  • The object of this study is to design the Radar Absorbing Structures (RAS) having sandwich structures in the X-band $(8.2\~12.4GHz)$ frequencies. Glass fabric/epoxy composites containing conductive carbon blacks and carbon fabric/epoxy composites were used for the face sheets. Polyurethane (PU) foams containing multi­walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) were used for the core. Their permittivities in the X-band were measured using the transmission line technique. The reflection loss characteristics for multi-layered sandwich structures were calculated using the theory of transmission and reflection in a multi-layered medium. Three kinds of specimens were fabricated and their reflection losses in the X-band were measured using the free space technique. Experimental results were in good agreements with simulated ones in 10dB absorbing bandwidth.

Synthesis of SnO2 nanowires on one-dimensional carbonization cotton fabric

  • Tin-oxide ($SnO_2$) nanowires have been synthesized on one-dimensional (1D) carbonization cotton fabric using chemical vapour deposition method. One-dimensional (1D) carbonization cotton fabric has been synthesized from cotton fabric using annealing process in nitrogen gas at $1000^{\circ}C$. The $SnO_2$ nanowires are single-crystalline rutile structures with 20 nm in diameter and 10 ${\mu}m$ in length. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were utilized to characterize the as-synthesized products.

  • In this paper, various tow parameters such as equivalent tow thickness, amplitude of longitudinal tow and tow intervals were investigated and compared with each other by using microscopic observation to find out the exact deformation patterns between both directions of the fabric structure (Longitudinal and Transverse Directions). Specimens for the observation were taken from draped helmet which is made of fabric composite (Five Harness Satin Weave). From the observation results, it was found that there are different deformation pattern between tow directions and effect of geometric condition on the deformation of the fabric materials during draping process was verified.

  • The Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of woven fabric carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composites for a train carbody was measured and FEM analysis was conducted. The woven fabric epoxy composite manufactured by hand lay-up, has high stiffness and strength, good resistance for impact, fatigue, corrosion and in-plane failure. The DCB(Double Cantilever Beam) specimen made of woven fabric epoxy composite had the size of 180mm $\times$ 25mm $\times$ 5mm and the insert of 65mm. The Mode I interlaminar toughness of specimen was measured according to ASTM 5528-01. The crack propagation behavior of the DCB specimen was simulated using FEA with cohesive elements that model the adhesive layer between woven fabric plies.

철도차량용 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로수명 향상 방안 연구 (A Study on Improving the Fatigue Life for a Woven Glass Fabric/Epoxy Laminate Composite Applied to Railway Vehicles)

  • 본 연구는 철도차량에 적용되는 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로특성 및 피로수명에 대해 평가하였다. 이때, 피로시험은 0.1의 응력비(R)와 5Hz의 주파수에서 인장-인장 하중 조건이 고려되었으며, 시험편은 카본/에폭시 플라이가 보강된 시험편과 보강되지 않은 시험편 두 가지 타입을 고려하였다. 또한, 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로수명을 평가하기 위해 철도차량 차체와 언더프레임에 주로 사용되는 알루미늄 6005와 비교하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 3장의 카본/에폭시 플라이가 보강된 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재 시험편이 보강되지 않은 기본 시험편보다 피로강도 및 피로수명이 크게 향상됨을 확인하였다.

  • Electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding effectiveness(SE) was investigated in of woven fabric made of epoxy/copper-nickel fabrics and nickel coated carbon fiber reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) composites. The coaxial transmission line method was used to measure the EMI shielding effectiveness of the composites. We designed and constructed a measuring system, consisting of a network analyzer and a device that plays the serves as a sample holder and at the same time as a transmission medium of the incident electromagnetic wave. The measurement of SE were carried out frequency range from 100MHz to 2GHz. It is observed that the SE of the composits is the frequency dependent increase with the increase in nickel coated carbon fibre volume fraction. The nickel coating with 20wt% ABS composite was shown to exhibit up to 60dB of SE. The result that nickel coated carbon fibre ABS composite can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.

하이브리드 능직 탄소-아라미드 섬유 복합재의 모드 I 파괴인성에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Investigations of Mode I Fracture Toughness of a Hybrid Twill Woven Carbon and Aramid Fabric Composite)

  • Carbon fiber has excellent specific strength, corrosion resistance and heat resistance. And p-Aramid fiber has high toughness and heat resistance and high elasticity, and is used in various fields such as industrial protective materials, bulletproof helmets and vests, as well as industrial fields. However, carbon fiber is relatively expensive, and is susceptible to brittle fracture behavior due to its low fracture strain. On the other hand, the aramid fiber tends to decrease in elastic modulus and strength when applied to the epoxy matrix, but it is inexpensive and has higher elongation and fracture toughness than carbon fiber. Thus the twill hybrid carbonaramid fiber reinforced composite laminate composite was investigated for a delamination fracture toughness under Mode I loading by 2 kinds of MBT and MCC deduction. The specimen was fabricated with 20 hybrid fabric plies. The initial crack was made by inserting the teflon tape in the center plane with a0/W=0.5 length. The results show that SERR(Strain Energy Release Rate) as the critical and stable delamination fracture toughness were 0.09 kJ/㎡, 0.386 kJ/㎡ by MBT deduction, and 0.192 kJ/㎡, 0.67 kJ/㎡ by MCC deduction, respectively.

동작 모니터링 스마트 의류를 위한 직물 센서의 성능 평가: 더미 실험을 중심으로 (Performance Evaluation of Fabric Sensors for Movement-monitoring Smart Clothing: Based on the Experiment on a Dummy)

  • 본 연구에서는 전도성 직물을 기반으로 동작 센서로 구현하여 팔의 굽힘, 폄 동작에 따른 센서의 전기저항의 변화를 측정, 분석함으로써 관절 동작을 효과적으로 측정 할 수 있는 직물 센서의 요건을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 두 가지 편직물인 'L'직물과 'W'직물 양면에 Single Wall Carbon Nano-Tube(SWCNT) 코팅을 한 후 이를 다양한 형태로 후가공하여 직물 센서를 개발하고 암 밴드에 부착하였다. 직물 센서는 코팅용 바탕 직물의 종류(2가지), 센서의 부착 방법(2가지), 센서의 layer 수(2가지), 센서의 길이(3가지), 센서의 너비(2가지)의 총 48개로 구성되었다. Con-Trex MJ에 48개의 암 밴드를 입힌 인체 모형 팔을 대상으로 직물 동작 센서의 성능을 평가하였다. 인체 모형 팔에 입혀진 총 48개의 암 밴드 각각에 대해서 frequency: 0.5Hz, ROM: $20^{\circ}{\sim}120^{\circ}$ 에서 굽힘과 폄 동작을 반복하도록 조정하였고, 48개 각 사례 당 세 세트(set)씩 반복 측정한 전압값을 기록하였다. 전압값을 peak-to-peak voltage(Vp-p)의 base line의 균일성, 동일 세트 내 Vp-p의 균일성, 세 세트 간의 Vp-p의 균일성을 기준으로 평가하고 분석한 결과, SWCNT 코팅된 'L' 직물을 두 겹으로 구성하여 열고정 방식으로 부착한 $50{\times}5mm$, $50{\times}10mm$, $100{\times}10mm$ 크기의 직물 센서와, SWCNT 코팅된 'W' 직물을 두 겹으로 구성하고 열고정 방식으로 부착한 $50{\times}10mm$ 크기의 직물 센서가 전체 변화율 5%이내의 가장 균일하고 안정적인 신호값을 나타내었다. 이상의 연구 결과를 통해 SWCNT 코팅 소재를 다양한 형태로 가공해 직물 센서로 구현했을 때 인체의 사지 동작을 측정할 수 있는 센서로서 적합함을 확인하였고, 최적의 센서 형태를 규명하였다.

카본 패브릭을 이용한 프리폼 성형에 대한 수치모사 (Numerical Simulation of Preform Molding Using Carbon Fabric)

  • 프리폼 성형은 섬유 직조물을 이용한 RTM 성형에 있어서 매우 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 탄소 섬유 직조물의 프리폼의 변형은 소재의 강도에 영향을 미치며, 그 중 전단 잠김 각도를 넘어서는 힘이 작용하게 되면 제품에 주름이 발생되어 RTM공정 시 불량발생의 원인이 된다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 탄소섬유직조물의 전단변형 허용치를 정량화하고 실제 직조물의 성형과 수치모사를 이용하여 성형 특성을 검증하고자 한다. 그 결과 섬유 방향의 설정에 따른 주름의 특성을 확인하고 그 결과를 평가하였다. 앞에 언급한 물성 측정 결과들을 이용하여 수치해석을 수행하였고, 이 결과를 실험 결과와 비교 분석하였다.

전기임피던스 단층촬영법을 이용한 외란위치 계측오차 (Measurement errors of the EIT systems using a phantom and conductive yarns)

  • Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) has been applied to measure the location of external disturbance using a phantom and conductive yarns. According to the test results, the addition of carbon nanotube particles into the phantom does not show remarkable improvement in location errors. On the other hand combined fabric, conductive yarns with fabric, and non-woven fabric, were added to evaluate its performance as a fabric sensor. The combined fabric resulted in a decrease of 21.5% in the circumferential location error and a decrease of 50% in the radial location error, compared to those of the yarns. Additionally, it was revealed that the measurement error is almost linearly proportional to the conductivity of the phantom liquid and resistance of the conductive yarns. The combined fabric can be a promising material for fabric sensors in sports utilities and medical devices.
