  • We investigated the fecundity, egg size, reproductive output, and breeding frequency and season of Neocaridina denticulata denticulata and Latreutes planirostris which inhabit extremely different habitats. The marine shrimp Latreutes planirostris produced more eggs had at a given carapace length than the freshwater shrimp N. d. denticulata. However, N. d. denticulata had a larger egg volume and greater reproductive output than L. planirostris. The monthly gonadosomatic index (GSI) of the freshwater shrimp began to increase in April and reached a maximum in May, suggesting a single breeding period. In contrast, the GSI of the marine shrimp exhibited two breeding peaks: May-June and September. In both shrimps, the regressions between carapace length and ovarian weight were significant at the non-eyed and eyed embryo stages. For both species, an analysis of covariance revealed significant difference between the two regressions in elevation, but not in slope. These results indicate the potential for multiple ovulations within the reproductive season.

  • The first zoeae of Hyastenus elongatus (Ortmann, 1893) were obtained in thelaboratory from hatching. They are described, illustrated in detail and compared with the previously described zoeae of the subfamily pisinae. The zoeae of H. elongatus are similar to, but may be distinguished from those of Hyastenus diacnathus (De Haan, 1839), by the number of setae on the postero-lateral carapace margin and mouthpart appendages, and the length of a dorsal carapace spine. In the mouthpart appendages, the difference in the number of setae on an endopod of the maillule between H. eleongatus and H. diacanthus is doubtful, and it should be necessary ot make a detailed re-description of H. diacanthus.

  • In this study, a total of 21 parts of the head, carapace, and plastron of 21 tortoises were examined to investigate the characteristics of male and female sexual dimorphism of the Reeve's turtle (Mauremys reevesii), a natural monument in Korea. The ratio values of a total of 19 areas were derived from Head Length (HL) and Carapace Length (CL). As a result of comparing the ratio values, it was found that male tortoises had larger head length, head width, and head height than females compared to the size of the carapace. Since females grow eggs inside the body through internal fertilization after mating, female carapaces are judged to be larger than males overall. As a result of statistical analysis of the ratio values of the measured values, Plastron Length (PL), Bridge Length (BL), Gular Length (GL), Interhumeral Length (IH), Interanal Length (IAN), Femoral-Anal seam (FA) and Head Height (HH) showed statistically significant differences. Statistically significant in the part of the plastron, it is judged that the tortoise acts directly on each deck of the plastron as it grows. In addition, the head size of male tortoises was smaller than that of females, but it was found to be larger in proportion. It is considered that the tortoise has a rather large head compared to the body due to the male's habit of shaking his head and courtship behavior before mating. This study, we were able to identify the characteristics of sexual dimorphism in Reeve's turtle. However, since most of them were rescued, it was not possible to accurately determine habitat and age. In the future, if additional studies are conducted on individuals with clear habitats and ages, it is expected that the characteristics of the physical differences that develop as they grow can be identified.

  • Frequency distribution of carapace width, relative growth, sex ratio and fecundity of blue crab Portunus trituberculatus in Younggwang adjacent water were investigated. A total number of individuals collected for this study were 658(Males : 305 and females : 353). Water temperature and salinity of the study areas varied from 5.9 to $27.3^{\circ}C$ and 28.1 to 31.6 psu, respectively. The carapace length-width and carapace width-weight relationship was calculated and the equations obtained are; For males; CL = 1.3652CW + 22.495($R^2$=0.741), $TW=0.0068CW^{2.4001}$($R^2$=0.749), For females; CL = 1.3073 CW + 25.684($R^2$=0.791), $TW=0.0061CW^{2.4231}$($R^2$=0.801). The sex ratios(Males : females) for blue crab were 0.86 : 1. The value of correlations coefficient between total weight and fecundity of the blue crabs was higher that of between carapace width and fecundity.

  • Carapace width (CW) of main size class of the snow crab was 70~90 mm for females and 80~100 mm for males. The CW holds a stronger relation with body weight than that of carapace length (CL). The number of eggs attached to the pleopods was in the range of 35,000 and 114,000 eggs in crabs with 65 and 88 mm CW, respectively). The logistic maturity curve on morphometric measurements and gonad examination, defined by the presence of egg brooding in wide abdomen of the female and spermatophores inside the vasa deferentia of the male indicated that 50 % of crabs attained gonadal maturity at 54.2 mm and 58.8 mm CW for females and males, respectively. In the relationship between CW and body weight, a sharp break at 53~55 mm CW indicates that morphological changes associated with maturity have occurred.

  • An ecological investigation was conducted in winter from November 2007 to February 2008, around Wangdol Reef in the East Sea to analyze the population structure and fecundity of Chinoecetes opilio. The sex ratio was 30.11:69.89% (female:male) in November, 62.03:37.97% in December, 37.59:62.41% in January and 14.69:85.31% in February. Regression equations indicated highly positive relationships between size and weight parameters (carapace length, width, total weight). During the sampling period ovigerous females were continuously collected. The percentage of ovigerous females was 96% in November, 90.57% in December 89.80% in January, and 88.46% in February. The average number of embryos was 64,800. The regression equation between carapace width and the number of embryos was y = 2.6805x - 0.9182 ($R^2$ = 0.7166). Embryo volume increased as embryo development proceeded. The mean size of an embryo was 0.72 mm. Embryo volume ranged from 0.42 to $0.84\;m^3$ during embryo developmental stages 1 to 3.

  • The purpose of the current study was to optimize shrimp-pot design to allow greater control over the size of captured individuals for the purposes of shrimp resource management. Tank experiments were conducted to determine the optimal slope length and slope angle by analyzing the sizes of shrimp that entered 25 model pots with combinations of five different slope lengths and five different angles. Shrimp size was measured using carapace length. The results showed that as the slope angle of the pot increased, the size of individuals that entered the pot increased. Furthermore, as the slope length increased, each of the five different slope angles of the pot increased, and the size of individuals entering also increased. The data indicated that the optimum pot design for reducing the capture of immature individuals had a $75^{\circ}$ slope angle and a 35.4 cm slope length.

  • In the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii, the paired testes were united by the testes bridge in a H-shape. During mating male discharged two hemispermtophores from right and left genital pore and they were joined and formed a compound spermatophore in peach shape. Hemispermatophore was considered to be produced at proximal and middle vas deferens region. The compound spermatophore consisted of an eosinophilic inner matrix, a basophilic outer matrix and paired sperm mass burried in the basophilic matrix. The size of compound spermatophore was 6.4∼ 9.3 mm in length and 2.4∼5.1 mm in width regardless of carapace length. After the spermatophore was deposited on female's ventral sternum behind of 5th pereiopod, it was moved to the ventral surface of 3rd and 4th pereiopods by means of the beating of male's 1st and 2nd pleopods.
