카플링제를 도입한 탄소섬유/나일론 6 복합재료의 기계적 성질(II) -복합재료의 계면강도 증가- (Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber/Nylon 6 Composite Introducing Coupling Agent (II) -Increasing Interfacial Strength of Composite-)

  • To improve the interfacial bonding of carbon fiber-nylon 6 composite, carbon fiber(CF) were oxidized by nitric acid treatment, and two types of graft polymer(GP) of nylon 6-g-polyacrylamide (PAAm) -water dispersable GP(WDGP) and m-cresol solu ble GP(CSGP) were treated as coupling agents. Introduction of polar groups such as -COOH, -OH, etc, on the surface of the oxidized CF was confirmed by IR spectra. The stem polymer of nylon 6 in the coupling agent (GP) could be compatible with'matrix nylon 5, and the grafted branch of PAAm on GP could react to the polar groups on the oxidized CF in composite. The interfacial strength was measured by the transverse tensile test to the fiber direction for single CF embedded nylon 6 film especially prepared and by the pull-out test method. The interfacial strength of the composite reinforced with oxidized CF is greater than that reinforced with unoxidized CF. The interfacial strength of the composite was increased by treatment of coupling agents(GPs) considerably, and the increasing tendency by the WDGP is greater than that by the CSGP. The optimum conditions of coupling agent treatment are as follows: the concentration, adsorption tlme of GP, and curing temperature are 2%, 20 minutes, and $170^{\circ}$, respectively.

A Study on the Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation of Carbon/Carbon Composite Disks

  • It is desirable to perform nondestructive evaluation (NDE) to assess material properties and part homogeneity because the manufacturing of carbon/carbon brake disks requires complicated and costly processes. In this work several ultrasonic techniques were applied to carbon/carbon brake disks (322mm ad, 135mm id) for the evaluation of spatial variations in material properties that are attributable to the manufacturing process. In a large carbon/carbon disk manufactured by chemical vapor infiltration (CYI) method, the spatial variation of ultrasonic velocity was measured and found to be consistent with the densification behavior in CYI process. Low frequency (e.g., 1-5MHz) through-transmission scans based on both amplitude and time-of-flight of the ultrasonic pulse were used for mapping out the material property inhomogeneity. Images based on both the amplitude and the time-of-flight of the transmitted ultrasonic pulse showed significant variation in the radial direction. The radial variations in ultrasonic velocity and attenuation were attributed to a density variation caused by the more efficient densification of pitch impregnation near the id and od and by the less efficient densification away from the exposed edged of the disk. Ultrasonic velocities in the edges of the disk. Ultrasonic velocities in the thickness direction were also measured as a function of location using dry-coupling transducers ; the results were consistent with the densification behavior. However, velocities in the in-plane directions (circumferential and radial) seemed to be affected more by the relative contents of fabric and chopped fiber, and less by the void content.

이중상 구조를 가진 보강성 충전제의 물리적 특성 연구 (A Study on the Physical Properties of Reinforcing Fillers with Dual Phase Structure)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 순수 카본블랙과 이중상 구조의 카본블랙 (DPCB)이 함유되어 있는 고무조성물의 물리적 특성에 대하여 조사하였다. DPCB는 FT-IR분석결과 1100~1200 파장에서 실리카 표면에 존재하는 Si-O 피크를 나타냈다. DPCB와 유기 실란커프링제 (Si69)를 함유하는 고무조성물의 가황속도는 순수 카본블랙을 함유한 고무조성물에 비해 지연되었다. Si69를 함유한 DPCB의 300% 모듈러스와 상호작용계수 ($a_f$)는 순수 카본블랙보다 높게 나타났으며, 내마모특성 지표인 피코 무게감소량은 일정하게 나타났다. DPCB의 $0^{\circ}C$에서의 tan ${\delta}$는 DPCB 50 phr 기준 실란커플링제를 2.0% 사용한 수준에서 순수 카본블랙보다 우수하였으며, $60^{\circ}C$에서의 tan ${\delta}$는 실란커프링제의 사용량이 증가 할수륵 감소하였다. 결국 본 연구에 사용된 DPCB는 일정한 마모저항을 유지하면서 회전저항을 개선하는데 적합하다고 생각한다.

  • 카본블랙은 토너수지, 잉크 및 복합재료 등에 광범위하게 산업적으로 응용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 분산 안정성을 증대시키기 위하여 카본블랙을 상 이동 촉매(phase transfer catalyst)를 이용한 상온에서의 산화반응을 통하여 카본블랙(CB)-수산화기(OH)를 제조하여 이에, silane coupling-agent인 p-methylacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane를 grafting시켜 말단에 이중결합을 가진 구조를 도입하였다. 이렇게 표면개질된 카본블랙을 미니유화중합법을 이용하여 고분자로 캡슐화를 진행하였다. 이러한 과정을 통하여 평균직경 100~500 nm 크기의 하이브리드 미립자를 제조하였다. 중합과정에 있어서 카본블랙의 표면 개질의 영향, 모노머의 종류, 개시제 및 유화제의 캡슐화 반응에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다.

실란 커플링제가 카본블랙과 점토로 보강된 천연 고무 가황물의 회복 특성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Silane Coupling Agent on Retraction Behaviors of NR Vulcanizates Reinforced with Carbon Black and Clay)

  • 실란 커플링제가 카본블랙과 점토로 보강된 천연 고무 가황물의 회복 특성에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. Bis-(3-(triethoxysilyl)-propyl)-tetrasulfide (TESPT)를 실란 커플링제로 사용하였다. 실란 커플링제가 함유된 가황물은 실란 커플링제가 함유되지 않은 가황물에 비해 전반적으로 빠른 회복 거동을 보였다. 그러나, 점토 함량이 높은 가황물의 경우 $-20^{\circ}C$보다 낮은 온도에서는 실란 커플링제가 함유된 가황물이 실란 커플링제가 함유되지 않은 가황물에 비해 느리게 회복되었다. 실란 커플링제가 함유된 가황물과 실란 커플링제가 함유되지 않은 가황물의 회복량 차이는 점토 함량이 증가할수록 감소하였다. 실험 결과는 가교 밀도, 모둘러스, 그리고 결합 고무량으로 설명하였다.

  • Double walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) are considered an ideal model for studying the coupling interactions between different concentric shells in multi-walled CNTs. Due to their intrinsic coaxial structures they are mechanically, thermally, and structurally more stable than single walled CNTs. Geometrically, owing to the buffer-like function of the outer tubes in DWCNTs, the inner tubes exhibit exciting transport and optical properties that lend them promise in the fabrication of field-effect transistors, stable field emitters, and lithium ion batteries. In addition, by utilizing the outer tube chemistry, DWCNTs can be useful for anchoring semiconducting quantum dots and also as effective multifunctional fillers in producing tough, conductive transparent polymer films. The inner tubes meanwhile preserve their excitonic transitions. This article reviews the synthesis of DWCNTs, their electronic structure, transport, and mechanical properties, and their potential uses.

탄소나노튜브 액츄에이터의 이론적 모델링 (Analytical Modeling of Carbon Nanotube Actuators)

  • Carbon nanotubes have outstanding properties which make them useful for a number of high-technology applications. Especially, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT), working under physical conditions (in aqueous solution) and converting electrical energy into mechanical energy directly, can be a good substitute for artificial muscle. The carbon nanotube structure simulated in this paper is an isotropic cantilever type with an adhesive tape which is sandwiched between two SWNTs. For predicting the geometrical and physical parameters such as deflection, slope, bending moment and induced force with various applied voltages, the analytical model for a 3 layer bimorph nanotube actuator is developed by applying Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The governing equation and boundary conditions are derived from energy Principles. Also, the brief history of carbon nonotube is overviewed and its properties are compared with other functional materials. Moreover, an electro-mechanical coupling coefficient of the carbon nanotube actuator is discussed to identify the electro-mechanical energy efficiency.

대기경계층에서 미세 섬유 확산 모델링 (Dispersion Modeling of Fine Carbon Fibers in Atmospheric Boundary Layer)

  • A fine carbon fibers dispersion model is implemented to calculate the scattering range and ground level concentration of carbon fibers emitted at certain altitudes of atmospheric boundary layer. This carbon fibers dispersion model was composed by coupling a commonly used atmospheric dispersion model and an atmospheric boundary layer model. The atmospheric boundary layer model, applying the Monin-Obukov Similarity Rule obtained from measurement input data at ground level, was used to create the atmospheric boundary layer structure. In the atmospheric dispersion model, the Lagrangian Particle Model and the Markov Process were applied to calculate the trajectory of scattered carbon fibers relative to gravity and aerodynamic force, as well as carbon fibers specification.

고무물성 향상을 위한 실리카 및 실란 커플링제의 최적배합에 관한 연구 (The Study of Optimized Compounds Containing Silica and Coupling Agent to Improve the Physical Properties of Rubber Compounds)

  • The physical properties of rubber compounds containing silica and siliane coupling agent in order to replace the carbon black and prepare for environmental regulation showed improved dynamic properties(rebound, heat build-up, $60^{\circ}C\;tan\;{\delta}$), but the abrasion resistance did not improve compared with the compounds containing carbon black. Also, curing retardation because of coherent structure of silica improved by the addition of DEG, but the mixing step change of activators did not so much improve the static and dynamic properties of the compounds containing high synthetic rubber, the status of mixing and dispersion showed that the compounds containing carbon black was much better than the compounds containing silica by TEM investigation.

콘크리트 내에서의 Cr강방식철근과 보통강재와의 갈바닉 부식에 관한 연구 (Galvanic Coupling between Carbon Steel and Cr-bearing Rebar in Concrete)

  • The galvanic currents between carbon steel and Cr-bearing rebars have been studied in concrete subjected to carbonation and chloride attack. The results revealed that in case of SD345 contacted with Cr-bearing rebar in concrete under chloride attack environment and carbonation environment, the corrosion acceleration by galvanic corrosion is not generated. Therefore, Cr-bearing rebar can be used together with the carbon steel in the new establishment structure.
