Uniform Fractional Band CAC Scheme for QoS Provisioning in Wireless Networks

  • Generally, the wireless network provides priority to handover calls instead of new calls to maintain its quality of service (QoS). Because of this QoS provisioning, a call admission control (CAC) scheme is essential for the suitable management of limited radio resources of wireless networks to uphold different factors, such as new call blocking probability, handover call dropping probability, channel utilization, etc. Designing an optimal CAC scheme is still a challenging task due to having a number of considerable factors, such as new call blocking probability, handover call dropping probability, channel utilization, traffic rate, etc. Among existing CAC schemes such as, fixed guard band (FGB), fractional guard channel (FGC), limited fractional channel (LFC), and Uniform Fractional Channel (UFC), the LFC scheme is optimal considering the new call blocking and handover call dropping probability. However, this scheme does not consider channel utilization. In this paper, a CAC scheme, which is termed by a uniform fractional band (UFB) to overcome the limitations of existing schemes, is proposed. This scheme is oriented by priority and non-priority guard channels with a set of fractional channels instead of fractionizing the total channels like FGC and UFC schemes. These fractional channels in the UFB scheme accept new calls with a predefined uniform acceptance factor and assist the network in utilizing more channels. The mathematical models, operational benefits, and the limitations of existing CAC schemes are also discussed. Subsequently, we prepared a comparative study between the existing and proposed scheme in terms of the aforementioned QoS related factors. The numerical results we have obtained so far show that the proposed UFB scheme is an optimal CAC scheme in terms of QoS and resource utilization as compared to the existing schemes.

A VoIP Traffic Generator for Simulating Call Processing in an IP Contact Center (IP 컨택 센터에서 통화 처리 모의 실험을 위한 VoIP 트래픽 생성기)

  • In this paper, we design and implement a VoIP traffic generator for simulating call processing in IP contact center systems. Creating a VoIP call based on H.323 and SIP and generating RTP traffic which uses G.711 codec, the generator lets many users simulate situations on which they call each other. With this tool, which is named VoIPTG, users can combine H.323 or SIP session control protocol, the number of users, time variation, and voice codecs and then direct various situations for simulation. This traffic generator can be used for testing functions of an IP contact center and especially it is necessary for testing the quality of IP based call recording systems.

  • In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system, the cell capacity is defined as the number of available channels in a cell, which is limited by the interferences. When a new call is accepted at its home cell, this adds the interference to the home and its neighboring cells. This paper proposes a call admission control based on mobile transmission power prediction. The home cell has enough capacity to admit new call and if home cell would have admitted a new call, it calculates the mobile transmission power. Also, its neighboring cell can predict the amount of interference using the predicted mobile transmission power. Thus, the new mobile is accepted by its home cell if QoS(Quality Of Service) is guaranteed in its neighboring cells. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme largely reduces the outage probability in the neighboring cells.

A study of descriptive forms of catalogue and searching method for dissertations (학위논문의 목록기술형식 및 검색방법 고찰)

  • In college or university libraries, the data of dissertations is one of the important academic information data. But traditional cataloging rules of dissertations and the method of operation is not only didn't unify but also fit to actual circumstances of library. This reason make librarians waste of time and the situation about piling up of unprocessed data don't make library services properly. In this papers, to analyze the above mentioned problems, I have investigated with questionaries about actual examples of construction methods of call number and item describing form of dissertations which is being used now in every college library in Korea. With the replied 61 questionaries which was compared with and investigated to merits and faults about library itself, I have showed revision ways. The characteristics of the revision ways are the followings. 1) Deleted informal and unmeaning descriptions and simplified describing. 2) Recommended to operating one or two kinds describing items which are only necessary. 3) Made call number specifically and then it make us easy to identify data and simultaneously call number can do its original action. 4) shelving range of data is made to colleges, years, departments, majors but in same departments, author's name is recommended by Korean alphabetical ordering. Besides, for proper and systematic management and operating of data. It must be necessary to recommend that reading systems of closed shelves type, incoming and outgoing and shelving by fulltime exclusive charged librarian, separate management of items and data are recommended.

  • As the number of CDMA subscribers increases, CDMA systems utilize more than one CDMA carrier In order to accommodate Increasing capacity requirement. In this paper, we present a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity of CDMA systems with multiple CDMA carriers. in the case of the algorithm proposed in 〔5〕, the calculation complexity for evaluating the call blocking probability Is increased proportionally to the sixth power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA system supports voice and data services. Consequently, It is Impractical to calculate Erlang capacity with the algorithm of 〔5〕especially when the number of used CDMA carriers is larger than 3. To resolve this problem, we propose a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity. The calculation complexity of the proposed method for evaluating call blocking probability is increased just proportionally to the second power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA systems support voice and data services.

  • CAC is a very important issue in CDMA system in order to protect the required QoS(quality of service) and increase the system's capacity. In this paper, we proposed and analyzed a call admission control scheme using multiple thresholds, which can provide quick processing time and better performance. There are two effective thresholds used to decide call admission. One is the number of active users, and the other is the signal to interference ratio(SIR). If the threshold of active users are lower than the low number of users threshold, we accept the new call without any other conditions. Otherwise, we check the current SIR to guarantee the quality of our service. System then accepts the new call when the SIR satisfies system requirement. Otherwise, the call will be rejected. Multiple threshold schemes are investigated and their performance is compared with the number of user and power based CAC's. simulation results are provided to evaluate the performance.

Learning from the USA's Single Emergency Number 911: Policy Implications for Korea (미국 긴급번호 911 운영시스템에 관한 연구: 긴급번호 실질적 통합을 위한 정책 시사점 제시 중심으로)

  • In Korea, a single emergency number, such as 911 of the USA and 999 of the UK, does not exist. This issue became highly controversial, when the Sewol Ferry Sinking disaster occurred last year. So, the Korean government has planned to adopt a single emergency number, integrating 112 of the Police, 119 of the Fire and Ambulance, 122 of the Korean Coast Guard, and many other emergency numbers. However, the integration plan recently proposed by the Ministry of Public Safety Security seems to be, what is called, a "partial integration model" which repeals the 122 number, but still maintains 112, 119, and 110 respectively. In this context, the study looks into USA's (diverse) 911 operating system, and subsequently tries to draw general features or characteristics. Further, the research attempts to derive policy implication from the general features. If the proposed partial integration model reflects the policy implications, the model can virtually operate like the 911 system -i.e. a single emergency number system - creating inter-operability between responding agencies such as police, fire, and ambulance, even though it is not a perfect integration model. The features drawn are (1) integration of emergency call-taking, (2) functional separation of call-taking and dispatching, (3) integration of physical facilities for call-taking and dispatching, and (4) professional call-takers and dispatchers. Moreover, the policy implications derived from the characteristics are (1) a user-friendly system - fast but accurate responses, (2) integrated responses to accidents, (3) professional call-taking and dispatching & objective and comprehensive risk assessment, and finally (4) active organizational learning in emergency call centers. Considering the policy implications, the following suggestions need to be applied to the current proposed plan: 1. Emergency services' systems should be tightly linked and connected in a systemic way so that they can communicate and exchange intelligence with one another. 2. Public safety answering points (call centers) of each emergency service should share their education and training modules, manuals, etc. Common training and manuals are also needed for inter-operability. 3. Personal management to enable-long term service in public safety answering points (call centers) should be established as one of the ways to promote professionalism.

  • This study is estimates telephone service demand based on empirical studies of telecommunication service demand model. First, the telephone charge(call price index) by each location and subscription fee bring about a negative effect to telephone distribution rate: while the other explanatory variables bring about a positive effect. Second, the flexibility of telephone charge in A location(relevant location) and the flexibility between the distance of A location and B location are negative values, while the flexibility of other explanatory variables is represented in a positive value. This means that the long distance call numbers from A location to B location are in inverse proportion against the phone charge(call price index) of A location and against the distance between A location and the distance of other locations except A location, while they are in direct proportion with an average call number per minute from A location to other locations except A location, and also with subscription numbers of A location, other subscribers in locations other than A location, and the total expenditures of A location.

  • Although the importance of the construction lift is increasing, no improvements are being made to its operating system. This study proposed an optimal call-response algorithm of the construction lift for high-rise building construction by using image sensing technology, height measuring sensor, and load cell. This algorithm makes turn-around decision of the construction lift by considering the information and the number of user. It occurs when the call comes from a floor where the construction lift already have passed. The purpose of this study is to reduce the total latency of the construction lift user. Furthermore, it is possible to prevent delay in construction duration by carrying out a priority operation of the construction lift for the critical workforce.

  • The signal fading distortion has effect on the capacity of cellular mobile communication systems. The short term fading is solved by signal processing techniques depending on the radio communication methods, but another distortion compensation techniques are necessary to combat long term fading. in this paper, we have simulated the call processing in DS-CDMA system using distributed antennas to overcome the long term fading. From the simulation results, we have conformed that the blocking probability of a new call andthe forced probability of handoff-request-call have decreased by increasing the number of distributed antennas.
