  • The study is to systematically review "DaedongYeojiJeondo", the mid-sized wood block map of Chosun to shed light on the cartographic characteristics not discovered by previous studies. First it was discovered that Kim Jung-ho is the developer of the map as the distance information from Seoul to towns is identical with the information on "Daedong Jiji" the manuscript map drawn by Kim Jung-ho himself (assumed to live from 1804~1866) that is still remaining unfinished. Second, the information Kim Jung-ho wanted to specify most precisely and specifically was distance from Seoul to towns and for this purpose he invented unique symbols for towns in tiny size on the map. Third, in selecting information to mark on the map including road network, street information, mountain routes and streams and location of islands, "DaedongYeojiJeondo" is not just a simple smaller copy of "DaedongYeojido" but an independent creative work as it is much different in many aspects of quality. Forth, but still "DaedongYeojiJeondo" and "DaedongYeojido" have something in common in the fact both of them tried to mark land and mountain routes and streams most precisely and specifically.

  • The objective of this work was to develop a methodology for geodetic monitoring on onshore wind towers, to ascertain the existence of displacements from object points located in the tower and at the foundation's base. The geodesic auscultation was carried out in the Gravatá 01 and 02 wind towers of the Eólica Gravatá wind farm, located in the Brazilian municipality of Gravatá-PE, using a stable Measurement Reference System. To verify the existence of displacements, pins were implanted, with semi-spherical surfaces, at the bases of the towers being monitored, measured by means of high-precision geometric leveling and around the Gravatá 02 tower, concrete landmarks, iron rods and reflective sheets were implanted, observed using geodetic/topographic methods: GNSS survey, transverse with forced centering, three-dimensional irradiation, edge measurement method and trigonometric leveling of unilateral views. It was found that in the Gravatá 02 tower the average rays of the circular sections of the transverse welds (ST) were 1.8431 m ± 0.0005 m (ST01) and 1.6994 m ± 0.0268 m of ST22, where, 01 and 22 represent the serial number of the transverse welds along the tower. The average calculation of the deflection between the coordinates of the center of the circular section of the ST22 and the vertical reference alignment of the ST1 was 0°2'39.22" ± 2.83" in the Northwest direction and an average linear difference of 0.0878 m ± 0.0078 m. The top deflection angle was 0°8'44.88" and a linear difference of ± 0.2590 m, defined from a non-linear function adjusted by Least Squares Method (LSM).

  • Due to the expensiveness of IKONOS Pro and Precision Products, it is attractive to use the low-cost IKONOS Geo Product with vendor-provided RPCs to produce highly accurate mapping products. The imaging geometry of IKONOS high-resolution imagery is described by RFs instead of rigorous sensor models. This paper presents four different models defined respectively in object space and image space to improve the accuracies of the RF-derived ground coordinates. The four models include the offset model, the scale & offset model, the affine model and the 2nd-order polynomial model. Different configurations of ground control points (GCPs) are carefully examined to evaluate the effect of the GCPs arrangement on the accuracy of ground coordinates. The experiment also evaluates the effect of different cartographic parameters such as the number location, and accuracy of GCPs on the accuracy of geopositioning.

  • GIS(Geographic Information System) technology was applied for analysis of the potential degree of regional geologic hazard, especially landslide hazards in the suburb of Seoul City, whereby a regional geologic hazard map was produced. The factors causing a landslide such as slope geometry, geology, groundwater, soil property, rainfall and vegetation were incorporated through GIS in order to predict the potential hazards in this area. Cartographic simulation was finally made with these factors to produce a regional geologic hazard map. For this study, ARC/INFO and ERDAS systems were used in SUN 4-390 workstation.

  • A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, retrieve and display the data which are referenced to geographic location. With the progress of computer graphics technologies, GIS is now become applicable to microcomputer level. A prototype Sea Information System (SIS) applicable to microcomputer has been developed for serving informations related to naval operations in the special sea areas. This system includes GIS technologies, cartographic data captured through the tablet digitizer. which results immediate displaying on pen plotters. GIS provides users with menu-driven user interface for the retrieval of informations concerning military zones, patrol area of war ship, naval bases, radar sites and its search area, missile stations, and ships' current positions. The system is currently applicable to IBM PC/AT. Minimal hardware configuration consists 640k RAM, hard disk, and pen plotter or dot matrix printer.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate material designation in library cataloging and to suggest General Material Designation (GMD) and Specific Material Designation(SMD) in Korean. A summary of the study follows. In library cataloging, methods of indicating the type of material are : (1) color-coding, (2) media code as part of the call number, (3) material designation in physical description area or note area, (4) GMD and SMD. GMD is a term indicating the broad class of material to which a bibliographic item belongs. SMD is a term indicating the special class of material to which a bibliographic item belongs. GMD was listed in parenthesis following the title proper before AACR1975 code, but currently it is listed in square brackets after the AACR1975 code. AACR2 was the standard cataloging rule in GMD and SMD terminology. It is suggested that GMD be used in Korean for graphic material, sound recordings, drawings, microform, multimedia, videorecordings, manuscripts, photographs, slides, printed music, motion pictures, printed texts, objects, braille, cartographic materials, computer files and transparenies.

  • Although the strategies and experiences of GIS leading countries are considered for the implementation of NGIS-Development in Korea, the western european nations cases are not analysed. Based on this study focused on German approaches to establish and implement the construction of national geospatial data framework. The goals, construction strategies and contexts of german national framework data, it called authoritative topographic-cartographic information system(ATKIS) in germany, are presented in detail. As a result, some lessons are suggested that can be learned by german approaches. Because we are now standing on the phase of "A Second Master Plan for National Geographic Information System", the german approach can be very for the development of the national framework database in Korea.

  • To realize GIS on internet two methods are possible. One is using java language and the other is using window API that interface with internet WWW HTTP protocol. GIS program needs to extract, classify, store in various geospatial data. But WWW HTML are statical and Impossible to input multi points and area selectioning. This study applied JAVA in Web GIS so that may handle various geographic data on internet, communicate interactively GUI interface and present, modify and powered with various means of cartographic visualization

  • It's required such information as location, size, distribution and abundance of wetlands as well as categorization of adjacent land-uses to manage effectively and to make wise planning decisions about resources of coastal area. Wetland inventory derived from the technology of Geographic Information System and remote sensing is inexpensive compared to the data based on conventional field data collection and cartographic methods. Furthermore, wetland inventory may prove to be useful references in the wetland management.

  • Extracting a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from spaceborne imagery is important for cartographic applications of remote sensing data. The procedure for such DEM generation can be divided into stereo matching, sensor modelling and DEM interpolation. Among these, DEM interpolation contributes significantly to the completeness and accuracy of a DEM and, yet, this technique is often considered "trivial". However, na\ulcornere DEM interpolation may result in a less accurate and sometimes meaningless DEM. This paper reports the performance analysis of various DEM interpolation techniques. Using a manually derived DEM as reference, a number of sample points were created randomly. Different interpolation techniques were applied to the sample points to generate DEMs. The performance of interpolation was assessed by the accuracy of such DEMs. The results showed that kriging gave the best results at all times whereas nearest neighborhood interpolation provided a fast solution with moderate accuracy when sample points were large enough.
