Using the Cabri3D Program for Enhancing Problem Solving Ability (문제해결력 신장을 위한 Cabri3D의 교육적 활용)

  • In this study, we investigated the methods of using the Cabri3D program for education of problem solving in school mathematics. Cabri3D is the program that can represent 3-dimensional figures and explore these in dynamic method. By using this program, we can see mathematical relations in space or mathematical properties in 3-dimensional figures vidually. We conducted classroom activity exploring Cabri3D with 15 pre-service leachers in 2006. In this process, we collected practical examples that can assist four stages of problem solving. Through the analysis of these examples, we concluded that Cabri3D is useful instrument to enhance problem solving ability and suggested it's educational usage as follows. In the stage of understanding the problem, it can be used to serve visual understanding and intuitive belief on the meaning of the problem, mathematical relations or properties in 3-dimensional figures. In the stage of devising a plan, it can be used to extend students's 2-dimensional thinking to 3-dimensional thinking by analogy. In the stage of carrying out the plan, it can be used to help the process to lead deductive thinking. In the stage of looking back at the work, it can be used to assist the process applying present work's result or method to another problem, checking the work, new problem posing.

  • We will construct several types of semi-regular tilings of a hyperbolic unit disk model by defining geometric features of the definition of distance in a hyperbolic plane, area of triangle, and isometry of inversions. We researched the method of regular tilings and semi-regular tilings of hyperbolic unit disk model and wrote an semi-regular tiling construction algorithm using Cabri2 program and Cinderella program. Lastly, We want to make a product related to traditional heritage cultural patterns using Photoshop, so we'll model the advertising photos of cites; Seoul, Gwangju.

  • We study the dynamic geometry software suitable for the Internet Environment. First, we look into the necessity of dynamic geometry software and compare the functions and the features of commercial softwares, GSP, Cabri and Cinderella. Secondly, we introduce the process of development and the structure of the new software DRC(Digital Ruler and Compass) designed by authors and discuss the learning program with DRC and Internet, and view the upgrade of the software in the future.

Analysis of pre-service teachers' cognition on a teacher education program in technology-friendly flipped classroom (공학 도구 친화적 거꾸로 수업에서 예비교사의 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate characteristics of pre-service teachers' cognition about learning through the use of technology by employing a teacher education program in the use of technology-friendly flipped classroom. For this purpose, 45 pre-service teachers participated in the study and they completed both pre- and post-surveys including questions about Technology Adopter Category Index(TACI) and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge(TPACK). They were also asked to write self-reflections on mathematics softwares(Geometer's Sketch Pad(GSP), Geogebra, Cabri 3D). Results show that the teacher education program in the use of technology-friendly flipped classroom affected pre-service teachers' cognitions of TACI and TPACK, and they perceived that technology integration helped students' mathematics learning process. Findings from this study indicate that ideas about how to develop a technology-friendly teacher education program are more specified..

  • Geometry having long history of mathematics have important role for thinking power and creativity progress in middle school. The regular polygon included in plane geometry was mainly taught convex regular polygon in elementary school and middle school. In this study, we investigated the denotation's extension of regular polygon by mathematical basic knowledge included in school curriculum. For this research, first, school mathematical knowledge about regular polygon was analyzed. And then, basic direction of research was established for inquiry. Second, based on this analysis inductive inquiry activity was performed with research using geometry software(Cabri Geometry II). Through this study the development of enriched learning material and showing the direction of geometry research is expected.

Simulation of reactivity-initiated accident transients on UO2-M5® fuel rods with ALCYONE V1.4 fuel performance code

  • The ALCYONE multidimensional fuel performance code codeveloped by the CEA, EDF, and AREVA NP within the PLEIADES software environment models the behavior of fuel rods during irradiation in commercial pressurized water reactors (PWRs), power ramps in experimental reactors, or accidental conditions such as loss of coolant accidents or reactivity-initiated accidents (RIAs). As regards the latter case of transient in particular, ALCYONE is intended to predictively simulate the response of a fuel rod by taking account of mechanisms in a way that models the physics as closely as possible, encompassing all possible stages of the transient as well as various fuel/cladding material types and irradiation conditions of interest. On the way to complying with these objectives, ALCYONE development and validation shall include tests on $PWR-UO_2$ fuel rods with advanced claddings such as M5(R) under "low pressure-low temperature" or "high pressure-high temperature" water coolant conditions. This article first presents ALCYONE V1.4 RIA-related features and modeling. It especially focuses on recent developments dedicated on the one hand to nonsteady water heat and mass transport and on the other hand to the modeling of grain boundary cracking-induced fission gas release and swelling. This article then compares some simulations of RIA transients performed on $UO_2$-M5(R) fuel rods in flowing sodium or stagnant water coolant conditions to the relevant experimental results gained from tests performed in either the French CABRI or the Japanese NSRR nuclear transient reactor facilities. It shows in particular to what extent ALCYONE-starting from base irradiation conditions it itself computes-is currently able to handle both the first stage of the transient, namely the pellet-cladding mechanical interaction phase, and the second stage of the transient, should a boiling crisis occur. Areas of improvement are finally discussed with a view to simulating and analyzing further tests to be performed under prototypical PWR conditions within the CABRI International Program.
