In evaluating current environmental protection policy, economists often note that current regulations are more costly than necessary to meet environmental quality standards. While the a priori case can be made that current regulatory approaches entail higher-than-necessary costs to attain environmental standards, there is relatively little empirical evidence to support this claim in Korea. The purpose of this analysis is to supply some of the missing evidence by presenting the results of one study that assesses some of the potential savings associated with implementing economic, rather than command-and-control regulatory approaches to abate one type of air pollution in one region, in Korea, Specifically, the analysis examine the costs of meeting a long-term standard for TSP under the alternative control strategies for stationary sources of TSP in Ulsan Industrial Complex region. The alternative strategies that are considered are current command-and-control and various marketable permit designs. The analysis shows that the most efficient policy of emissions control is economic approaches, supporting results of previous empirical studies conducted in other countries.
The practical studies on the method of particle contamination control for yield enhancement in the cleanroom were carried out. The method of the contamination control was proposed, which are composed of data collection, data analysis, improvement action, verification, and implement control. The partition check method for data collection and data analysis was used in the cellular phone module production lines. And this method was evaluated by the variation of yield loss between before and after improvement action. In case that the partition check method was applied, the critical process step was selected and yield loss reduction through improvement actions was observed. From these results, it is concluded that the partition check method is effective solution for particle contamination control in the cleanroom production lines.
This paper presents optimized structured treatment interruption to reduce medication and establish long-term immune response against HIV-infection. Understanding HIV-related immune system control enables better HIV therapy without using fulltreatments. Discrete regimen and continuous regimen characteristics are compared. Controllability of HIV-related immune system is analyzed for better understanding of optimal control in HIV therapy. Using optimal control provides more effective therapy than the full treatment without interruption in terms of controllability analysis. Case studies indicates that the proposed therapy induces long-erm non-progression while preserving high CD4 T-helper cell count and low virus load in HIV-infected patients.
Cyber-Physical system(CPS) is characterized by collaborating computational elements controlling physical entities. In CPS, human desire to acquire useful information and control devices anytime and anywhere automatically has increased the necessity of a high reliable system. However, the physical world where CPS is deployed has management complexity and maintenance cost of 'CPS', so that it is impossible to make reliable systems. Thus, this paper presents an 'Autonomic Control System towards High-reliable Cyber-Physical Systems' that comprise 8-steps including 'fault analysis', 'fault event analysis', 'fault modeling', 'fault state interpretation', 'fault strategy decision', 'fault detection', 'diagnosis&reasoning' and 'maneuver execution'. Through these activities, we fascinate to design and implement 'Autonomic control system' than before. As a proof of the approach, we used a ISR(Intelligent Service Robot) for case study. The experimental results show that it achieves to detect a fault event for autonomic control of 'CPS'.
In this paper, we deal with modeling and analysis for mobile manipulator systems. In order to avoid the difficulties occurring due to slippage or unevenness of the terrain, we propose the utilization of minimum actuators. In this case, the resulting systems typically possess kinematic redundancies which can be beneficially employed for correcting the position error. A simple PD control method along with kinematic redundancy is employed to recover position errors for trajectory control in task space. Several primary and secondary criteria utilizing kinematic redundancy of the mobile manipulator system are tested through graphic animation.
For the control of chemical process, optimal value of the process should be known at first. And process simulation is the previous step of optimal value calculation. However it is not a simple work to analyze chemical process system. Especially for the large scale chemical process system, many difficulties such as non-linearity and complexity caused by recycle streams should be overcome. In this paper, three strategies of large scale chemical process analysis were explained and discussed with case studies.
Current software cost estimation models, such as the 1951 COCOMO, its 1987 Ada COCOMO update, is composed of nonlinear models, such as product attributes, computer attributes, personnel attributes, project attributes, effort-multiplier cost drivers, and have been experiencing increasing difficulties in estimating the costs of software developed to new lift cycle processes and capabilities. The COCOMO II is developed fur new forms against the current software cost estimation models. This paper provides a case-based analysis result of the cost driver in the software cost models, such as COCOMO and COCOMO 2.0 by fuzzy and neural network.
At this paper Dynamic respones of bridges for the Korean high-speed railway are analyzed by a modal analysis. To control vibration of bridges, Tuned Mass Damper(TMD) that is passive type control device is used. Opimize and prove it. Newmark method is used for a numerical analysis. In case of vehicle is modeled for moving mass that considers the effects of the moving. Also this paper is assumped as the simple supported Bernoulli-Euler beam and considered two dimensional Interaction motion between vehicle and bridge.
To effectively develop and evaluate air pollution control measures, health risk rates due to air pollution must be identified. This article describes the application of a visual analysis and an air pollution-health risk model for determining the impacts of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure on angina pectoris patients in a metropolitan area. The procedures used for analyzing the relationship between CO exposure and the related increase in angina angina attacks for stable angina pectoris patients are described through a case study in the city of Seoul, Korea and the findings show that air-pollution-health risk model and visual analysis can be effective tools for environmental decision-makers, allowing air pollution control scenarios to be developed and evaluated for environmental protection. One of the features of this study is to provide a methodology for translating clinical findings into estimates of the relative contributions of air pollution to all causes of a particular disease. Therefore, there must be appropriate recognition of the uncertainties involved in the study.
In this paper, the case study of reducing rotational errors is done for a grinding spindle with an active magnetic bearing system. The rotational errors acting on the magnetic bearing spindle are due to mass unbalance of rotor, runout, grinding excitation and unmodeled nonlinear dynamics of electromagnets. For the most case, the electrical runout of sensor target is big even in well-finished surface; this runout can cause a rotation error amplified by feedback control system. The adaptive feedforward method based on LMS algorithm is discussed to compensate this kind of runout effects, and investigated its effectiveness by numerical simulation and experimental analysis. The rotor orbit size in both bearings is reduced about to 5 pin due to lX rejection by feedforward control up to 50,000 rpm.
