This study reviewed the groundwater policies of USA as a benchmarking for the purpose of improving groundwater polices, regulations, and plans in Korea. Each state of the USA has its own unique groundwater policies. Recently, severe drought in the western parts of the USA resulted in the launch of the California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring (CASGEM) program. CASGEM classified a total of 515 alluvial groundwater basins of the California State to four prior groups (high, medium, low, and very low prioritization). In Texas, a total of 101 Groundwater Conservation Districts (GCDs) over the state has controlled groundwater pumping amounts in their own management areas and 16 Groundwater Management Areas (GMAs) over the state have directly managed groundwater aquifer. Direct management for aquifers by GMAs would be the most scientific method for groundwater management, which expected to provide water consumers the more advavnced groundwater service. These groundwater management strategies of the USA can be possibly considered in groundwater plans for national and local governmental authorities, which possibly results in more optimal groundwater management in Korea.

A taxonomic study on the marine sponges was conducted with materials collected from intertidal zone of Sourthern California (USA) during 2005-2006. They were identified into 13 species belonging to 12 genera, nine families, and seven orders in one class. Among them, common species in Korea and California coastal areas are; Cliona celata, Lissodendoryx firma, Halichondria panicea, Hymeniacidon sinapium.

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라를 중심으로 미국, 영국, 일본의 수학과 교육과정에서 다루고 있는 내용을 구체적으로 비교하는 것이다. 본 연구의 결과, 수학과 교육과정에서 다루는 내용들의 양, 깊이. 학년 수준에서, 우리나라와 미국, 영국, 일본 사이에 상당한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전반적으로 우리나라의 교육과정이 미국, 일본, 영국의 교육과정보다 더 많은 주제를 더 빨리 도입하여 더 높은 수준까지 다루고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 특징은 대수, 해석, 기하 영역에서 분명하게 나타났으며, 확률과 통계 영역에서는 상대적으로 약화되는 것으로 나타났다.

미국 캘리포니아에서 채집된 Taxanobathynella속의 1신종, T. sachi를 기재하였다. 상세한 형태학적 특징들의 비교를 통해 Taxanobathynella속을 Iberobathynella속을 구별하였다.

Based on samplings during 2006-2007 on the intertidal zone of Playa Tampico, Eréndira and Punta Baja, Baja California, Ulva pertusa Kjellman (Ulvales, Chlorophyta) was recorded for the first time for the Pacific coast of Mexico. An alga native to Asia, U. pertusa has just recently been recorded in the southern coast of California (USA). The identification of U. pertusa was based on the observation of the morphology and reproductive characters of the collected specimens. Furthermore, the species identity was confirmed by molecular comparison between nuclearencoded ITS2 sequences of the Mexican samples and those of other Ulva species in GenBnak data. Habitat and distribution of U. pertusa along the Pacific coast of North America are also described. Considering our new report of its occurrence in Mexico, we conclude that U. pertusa is expanding its geographical distribution by trans-ocean introductions.

This research expands investigations into the biomass resource potential associated with California's food processing industry by surveying industries within a two county region in the San Joaquin Valley, California, USA. A previous survey conducted in 2005 for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) quantified residue and waste generation from food processors and food preparation businesses in the Sacramento region. The present survey investigates residue and waste streams from food processors located in Merced and Stanislaus Counties. Sixty food processors were identified to participate in the survey, of which 49 responded (82%) and data were acquired for 38 (63%) (6 facilities closed or moved, 8 decided not to participate). Within the two counties, total annual waste among survey respondents amounted to 24,044 dry tons of high moisture (${\geq}$60%) food residuals, 5,358 dry tons of low moisture (<60%) food residuals; and 23.7 million $m^3$ of wastewater containing 38,814 tons of biochemical oxygen demand ($BOD_5$). The total potential electric power generation from these food residues was estimated at approximately $7\;MW_e$. Total solid waste resource included in the survey response was estimated at about 10% of statewide residue generation for processors falling within the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) System Major Group 20 (Food and Kindred Products) categories.

In this study, we try to understand the present condition of elderly housing facilities in Contra Costa County, California, USA. We got the basic information of 92 facilities through the interview with the chief of elderly housing department in Contra Costa County, California. In practical way of research, this study bears various components of the elderly housing facilities, which are type of facility, financial aids, type of apartment, and provided living services. The short summerising of researches are; The present conditions of elderly housing facilities can be classified as Independent Living(53), Congregate Housing(23), Assisted Living(33), Dementia Care(12). The financial aid conditions are shown like SSI, HA, HUD. The types of apartment are studio type, 1 bedroom type, 2 bedroom type. These facilities provides meals, housekeeping, transportation, small pets. As a result of studying the present condition of elderly housing facilities in Contra Costa County, we propose the basic statistical report on the most general type of housing, financial aids, type of services that people of the states want to get.
