Numerical Parametric Analysis of the Ultimate Loading-Capacity of Channel Purlins with Screw-Fastened Sheeting

  • This paper presents the numerical parametric analysis on the loading capacity of Channel purlins with screw-fastened sheeting, in which the effects of anti-sag bar and corrugated steel sheet on the ultimate capacity are studied. Results show that the setup of anti-sag bars can reduce the deformations and improve the ultimate capacity of C purlins. The traditional method of setting the anti-sag bars in the middle of the web is favorable. The changing of sheeting type, sheeting thickness and rib spacing has significant effects on the ultimate capacity of C purlins without anti-sag bars, compared with those with anti-sag bars. The proposed design formulas are relatively consistent with the calculations of EN 1993-1-3:2006, which is different from those of GB 50018-2002.

Effects of Red Ginseng on Exercise Capacity and Peripheral Fatigue in Mice

  • Objective: Fatigue can decrease both quality of life and work efficiency. Ginseng is one of the most popular herbal treatments for improving personal health, with applications in treating fatigue. However, the exact mechanisms of anti-fatigue effects are still unclear. Thus, we investigated the effect of red ginseng powder (RGP) on exercise capacity and peripheral fatigue using both behavioral and molecular experiments in mice. Design: Four-groups behavioral and molecular experiment. Methods: Male 6-weeks-old ICR mice were treated with distilled water, 100, and 200 mg/kg RGP for 5 days via oral administration. The exercise capacity of each animal group was measured by locomotor activity, rota-rod, hanging wire, and cold swimming tests. Additionally, after performing the treadmill to induce fatigue, lactate expression and molecular experiments were investigated using mice gastrocnemius. Results: Mice treated with RGP exhibited increased exercise capacity in the behavioral tests. Additionally, RGP induced a dose-dependent decrease in lactate levels after high-intensity exercise, and Monocarboxylate transporter (MCT) 4 expression increased in groups treated with RGP. However, there was no significant change in MCT1. Conclusions: These results suggest that RGP exerts several anti-fatigue properties by lower lactate and improved exercise capacity. Increased MCT4 expression may also affect lactate transport. Thus, this study suggests that the anti-fatigue properties of RGP might be associated with MCT4 activity.

  • Purpose: This study discusses the creative industry phenomenon which has different business characteristics both from resources and production processes to distribution. The study intends to analyze the effect of entrepreneurial orientation and market orientation on business performance by using absorptive capacity as a mediator. Research design, data, and methodology: Using the quantitative method, data were collected from 97 respondents, who are managers or owners of creative industry businesses in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data analyzed used Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Model. Results: The results of this study reveal that entrepreneurial orientation has no significant effect on business performance and has indirectly a trough absorptive capacity. Market orientation has a significant effect on business performance and indirectly through absorptive capacity. Another result is that absorptive capacity has a significant effect on business performance. Conclusions: When absorptive capability stresses the assimilation and exploitation of knowledge and market intelligence that has been learned to boost business performance improvements, market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation offer knowledge and experience to business processes including the creation of value distribution in the creative industries.

Cost-based optimization of shear capacity in fiber reinforced concrete beams using machine learning

  • The shear capacity of beams is an essential parameter in designing beams carrying shear loads. Precise estimation of the ultimate shear capacity typically requires comprehensive calculation methods. For steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams, traditional design methods may not accurately predict the interaction between different parameters affecting ultimate shear capacity. In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) modeling was utilized to predict the ultimate shear capacity of SFRC beams using ten input parameters. The results demonstrated that the ANN with 30 neurons had the best performance based on the values of root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2) compared to other ANN models with different neurons. Analysis of the ANN model has shown that the clear shear span to depth ratio significantly affects the predicted ultimate shear capacity, followed by the reinforcement steel tensile strength and steel fiber tensile strength. Moreover, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) was used to optimize the ANN model's input parameters, resulting in the least cost for the SFRC beams. Results have shown that SFRC beams' cost increased with the clear span to depth ratio. Increasing the clear span to depth ratio has increased the depth, height, steel, and fiber ratio needed to support the SFRC beams against shear failures. This study approach is considered among the earliest in the field of SFRC.

비점착성 지반상 팽이기초 적용에 따른 지지특성 (The Bearing Capacity Characteristics of Top Base Foundations in Cohesionless Soils)

  • 최근까지 국내에서는 팽이기초에 관한 연구가 미흡하였고, 지반조건에 맞는 설계기준이 마련되어 있지 못하여 일본의 설계기준을 그대로 사용하고 있는 실정이다. 이로 인해 기존 팽이기초의 지지력식은 과소하게 예측되는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실제크기의 1/5 스케일로 축소한 모형실험을 수행하였으며, 국내에서 이루어 진 100여개 현장의 재하실험 결과를 근거로 강도특성(N값), 지하수영향, 팽이기초의 파괴형상을 고려하여 보다 합리적으로 팽이기초의 지지력을 예측할 수 있는 식을 제안하였다.

Study on structural damping of aluminium using multi-layered and jointed construction

  • In this work, the mechanism of damping and its theoretical evaluation for layered aluminium cantilever structures jointed with a number of equispaced connecting bolts under an equal tightening torque have been considered. Extensive experiments have been conducted on a number of specimens for comparison with numerical results. Intensity of interface pressure, its distribution pattern, dynamic slip ratio and kinematic coefficient of friction at the interfaces, relative spacing of the connecting bolts, frequency and amplitude of excitation are found to play a major role on the damping capacity of such structures. It is established that the damping capacity of structures jointed with connecting bolts can be improved largely with an increase in number of layers maintaining uniform intensity of pressure distribution at the interfaces. Thus the above principle can be utilized in practice for construction of aircraft and aerospace structures effectively in order to improve their damping capacity which is one of the prime considerations for their design.

냉각된 복사천장패널의 열전달 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Radiant Chilled Ceiling Panel for Space Cooling)

  • There is a chilled ceiling panel which carries out the air conditioning by radiation and convection between the room and cold ceiling panel surface. In order to verify heat transfer characteristics between them in cooling system with radiant chilled ceiling panel, analytical and experimental studies were performed for various design and operating parameters such as tube space and diameter, inlet water temperature, mass flow rate, cooling load, and so on. In this study, we found that the tube space and inlet water temperature were more important elements than the tube diameter and water flow rate for the performance of radiant chilled ceiling panel. The cooling capacity of the radiant chilled ceiling panel had the maximum value of $65W/m^{2}$ because the highest cooling capacity was limited by the condensation on the panel surface. The results of comparison between numerical analysis and experiment showed a resonable agreement qualitatively, especially for low cooling capacity.

H-pile의 지지력 특성 및 동역학적 공식의 신뢰도 평가 (Characteristics of Bearing Capacity and Reliability-based Evaluation of Pile-Driving Formulas for H Pile)

  • Recently, pile foundations were constructed in rough or soft ground than ground of well condition thus it is important that prediction of ultimate bearing capacity and calculation of proper safety factor applied pile foundation design. This study were performed to dynamic loading tests for the thirty two piles at four different construction sites and selected pile at three site were performed to static loading tests and then compare with measured value and value of static and dynamic loading tests. The load-settlement curve form the dynamic loading tests by CAPWAP was very similar to the results obtained from the static load tests. Based on dynamic and static loading tests, the reliability of pile-driving formula were analyzed and then suggested with proper safety factor for prediction of allowable bearing capacity in this paper.

  • In this paper, we present the base station(BS) processing capacity to provide the multimedia services in IMT-2000 wireless communication network. The IMT-2000 services are classified into two types, circuit and packet services, and user‘s environments such as indoor, pedestrian and vehicle are considered. Using the parameters of service economics and wireless technology, the user's reference traffic and BS‘s traffic are computed. The traffic is measured by throughput(kbps). Based on the measured traffic, the accommodating users in BS are also evaluated. In addition to, the BS design capacity is presented for varying the number of users and traffic distribution in different user's environments.

불균질입자강화 복합재료의 최적설계를 위한 손상메커니즘 해석 (Analysis of Damage Mechanism for Optimum Design in Discontinuously-Reinforced Composites)

  • In particle or short-fiber reinforced composites, cracking or debonding of the reinforcements cause a significant damage mode because the damaged reinforcements lose load carrying capacity. The average stress in the inhomogeneity represents its load carrying capacity, and the difference between the average stresses of the intact and broken inhomogeneities indicates the loss of load carrying capacity due to cracking damage. The composite in damage process contains intact and broken reinforcements in a matrix. An incremental constitutive relation of discontinuously-reinforced composites including the progressive cracking damage of the reinforcements have been developed based on the Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method and Mori-Tanaka's mean field concept. Influence of the cracking damage on the stress-strain response of the composites is demonstrated.
