Development of Accident Taxonomy for Experimental Laboratory (연구실 사고분류 체계 개발)

  • The goal of this study is to analyze accidents occurred at experimental laboratory and to suggest hierarchical taxonomy applicable to prepare countermeasures reducing the experimental laboratory accidents. Recent 5 years accidents were analyzed and classified according to their primary cause, facility or human. Then in case of facility, the accidents were further classified whether they can be fixed by organization or by individual. In case of human factor, they were classified into physical, chemical, or biological to prepare precise measures. Depending on the adequacy of appropriate practice, several measures were suggested such as; whether to improve training of laboratory workers, or to improve training the system, or to improve or prepare practice substantially. A new taxonomy for laboratory accident was suggested complying other governmental agencies' classification such as KOSHA and KGS. Additionally, two kinds of possibilities were suggested such as possibility of major accident and possibility of disaster which can be defined as laboratory accident causing large scale of harmful consequence to residential area or environment by fire, explosion and/or toxic release of hazardous chemicals and/or microbiology.

  • The ratio of Industrial Accident in Korea has been inclined to decrease for recent ten years since industrialization beginnings of Korea. But it is still in high level viewed from international comparison. Up to now, we depended on classical method Accident as the phenomenical and inductive result. And we searched for the counter plan in the basis of the result by this method. But, in this research, we analyzed the distinctions which the structure of the occurrence of Industrial Accident using new model in order to approach the cause of Industrial accident of Korea more basically. In this new model, I am going to arrange the controllable variables in the factors of Industrial Accident and to analyze the effect of these controllable variables in the structure of Industrial Accident.

Inundation Accident Analysis Using Hydrodynamic Model and Consideration of Disaster Roots Using Cause and Effect Diagram (동수역학 모형을 이용한 침수사고 분석 및 특성요인도를 활용한 재해 원인 고찰)

  • Recently, the damages by typhoons and heavy rains are increasing due to the climate change. However, we are still vulnerable to inundation disaster due to various causes such as poor physical flood control and lacks of disaster and safety management. Therefore, it is necessary to establish systems to ensure safety and prepare practical countermeasures that can minimize damage when an inundation occurs, thereby minimizing economic loss and casualty. In this study, hydrodynamic inundation modelings were implemented to analyze the "Noryangjin reservoir inundation accident" and "Choryang No. 1 underground road inundation accident." and spatial risk was assessed by a quantitative hazard index. In addition, cause and effect diagrams were provided to present the risk causes in terms of physical and managemental aspects.

  • A Recently elevator accidents were occurred and increased due to carelessness of user and violent behavior. The accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter show a example of safety concerns and insensibility for safety awareness. In this report, we review the cause of accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter, and show some suggestions of preventing from the safety concerns about this case.

Clinical Analysis of Chest Trauma; Analysis of 247 patients (흉부 손상의 임상적 고찰)

  • Clinical analysis were performed on 247 cases of thoracic trauma, those were admitted & treated at the department of thoracic & cardiovascular surgery,Hanyang University Hospital during the period from Jan,1989 to June,1992. Age distribution of those was from 2 to 80 years old & mean age was 38 years old. The ratio of male to female patient was 186:61 [3:1].This ratio revealed high incidence in male patient. The most common cause of trauma was traffic accident in this series.The modes of injury were as follows: traffic accident 124 cases[50.2%],fall down 52 cases[21.05%], stab wound 47 cases[19.03%] and gun-shut wound 1 case.Ellapse time from accident to admission were 141 cases [57.09%] under 6 hr.Rib fracture were observed in 159 cases[64.37%], hemo or pneumothorax were observed 134 cases[54.25%] of total cases and location distributed Right:Left:Both[74:112:37], in left predominant. Conservative,non-operative treatment were performed in 128 cases and operation[open thoracotomy] 32 cases.Mortality was 1.6%[4 cases] & most common cause of death were due to irreversible shock with brain edema. Conclusively, more evaluation & co-operation of other department were expected treatment & better prognosis.

  • Identification of the cause of electrically related fire accident may be approached either by studying accident related electric properties or by investigating power instruments at the site of the accident. In the present paper, the former approach is taken especially on investigating the consequences of excessive current induced by electric short circuiting of high power instruments which is reported as the primary cause electricity related fire accidents. In order to provide reliability of the identification method, microscopic photograph's are taken for the cross sections of the electric wires after being exposed to over current and heated by external means, respectively The results are consequently compared and analysed.

The Gender Difference in the Occupational Hazards and Injuries of Cleaning Workers and Janitors

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the accident characteristics according to the gender of the injured workers in building cleaning and to reflect them in the Industrial Accident Prevention Policy. Background: An analysis of industrial accidents is an essential process for establishing systematic industrial accident prevention measures. In order to establish industrial accident prevention measures for workers effectively, it is necessary to analyze accident characteristics by job type for workers who do the same work. Method: In this study, we analyzed the accident characteristics of 1,645 janitors who were approved of work-related injuries in 2015. We also analyzed the characteristics according to gender by dividing them into worker-related factors and accident-related factors. Results: The accidents caused to the janitors showed different characteristics according to gender, age, work experience, agency of accident, and distribution of original cause materials. In other words, 70.2% occurred to workers over 60 years old and 56.2% occurred to unskilled workers with less than a year of work experience. In the case of accident pattern, 79.1% occurred in tripping (slip) hazards, and 68.2% of accidents occurred on the floor (including the ground) and the stairs, indicating that the accident occurred most frequently during cleaning work on the floor or stairs. Conclusion and Application: The results of the study on the accident characteristics of the janitors can be used as basic data for systematic preventive measures against accidents occurring to the elderly female workers in the service industry.

A Study on the Prevention of Serious Accident in Small Business: Focusing on Cargo Transport Vehicles (중소기업 중대재해 예방에 관한 연구: 화물운송차량를 중심으로)

  • Since 2024, small business are also going to be ruled under the Serious Accident Punishment Act. As the scope of the law expands, the small logistics companies are required to pay more attention on preventing serious accidents on the field. Freight vehicle accidents can cause personnel accidents and cargo accidents which are the two serious accidents that the Serious Accident Punishment Act is trying to prevent. The purpose of this research are to study the factors that cause the serious accidents that happens in the small logistics companies and to suggest preventive. The results of the study shows that fall prevention is the top-priority and then driving experience, safety management, and cargo driving hours. However, the gaps between the evaluation values of each are not huge, which means all the preventives are significant.

  • Forensic Engineering is the area covering the investigation of products, structures that fail to perform or do not function as intended, causing personal injury or damage to property. To investigate the mobile crane's overturn accident in terms of the forensic engineering, in this study, we identified the accident mobile crane's position and posture before accident by the analysis of the trace resulted by the contact between the outrigger and the ground, and the accident remodeling has been performed using CATIA modeling program in the basis of the accident mobile crane's position and posture information. The accident analysis has been performed by comparing this accident remodeling and the crane's specification, the table of the allowance load about the boom's length and the working radius. Through these studies, the safety accident that may occur in mobile crane can be minimized by performing specialized and systematic investigation of the accident cause in terms of the forensic engineering.

A Study on the Cause of the Accidents Influencing Factor based on the Safety Management Shape Types of the Cooperation Companies in Semiconductor Industry (협력업체의 안전관리 형태에 따른 반도체 산업의 사고의 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • The studies on semiconductor industrial accident in korea have been focused on the frequencies of each type of safety management employee, characteristics, cause and unsafe conditions, acts and so on. Those attributes of semiconductor industrial accidents were usually analyzed independently, so that it was hard to provides a wel-developed process and systematic guidelines for efficient safety management. Therefore, there were a few studies based on comprehensive survey in terms of the shape type of safe management. The questionnaire survey carried out for the 284 workers who were responsible for safety management in center with cooperation companies in semiconductor industry factor analysis showed that there were three factors of safety management. First, investment and operation and management for accident prevention, Second, unsafe act and condition, safety management Third, general human error and behavior. The industries of respondents were correlative with three groups. Three groups showed statistically significant differences on the number of cases. Actually, the group with the larger investment and the more unsafe cause, human error of accidents prevention had a smaller causes of accident cases.
