  • The Bullock Creek Caves are located adjacent to the usually dry river bed of Bullock Creek, which reaches the sea about a kilometer north of Punakaiki. The caves have been comprehensively written up by Rodgers(972). Under conditions of normal water flow Bullock Creek submerges where the stream meets limestone on the west side of their Punakaiki syncline. In flood conditions it overflows the first submergence and progressively floods a series of smaller submergences down valley until it comes to the caves shown on the map. All these with the exception of Wazpretti Cave and Dry Valley Cave are probably more or less flooded during and after heavy rain.(omitted)

  • Since lava tube caves began to be mapped in large numbers, numerous claims to possession of the world's longest have been advanced by caverns from various countries. Among the caves for which this distinction has been claimed are Ape Cave, washington (halliday, 1962); the Cueva de los Verdes, Canary Islands (Montoriol and de Mier, 1969); the Cueva del Viento, Canary Islands (Montoriol and de Mier, 1974); Kazumura Cave, Hawaii (Gagne and Howarth, 1975); Leviathan Cave, Kenya (Simon, 1976); Man Jang Gul, South Korea (Anon., 1981); and Bilemot Gul, South Korea (Ogawa, 1982).(omitted)

  • PURPOSES : This study identifies the causes and the mechanism of the occurrence of underground cavities. METHODS : A case study on cave-in and a series of model tests with a small soil chamber were conducted. RESULTS : A hypothesis about the mechanism of the cave-in in road was established, and the basic influencing factors on underground cavity expansion were identified. CONCLUSIONS : It was found that the characteristics of shear strength of soil and direction of water flow had a larger influence on cavity formation and expansion than the characteristics of internal erosion. In addition, large cavities suddenly expanded when cavities were caused owing to breakage of buried sewer pipe.

  • There are lots of natural caves in northeastern area of China. in this paper emphasis on the securities of cave management and cave survey. And discussed about the securities of the tourist and the members of the survey team. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the items of the security management as a sightseeing caves and management environment and the situation of the conservation.

  • Jeomal Cave consists of limestone. Soil distribution is very different from mountain area to piedmont area. The Cave developed in a part of the fault valley. The joints controls the low level stream orders in the cave. in this area the geological structure is close relate to the underground water flow. It is certain that the distribution of the clay came from the surface.

  • The distribution of Cheondong cave's features is located in the center of the square. Due to its distribution, the tour route of Cheondong cave is spoon-shaped. However, tourists appreciate the features, which have lighting, along the designated route. The network analysis found problems with two characteristics of the viewing points within the viewing route.
