The various eluents have been used for the separations of alkaline earth metals by elutions through cation exchange resin column by many investigators. We find, the mixed solution of 1M HAc and 1M NaAc (pH 4.75) is the best eluent for this purpose, becouse the one step elution through 7cm Dowex 50w${\times}$8(100~200mesh) resin column with this eluent, gives the quantitative separation. When 2M NaAc is used as a eluent Sr(II) and Ba(II) is separated easily without any contamination of Mg(II) andCa(II). The Ca-Pb alloy which is composed of Cu, Ca, Sr, Ba and abundance of Pb metal is separated quantitatively into its components by the two step elution with 0.3M HAc + 0.3M NaAc(PH 4.75) and 0.5M HAc + 0.5M NaAc(PH 4.75) as eluents through 10cm resin column.
Ion exchange procedure was studied for the separation of thorium from the acidic solution obtained by means of decomposition of monazite with alkali solution. Present cation exchange method consists of adsorption of cations from the sample solution (ca. 0.6N HCl acidic) onto Amberlite IR-120 resin, elution of all of the rare earth cations with 700 ml. of 2N Hydrochloric acid, and recovery of the thorium by elution with 200ml. of 6N sulfaric acid. Thorium recovery by the ion-exchange method mentioned above, was quantitative, and it is concluded that this ion-exchange method may be used not only for industrial separation of thorium from rare earths but also for quantitative determination of thorium with relative error, ${\pm}1.0.$.
Cation exchange resin particles amberlite IRC-50 were used as a medium for a identific test of alkaloids with dragendorff reagent. The procedures were as follows; A few particles of amberlite IRC-50 were added to the small portion of sample solutions on a spot plate or in a test tube. After 20 minutes-an hour, a drop of dragendorff reagent were added to particles of resin that were adsorbed. When alkaloid was present, the original color of the resin particles changed instantly to red or reddish orange depending on the amount and kind of alkaloid, while in the absence of alkaloid the original color of the resin particles changed light yellow. These methods were more sensitive than the ordinary spot test or paper spot test for alkaloid. The limits of identifications of nine alkaloids were tested by these methods and compared with the paper spot test method.
In decontamination process to remove radioactive materials of reactor cooling system, the metal ions dissolved by organic acids in decontamination solution are separated by use of ion exchange resin in the column. However, organic acids in decontamination solution decrease the apparent affinity of the resin to metal ions. In light of this, some experiments were carried out on the Amberlite IRN-77 cation resin with cobalt and iron to gain a better understanding of the complexation effects on the ion exchange process. Experimental results showed that EDTA among organic acids used as chemical decontaminants predominantly caused reduction of ion exchange capacity of cobaltous ion to resin since this reagent formed the complex with the cobaltous ion stronger than that with the ferrous ion. In contrast, the effects of oxalic acid and citric acid were found to be negligible. And, single and two-component nonlinear equilibrium relationships of the metal ions were established using experimental data.

No-carrier-added holmium-166 (n.c.a 166Ho) separation is performed based on the results of separation conditions using stable isotopes dysprosium (Dy) and holmium (Ho) to minimize radioactive waste from separation optimization procedures. Successful separation of two adjacent lanthanides was achieved by cation-exchange chromatography using a sulfonated resin in the H+ form (BP-800) and α-hydroxyisobutyric acid (α-HIBA) as eluent. For the identification process after separation of stable isotopes, the use of chromogenic reagents alternatively enables on-line detection because the lanthanides are hardly absorb light in the UV-vis region or exhibit radioactivity. Four different chromogenic reagents were pre-tested to evaluate suitable coloring reagents, of which 4-(2-Pyridylazo)resorcinol is the most recommendable considering the sensitivity and specificity for lanthanides. Lanthanide radioisotopes (RI) were monitored for separation with an RI detector using a lab-made separation LC system. Under the proper separation conditions, the n.c.a 166Ho was effectively obtained from a large amount of 100 mg dysprosium target within 2 hrs.

In this study, heterogeneous ion exchange membranes were prepared by casting method with various mixing ratios of PPO ion-selective solution and ion exchange resin. Then heterogeneous bipolar membranes were prepared by using this. The water content of heterogeneous cation and anion exchange membranes were 60~80% respectively, the ion exchange capacity was 2.81~3.26 meq/g, 2.31~2.74 meq/g and electrical resistances were $1.65{\sim}1.45{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ and $1.55{\sim}1.05{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$. The tensile strength of heterogeneous bipolar membrane was lower than that of PPO resin before functionalization ($700Kg_f/cm^2$). The tensile strength of heterogeneous bipolar membrane with catalyst layer was lower than that of non-catalytic heterogeneous bipolar membrane. The water splitting voltage of the heterogeneous bipolar membrane with catalyst layer was low and stable at a minimum of 1.7~1.8 V, maximum 3.9~4.0 V, and the water splitting voltage of the non-catalytic heterogeneous bipolar membrane was constant at 3.8~4.0 V.

Cation exchange column chromatography of lithium was carried out to investigate the lithium isotope separation in aqueous ion exchange system. A Pyrex glass column of $50cm{\times}6mm$ inner radius with a water jacket was used as the separation column in experiment. Upon column chromatography using hydrochloric and succinic acid mixtures as an elunent, single separation factor, ${\alpha}$, 1.0068 was obtained. From the experiment, it was found that $^6Li$ was enriched in the resin phase and $^7Li$ in the solution phase.
In this paper, we have investigated the optimization of $I_2$ recovery process from $NH_4I$ solution, which is generated as by-product during the amination reaction of p-diiodobenzene (PDIB) for p-phenylenediamine (PPD) synthesis. The recovered $I_2$ is then recycled as a raw material for PDIB synthesis. We have employed a cation exchange resin to recover $I_2$ from $NH_4I$ sample solution, and determined the breakthrough point and exchange capacity from the breakthrough curve. Furthermore, we have suggested optimum conditions of our $I_2$ recovery process by measuring the purity and yield of recovered $I_2$ with respect to the concentrations of $NH_4I$ and oxidant ($H_2O_2$) solutions, the oxidation time, and the temperature of drying process. Finally, the yield and purity as high as 94.96% and 96.65%, respectively were obtained by reusing the residual solution still containing unrecovered iodide ions.
Continuous ion exchange characteristics of the synthetic coolant contained Ni, Co and Ag ions of low concentration in acidic-oxidizing conditions have been studied to suggest the guideline for the optimum operation of mixed-bed demincralizer during the shutdown period of a pressurized water reactor (PWR). In the effect of the form of cation resins on the removal capacity of metal ions, the performance of a $H^+$-form resin was about 6% higher than that of a $Li^+$-form resin. Mixed-bed of cation and anion resins in comparison with nonmixed-bed of them, had no affected on the removal capacity of metal ions but very slightly increased the slope of breakthrough curves of metal ions. In the effect related to acidic-oxidizing conditions of the coolant, the addition of boric acid very slightly decreased the slope of breakthrough curves of metal ions, while the addition of hydrogen peroxide slightly decreased the removal capacity of metal ions.
Heterogeneous membranes were prepared by compression molding for the recovery of ammonium ion from waste water. Degree of sulfonation for sulfonated ion exchange resin increased with increasing amount of chlorosulfonic acid. It was 3.32 meq/g at 10 vol%. The tensile strength and elongation of the heterogeneous membrane was decreased with increasing contents of ion exchange resin. The tensile strength for LLDPE matrix membrane was the highest and also the elongation for EVA matrix membranes were the highest. The water content of heterogeneous membrane was increased with increasing contents of ion exchange resin. The maximum value of transport number for PE matrix membrane was 0.973. The electrical resistance of LLDPE matrix membrane was the lowest. It was value of $10.36{\Omega}/cm^2$ at 70 wt% resins.
