  • Mature embryo and leaf base segment of Korean oat were used as materials in an experiment to check plant regeneration efficiency. MS media supplemented with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), kinetin, and picloram were used for callus induction from mature embryos and leaf base segments. Three mg/l of 2,4D and 3 mg/l of picloram in callus induction medium showed high frequency for plant regeneration from mature embryos. Leaf base segments were transferred to callus induction medium and incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ in 16/8 hr light/dark cycle for 3 weeks. Callus induction from leaf base segments of Malgwiri showed high efficiency in medium containing 3 mg/l of 2,4-D and 1 mg/l of kinetin $(91.8\%)$. In case of Samhangwiri, the combinations of phytohormones did not show significant difference. Regeneration from leaf base segments showed high frequency in shoot medium containing 1 mg/l of antiauxin, tri-iodobenzoic acid (TIBA) and 1 mg/l of 6-benzyladenine (BA). Calli induced from leaf base segments of Samhangwiri and Malgwiri in media containing 3 mg/l of 2,4-D and 3 mg/l of picloram showed high regeneration frequency. It appears that the callus initiation medium may be an important factor for subsequent plant regeneration.

  • Aloe is a popular and effective agent used to cosmetic ingredient. It could replace artificial pigment on make-up base product and it is highly probable that might be useful as ingredients of multi-functional color cosmetic. In this study, we made a makeup base containing aloe extract and tested the effectiveness, safety and stability. Contents of polyphenol and flavonoid from the aloe extract were measured. To determine the antimicrobial effect from the aloe we used the paper disc diffusion method. We assessed the safety of make-up base containing aloe to cultured macrophage RAW 264.7 cells by MTT assay. Polyphenol contents of aloe extract and flavonoid respectively were 48 mg/g and 10 mg/g, in the 10 % concentration aloe extract. In case of aloe make-up base, the clear zone against Stapylococcus epidermidis was 9~11 mm and Stapylococcus aureus was also 9~11 mm. Growth activity of macrophage RAW 264.7 cells was over 80% in all concentration of make-up base containing aloe and general make base product. In conclusion aloe extract may be able to substitute the synthetic pigments and considered to be uses for ingredients multi-functional color cosmetic's ingredient.

  • This study focuses on the development of the liquid air production process that uses LNG (liquefied natural gas) cold energy which usually wasted during the regasification stage. The liquid air can be transported to the LNG exporter, and it can be utilized as the cold source to replace certain amount of refrigerant for the natural gas liquefaction. Therefore, the condition of the liquid air has to satisfy the available pressure of LNG storage tank. To satisfy pressure constraint of the membrane type LNG tank, proposed process is designed to produce liquid air at 1.3bar. In proposed process, the air is precooled by heat exchange with LNG and subcooled by nitrogen refrigeration cycle. When the amount of transported liquid air is as large as the capacity of the LNG carrier, it could be economical in terms of the transportation cost. In addition, larger liquid air can give more cold energy that can be used in natural gas liquefaction plant. To analyze the effect of the liquid air production amount, under the same LNG supply condition, the proposed process is simulated under 3 different air flow rate: 0.50 kg/s, 0.75 kg/s, 1.00 kg/s, correspond to Case1, Case2, and Case3, respectively. Each case was analyzed thermodynamically and economically. It shows a tendency that the more liquid air production, the more energy demanded per same mass of product as Case3 is 0.18kWh higher than Base case. In consequence the production cost per 1 kg liquid air in Case3 was $0.0172 higher. However, as liquid air production increases, the transportation cost per 1 kg liquid air has reduced by $0.0395. In terms of overall cost, Case 3 confirmed that liquid air can be produced and transported with $0.0223 less per kilogram than Base case.

  • This paper examines degradation properties of alkali-activated alumino-silicate composite body by NAS solution exposed to high temperature. Activators include sodium hydroxides and sodium silicate solution. In the result of experiment, flexural and compressive strength of AAS base mortar exposed to high temperature ($400\~600^{\circ}C$) was higher than alumina cement base mortar. Particularly, In case of compressive strength, alumina cement base mortar was decreased by about $60\~70\%$. While, AAS base mortar exposed to high temperature ($400\~600^{\circ}C$) was higher than that curing by room temperature. The above results showed that AAS base inorganic binder has a good mechanical properties exposed to high temperature($400\~600$).

  • Cement stabilisation is a common method for stabilising recycled road base material and provides a longer pavement life. With cement effect, the increment of stiffness in the stabilised layer would provide better load transfer to the pavement foundation. The recycling method provides an environmentally option as the existing road base materials will not be removed. This paper presents a case study of a trial section along the North-South Expressway in West Malaysia, where the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) was implemented to evaluate the compressive strength and in-situ stiffness of the cement stabilised road base material. The improvement in stiffness of the cement stabilised base layer was monitored, and samples were tested during the trial. FWD was found to be useful for the structural assessment of the cement-stabilised base layer prior to placement of asphalt layers. Results from the FWD were applied to verify the assumed design parameters for the pavement. Using the FWD, an empirical correlation between the deflection and the stiffness modulus of the pavement foundation is proposed.

  • The objective of this report is to investigate and analyze the influnce of the different base concrete in consistency for the good production of superplasticized concrete (SPC) on the basis of the experimental results. The principal conclusions are summarized as follows. 1. SPC exhibited only slight bleeding in both cases of low and medium consistency of the base concrete, compared to the conventional concrete, compared to the coventional concrete. 2. SPC lost slump and flow value at a much faster rate than the conventional concrete with an equivalent water/cement ratio and initial consistency. 3. The compressive strength of SPC was fount to be higher than that of base and conventional concrete, and the case of base concrete with medium consistency showed a little more incretment than low consistency

  • The Extension of Base is a fundamental Method to expend the moduli in RNS(Residue Number System). RNS has the benefit of parallelism and no carry propagation at each moduli, but division , extension of base and etc. is the problem of RNS in case of the operation speed.Generally this method is applied to system using Mixed Radix Conversion. it appears to decrease the size of Arithmetic Unit, but increasing the time of operation. So in this paper, the Improved Extension of Base is proposed using Chinese Remainder Theorem. it has the comparative small size and Improved speed.

  • This paper reports a study on determination of the adequate location of 100 MVA STATCOM regarding the transfer capability enhancement on the metropolitan interface as well as the economy in system operation. The base case in the study was established considering a scenario of the energy support to North Korea from the KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) system through a HVDC interconnection. In the base case, the energy support was approximately modeled with a load of 1500 MW, and by the load addition, the system was weakened in terms of voltage stability and transfer capability. After a thorough investigation on the case, the location of the STATCOM was decided to compensate the reactive deficit of the modified system and to maximize the operational benefit which can be estimated by FV analysis.
