The oil in mackerel muscle was extracted using an environment friendly solvent, supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-$CO_2$) at a semibatch flow extraction process and an n-hexane. The SC-$CO_2$ was maintained at a temperature of $45^{\circ}C$ under pressures ranging from 15 to 25 MPa. The flow rate of $CO_2$ (27 g/min) was constant during the entire 2 h extraction period. The fatty acid composition of the oil was analyzed using gas chromatography (GC). Significant concentrations of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) acid and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) acid were present in the SC-$CO_2$ extracted oil. The oil extracted using SC-$CO_2$ exhibited increased stability compared with n-haxane extracted oil. Particles of mackerel oil together with the biodegradable polymer, polyethylene glycol (PEG) were formed using a gas saturated solution process (PGSS) with SC-$CO_2$ in a thermostatted stirred vessel. Different temperatures ($45-55^{\circ}C$), pressures (15-25 MPa) and a nozzle size $400{\mu}m$ were used for PGSS with a 1 h reaction time. The stability of mackerel oil in the particles did not changed significantly.

The offshore installations and ships are the structures most likely to be exposed to hazards such as hydrocarbon fire and/or explosion. Developing proactive measures to prevent the escalation of such events thus requires detailed knowledge of the related phenomena and their consequences. $CO_2$ extinguishing systems are extensively used for fire accidents of on-and offshore installations because of outstanding performance and low cost. There is, however, the risk of carbon dioxide system which enumerates many of the fatalities by suffocation associated with industrial fire protection requirements. Therefore, the aim of this study is to perform the prediction of fire suppression characteristics of the carbon dioxide system in realistic enclosed compartment area of ships and propose $CO_2$ extinguish fire fighting system for preventing suffocation accidents during fire fighting. According to CFD calculations, it can be observed and assessed that various fire profiles with $CO_2$ and $O_2$ mole fraction in the target enclosed compartment area are applicable within the proposed system. Additionally, the design of fire safety system of ships and offshore installations can utilize ventilation system and/or layout arrangement through the proposed system.

This study investigated future changes in the Arctic permafrost features and related biogeochemical alterations under global warming. The Community Land Model (CLM) with biogeochemistry (BGC) was run for the period 2005 to 2099 with projected future climate based on the Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) A2 scenario. Under global warming, over the Arctic land except for the permafrost region, the rise in soil temperature led to an increase in soil liquid and decrease in soil ice. Also, the Arctic ground obtained carbon dioxide from the atmosphere due to the increase in photosynthesis of vegetation. On the other hand, over the permafrost region, the microbial respiration was increased due to thawing permafrost, resulting in increased carbon dioxide emissions. Methane emissions associated with total water storage have increased over most of Arctic land, especially in the permafrost region. Methane releases were predicted to be greatly increased especially near the rivers and lakes associated with an increased chance of flooding. In conclusion, at the end of $21^{st}$ century, except for permafrost region, the Arctic ground is projected to be the sink of carbon dioxide, and only permafrost region the source of carbon dioxide. This study suggests that thawing permafrost can further to accelerate global warming significantly.
Solubility data of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in 1-butyl-3-methylpiperidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ($[bmpip][Tf_2N]$) ionic liquid are presented at pressures up to about 30 MPa and at temperatures between 303 K and 343 K. As far as we know, the data on the $CO_2$ solubility in the $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ ionic liquid have never been reported in the literature by other investigators. The solubilities of $CO_2$ were determined by measuring the bubble point or cloud point pressures of the $CO_2+[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ mixtures with various compositions using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. To observe the effect of the cation composing the ionic liquid on the $CO_2$ solubility, the $CO_2$ solubilities in $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ used in this study were compared with those in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide ($[bmim]Tf_2N]$). As the equilibrium pressure increased, the $CO_2$ solubility in $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ increased sharply. On the other hand, the $CO_2$ solubility decreased with increasing temperature. The mole fraction-based $CO_2$ solubilities were almost the same for both $[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ and $[bmim][Tf_2N]$, regardless of temperature and pressure. The phase equilibrium data for the $CO_2+[bmpip][Tf_2N]$ systems have been correlated using the Peng-Robinson equation of state.

Generally, Calculation of carbon dioxide absorption in the forest area is calculated using the information of the forest, such as tree height and DBH(Diameter of Breast Height). Tree height and DBH of these are obtained using the remote sensing data such as imagery and information of local forest survey. However, Mixed forest with a high proportion of field survey to lower the accuracy of forest information. In this study, vertical structure of the tree were identified by applying region growing method based on the slope using LiDAR data and height and number of the tree were identified by applying extracting top of the tree algorithm. Through the vertex tree extraction algorithm to identify height of tree and the number of individuals, substitute this for the DBH relation formula which is drawn from data through field surveys. In this, a quantitative calculation of carbon dioxide absorption were able to calculate the basic data. Also, carbon dioxide absorption of three type trees were calculated and average per unit area of carbon dioxide absorption were able to estimate.

Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) is one of the key players in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction portfolio for mitigating climate change. CCS makes it possible not only to reduce a huge amount of carbon dioxide directly from coal power plant but also to maintain the carbon concentrated-energy infrastructure. The objective of the present paper is to review and introduce R&D progress and large scale demonstration plan focused on marine geological storage in Republic of Korea.

This study was conducted to investigate quality changes of apple slab after pretreating with supercritical $CO_2$. L, a, b and color difference values were little changed at increasing temperature and pressure. Polyphenol oxidase was inhibited according to increment of supercritical $CO_2$ temperature and pressure. Springiness and hardness were increased at increasing pressure and temperature condition of pretreatment but hardness showed lower value than untreatment. The texture like sponge of dried apple slab was probably due to channels which were made during penetration and release of carbon dioxide.
In this study, poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) microparticles containing gemcitabine hydrochloride were prepared by a supercritical fluid process, called aerosol solvent extraction system (ASES), utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide as antisolvent. The influence of process parameters such as temperature, pressure, $CO_2$ and solution flow rate, solution concentration, and feed ratio of drug to polymer on the morphology and characteristics of the microparticles was studied in detail. The gemcitabine-loaded microparticles exhibited a spherical shape with a smooth surface. The entrapment efficiency of gemcitabine increased with increasing temperature, solution concentration and $CO_2$ flow rate and with decreasing drug/polymer feed ratio. The maximum drug loading obtained from the ASES process was found to be about 11%. The ASES-processed PLLA microparticles containing gemcitabine showed a relatively high initial burst due to the presence of surface pores on the microparticles and the poor affinity between drug and polymer.

Considerable attention has been given to developing methodologies to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide from industry to meet strengthened environmental regulations. In this article, recent research trends on dry reforming of methane as an alternative method to reduce $CO_2$ emission from large scale industrial processes are addressed. To efficiently provide the energy needed in this strong endothermic reaction without additional $CO_2$ emission, it seems to be desirable to adopt autothermal reaction mode. The produced synthesis gas could be used as a reducing gas, or a feedstock for synthesis of chemicals and fuels.
The solubility of triclosan, an anti-acne agent was measured in supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$) with a variable volume view cell at 313.15, 323.15, and 333.15 K and at pressures between 10 and 40 MPa. We successfully correlated triclosan solubility in $scCO_2$ using the quasi-chemical nonrandom lattice fluid (QLF) equation of state. Triclosan was micronized using the rapid expansion of supercritical solutions (RESS) process. The effects of temperature and pressure on particle size were investigated using phase behavior data and correlated results from the QLF model.
