Physico-chemical characteristics of the Ca-based and Na-based dry sorbents were compared using thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) methods. The studied characteristics were thermal stability, sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) absorption capacity and absorption rate at $250^{\circ}C$ which is a typical temperature before a fabric filter, and $SO_2$ absorption capacity at an ambient temperature. Calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$) started to decompose into calcium oxide (CaO) at $390^{\circ}C$ and completed at 480~$500^{\circ}C$, showing 76% of an original $Ca(OH)_2$ weight. Sodium bicarbonate ($NaHCO_3$) also converted to sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) between $95^{\circ}C$ and $190^{\circ}C$, decreasing the weight to 63% of its initial weight. Among four sorbents tested at $250^{\circ}C$, sodium carbonate had the highest capacity, absorbing 0.35 g $SO_2$/g sorbent. Calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide followed that showing 0.156 g and 0.065 g $SO_2$ absorption per absorbent respectively. Ca-based absorbents showed slower rate than sodium carbonate because of initial stagnant step. However, calcium hydroxide caught more $SO_2$ than sodium carbonate at ambient temperature. From this work, it can be concluded that Ca-based absorbent is a proper sorbent for $SO_2$ treatment at low temperature and sodium carbonate, at high temperature.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of Houttuyniae Herba water extract (HC) on calcium release and production of various inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide (NO), interferon-inducible protein (IP)-10, platelet derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB, keratinocyte-derived chemokine (KC), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interleukin (IL)-4, and IL-5 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages. Methods : NO production was measured by Griess reagent assay. Intracellular calcium level was measured with Fluo-4 assay. Levels of cytokines were measured by High-throughput multiplex bead array cytokine assay based on xMAP (multi-analyte profiling beads) technology. Results : HC significantly decreased NO production for 24 hrs incubation at the concentrations of 10, 25, 50, 100, and $200{\mu}/mL$ in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 (P < 0.05). HC significantly decreased production of IP-10, KC, VEGF, and PDGF-BB for 24 hrs incubation at the concentrations of 50, 100, and $200{\mu}/mL$ in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 (P < 0.05). HC also significantly decreased intracellular calcium release for 24 hrs incubation at the concentrations of 25, 50, 100, and $200{\mu}/mL$ in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 (P < 0.05). But HC did not show any significant effect on production of IL-4 and IL-5 in LPS-induced RAW 264.7. Conclusions : The results suggested that HC has anti-inflammatory property related with its inhibition on the production of NO, IP-10, KC, VEGF, and PDGF-BB in LPS-induced macrophages via calcium pathway.
Nitric oxide is a labile, gaseous, broad spectrum second messenger that used in various tissues and cells. If it is induced by endogenously and exogenously in the neuronal cells, it is able to mediate analgesia or hyperalgesia at the periphery and in the spinal level respectively. This dual role of nitric oxide in the sensory system is very intriguing but has not been fully understood yet. In this experiment, acetylcholine (300 $\mu$g/paw), sodium nitroprusside (600 $\mu$g/paw), and L-arginine (300 $\mu$g/paw) represented antinociceptive effect to noxious topical stimulus, but pronociceptive responses followed by spinally application (20$\mu$g/5$\mu$l, 10$\mu$g/3$\mu$l, 500$\mu$g/5$\mu$l respectively). Calcium ion is critical element which activates nitric oxide synthase, therefore verapamil (300 $\mu$g/paw) and NOS inhibitor (20 mg/kg, L-NAME or L-NOArg) are injected into right hind paw (i.pl.). When verapamil is combined with NOS inhibitors analgesic effects through NO-cGMP pathway are inhibited as compared with ACh alone. Diluted formalin (2.5%), when injected into rats'hind paw (0.05 ml), elicited a biphasic algesic responses and nitric oxide had an analgesic effect on both $A\delta$ and C sensory nerve fibers which manipulate the phases respective1y. Nitric oxides, which produced from constitutive nitric oxide synthase, activated cyclooxygenase-type I and then prostaglandins are produced from them. So, indomethacin and ibuprofen, inhibitors of COX$_1$enzyme, when pretreated intraperitoneally (100 mg/kg) could reduce the hyperalgesic state. From these results, it is possible to imagine that the intrathecally administered NO donors expressed hyperalgesia through both long-term potentiation mechanism and arachidonic acid-prostaglandin cascade.
Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) plays a critical role in vascular biology and pathophysiology. Its activity is regulated by multiple mechanisms such as calcium/calmodulin, protein-protein interactions, sub-cellular locations and phosphorylation at various sites. Phosphorylation of eNOS-Ser1177 (based on mouse sequence) has been identified as an important mechanism of eNOS activation. However, signaling pathway leading to it phosphorylation remains controversial. The regulation of eNOS-Ser1177 phosphorylation by Src and protein kinase A (PKA) was investigated in the present study using cultured mouse aorta endothelial cells. Expression of a constitutively active Src mutant in the cells enhanced phosphorylation of eNOS and protein kinase B (Akt). The Src-stimulated phosphorylation was not attenuated by the expression of a dominant negative PKA regulatory subunit. Neither activation nor inhibition of PKA activity had any significant effect on tyrosine phosphorylation of activation or inactivation site in Src. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that Src/Akt pathway and PKA signaling may regulate eNOS phosphorylation independently. The existence of multiple mechanisms for eNOS phosphorylation may guarantee endothelial nitric oxide production in various cellular contexts which is essential for maintenance of vascular health.

Flexible Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays are required for future devices. It is possible that plastic substrates are instead of glass substrates. But the plastic substrates are permeable to moisture and oxygen. This weak point can cause the degradation of fabricated flexible devices; therefore, encapsulation process for flexible substrate is needed to protect organic devices from moisture and oxygen. Y.G. Lee et al.(2009) [1] reported organic and inorganic multilayer structure as an encapsulation barrier for enhanced reliability and life-time.Flowable Oxide process is a low-temperature process which shows the excellent gap-fill characteristics and high deposition rate. Besides, planarization is expected by covering dust smoothly on the substrate surface. So, in this research, Bi-layer structured is used for encapsulation: Flowable Oxide Thin film by PECVD process and Al2O3 thin film by ALD process. The samples were analyzed by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) using the Calcium test and film cross section images were obtained by FE-SEM.
To get deeper insight into the effect of intergranular additives in sintered Nd-Fe-B magnet and consequently improve the properties better, the interaction between additives (oxide, nitride, and carbide) and Nd-rich phase in the temperature range of 298.15-1400 K was analyzed thermodynamically. It can be found that the oxide additives became less stable than nitrides and carbides. Except for calcium oxide, almost all oxides could react with Nd from Nd-rich phase. To be different from oxide additives, the mechanism of nitrides and carbides was defined with various elements, either reaction with Nd from Nd-rich phase or not. The two different mechanisms would show different effects on the microstructure and hence properties of magnet. The thermodynamic analysis had a better agreement with the experimental information.
This paper presents the results of a study that was undertaken to optimize the ratio of the components of a new multi-component inhibitor blend composed of orthophosphate/ phosphonates/ acrylate copolymer/ isothiazolone. The effects of newly developed inhibitor on carbon steel dissolution in synthetic cooling water were studied through weight loss tests, electrochemical tests, scale tests, and micro-organism tests. The obtained results were compared to blank (uninhibited specimen) and showed that developed inhibitor revealed very good corrosion, scale, and micro-organism inhibition simultaneously. All measurements indicated that the efficiency of the blended mixture exceeded 90 %. The inhibitive effects arose from formation of protective films which might contain calcium phosphate, calcium phosphonate, and iron oxide. The nature of protective films formed on the carbon steel was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and auger electron spe ctroscopy (AES). Inhibitor used in this study appeared to have better performance for scale inhibition due to their superior crystal modification effect and excellent calcium carbonate scale inhibition properties. The effect of inhibitor on microorganisms was evaluated through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test. All kinds of micro-organisms used in this study were inhibited under 78ppm concentration of inhibitor.
A 19-year-old Korean woman presented with left mandibular dental pain and swelling. Periapical radiolucencies were associated with the mandibular left first molar, second molar and the mandibular right second molar. The mandibular right second molar root developed incompletely and has the open apex. Clinical examination revealed worn accessory occlusal cusps of premolars. A diagnosis of dens evaginatus with associated periapical lesion secondary to pulpal necrosis was made. The root canal of the lower right second premolar was sealed with Calcium hydroxide paste for apexification. About two months later Calcium hydroxide paste was removed and the canal was resealed with new Calcium hydroxide paste. After four months the canal was sealed permanently with guttapercha and zinc oxide-eugenol sealer. The root canals of the lower left premolars were irrigated every week with 3.5% NaOCl solution for and half month. And the canals were sealed with gutta-percha and ZOE sealer. Preventive endodontic treatment for the lower right first premolar was undertaken.

Sorbents of calcined limestone and oyster particles having a diameter of about 0.63mm were exposed to simulate fuel gases containing 5000ppmv H2S for temperatures ranging from 600 to 800C in a TGA. The reaction between CaO and H2S proceds via an unreacted shrinking core mechanism. The sulfidation rate is likely to be controlled primarily by countercurrent diffusion through the product layer of calcium sulfide(CaS) formed. The kinetics of the sorption of H2S by CaO is sensitive to the reaction temperature and particle size, and the reaction rate of oyster was faster than the calcined limestone.

Microencapsulation of anchovy oil as a core material in sodium alginate as a wall material was inves tigated. Microencapsulation was accomplished by injecting an oil/water emulsion, consisting of a mixture of liquefied sodium alginate and emulsifier, under high pressure through an orifice submerged in a calcium lactate solution. Microcapsules suspended in a dispersion fluid were observed under a fluorescence mi croscope to verify the presence of the capsules and to note coalescence or degradation of the capsules. Optimum conditions for microencapsulation of anchovy oil were obtained when 1.0% aqueous solution of sodium alginate contained 3% of a 1:1 ratio of ESPR 25(polyglycerine+polylinoleate) and TW 20(sorbitan laurate+ethylene oxide) as an emulsifier in terms of capsule size and size distribution, and emulsion stability. The airless sprayer produced microcapsules with a diameter between 15.9 and 73.9 m with different concentration of a wall material. The optimum mixing ratio of wall material to core material was 90:10(wt/wt). 0.2% calcium lactate was appropriate as a dispersion fluid.
