  • Greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), methane (CH$_4$), nitrous oxide ($N_2$O), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF$_{6}$), together with water vapour ($H_2O$) and ozone play an important role in determining the earth's climate. The primary cause of the enhancement of GHGs is the global use of fossil fuels to generate heat, power, and electricity for a growing world population, as well as the changes in the land use, especially for agriculture. In addition, biomass buring and biofuel emissions play major roles in the GHG emissions in the Asian region because they produce large amounts of carbon monoxide (CO), nonmethane volatile organic compounds(NMVOC), black carbon(BC) and other gases. Study on the introduction and assessment of the Life Cycle Carbon Emissions in Office Buildings

  • Global warming has become a major issue all over the world. Noting the carbon dioxide emissions as a main contributor to global warming, we studied on the methods to reduce the life cycle building carbon emissions. Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) has been implemented since 2002 in Korea, but it doesn't estimate the quantities of the $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore, we studied the ways to implement the $CO_2$ emissions in quantity to GBCC. We select a government building which was rated excellent by the GBCC. This office building was regarded to excellent building by GBCC but not good for energy consumption. It was found energy glutton buildings for research by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in 2010. This part of GBCC is need to be improved.. Also LCA (Life Cycle assessment) was carried out to estimate on carbon footprint on this office building. So we need to implementing quantitative evaluation on the amount of carbon emissions by GBCC. And it is possible to implementing quantitative evaluation on the amount of carbon emissions. Through this study, we expect that quantitative assessment of life cycle carbon emissions of buildings by the GBCC. Also expect to reduce the carbon emissions of the building by improving the GBCC.

석탄가스화 연료의 정적 예혼합 연소특성 (Premixed Combustion Characteristics of Coal Gasification Fuel in Constant Volume Combustion Chamber)

  • The coal gasification fuel is important to replace petroleum fuel. Also they have many benefits for reducing the air pollution. Measurements on the combustion characteristics of synthetic gas from coal gasification have been conducted as compared with LPG in constant volume combustion chamber. The fuel is low caloric synthetic gas containing carbon monoxide 30%, hydrogen 20%, carbon dioxide 5%, and nitrogen 45%. To elucidate the combustion characteristics of the coal gasification fuel, the combustion pressures, combustion durations, and pollutants(NOx, $CO_2$, CO) are measured with equivalence ratios($\phi$), and initial pressures of fuel-air mixture in constant volume chamber. In the case of the coal gasification fuel, maximum combustion pressure and NOx concentration are lower rather than LPG fuel. However CO and $CO_2$ emission concentration are similar to that of LPG fuel.

The Influence of Pressure, Temperature, and Addition of CO2 on the Explosion Risk of Propylene used in Industrial Processes

  • In process installations, chemicals operate at high temperature and high pressure. Propylene is used as a basic raw material for manufacturing synthetic materials in the petrochemical industry; However, it is a flammable substance and explosive in the gaseous state. Thus, caution is needed when handling propylene. To prevent explosions, an inert gas, carbon dioxide, was used and the changes in the extent of explosion due to changes in pressure and oxygen concentration at 25 ℃, 100 ℃, and 200 ℃ were measured. At constant temperature, the increase in explosive pressure and the rates of the explosive pressure were observed to rise as the pressure was augmented. Moreover, as the oxygen concentration decreased, the maximum explosive pressure decreased. At 25 ℃ and oxygen concentration of 21%, as the pressure increased from 1.0 barg to 2.5 bar, the gas deflagration index (Kg) increased significantly from 4.71 barg·m/s to 18.83 barg·m/s.

  • Concrete has been considered as a semi-permanent structural material, because its excellent durability. But concrete durability is affected by carbon dioxide, chloride, water, etc. This study is about surface protection materials-one materials is silane type and the other silicate type for the promoting of concrete durability. As a results, Silane type could protect affection of chloride(Cl-), water(H2O), carbon dioxide(CO2). Also silicate type could improve the abrasion of concrete.

실리카겔 공극에서의 이산화탄소 및 메탄 하이드레이트 상평형 측정 및 열역학적 예측 (Phase Equilibrium of the Carbon Dioxide and Methane Hydrate in Silica Gel Pores and Thermodynamic Prediction)

  • Hydrate phase equilibrium for the binary $CO_{2}$+water and $CH_{4}$+water mixtures in silica gel pore of nominal 6, 30, and 100 nm were measured and compared with the cacluated results based on van der Waals and Platteeuw model. At a specific temperature three-phase hydrate-water-vapor (HLV) equilibrium curves for pore hydrates were shifted to the higher-pressure condition depending on pore sizes when compared with those of bulk hydrates. Notably, hydrate phase equilibria for the case of 100 nominal nm pore size were nearly identical with those of bulk hydrates. The activities of water in porous silica gels were modified to account for capillary effect, and the calculation results were generally in good agreement with the experimental data.

밀집형 자연냉매 증발기의 열성능에 미치는 불균일 공기유동분포의 영향 (Effects of Air Flow Nonuniformity on the Thermal Performance of a Compact Evaporator for Natural Working Fluids)

  • The application of carbon dioxide as an attractive natural working fluid in air cooling and heating system is increasingly important in view of the CFC substitution problem. The thermal performance of compact evaporator was analyzed using section-by-section method. The effects of the two-dimensional nonuniformity of air flow through the evaporator is presented. The detrimental effect of the aid flaw nonuniformity on the thermal performance of the evaporator is found to be significant for many typical applications. It is shown that total heat transfer rate of evaporator using $CO_2$ is higher than that using R134a at the simulation conditions.

다양한 아미노실란을 이용한 이산화탄소 흡착제 합성 및 흡착 특성 (Synthesis of CO2 Adsorbent with Various Aminosilanes and its CO2 Adsorption Behavior)

  • 넓은 비표면적과 큰 기공 부피를 갖는 실리카에 다양한 아미노실란 화합물을 in-situ 중합법을 통해 기능화 후 이산화탄소 흡착 특성을 확인하였다. 이산화탄소 흡착 기능기로 아민기가 포함된 아미노실란 화합물이 사용되었다. 흡착제의 흡착 특성 분석을 위해 질소 흡 탈착 실험과 원소분석, in situ FT-IR, TGA를 이용하였다. 흡착제 합성 전후를 비교하였을 때 폴리아미노실란이 기능화되면 표면적과 기공부피 및 크기가 감소하였으며 실리카 기공 부피의 70%에 해당하는 폴리아미노실란 화합물을 기능화 시켰을 경우 기공 부피의 100% 기능화 보다 이산화탄소 흡착능이 향상되었다. 흡착 온도를 비교하며 $30^{\circ}C$보다 $75^{\circ}C$에서 폴리아미노실란 화합물의 열팽창과 자유부피 증가로 흡착능이 증가하였고, 2NS/NPS-2의 경우 기공 부피 70% 기능화와 흡착 온도 $75^{\circ}C$에서 9.2 wt%의 높은 $CO_2$ 흡착능을 보였다.

  • The experiment established optimal conditions for over-carbonization. With the use of the electron microscopy and X-ray phase analysis the regularities of carbon deposit formation in process of methane and propane pyrolysis on the zeolites, Kazakhstan natural clays, chrome and bauxite sludge containing metal oxides of iron subgroup, have been studied. In process of over-carbonization the trivalent iron was reduced to metal form. In addition, the carbon tubes of divers morphology had been impregnated with ultra-dispersed metal particles. The kinetic parameters of carbon formation in process of methane decomposition on the zeolite - CoO mixture surface were investigated by method of thermo-gravimetric analysis. The morphology and structure of formed carbon fibrils, with the metal particles fixed at their ends, have been investigated, the formation of branched carbon fibrils pattern, so called octopus, being found. Also, the walnut shells and grape kernel carbonization, their immobilization by the cells of selective absorption of heavy metal and sulfur dioxide ions have been studied. The example of metal-carbon composites used as adsorbents for wastewater purification, C$_3$- C$_4$ hydrocarbon cracking catalysts and refractory materials with improved properties have been considered.

디메틸카보네이트와 이산화탄소 혼합물의 기포점 측정 (Measurement of Bubble Points of Dimethyl Carbonate and Carbon Dioxide Mixtures)

  • 본 연구에서는 가변부피 투시창이 설치되어 있는 고압 상평형 측정 장치를 사용하여 이산화탄소의 임계온도 이상과 디메틸카보네이트의 임계온도 이하의 온도 범위에서 혼합물의 조성을 변화시키면서 디메틸카보네이트와 이산화탄소 혼합물의 기포점을 압력을 측정하였다. 실험적으로 측정된 기포점 압력 데이터를 Peng-Robinson 상태방정식에 상관시킴으로써 기포점 조성과 평형을 이루는 이슬점 조성을 추정하였다. 실험적으로 측정된 기포점 압력은 Peng-Robinson 상태방정식으로 계산한 결과와 매우 잘 일치하였다. 가변부피 투시창이 설치되어 있는 고압 상평형 실험장치는 고압의 압축유체 혼합물의 기포점을 매우 쉽고 빠르게 측정할 수 있는 방법이라고 할 수 있다.
