A hot water layer (HWL hereinafter) was installed at the depth of 1.2 m from the pool surface to reduce the radiation level at the pool top. After the HWL system was improved by the replacement of the filter with the Ion Exchanger to capture the Na-24, to purify the pool water of HWL and finally to reduce the radiation at the pool top. It was confirmed by the performance test of the pump and the measurement of the pressure difference through the Ion Exchanger and the strainer, that the flow characteristics of HWL system was not adversely affected after the system modification. Also the flow analysis using the pressure loss coefficients of the Ion Exchanger and strainer, calculated by the Darcy formula, could predict the flow variations by pressure changes within $10\%$ error in comparison with the field test results. It was also confirmed that HWL was maintained with the depth of 1.2 m from the pool surface because each electric water heater was electrically and thermodynamically maintained at 30 kW and the temperature of HWL was maintained with $5^{\circ}C$ higher temperature than that of pool water. Finally, it was confirmed that the pool top radiation was saturated and stabilized below 10000 nG/hr within 24 hours as the ion exchanger captured the main nucleus, Na-24 and purified the pool water of HWL.

The Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP(DASH) is envisioned to evolve to meet an increasing demand on providing seamless video streaming services in the near future. The DASH performance heavily depends on the client's adaptive quality selection algorithm that is not included in the standard. The existing conventional algorithms are basically based on a procedural algorithm that is not easy to capture and reflect all variations of dynamic network and traffic conditions in a variety of network environments. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel quality selection mechanism based on the Deep Q-Network(DQN) model, the DQN-based DASH Adaptive Bitrate(ABR) mechanism. The proposed mechanism adopts a new reward calculation method based on five major performance metrics to reflect the current conditions of networks and devices in real time. In addition, the size of the consecutive video segment to be downloaded is also considered as a major learning metric to reflect a variety of video encodings. Experimental results show that the proposed mechanism quickly selects a suitable video quality even in high error rate environments, significantly reducing frequency of quality changes compared to the existing algorithm and simultaneously improving average video quality during video playback.
A CFD simulation of airflow and temperature field in a heated room has been described in this paper. The thermal wall jet created by a radiator greatly influences the airflow pattern, temperature distribution. The area close La a heat source has a higher risk of air-borne contamination and imposes a harmful effect on occupants in that area. The predicted flow field, temperature results show good agreement with the measured data. As the results were compared with experimental data, the applicability of CFD was satisfactorily verified. Also, the CFD simulation can capture the natural convective flow features. If a CFD simulation is applied ventilation design with a heat source, An effective design will be attained. Further study is required to improve the accuracy of CFD simulation.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the golf swing motion for a soft golf clubs and regular golf club. Soft golf is a newly developed recreational sports for all ages, including the elderly and the beginners of golf. To quantify the effect of using soft golf club, which much lighter club than regular clubs, a motion analysis has been performed using a 3D optoelectric motion tracking system that utilizes active infrared LEDs and near-infrared sensors. The subject performed swing motion using a regular golf club and a soft golf club in turn. The obtained motion capture data was used to build a 3D computer simulation model to obtain left wrist, elbow shoulder and lumbar joint force and torque using inverse and forward dynamics calculations. The joint force and torque during soft golf swing were lower than regular golf swing. The analysis gave better understanding of the effectiveness of the soft golf club.
Vulnerability studies on the existing building stock require that a large number of buildings is analyzed to obtain statistically significant evaluations of the seismic performance. Therefore, analytical evaluation methods need to be based on simplified methodologies of analysis which can afford the treatment of a large building population with a reasonable computational effort. Simplified Pushover-Based Earthquake Loss Assessment approach (SP-BELA), where a simplified methodology to identify the structural capacity of the building through the definition of a pushover curve is adopted, was developed on these bases. Main objective of the research work presented in this paper is to validate the simplified methodology implemented in SP-BELA against the results of more sophisticated nonlinear dynamic analyses (NLDAs). The comparison is performed for RC buildings designed only to vertical loads, representative of the "as built" in Italy and in Mediterranean countries with a building stock very similar to the Italian one. In NLDAs the non linear and degrading behaviour, typical of the structures under consideration when subjected to high seismic loads, is evaluated using models able to capture, with adequate accuracy, the non linear behaviour of RC structural elements taking into account stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, and pinching effect. Results show when simplified analyses are in good agreement with NLDAs. As a consequence, unsatisfactory results from simplified analysis are pointed out to address their current applicability limits.

Enhanced tensile properties of fiber reinforced concrete make it suitable for strengthening of reinforced concrete elements due to their superior corrosion resistance and high tensile strength properties. Recently, the use of fibers as strengthening material has increased motivating the development of numerical tools for the design of this type of intervention technique. This paper presents numerical analysis results carried out on a set of concrete beams reinforced with short fibers. To this purpose, a database of experimental results was collected from an available literature. A reliable and simple three-dimensional Finite Element (FE) model was defined. The linear and nonlinear behavior of all materials was adequately modeled by employing appropriate constitutive laws in the numerical simulations. To simulate the fiber reinforced concrete cracking tensile behavior an approach grounded on the solid basis of micromechanics was used. The results reveal that the developed models can accurately capture the performance and predict the load-carrying capacity of such reinforced concrete members. Furthermore, a parametric study is conducted using the validated models to investigate the effect of fiber material type, fiber volume fraction, and concrete compressive strength on the performance of concrete beams.
In this study, static bending of an edge cracked cantilever nanobeam composed of functionally graded material (FGM) subjected to transversal point load at the free end of the beam is investigated based on modified couple stress theory. Material properties of the beam change in the height direction according to exponential distributions. The cracked nanobeam is modelled using a proper modification of the classical cracked-beam theory consisting of two sub-nanobeams connected through a massless elastic rotational spring. The inclusion of an additional material parameter enables the new beam model to capture the size effect. The new non-classical beam model reduces to the classical beam model when the length scale parameter is set to zero. The considered problem is investigated within the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory by using finite element method. In order to establish the accuracy of the present formulation and results, the deflections are obtained, and compared with the published results available in the literature. Good agreement is observed. In the numerical study, the static deflections of the edge cracked FGM nanobeams are calculated and discussed for different crack positions, different lengths of the beam, different length scale parameter, different crack depths, and different material distributions. Also, the difference between the classical beam theory and modified couple stress theory is investigated for static bending of edge cracked FGM nanobeams. It is believed that the tabulated results will be a reference with which other researchers can compare their results.

An experimentally measured single footfall trace (SFT) from a walking subject needs to be extended into a continuous force curve, which can then be used as load for floor vibration serviceability assessment, or on which further analysis like discrete Fourier transform can be conducted. This paper investigates the accuracy, applicability and parametrical sensitivity of four extension methods, Methods I to IV, which extends the SFT into a continuous time history by the walking step rate, stride time, double support proportion and the double support time, respectively. Performance of the four methods was assessed by comparing their results with the experimentally obtained reference footfall traces in the time and frequency domain, and by comparing the vibrational response of a concrete slab subjected to the extended traces to that of reference traces. The effect of the extension parameter on each method was also explored through parametrical analysis. This study finds that, in general, Method I and II perform better than Method III and IV, and all of the four methods are sensitive to their extension parameter. When reliable information of walking rate or gait period is available in the test, Methods I or II is a better choice. Otherwise, Method III, with the suggested extension parameter of double support time proportion, is recommended.
