  • It's very important to find the most appropriate adhesion technique available, taking into consideration factors such as biocompatibility, non-corrosiveness, mechanical stability, etc. Laser welding is the best choice you can make because from a mechanical viewpoint, a laser welded surface has better particle structure than does a casted particle structure. Furthermore, it requires no additional material and the same metal alloy which is used when casting can be used. Therefore, the resulting mixture will consist of a single alloy, instead of utilizing different alloy combinations. Another benefit is the low economic cost. The most beneficial aspects of laser welding is that it is biologicallly friendlly, doesn't require soldering, can fuse different metal alloys together, and can weld on heat-sensitive spots(E.g. around resin or ceramic). A consistent strong pulse is possible. This technique is capable of welding on master models and creates accurate welds. It is capable of due to its stronger, non-corrosive microscope, which allows 25times magnification during the soldering process. This is possible because of its high stability from the tiny particle structure.

  • The behavior of hydrogen in the steel making process was investigated. The relation between the composition of ladle slag and hydrogen concentration in molten steel was considered. The hydrogen distribution ratio between ladle slag and molten steel was increased with increasing basicity of the slag; it was about 20 when the basicity of slag was 15. Hydroxyl capacity measured from the hydrogen distribution ratio between slag and the molten steel was comparatively corresponding to the value of hydroxyl capacity measured by the equilibrium reaction of slag and $H_2O$ gas. However, it is considerably different from the value calculated by regular solution model. The influence of hydrogen on a sticking type breakout is considered. The effect of hydrogen and $H_2O$ gas on the crystallization behavior of mold powder was investigated by DHTT (Dual hot thermocouple technique). As a result, it was proved that mold powder could be crystallized by $H_2O$ gas in the atmosphere. Therefore, it is concluded that $H_2O$ gas in the atmosphere can be a possible cause of the sticking type breakout that occasionally occurs in the continuous casting process.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of dental fixed prostheses fabricated by 3DP (three-dimensional printing). Methods: Ten main models were prepared for the study. Ten specimens were printed by 3DP (3DP group). Ten specimens were fabricated by the lost wax technique and casting method to complete the control group (LWC group). The marginal fit was measured for 20 specimens. The measurement of marginal fit was performed using the silicon replica technique. Finally, the marginal fit of 10 specimens from each group was calculated. An independent sample t-test was run to see if the calculated averages for the two groups were mutually significant (α=0.05). Results: According to the experimental results, the mean marginal fit of the 3DP group was 71.9 ㎛, and the LWC group was 55.3 ㎛. The means of the two groups were found to be significantly different (p<0.001) in the results of the independent sample t-test. Conclusion: The marginal fit of fixed dental prostheses produced by 3DP technology was examined with values greater than those fabricated by traditional technology. However, as it appeared to be a value within the range of clinically acceptable range recommended by numerous studies, it was determined that clinical application would be feasible.

  • The galvanostatic polarization technique was used to accelerate corrosion in high chromium cast iron (HCCI) immersed in a simulated slurry solution of 0.1 mol dm-3 H2SO4, 0.05 mol dm-3 HCl, and 10 wt% SiC. The HCCI contained 27 wt% of Cr and 2.8 wt% of C, and its microstructure mainly comprised austenitic and carbide phases. A two-electrode system using a dense carbon rod and the HCCI sample was employed for the galvanostatic polarization by applying an anodic current for 24 hours. The corrosion rate increased upon applying the anodic current, but the increase was not significant, particularly for current densities higher than 10 µA cm-2. Following polarization, the corrosion morphology revealed that the anodic current accelerated surface corrosion in the HCCI; however while the depth of the corroded area increased, the increase was not substantial. The propagation behavior of the anodic current and its impact on corrosion were further discussed.

  • Sedimentation changes related with bottom shear stress attenuation at JangHang channel in the Keum River Estuary, where several huge coastal constructions including an estuarine dam have been conducted for last 2 decades, were evaluated for 7 cases to figure out passage hindrance through the channel by a hydrodynamic model using hind-casting technique from 1988 to 2000 at every 2 years interval. Due to the construction of Keum River Estuary Dam, the maximum bottom shear stress rapidly lessened to $0.2-0.6N/m^2$ compared to$1-2N/m^2$ in natural status. Especially it marks below the critical shear stress of $0.4N/m^2$ resulting in severe siltation in the channel just after the closing of dam gates in 1994. It is concluded that the dam may block the tidal energy propagation to upstream and directly results in sedimentation environment in front of dam site. It is also revealed that at least 20% of passage hindrance of small fishing boats through the channel could be counted due to sedimentation by analysis of predicted mean spring tides.

  • Recently, digital watermarking has been proposed as a viable solution to the need of copyright protection and authentication of multimedia data. A robust wavelet-based watermark casting scheme and a watermark retrieval technique are suggested in this paper. We present a method which can add the watermark to the significant coefficients in the DWT domain, and does not require the original image in the detection process. In adaptive watermark casting method is developed to select perceptually significant coefficients for each subband using multiple threshold. In the proposed method, an adaptive multiple threshold scheme is used to reflect characteristics of each subband and complexity of image. The watermark is adaptively weighted in different subbands to achieve robustness as well as high perceptual quality. The watermark, Gaussian random sequence is added to the large coefficients but not in the lowest subband in the DWT domain. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produced visually very good watermarked image which has good invisibility to human eyes and very robust against various image processing and compression attacks.

  • This study intends to identify manufacturing techniques, including casting and alloy composition, of nine metal Buddha statues excavated from archaeological sites in Bagan, Myanmar. Two Buddha statues from Pyu city state(2nd to 9th century) contain Cu-Sn alloy(including <1 wt% Fe), with different relatively high percentages of Sn(16 wt% and 25 wt%) identified from each Buddha statue, and no Pb detected. Five Buddha statues from the Bagan dynasty contain various alloy ratios of Cu-Sn(including <1 wt% Pb), Cu-Sn-Pb, and Cu-Sn-Zn-Pb. All Buddha statues appear to be fabricated by casting, as there is no evidence of other heat treatments. The silver Buddha statue manufactured in the 18th century includes >1% Cu besides silver with no additional metallic components identified. The bronze Buddha statue manufactured in the Konbaung dynasty(18th century) is of Cu-Sn-Pb alloy. The Buddha statues of Pyu was alloy of Cu-Sn without Pb including ahigh percentage of The Buddha statues of both the Bagan and Konbaung dynasties are comprised of ternary Cu-Sn-Pb alloys, with a heterogeneous distribution of lead and tin. Some of Buddha statues of the Bagan dynasty have similar alloy ratios as those of Pyu, suggesting that similar manufacturing techniques were used.

  • An eco-friendly production technique of Al-8.6Ti-0.025C refiner was developed by melting a Al-Ti master alloy in a graphite crucible, in which the potential nucleation site, TiC effectively formed by the spontaneous in-situ reaction between excessive Ti and carbon from graphite crucible. The A3003 alloy refined by the Al-8.6Ti-0.025C showed effectively refined macrostructure and enhanced mechanical properties comparable to the commercial Al-Ti-B refiner. The effective refinement was achieved in a shorter compare to the melt-treating time commercial Al-Ti-B refiner.
