Casual Game Production Using Spritekit (스프라이트킷을 활용한 융복합 캐주얼 게임 제작)

  • This paper will discuss the process behind creating casual games utilizing Spritekits. Casual games, which recently have been on this rise due to the increasing use of personal adhered media and SNS, are significant in that they are leading the way to various changes in the gaming industry whilst making it popular. With this background in mind, and through research on Casual Games, we have divided the production process of Casual Games into three parts and created the game "Round and Round" which utilizes Spritekits. We have sectioned and organized the production process of Casual Games into four parts as followed: information architecture, design, program development, and debugging. This research will propose an easier methodology to approaching the production of casual games and be a guideline for creating games with the minimal amount of personnel.

  • Online game business has emerged as the most lucrative entertainment industry, with over 10 million players in South Korea and over 30 million in Japan in 2005. The popularity of online games can be attributed to the availability of broadband network, pushing online games into the mainstream entertainment culture. The age distribution of online game players is expanding and a variety of new games are under development to target certain age groups. While the interactive entertainment market continues to expand, with many new online game publishers entering Japan, relatively little is known about which factors influence online game players' behavioral intentions to play continuously in this area. It appears that in this extremely attractive and growing services segment, academics, as well as practitioners, would benefit from investigating the difference, among the types of players, in demographic and social trends, perceptions related to game-design factors, and attitude toward the games. Based on data collected from online questionnaire survey, the differences between hardcore and casual players have been analyzed, and interesting conclusions have been provided concerning the online-game design and development strategies for Japan online-game players.

A study on the dual characteristics play of Pokémon game (<포켓몬스터>게임 플레이의 이중적 특성 연구)

  • It has been a year since the $Pok{\acute{e}}monGo$ has been released. Over the past year, the $Pok{\acute{e}}monGo$ have become a social phenomenon. This study analyzes the dual characteristics play of the original $Pok{\acute{e}}mon$ game. The Pocket Monster game, which has both casual and hardcore capabilities, has a broader player base and enjoys popularity for 20 years, satisfying the requirement of easy and convenient access, which is an advantage of casual games. In addition, the rating battle system of $Pok{\acute{e}}mon$ game turns casual play into hardcore play. In this paper, we analyze the dual play characteristics of longevity games such as Pocket Monsters, and propose strategies and directions for game development that can survive long term in the competitive game market.

  • Due to smart phones introduced since 2007, mobile contents production become activated and with this trend, attention among different age groups to production of mobile games has been growing. Whereas in the past, development of games was the domain of developers equipped with technical knowledge, provision of editor-type engines in recent times is lowering the high barrier of entry to game production. This paper proposes an event-based module design method from the perspective of general users, aimed at producing games by oneself with a Unity 3D, one of editor-type game engines. This is to plan behaviors and roles in the unit of modules in the whole process of a game to be in line with the perspective of game production by one person. Each module includes diverse events that express game characteristics. In addition, the script function provided by the Unity 3D is appropriate to embody the proposed module structure and utilizes the Unity 3D. Lastly, this study produce a simple 3D mobile casual game in order to verify whether effective game production from the planning to the development is possible through the proposed method.

  • 최근 급속도로 성장하는 모바일 시장은 게임 산업에서 가장 대표적인 게임 플랫폼으로 국내외에서 상당히 많은 수익과 성장을 이루고 있다. 매년 새로운 게임이 출시되서 유저들이 많이 플레이하지만 정작 몇 주 만에 유저들이 많이 빠져나오면서 실패한 게임들이 매년 나온다는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 실패하는 게임 개발을 줄이고 모바일게임 장르중에 대표적인 캐주얼 게임을 대상으로 남이도 조절을 통해서 유저들이 몰입하는 게임을 개발할 수 있는 내용을 제안하고자 한다.

  • 우리나라는 온라인 게임 개발의 글로벌 리더로서 MMORPG 장르와 캐주얼 아케이드 장르를 중심으로 다양한 게임을 만들어왔다. 하지만 MMORPG와 캐주얼 아케이드 게임의 과도한 경쟁은 장르의 편중 현상을 가져오게 되었고, 신선하고 새로운 재미를 기대하는 플레이어들의 요구와 결합하여 FPS(First Person Shooting) 장르나 스포츠 게임 장르 등의 새로운 장르 게임에 대한 연구와 개발로 이어졌다. 이러한 시대적 흐름 속에 대한민국 스포츠게임 개발 선구자인 조이시티는 길거리 농구 게임인 '프리스타일'을 개발하여 엄청난 화제를 불러일으켰고, 많은 개발사 및 개발자들에게 큰 영감을 선사하였다. 프리스타일의 후속작인 프리스타일2는 길거리 농구 게임의 재미를 더욱 현실감 있게 제공하고자 개발된 캐주얼 스포츠 장르 게임으로, 본 논문에서는 프리스타일2의 게임플레이 개발 사례를 통해 캐주얼 스포츠 장르의 개발 방법에 대한 한 예를 제시하고자 한다.

  • Digital game is an entertainment content as well as a cultural content so that digital game can deliver social messages to make people confront with current problems. Based on Gonzalo Frasca's expanded model theory, this study aims to analyze independent games parodying reality on the level of the narrative and the gameplay to demonstrate that digital game can be a powerful medium to represent a satire on society. Parody games describe irrational side of society as being comical and provoke players' repetitive gameplay. Therefore, players can experience serious theme through casual play in the first-person, and realize the tragic reality directly.

  • Casual games are easy in terms of control and mode, and thus everyone can enjoy them in their free time. Character games, in particular, feature a variety of cute and attractive characters. Such character games are now available for smartphones, which are used by a large number of users, as well as for PCs. This paper is aimed at demonstrating the design of 2D side-scrolling casual shooting games utilizing Unity 3D Engine, which can be manipulated on smartphones. Unity 3D engine was used because it supports multi-platform with low costs, and it makes it possibile for games to be operated on various platforms using a single program source code. This approach is unique because the design of the games uses cute characters, attractive concepts and easy control, targeting users in their 10s or 20s, unlike existing shooting games that are serious.

  • This study tried to suggest the effective future marketing strategies by analysing marketing strategies of five brands which were selected by sales amount and the growth rate among young casual brands in the L-Department store from 2001 to 2002. According to analysis, brand marketing could summarize to five marketing strategies such as culture marketing, emotion marketing, co-marketing, on-line marketing, and propose marketing. Culture marketing includes 'BB family marketing, star marketing, core marketing, experience marketing. One of the emotion marketing is 'Kidult marketing' which affects cute concept. Co-marketing includes 'Charisma marketing' that cooperates with distribute industry, 'Movata marketing' which cooperates with mobile communication industry, and 'Game marketing' which cooperates with game industry. There are some other marketing strategies such as consumer calling marketing, A.S.A. marketing which is for buyers, QR marketing for quick response, Web site's differentiate marketing and Logo marketing. The suggested marketing strategies for on-coming brands are 'distinguished strategy of the online contents', 'consumer calling strategy' and 'loyalty maximizing strategy'.

  • 비디오 게임 산업은 최근 몇 년 동안 폭발적인 성장을 경험했으며 글로벌 시장의 규모는 2024년까지 2,560억 달러(326조 원 이상)으로 시장규모를 예상하고 있다. 이러한 성장의 주요 요인에는 스마트폰의 발전으로 모바일 게임의 인기 증가라고 할 수 있음. 스마트폰과 태블릿의 보급이 확산되면서 사람들은 이동 중에 어디에서나 게임에 쉽게 접근하고 플레이할 수 있게 되면서 모바일 게임의 인기가 급증했다. 이러한 인기는 기존의 비디오 게임 장르에서 변형된 새로운 복합장르의 게임들을 탄생시키고 모바일 게임 시장에서 2014년부터 부각되어 온 하이퍼 캐주얼 장르의 성공사례는 이미 많은 논문이나 게임 장르에 관한 연구사례를 통하여 확인할 수 있다. 팬데믹을 계기로 급성장한 하이퍼 캐주얼 게임 시장은 최근 경쟁 심화로 수익성이 저하되면서, 그 대안으로 하이브리드 캐주얼 게임이라는 새로운 변형 장르가 주목받고 있으며 새로운 장르로 부상한 하이브리드 캐주얼 게임 장르의 정의와 이해를 돕고자 하며 향후 게임 장르의 동향 및 전망을 제시하고자 한다.
