Pre-construction primer (PCP), or shopprimer, have been applied to steel plates to control temporary corrosion during ship fabrication. For surface preparation at ship block stage, in common shipyard practices, welding beads, burnt and rusted areas shall be blasted or power tool cleaned and the contamination such as zinc salt shall be removed with blasting or power tool. Whereas, the sound film of PCP needs not to be removed or roughened as the paint having good compatibility with PCP is used for the first coat. In many cases, however, full blasting or sweep blasting on the sound PCP treated block assemblies was requested. There still has been argument about the legitimacy of this practice, thus, it is critical to evaluate the quality of the coating system applied on the sound PCP retained condition, comparing with the one applied on the full blasted or sweep blasted condition. In this study, two different epoxy systems for water ballast tank were applied on the surfaces with sound PCP condition, full blasted condition, and sweep blasted condition. Coating performances such as durability, anti-corrosion, cathodic disbondment resistance were evaluated. The test results clearly indicated that the sound film of PCP needed not to be removed or roughened as the paint having good compatibility with PCP based on inorganic zinc silicate.
Recently a fuel oil of the diesel engine of the marine ship is being changed with heavy oil of low quality as the oil price is higher more and more. Therefore the wear and corrosion in all parts of the engine such as cylinder liner, piston crown, spindle and seat ring of exhaust valves are predominantly increased. In particular the degree of wear and corrosion of piston crown is more seriously compared to the other parts of the engine due to operating in severe environment such as the high temperature of exhaust gas and repeating impact. Thus the repair weldment of the piston crown is a unique method to prolong the its life in a economical point of view. In this case, filler metals having a high corrosion and wear resistance such as stellite 6, Inconel 625 and Inconel 718 are mainly being used for repair welding. However it has been often happened that piston crown on the ship,s job site is being actually inevitably welded with mild filler metals. Therefore in this study, filler metals such as E4301, E4313 and E4316 were welded at SS401 steel as the base metal, and corrosion property of their weld metals in the case of post weld heat treatment or not was investigated with some electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and polarization resistance etc. in 0.1% $H_2SO_4$ solution. Corrosion resistance of the weld metal of E4301 was better than the other weld metals in the case of no heat treatment, however, its resistance was considerably decreased with post weld heat treatment(annealing:$625^{\circ}C$, 2 hr) compared to other weld metals. The weld metals of E4313 and E4316 showed a relatively good corrosion resistance by post weld heat treatment.

The external corrosion of buried piping can be controlled using both coating and cathodic protection. Several factors are involved in the damage and deterioration of the coating on pipes. There are many detection methods for coating defects on pipes and the direct current voltage gradient (DCVG) method is one of the most powerful methods. However, the detection reliability of DCVG can be affected by interferences such as stray current, metal objects connected to rectifiers, and copper grids. Therefore, this study focused on the interference effects of rectifiers and a copper grid on the reliability of coating flaw detection. As the length of the interference pipe connected to the rectifier increased, the reliability decreased. In contrast, as the distance between the pipe and the copper grid increased, the reliability of the coating flaw detection increased. The detection results produced by the DCVG method were discussed using current and potential simulations for a pipe with a rectifier and copper grid interference in the soil.
Reduction of chromate ion at the Pt-electrode was investigated in neutral unbuffered solutions, in buffered solutions of pH between 8 and 10, and in strongly alkaline medium. In buffered solutions of pH between 8 and 10, the number of electrons transfered in the reduction of chromate ion increased progressively with increasing pH. When chromate ion was reduced in 0.2 N sodium hydroxide medium the following mechanism was suggested: $CrO_4^=+H_2O+2e{\rightarrow}CrO_3^=+2OH^-,\;CrO_3^=3H_2O+e{\rightarrow}Cr(OH)_3+3OH^-$ When tetramethylammonium hydroxide (pH=13.5) was used as the supporting electrolyte, a second wave indicated strong adsorption. In unbuffered solutions of 0.1 N potassium chloride the linear sweep voltammogram consists of three or four distinct waves depending on the initial voltage and the voltage sweep rates, but the first wave was difficult to explain as a diffusion controlled wave.
The mechanisms of the electrode reaction of chlorate ion were investigated, using Pt-electrode, by means of the technique of galvanostatic double pulses. For double current pulses (a cathodic pulse followed by an anodic pulse), the mechanism of the electrode reaction of chlorate ion over a current density range from 20 ma/cm2 to 25 ma/cm2 was suggested as the following: $CIO_3^-\;{\longrightarrow^{I}_{n_{1c}}\;CIO_2^-\;{\longrightarrow^{II}_{n_{2a}}\;CIO^-\;{\longrightarrow^{I'}_{n_{1a}}\;CIO_2^-\;{\longrightarrow^{II'}_{n_{2a}}\;CIO_4^-$ For a higher current density from 40 ma/cm2, it was suggested as the following: $CIO_3^-\;{\longrightarrow^{III}_{n_c}}\;CIO^-\;{\longrightarrow^{I'}_{n_{1a}}\;CIO_2^-\;{\longrightarrow^{II'}_{n_{2a}}\;CIO_4^-$ or $CIO_3^-\;{\longrightarrow_{n_c}}\;CIO^-\;{\longrightarrow_{n_a}}\;CIO_4^-$

The electrochemical reduction reactions of N '-aryl-N-alkyl-N-nitrosourea derivatives with a glassy carbon electrode were diffusion controlled and irreversible. The exchange kinetic constant ko values for reduction reaction of the N '-aryl-N-alkyl-N-nitrosoureas were at the range of $1.48{\times}10^{-6}{\sim}5.32{\times}10^{-7}\;cm/sec.$ The $k_0$ values for phenyl substituted on the aryl position were about 1.3∼2.8 times higher than that of other substituents. The same substituent for aryl groups on the both of N '-aryl-N-alkyl-N-nitrosourea and N '-aryl-N-(2-chloroethyl)-N-nitrosourea exhibited same value. The $E_p$ value was shifted to the negative direction as pH increased. The number of protons participated to the reduction was 4∼5, respectively. The substituent effect of aryl group on the reduction potential was not observed in this case.
Metal-organic frameworks have recently been considered very promising modifiers in electrochemical analysis due to their unique characteristics among which tunable pore sizes, crystalline ordered structures, large surface areas and chemical tenability are worth noting. In the present research, $Cu(btec)_{0.5}DMF$ was electrodeposited on the surface of glassy carbon electrode at room temperature under cathodic potential and was initially used as the active materials for the detection of $H_2O_2$. The cyclic voltammogram of $Cu(btec)_{0.5}DMF$ modified GC electrode shows distinct redox peaks potentials at +0.002 and +0.212 V in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (pH 6.5) corresponding to $Cu^{(II)}/Cu^{(I)}$ in $Cu(btec)_{0.5}DMF$. Acting as the electrode materials of a non-enzymatic $H_2O_2$ biosensor, the $Cu(btec)_{0.5}DMF$ brings about a promising electrocatalytic performance. The high electrocatalytic activity of the $Cu(btec)_{0.5}DMF$ modified GC electrode is demonstrated by the amperometric response towards $H_2O_2$ reduction with a wide linear range from $5{\mu}M$ to $8000{\mu}M$, a low detection limit of $0.865{\mu}M$, good stability and high selectivity at an applied potential of -0.2 V, which was higher than some $H_2O_2$ biosensors.
The aims of this study were to determine the corrosion behavior of pure copper in the presence of Desulfovibrio sp. and also to investigate the effects of glutaraldehyde (GD) and isothiazolinone (ISO) on the corrosion behavior of pure copper in the presence of this sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) strain by using electrochemical techniques. Electrochemical measurements of pure copper were carried out at specified time intervals (0, 8, 24, 48, and 96 hr) over a period of exposure. Corrosion rates of pure copper from anodic and cathodic Tafel slopes and corrosion potential ($E_{corr}$) were determined. Biofilm and corrosion products on the copper surfaces were observed by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry (EDS) analyses. The effects of solution types (PC (Postgate's C medium) and SRB (Desulfovibrio sp.)) and exposure times of copper and biocides (ISO or GD) on the corrosion rates of pure copper were evaluated by statistical analyses. As a result of the FESEM analysis, biofilm formation was observed on the surfaces of pure copper exposed to the Desulfovibrio sp. cultures both with and without the biocides. The results show that the pure copper was corroded by Desulfovibrio sp. However, the addition of GD or ISO to the Desulfovibrio sp. culture resulted in a decrease in the corrosion rate of the pure copper. It was also observed that both of the biocides showed a similar effect on pure copper's corrosion rate caused by Desulfovibrio sp.
To improve electronic conductivity of cathodic active materials of lithium ion battery, carbonaceous materials is usually added. New mixing method of abrasive milling has been investigated in mixing of graphite and $LiCoO_2$ powders. It would be expected that uniform mixing of graphite reduces capacity fading of cathode of lithium battery. Abrasion milled $LiCoO_2$ composite showed the best electrochemical performance as a cathode material with 1 wt% of graphite content, 300 rpm of milling speed, and 10 min of milling time. The improvement of the electrochemical performances such as cycleability and charge/discharge capacity retention would be mainly attributed to increase of the electronic conductivity and/or prevention of the active materials by uniform dispersion and coating of graphite on $LiCoO_2$.

In chip plating, several parameters must be taken into consideration. Current density, solution concentration, pH, solution temperature, components volume, chip and media ratio, barrel geometrical shape were most likely found to have an effect to the process yields. The 3 types of barrels utilized in chip plating industry are the onventional rotating barrel, vibrational barrel(vibarrel), and the centrifugal type. Conventional rotating barrel is a close type and is commonly used. The components inside the barrel are circulated by the barrel's rotation at a horizontal axis. Process yield has known to have higher thickness deviation. The vibrational barrel is an open type which offers a wide exposure to electrolyte resulting to a stable thickness deviation. It rotates in a vertical axis coupled with multi-vibration action to facilitate mixed up and easy transportation of components. The centrifugal barrel has its plated work centrifugally compacted against the cathode ring for superior electrical contact with simultaneous rotary motion. This experiment has determined the effect of barrel vibration intensity to the plating thickness distribution. The procedures carried out in the experiment involved the overall plating process., cleaning, rinse, Nickel plating, Tin-Lead plating. Plating time was adjusted to meet the required specification. All other parameters were maintained constant. Two trials were performed to confirm the consistency of the result. The thickness data of the experiment conducted showed thatbthe average mean value obtained from higher vibrational intensity is nearer to the standard mean. The distribution curve shown has a narrower specification limits and it has a reduced variation around the target value. Generally, intensity control in vi-barrel facilitates mixed up and easy transportation of components. However, it is desirable to maintain an optimum vibration intensity to prevent solution intrusion into the chips' internal electrode. A cathodic reaction can occur in the interface of the external and internal electrode. 2H20 + e $\rightarrow$M/TEX> 20H + H2.. Hydrogen can penetrate into the body and create pressure which can cause cracks. At high intensity, the chip's motion becomes stronger, its contact between each other is delayed and so plating action is being controlled. However, the strong impact created by its collision can damage the external electrode's structure there by resulting to bad plating condition.
