Numerical analysis of an innovative expanding pile under static and dynamic loading

  • Designing pile foundations subjected to the uplift forces such as buildings, oil platforms, and anchors is becoming increasingly concerned. In this paper, the conceptual design of a new type of driven piles called expanding pile is presented and assessed. Some grooves have been created in the shaft of the novel pile, and some moveable arms have been designed at the pile tip. At first, static analyses using the finite element method were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the innovative pile on the axial bearing capacity. Then its effect on seismic behavior of moment frame is considered. Results show that the expanding arms were provided an ideal anchorage system because of the soil's noticeable locking-up effect increasing uplift bearing capacity. For example at the end of the static tensile loading procedure, displacement decrement up to 55 percent is observed. In addition, comparing the uplift bearing capacity of the usual and new pile with different lengths in sand and clay layers shows noticeable effect and sharp increase up to about two times especially in longer piles. Besides, a sensible reduction in the seismic response and the stresses in the beam-column connection between 23-36 percent are achieved that ensures better seismic behavior of the structures.

재하시험을 통한 초고강도 선단확장 PHC말뚝의 적용성 연구 (Study on Bearing Capacity of Ultra High Strengh End Extended PHC Pile by Loading Test)

  • 경제 규모의 확장으로 국가 산업이 점차 발전해 나갈수록 사회 인프라를 구축하기 위한 대형 초고층 구조물의 건설이 증가함에 따라 상부의 큰하중을 하부의 암반지지층까지 안전하게 전달할 수 있는 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 단단한 암반층을 활용하여 지지력을 극대화 할 수 있도록 PHC의 콘크리트 압축강도를 기존 80 MPa에서 110 MPa로 높인 초고강도PHC에, 말뚝의 선단을 확장시킨 선단확장PHC를 항타공법과 매입공법으로 시공한 후 재하시험을 통해 지지력의 경향성을 확인해 보았다. 항타공법을 사용하여 선단확장PHC의 지지력을 측정해 본 결과 주면마찰력이 일반 PHC에 비해 작게 나타났으며, Stet-up 효과도 미미하게 나타나 지지력 측면에서 우위를 가질 수 없었다. 그러나 매입공법 적용시 주면마찰력의 발휘 효과는 주면부와 지반의 간격이 넓어 시멘트페이스트가 밀실히 채워질 경우 지지력 증가효과가 기대된다. 또한 초고강도PHC가 일반PHC에 비해 높은 지지력이 나타났으며, 허용항타응력도 60% 이내로 나타나 좀 더 견고한 지반까지 안전한 시공이 가능하였다. 따라서 초고강도PHC의 높아진 강도를 활용하기 위해서는 말뚝의 선단부를 연암의 강도를 지닌 지반에 설계하는 것이 말뚝 본수를 크게 절감 할 수 있으며, 시공비 절감과 공기단축의 효과도 얻을 수 있을 것이다.

공동주택 발코니 PV 연계 가정용 BESS의 에너지 절감 효과 분석 (Analysis of Energy Saving Effect of the Residential BESS Connected to the Balcony-PV in Apartment Houses)

  • The government mandates gradually zero energy building and Photovoltaic power generation systems installed in buildings are emerging as the most realistic alternative to increase the independence rate of building energy. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the power consumption of households by increasing the PV capacity of balconies and applying the method used the charged electric power stored in batteries after sunset. In order to evaluate the electric power energy savings of the residential BESS, a balcony PV 1.2 kW and a battery pack 2 kWh were installed for 9 houses in 4 apartments in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The BESS is charged when the balcony PV is generated electric power, and when solar power generation is finished, it supplies power to the electric appliances connected to the load. As a result of installing the solar PV module 1.2 kW and 2 kWh class BESS for 3 households located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, the average electric power consumption saving rate was 40%. The reduction in electricity consumption in the case of zero generation surplus power by maximizing the utilization rate of BESS has been improved to about 53%. Therefore, in order to increase the self-sufficiency rate of electric energy in apartment houses, it is effective to increase the solar photovoltaic capacity of the balcony and apply the residential BESS. In the future, it is believed that the balcony PV and home BESS will play a key role in achieving mandatory zero-energy housing.

철도 운행효율성 향상을 위한 노선용량 산정모형 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of a Route Capacity Calculation Model for Improving Railway Operation Efficiency)

  • 지나친 도시화로 인한 차량증가로 도시교통 문제가 사회문제로 인식되고 있고 이로 인해 효과적인 도로계획과 설계는 더욱 중요하게 되었다, 이에 따라 기존 도로를 확장하거나 새로운 도로를 건설할 때 도로의 교통량 산정에 필요한 기준과 방법을 도로용량편람으로 제정하여 운영하고 있다. 하지만 철도 노선에는 이러한 중요성에 불구하고 체계적인 교통량 산정기준이나 방법이 없었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철도의 경쟁력 강화를 위해 철도에도 노선용량이란 개념을 도입하여 명확한 철도 노선용량의 산정기준과 방법을 제시 하였다. 그 결과를 바탕으로 국내 철도의 주요 선구별 노선용량을 산정하였다, 이에 따라 본 연구에서 제시한 노선용량 산정방법을 적용하면, 기존의 철도 노선 및 새롭게 확대되는 신규 노선의 용량에 대한 적정한 투자와 설계가 계획단계에서부터 이루어 질 수 있도록 체계적인 기준을 제공할 수 있게 되었으며, 향후 철도 운행효율성 향상에도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) of Seoul Metro are equipped with air conditioning and six line flow fans for air circulation. In summer, the air conditioning and line flow fans usually work at the same time. Recently, high oil price leads more people to use public transportation, which in turn makes them feel hotter inside the rolling stocks and complain about air conditioning state. In order to improve indoor air quality in summer, it is inevitable to increase the cooling capacity of air conditioners, which costs a lot of money. Thus, we need to raise cooling efficiency by rearranging existing devices effectively. In this study, we found a better way to improve refreshment inside the trains by changing the operation method of line flow fans and door opening systems. The results will help improve the cooling efficiency of EMU in summer. Also, more precise experiments and analyses of our data can lead to various methods to increase energy efficiency.

전기자동차 파우치형 배터리 열관리 시스템의 냉각성능 향상에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Cooling Performance Improvement of Pouch Battery Thermal Management System for Electric Vehicles)

  • In many electric vehicles, large-capacity pouch-type lithium-ion battery packs are mainly used to increase the mileage on a single charge. The lithium ion battery should be operated within the temperature range of 25℃ to 40℃ because the battery performance can be rapidly deteriorated due to an increase in internal temperature. Battery thermal management system (BTMS) can give the suitable temperature conditions to battery by water cooling method. In this research, the heat transfer characteristics (the battery temperature distributions and the water flow characteristics) were analyzed by CFD method to investigate the thermal performance of the cooling plate with 4-pass water flow structure. Moreover, the effect of the presence of fins between the battery cell was identified. The fins made smooth temperature distributions between the battery cells due to the heat spreading and lower the average battery cells temperature.

A Steganographic Data Hiding Method in Timestamps by Bit Correction Technique for Anti-Forensics

  • In this research, a bit correction technique of data hiding method in timestamp of MFT entry in NTFS file system is proposed. This method is proposed in two ways, depending on the number of bytes of data to hide. A basic data hiding method using a bit correction technique to solve the problems of the conventional 2-byte technique is proposed. In order to increase the capacity of the data, a 3-byte data hiding method using an extended bit correction technique is proposed. The data hiding method in the timestamps is based on the fact that is not revealed in the Windows explorer window and the command prompt window even if any data is hidden in the timestamp area of less than one second. It is shown that the validity of the proposed method through the experimental two cases of the basic data hiding method by the bit correction method and the 3-byte data hiding method by the extended bit correction method.

강성저면위 유한한 두께의 모래지반에 놓인 얕은기초의 지지력 (Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundation on a Finite Layer of Sandy Ground Underlain by a Rigid Base)

  • 본 논문에서는 모형실험과 수치해석을 수행하여 유한한 두께의 모래지반 위에 놓인 얕은 띠기초의 지지력 평가방법을 제안하였다. 모형실험은 현장에서 채취한 모래시료를 사용하여 모래지반의 상대밀도와 대상 기초폭(B) 에 대한 모래층 두께(H)의 비(H/B)를 변화시키면서 1g와 20g 중력수준의 원심모형실험을 실시하였다. 실험결과, H/B가 감소함에 따라 지지력은 증가하고 침하는 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 상대밀도 증가에 따라 지지력이 증가하는 경향도 나타났다. 강성지반 위 두께가 얇은 모래층의 지지력 평가방법을 제안하기 위하여 실험 결과 얻은 지지력 계수를 H/B의 영향을 고려한 Mandel & Salencon(1972)의 수정지지력계수와 비교 분석하였다. H/B에 따른 지지력계수비 관계를 제안하여 보수적인 설계에 적용할 수 있도록 하였다. 기초 제원, 사질토 상대밀도, H/B를 변화시킨 수치해석을 실시한 결과, 제시된 관계식과 유사한 경향성을 확인하였다.

Load-carrying capacity degradation of reinforced concrete piers due to corrosion of wrapped steel plates

  • Two-dimensional elastoplastic finite element formulation is employed to investigate the load- carrying capacity degradation of reinforced concrete piers wrapped with steel plates due to occurrence of corrosion at the pier base. By comparing with experimental results, the employed finite element analysis method is verified to be accurate. After that, a series of parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of corrosion ratio and corrosion mode of steel plates located near the base of in-service pier P2 on load-carrying capacity of the piers. It is observed that the load-carrying capacity of the piers decreases with the increase in corrosion ratio of steel plates. There exists an obvious linear relationship between the load-carrying capacity and the corrosion ratio in the case of even corrosion mode. The degradation of load-carrying capacity resulted from the web's uneven corrosion mode is more serious than that under even corrosion mode, and the former case is more liable to occur than the latter case in actual engineering application. Finally, the failure modes of the piers under different corrosion state are discussed. It is found that the principal tensile strain of concrete and yield range of steel plates are distributed within a wide range in the case of slight corrosion, and they are concentrated on the column base when complete corrosion occurs. The findings obtained from the present study can provide a useful reference for the maintenance and strengthening of the in-service piers.

3개의 초전도 소자를 갖는 자속구속형 SFCL과 변압기형 SFCL의 특성 비교 (Comparison of Characteristics on the Flux-Lock and the Transformer Type SFCLs with Three Superconducting Units)

  • In order to increase the capacity of the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL), the current and voltage grades of the SFCL must be increased. As a method for the increase of the current and voltage grades of the SFCL, we compared the various characteristics between the flux-lock type SFCL "With three superconducting units connected in series and the transformer type SFCL using the transformer with three secondary circuits. One of three superconducting units had not quenched in the flux-lock type SFCL. Therefore, the unbalanced power burden happened because of the voltage difference generated by unbalanced quenching between the superconducting units. In the meantime, the three superconducting units were all quenched in the transformer type SFCL using the transformer, and the voltage difference generated between the superconducting units was decreased. Therefore, the difference of critical characteristics was complemented by distribution of fault current in accordance with the turn's ratio between primary and secondary windings. The unbalanced power burden of the superconducting units was reduced due to flux-share between the superconducting units in the transformer. In conclusion, the capacity increment of the SFCL using a transformer was easier due to equal distribution of voltages generated by simultaneous quench of the superconducting units. We think that the characteristics is improved more because of the decrease of saturation in the iron core if the secondary winding is increased in the SFCL using the transformer.
