Fiber-Bragg-grating external cavity laser(FGL) modules were fabricated and experimentally analyzed. Proposed as a cost-effective solution for optical sources in the WDM-PON access network, FGL modules were packaged to TO-CAN type. We obtained a low threshold current of 13 mA, and an optical output power of 3.6 mW with a bias current of 60 mA at $25^{\circ}C$. The lasing wavelength dependencies on current and temperature were as small as 5.2 pm/mA and 30 pm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. These change rates of the wavelength with the temperature and current are smaller than those of the DFB laser. Single-mode oscillations with the side-mode suppression ratio(SMSR) over 30 dB are maintained above the threshold current level. The FGL modules can be directly modulated at 155 Mbps, PRBS(2$^{23}$ -1) NRZ signal. Through the BER plots, we did not see the significant degradations before and after the transmission over 20km of the SMF at 155 Mb/s.

In this paper, a tunable fiber feedback laser based on the use of Sagnac loop filter and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed. The Sagnac loop filter using a high birefringence fiber provides precise 0.33-nm channel spacing as a multi-wavelength grid filter. Ni-Cr wire wound on the FBG is useful to induce the thermo-optic effect of the fiber. Two types of FBG structures, which have a different length of wire, are demonstrated to show the wavelength shift and separation. To tune FBG by resistant heat, some current is supplied into the wire. When the wavelength matched with one of the cavity modes of Sagnac loop filter, the mode-locked lasing is occurred. The electrical power sensitivity of the resonant wavelength is measured to 1.75pm/mW. This laser configuration can be applied the electrical power system for monitoring the power fluctuation.
An experimental verification of multipactor(MP) discharge for S-band diplexer as a sample DUT for space application by an in-house MP test facility is proposed. The designed diplexer having two BPFs for Rx and Tx is applied to a design of five pole inter-digital cavity type band pass filter with chebyshev response, it has 2.7 % bandwidth centered at 2.232 and 2.055 GHz for Rx, Tx, respectively. To avoid the MP discharge, the accurate design and analysis methods based on 3D EM field analysis are considered. The proposed in-house MP test facility consists of a phase detecting system using a doubly balanced mixer as a simple, low cost and real time MP test method compared with results of previously well-known MP detection systems as cross reference methods. The calculated MP threshold RF input power is 43.13 dBm. The measured one is 43 dBm and 44 dBm for CW, pulsed mode test, respectively.
We demonstrate a single-frequency wavelength tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser. We used an unpumped-EDF as a saturable-absorber in order to obtain a stable single-frequency with a narrow-linewidth single-polarization mode in the ring cavity. The lasing wavelength was controlled by using bending-induced strain, such as tension and compression strain corresponding to the bending direction, applied to the fiber gratings. The fiber laser exhibited an output power of -1.85 dBm at a wavelength of 1540.72 nm for a pumping power of ~400 mW. An extinction ratio was measured to be more than 60 dB. The proposed tunable fiber laser maintains nearly the same output power while its lasing wavelength is controlled over in a wavelength range of 5 nm.
An 18-year-old boy was admitted with chest discomfort, nausea, and dyspnea at rest. At the age of 3 years, he underwent muscle biopsy and dystrophin gene analysis owing to an enlarged calf muscle and elevated serum kinase level (6,378 U/L) without overt weakness; based on the results, Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) was diagnosed. The dystrophin gene showed deletion of exons 45 to 49. He remained ambulant and could step upstairs without significant difficulties. A chest roentgenogram showed cardiomegaly (cardiothoracic ratio, 54%), and his electrocardiogram (ECG) showed abnormal ST-T wave, biatrial enlargement, and left ventricular hypertrophy. The 2-dimensional and M-mode ECGs showed a severely dilated left ventricular cavity with diffuse hypokinesis. The systolic indices were reduced, including fractional shortening (9%) and ejection fraction (19%). Despite receiving intensive medical treatment, he died from congestive heart failure 5 months after the initial cardiac symptoms. We report a case of BMD with early-onset dilated cardiomyopathy associated with deletion of exons 45 to 49. Early cardiomyopathy can occur in BMD patients with certain genotypes; therefore, careful follow-up is required even in patients with mild phenotypes of BMD.
Many gastrointestinal muscles show electrical oscillation, so-called 'slow wave', originated from interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs). Thus, a technique to freshly isolate the cells is indispensable to explore the electrophysiological properties of the ICCs. To apply an enzyme solution on the serosal surface for cell isolation, the intestine was inverted and 0.02% trypsin solution and 0.04% collagenase solution were applied to serosal cavity. After the enzyme treatment, mucosal layer was removed and longitudinal muscle layer was gently separated from the rest of tissue. The thin layer was stretched in the recording chamber and mounted on an inverted microscope. Using ${\beta}-escine$, perforated whole cell patch clamp technique was used. Under a microscope, the tissue showed smooth muscle cells and interstitial cells around the myenteric plexus. Under voltage clamp condition, three types of membrane potential were recorded. One group of interstitial cells, which were positive to methylene blue and CD34, showed spontaneous outward current. These cells had bipolar shape and were considered as fibroblast-like cells because of their peculiar shape and arrangement. Another group, positive to c-kit and methylene blue, showed spontaneous inward current. These cells had more rounded shape and processes and were considered as ICCs. The third, positive to c-kit and had granules containing methylene blue, showed quiet membrane potentials under the voltage-clamp mode. These cells appeared to be resident macrophages. Therefore, in the freshly isolated thin tissue preparation, methylene blue could easily identify three types of cells rather than morphological properties. Using this method, we were able to study electrical properties of fibroblast and residential macrophage as well as myenteric ICCs.

In this paper, prior to the flight model X-band dual-mode circular cavity filter required for the high power transmission of the observation payload in the geostationary satellite, the development model are designed and analyzed to show the analytical multipactor requirement margin. First of all, the multipaction breakdown power sensitivities were analyzed by changing the iris width and thickness within the filter, and through that the iris width and thickness was selected and then the multipaction threshold powers over the frequencies within the bandwidth were analyzed and the required margin of 8 dB was obtained. Also for the high power transmission filter, another important phenomena known as corona breakdown are analyzed for the iris width and thickness changes. Finally the development model manufactured was tested and the results met the key requirements.
Purpose : Field of view and voxel resolution of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) might affect the diagnostic capability. This study was performed to compare between the standard and HiRes zoom modes in the diagnosis of external root resorption (ERR) using CBCT. Materials and Methods : Sixty three small cavities (0.25 mm depth and 0.5 mm diameter) were simulated on the buccal, lingual, and proximal surfaces at three different levels of 16 roots of teeth. After covering the root with nail varnish, the roots were inserted in the sockets and the model was placed in a water-containing lacuna. CBCT scans were taken in both standard and HiRes zoom modes using NewTom VG (QR srl Company, Verona, Italy). Then, an observer assessed the images to determine the presence or absence of the cavities. This process was repeated by increasing the size and depth of cavities to 0.5 mm depth and 1 mm diameter. Data were analyzed by McNemar test. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and likelihood ratio in evaluation of the simulated cavities were calculated. Results : There was a significant difference between the two imaging modes in diagnosing the shallow cavities (p=0.02).The sensitivity of the standard zoom in detecting the shallow cavities was lower than that of the HiRes zoom. The likelihood ratio of the HiRes zoom was higher in the diagnosis of both cavity types. Conclusion : This study suggested that a smaller voxel size in the HiRes zoom mode of CBCT is preferred for diagnosis of ERR.
Ginseng has been reported to reduce the risk of cancer in diverse organs, including the lip, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, lung, liver, pancreas, ovary, colon, rectum, and stomach, as demonstrated in clinical and epidemiological studies. studies, base on which findings, Panax ginseng has been classified as a "non-organ-specific cancer preventive." However, the recent keen interest in traditional medicinal herbs has been frequently questioned, about exact mode of action and the use of panaceic compounds has been a prime issue discussed in terms of complementary and alternative medicine. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have shown the mitigating effects of Korean red ginseng on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated atrophic changes and carcinogenesis; However, evidence-based medicine, consisting of large-scale or well designed clinical studies, is still warranted whether Korean red ginseng is to be recognized as an essential therapeutic strategy regarding a "H. pylori-associated gastric cancer preventive." Specifically, comprehensive clinical trials of Korean red ginseng are needed to demonstrate that mucosal regeneration in patients with atrophic gastritis is feasible using Korean red ginseng supplements after the eradication of H. pylori infection. Ginseng is a good example of a natural herb and its ubiquitous properties may include the reduction or delay of inflammation carcinogenesis. Korean red ginseng contains ample amounts of active ginsenosides and we have demonstrated their effects in in vitro and in vivo studies with positive outcomes. In this review, the quantitative and qualitative benefits of Korean red ginseng in the treatment of H. pylori infection are described.
Red blood cells (RBCs) are customarily adhered to a bio-functionalised substrate to make them stationary in interferometric phase-imaging modalities. This can make them susceptible to receive alterations in innate morphology due to their own weight. Optical tweezers (OTs) often driven by Gaussian profile of a laser beam is an alternative modality to overcome contact-induced perturbation but at the same time a steeply focused laser beam might cause photo-damage. In order to address both the photo-damage and substrate adherence induced perturbations, we were motivated to stabilize the RBC in OTs by utilizing a laser beam of ‘arbitrary intensity profile’ generated by a source having cavity imperfections per se. Thus the immobilized RBC was investigated for phase-imaging with sinusoidal interferograms generated by a compact and robust Michelson interferometer which was designed from a cubic beam splitter having one surface coated with reflective material and another adjacent coplanar surface aligned against a mirror. Reflected interferograms from bilayers membrane of a trapped RBC were recorded and analyzed. Our phase-imaging set-up is limited to work in reflection configuration only because of the availability of an upright microscope. Due to RBC’s membrane being poorly reflective for visible wavelengths, quantitative information in the signal is weak and therefore, the quality of experimental results is limited in comparison to results obtained in transmission mode by various holographic techniques reported elsewhere.
