling pH concentration. The reaction velocity was increased with increasing reaction temperature and decreasing pH concentration. The crystal structure of CdS films grown with various pH concentration had the hexagonal structure with (002) plane peak. In the range of pH $9{\sim}9.5$, the intensity of the peak was highest, and as increasing pH concentration, decreased the intensity of the peak except pH12.
