User Popularity based Cache Replacement Algorithm for Multimedia Streaming in Proxy Server (멀티미디어 스트리밍을 위한 프록시 서버에서의 사용자 선호도 기반 캐쉬 교환 알고리즘)

  • 대용량의 멀티미디어 데이터들을 다수의 시용자가 동시에 요구할 경우 접속이 끊기거나 데이터의 손실과 같은 접속 성능이 현저하게 저하되는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 이는 대부분의 사용자들의 요청을 원거리의 Central Server가 단독으로 처리하기 때문에 발생하는 문제이다. 띠라서 Central Sever의 Load 감소와 초기 지연시간 및 비디오 패킷의 손실의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 프록시 서버를 사용자의 근거리에 위치시키는 방법을 이용한다. 대용랑의 멀티미디어 데이터들을 복잡한 인터넷의 중간경로를 거치지 않고 다수의 사용자들에게 직접 전달함으로써 데이터의 손실을 방지함과 동시에 보다 안정적이고 빠른 속도로 제공하는 것이 가능하다. 특징적으로 프록시 서버는 Central Server에 비해 비교적 제한된 용랑을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 사용자의 선호도를 기반으로 하여 앞으로 요구학 것이라고 예측되는 비디오 데이터들만을 선별적으로 저장하도록 하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안하는 캐쉬 교환 알고리즘을 기존의 알고리즘과 비교, 관찰한 결과 상대적으로 높은 Hit rate가 나타남을 확인하였다.

Development of a Gateway System for Social Network Services

  • In this paper, we propose a method to reduce mobile social network services (SNSs) traffic using a mobile integrated SNS gateway (MISG) to improve network communication performance between the mobile client and SNS servers. The gateway connects the client and SNS servers using the contents adapter and the web service adapter and helps to improve communication performance using its cache engine. An integrated SNS application, the user's client, communicates with the gateway server using integrated SNS protocol. In addition, the gateway can alert the client to new SNS contents because of the broker server implemented by the message queuing telemetry transport protocol. We design and develop the modules of the gateway server and the integrated SNS application. We then measure the performance of MISG in terms of content response time and describe the result of the experiment.

MLC-LFU : The Multi-Level Buffer Cache Management Policy for Flash Memory (MLC-LFU : 플래시 메모리를 위한 멀티레벨 버퍼 캐시 관리 정책)

  • Recently, NAND flash memory is used not only for portable devices, but also for personal computers and server computers. Buffer cache replacement policies for the hard disks such as LRU and LFU are not good for NAND flash memories because they do not consider about the characteristics of NAND flash memory. CFLRU and its variants, CFLRU/C, CFLRU/E and DL-CFLRU/E(CFLRUs) are the buffer cache replacement policies considered about the characteristics of NAND flash memories, but their performances are not better than those of LRD. In this paper, we propose a new buffer cache replacement policy for NAND flash memory. Which is based on LFU and is taking into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory. And we estimate the performance of hit ratio and flush operation numbers. The proposed policy shows better hit ratio and the number of flush operation than any other policies.

An Adaptive Cache Replacement Policy for Web Proxy Servers (웹 프락시 서버를 위한 적응형 캐시 교체 정책)

  • The explosive increase of World Wide Web usage has incurred significant amount of network traffic and server load. To overcome these problems, web proxy caching replicates frequently requested documents in the web proxy closer to the users. Cache utilization depends on the replacement policy which tries to store frequently requested documents in near future. Temporal locality and Zipf frequency distribution, which are commonly observed in web proxy workloads, are considered as the important properties to predict the popularity of documents. In this paper, we propose a novel cache replacement policy, called Adaptive LFU (ALFU), which incorporates 1) Zipf frequency distribution by utilizing LFU and 2) temporal locality adaptively by measuring the amount of the popularity reduction of documents as time passed efficiently. We evaluate the performance of ALFU by comparing it to other policies via trace-driven simulation. Experimental results show that ALFU outperforms other policies.

  • Disk Cache Manager(DCM), a functional server of microkernel based, to improve the I/O power of shared disks is designed and implemented in this work. DCM interfaces other different servers with message passing through ports by serving as a system actor the multi-thread mode on the Minix3 micro-kernel. DCM proposed in this paper uses the shared disk logically as a Seven Disk and Sodd Disk to enable parallel I/O. DCM enables the efficient placement of disk data because it raises disk cache hit-ratio by increasing the cache size when the utilization of the particular disk is high. Through experimental results, we show that DCM is quite efficient for a shared disk with higher utilization.

  • Mobile clients like a PDA need a cache and a spatial index to search and access map data efficiently. When a server transmits spatial objects to a mobile client which has a low storage capacity, some of them can be duplicated in a cache of the mobile client. Moreover, the cost for strong added data in the cache and reconfiguring spatial index is very high in the mobile client with low computing power. The scheme for processing duplicated objects and disturbing tasks of the mobile client which has low computing power is needed. In this paper, we classfy the method for strorng duplicated objects and present the scheme for the both caching objects and reconfiguring a spatial index of cached objects using the clipping technique. We propose the caching system based on an agent in order to distribute the overhead of a mobile client as well as to provide efficiently map services. We design and implement it, and evaluate the performance.

  • Nowadays users of Virtual Environment are want to play with thousands of players in an evolving virtual world at the same time over the internet. So, the load of this kind of Virtual Environments is heavier than that of any other precedents. One of load balancing methods is map-partition to divide the load of entire system which is vulnerable to delay message between clients and servers. In this paper, we propose a Migration Agent application server architecture using to help migration of player character between field servers and to reduce response time between clients and field servers. Migration Agent is reduce Player Character's responds time as Cache Server, if Player Character move to another Field Server, Player Character need the synchronization process in the DBMS approach, to minimize response time by reducing the period for cross - Player Character Field Server to perform the role. Field Server by placing them in form of a stack existing form of grid, for load concentrated on a specific server.

  • In data broadcasting environments, the server periodically broadcasts data items in the broadcast channel. When each client wants to access any data item, it should monitor the broadcast channel and wait for the desired item to arrive. Client data caching is a very effective technique for reducing the time spent waiting for the desired item to be broadcastted. This paper proposes a new client cache management scheme, named LRU-CFP, to reduce this waiting time ans evaluates its performance on the basis of a simulation model. The performance results indicate that LRU-CFP scheme shows superior performance over LRU, GRAY and CF in the average response time.

  • MMORPG is a role-playing game that tens of thousands of people access it online at the same time. Users connect to the server through the game client and play with their own characters. If the user moves to a management area of another server beyond the area managed by the server, the user information must be transmitted to the server to be moved. In an actual game, the user is required to synchronize the established and the transferred information. In this paper, we propose a migration agent server in the virtual systems. We implement a seamless virtual server using the grid method to experiment with seamless server architecture for virtual systems. We propose a method to minimize the delay and equalize the load when the user moves to another server region in the virtual environment. Migration Agent acts as a cache server to reduce response time, the response time was reduced by 50% in the case of 70,000 people.

  • In this paper, we propose a new caching scheme for continuous media data where the buffer allocation unit is divided into two modes : interval and object. All of objects' access patterns are monitored and based on the results of monitoring, a request for an object is decided to cache its data with either interval mode or object mode. The results of our simulation show that our proposed caching scheme is better than the existing caching algorithms such as interval caching where the access patterns of the objects are changed with time.
