Purpose: The descriptive study was done to examine empowerment and job satisfaction of caregivers caring for elders in long term care facilities. Methods: Data were gathered during September 2009, through a survey methodology. The participants were 189 caregivers who worked in long-term care institutions and home care clinics located in city and rural areas. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: For the relationship between empowerment and job satisfaction, there was a significant positive correlation between empowerment and job satisfaction (r=.503, p<.01). Empowerment explained 52.5% of the variance in job satisfaction. Conclusion: The results indicate that the level of empowerment influences job satisfaction. Therefore human resources management planning should focus on increasing empowerment in these caregivers in order to raise their job satisfaction.
This study was conducted to examine the present state, types of services, difficulties, education programs, motivation, satisfaction and attitude of hospice volunteers and also to suggest supporting programs for the volunteer. For these purposes, a questionnaire was distributed among the 200 hospice volunteers in ten hospice organizations in Daejeon and Chungcheong province. In this research, 85.5% of the respondents were women and most of them were housewives in their forties and fifties. The majority of hospice volunteers had an education background of more than high school. Christianity (94%) was the dominant religion of volunteers. Among the service area of the hospice, emotional caring, such as listening closely and establishing empathy were the most frequently done by the respondents and the next one was spiritual care. Hospice volunteers who had started with altruistic motivation show more dynamic activities in emotional, spiritual, physical caring and so on, than those with non-altruistic motivation. Most of the respondents expressed that they felt a hospice volunteer was valuable. However they had a hard time to overcome the sorrow coming from sharing empathy with the dying patients. Those who had started with altruistic motivation usually took part in two times per a week and had more positive attitude. Volunteers who had been working more than five years showed better attitude than those who had been working less than three years. The longer the voluntary services, the more positive attitude experienced by volunteers. Hospice volunteers encountered the most considerable difficulty with lack of background knowledge and their actual capability. Insufficiency of time was the next reason for the considerable difficulty of the hospice volunteer. On the other hand, those who served more than twice per week replied that lack of background knowledge and their capability were the least considerable difficulty. Insufficiency of time was the reason of difficulty for male volunteers, as well as for females under thirty and those in their forties and fifties respectively. Generally most of the hospice volunteers (70%) were satisfied with their services and they usually satisfied with physical caring, spiritual caring, hospice's family caring. The less difficulty in voluntary services, more satisfaction for the volunteers in the end. There is a positive correlation between a attitude of the hospice volunteer and frequency of voluntary services while the volunteers' difficulty affect negatively their attitude as well as the frequency of voluntary services. Most of the hospice volunteers want to have more education about basic skills, volunteer's attitude and role, spirituality, the way of attending on the hospice and so on. Most of them considered discussion and sharing different cases as the most effective method. They also wish to had more supporting programs for the hospice volunteers(in the order of their needs) such as regular events, newsletters, personal concern, social meetings among the volunteers, insurance and minimum expenses. Based on the study results, more programs should be run in order to activate the voluntary services regardless of their gender and education background. A continuous practical supporting policy and education programs are required in order to provide special education and training courses considering every field of voluntary services. Expanding the role of the volunteers allows them more opportunities to take part in voluntary services and th activate participation. It is necessary to establish a new hospice system as a part public medical system, which can not only facilitate the voluntary services for a hospice but also enhance professional hospice volunteers. Finally, experts are needed to operate the voluntary services effectively.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and evaluate the collaborate transitional care program for improving continuity of care in patients transferred to general wards from ICUs. Methods: 18 years and older who were hospitalized in adult intensive care units at A university affiliated medical center was recruited for the study. The experimental group for patients transferred from an ICU consisted of 33 patients and family caregivers; 34 patients and family caregivers for the control group. This study was utilized a quasi-experimental research design. The collaborative transitional care program was administered in transfer process. Data were collected two times by interviews, medical records, and telephone using questionnaires. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the two groups on relocation stress (p<.001), perceived health status (p<.001), satisfaction of caring (p=.011), physical domain (p=.022) and mental domain (p<.001) of the QOL. There were significant differences between the families of the two groups on burden (p<.001) and satisfaction of caring (p<.001). Conclusion: The collaborative transitional care programs administered in transfer process to general wards from an ICU have positive effects on patients and families' intrinsic and extrinsic factors. This program will be able to be utilized in clinical fields to improve continuity of care for patients and families between ICUs and general wards.

As patient satisfaction is a crucial component of improved health care outcomes, there is a need to evaluate the relationship between physicians' attitude and patients' satisfaction. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between patients' satisfaction and physicians' friendly and caring attitudes by using recent physician ratings by patients. Data from a cross-sectional survey using a convenience sampling was utilized to examine the relationship between physicians' attitudes and patients' satisfaction. The independent variable was the physician's attitude, and the dependent variables were patients' satisfaction with the physician and the office setting. A total of 273,994 patients it the US were included. The patients' average (standard deviation, SD) satisfaction with the physician was 78.08 (0.14), and the average (SD) satisfaction with the office setting was 78.62 (0.12) out of 100. Physicians' attitude was a significant predicting factor impacting the patients' satisfaction with the physician and the office setting (p < 0.001). To facilitate patients' satisfaction with healthcare, a continuous effort to develop physicians' ability to communicate in an empathetic manner should be undertaken so that patients perceive their physicians as empathetic.
Objective: The purpose this study is to explore the relationship between grandmothers and mothers when grandmothers take care of their grandchildren, and to understand the particular meaning of it. Methods: The Participants were 5 grandmothers who have supported or have experience in caring for their grandchildren, and their daughters(5 working mothers) who have entrusted their children to them. In-depth interviews were conducted and analysed by the phenomenological qualitative research method. Results: Seventeen sub-constructs and 5 constructs resulted in: (1) Motivation of grandmothers and mothers for taking care of grandchildren. (2) Pressure of grandmothers and satisfaction of mothers for the support. (3) Grandmothers stepping back and saying 'Not my child' and mothers saying 'It's my child' and thinking their influence is big. (4) Consistent sacrifice of grandmothers and mothers who cannot do the same. (5) Grandmothers feeling empty after caring for their grandchildren and mothers realizing their efforts. Conclusion/Implications: This study attempted to understand the relationship between grandmothers and mothers when grandmothers take care of their grandchildren from multi-perspectives. Through the findings, the need for developing healthy relationships and a caring environment for grandmothers and their grandchildren is stressed.
Purpose: The role of medical staff gained immense significance in the context of the prolonged coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. However, few studies had explored the impact of simulation-based education on the ability of nursing students to care for the patients of COVID-19. This study provided nursing students with simulation-based education in caring for the patients of COVID-19 and confirmed its effectiveness. Methods: This study used a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were recruited from the nursing departments of two universities in Korea through convenience sampling. A total of 79 participants were included: 37 in the intervention group and 42 in the control group. The intervention group received four sessions of simulation training based on the National League for Nursing Jeffries simulation theory. Results: The intervention group showed an improvement compared to the control group in terms of knowledge related to coronavirus, confidence in performing infection control skills, and perception of preparedness for caring for the patients of COVID-19, with a high-level of satisfaction and self-confidence in learning. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of anxiety. Conclusion: This simulation is expected to be a significant strategy for alleviating the global burden in terms of staff safety and patient outcomes by improving the competencies of prospective medical staff in responding to pandemics.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of middle-aged men's family and work related variables and satisfaction. Based on the results of the study, the following was concluded ; First, there were significant differences in men's satisfaction across education level, economic variables, and occupation. Second, family related variables, work related variables, and work-family conflict were significantly correlated with satisfaction. In reference to family related variable, satisfaction was higher when marital satisfaction is good, parental stress, adult caring burden, and work-family conflict are lower. In reference to work related variables, satisfaction is higher when job stress is lower, job security is lower, and colleague relationship is good. Third, family related variables, work related variables, and work-family conflict were significantly correlated with mutually one another. Specifically, parental stress is correlated with work related variables. A higher correction was reported between work-family conflict and job stress. Finally, results of multiple regression analysis showed that these variable influenced middle-aged men's satisfaction. Moreover, the degree of explanation for satisfaction increased more, when family and work related variables, and work-family conflict add in individual character variables.
This study develops a scale to measure the practice of consideration and sharing by adolescents. This data as an object of high school students in regards to items generated from the content validity test and preliminary study stage based on the consideration scale, literature review and expert for elementary school students on a 5-point Likert scale. The factor analysis of the collected data using SPSS 20.0 2 indicated the final fators. The three fanal factors designated by the measuring items are: 'practice of consideration and sharing', 'recognition of consideration and sharing', and 'self-recognition'. As a result of analyzing students' individual variables, this study found that family relationship satisfaction and school life satisfaction had positive relationship in self-recognition, recognition of consideration and sharing, practice of consideration and sharing, and total personality score. The measurement tools developed in this study, are expected to act as valid tools to develop a program that can increase the practice of consideration and sharing activities.
This study aimed to compare job stress and job satisfaction of long-term care staffs caring for demented seniors with rating 3 and physically disabled seniors with rating 1. Survey was conducted upon 212 long-term care staffs in long-term care institutions in Ejungboo, Goyang, and Paju. There were, first of all, statistically significant differences between those groups in the level of overall stress, stress related to service subjects, and stress in service procedures. Regression analyses, secondly, showed that the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction was statistically significant only for long-term care staffs for demented seniors with rating 3. The results suggest that it is necessary to lower the level of stress especially for the staffs caring for demented seniors with rating 3. Furthermore, we need to consider the stress, that the staffs feels in the process of caring for long-term care service beneficiaries, as a important variable for intervention programs to reduce the level of stress among long-term care staffs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate autonomy, teaching effectiveness, and clinical practice satisfaction for fundamentals nursing clinical practice in student nurses. Method: The participants were 244 sophomores, who had done the practice for 8 weeks from June 17 ${\sim}.33$ August 23, 2005. Autonomy the Caring Perspective(ACP) devised by Boughn(1995) was used to measure autonomy, Instrument to Measure Effectiveness of Clinical Instructor(IMECL) by Reeve(1994) for measuring teaching effectiveness, and an instrument by Moon(2002) for measuring satisfaction. Results: After practice, the role model was seen as rich in knowledge and experience(48.77%). Desirable categories for instructor were full-time professors with a practice background and head nurses(31.97%). Average score for autonomy was 3.71(${\pm}.33$), for teaching effectiveness, 3.67(${\pm}.48$) and for satisfaction 3.51(${\pm}.38$). Autonomy scores were high for students satisfied with their major(F=5.23, p=.006), and interested In practice(F=4.38, p=.014). Teaching effectiveness scores were high for students satisfied with practice (F=2.57, p=.038). Clinical practice satisfaction scores were high for students interested in practice(F=5.01, p=.007). Relationships between autonomy and teaching effectiveness (r=.174, p=.006), and between leaching effectiveness and satisfaction showed a positive correlation(r=.632, p=.000). Conclusion: Interest in clinical practice courses in first year affect autonomy, teaching effectiveness and satisfaction.
