Investigation of Physical Imaging Properties in Various Digital Radiography Systems (다양한 디지털 방사선 시스템의 물리적 영상 특성 조사)

  • We aimed to evaluate the physical imaging properties in various digital radiography systems with charged coupled device (CCD), computed radiography (CR), and indirect flat panel detector (FPD). The imaging properties measured in this study were modulation transfer function (MTF) wiener spectrum (WS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE) to compare the performance of each digital radiography system. The system response of CCD were in a linear relationship with exposure and that of CR and FPD were proportional to the logarithm of exposure. The MTF of both CR and FPD indicated a similar tendency but in case of CCD, it showed lower MTF than that of CR and FPD. FPD showed the lowest WS and also indicated the highest DQE among three systems. According to the results, digital radiography system with different type of image receptor had its own image characteristics. Therefore, it is important to know the physical imaging characteristics of the digital radiography system accurately to obtain proper image quality.

Evaluation of image quality for metal artifact using protocol parameters in the MRI (자기공명영상에서 프로토콜 변화를 이용한 금속인공물의 영상평가)

  • In the aging society, TKRA is steadily increased because of joint diseases. Artificial joint used in TKRA generates metal artifacts in the MRI. Metal artifact may affect diagnosis. In study, We are going to minimize the effect of metal artifact to improve the value of diagnosis by changing the sequence and the type of artificial joint(Co-Cr, Ni-Ti). 1.5T AVANTO, plastic containers and each of the artificial joint (Normal, Co-Cr, NiTi) were used. After the artificial joints fixed in a paper cup was inserted in a plastic container of cylindrical, Signal intensity was measured. To obtain strong and uniform signal intensity, the plastic container was filled with water. We changed Sequences(T1 TSE, T2 TSE, PD TSE) and obtained an Axial image. After excepting the maximum and minimum values, We calculated the average of SNR, CNR and PSNR. Consequently, The SNR, CNR value of PD TSE are measured higher than these of T1 TSE, T2 TSE and The PSNR of Co-Cr is higher than this of Ni-Ti. The SNR of Co-Cr is similar to the SNR of normal comparing this of Ni-Ti. As a result, Using sequence of PD Tse and Co-Cr alloy is considered to be useful.

Color Image and Preference of the Silk Fabrics Dyed of Extract from Pine Needle by Ethanol and Distilled Water (에탄올 및 증류수 추출에 의한 솔잎 염색 견직물의 색채 이미지 및 선호도)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color image of the natural-dyed silk fabrics. The dye was extracted from pine needle by boiling pine needle with ethanol at $78^{\circ}C$ for 3hours and distilled water at $100^{\circ}C$ for 2hours. The 100% silk fabric was dyed of extract in pH 5 at $90-100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. As mordants used were compounds of Al, Sn, Fe, and Cr, color image of pine-needle dyed silk fabrics was classified into 5 factors (pure, gentle, sophisticate, comfortable, pastorale) and the factor pure is most important one of those. Most cheerful image in pure factor was from the fabrics dyed with ethanol extract and then, none and Cr mordanting. Dignified image was from the fabrics dyed with ethanol extract and then, Cu or Fe mordanting. In production, products dyed with ethanol extracts was preferred to those dyed with distilled water extracts. Color image and preference of the silk fabrics dyed with pine needles extracted was affected by extraction solvents and mordants.

Geometric Region Reconstruction of Steel-tube Computed Radiography Using Nonlinear Structural Analysis (비선형 구도해석에 의한 강관 CR영상의 기하학적 영역복원)

  • The steel-tube is exposed to a radiation from X-ray source. The transmitted radiation is detected by a detector, usually film or more recently an imaging plate(IP) of Computed Radiography(CR). The detected radiation overlaps the region of both sides of the object. The radiographic images reflect the projections of the rays, passing twice through both external and internal tube material. Nonlinear distortion due to the radioactive transmission and geometric disposition also appears on images. In this paper, an analytical approach is presented to achieve image reconstruction from the steel-tube CR images. Parameters related to radiation and measuring structure, such as intensities, absorption in material and geometric specifications linked with the collimating components, are calculated and identified in order to construct the renoval images for twofold regions of circle-type steel tubes. A correction procedure for region recovery most similar to the true tube is designed. The application of this approach on CR images is shown and reconstructed results are discussed.

Colored Object Extraction using Fuzzy Neural Network (퍼지 신경회로망을 이용한 칼라 물체 추출)

  • This paper presents a method of colored object extraction from an image using the fuzzy neural network. Fuzzy neural network divides an image into two clusters. It extracts the prototypes of Cb and Cr of object and background by controlling the vigilance parameter. The proposed method extracted object regardless of the position, the size, and the intensity of object. We compared the performance of the proposed method with that of the method of using subjective threshold value. And, we compared the performance of the proposed method with that of the method of using subjective threshold value by using several images with added noises.

  • This paper proposes the use of decision tree classification for the measuring pattern recognition from industrial Computed Radiography(CR) images used in nondestructive evaluation(NDE) of steel-tubes. It appears that NDE problems are naturally desired to have machine learning techniques identify patterns and their classification. The attributes of decision tree are taken from NDE test procedure. Geometric features, such as radiative angle, gradient and distance, are estimated from the analysis of input image data. These factors are used to make it easy and accurate to classify an input object to one of the pre-specified classes on decision tree. This algerian is to simplify the characterization of NDE results and to facilitate the determination of features. The experimental results verify the usefulness of proposed algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a stereo image insertion technique on DCT coefficients using the embedded method developed in the digital watermarking in due consideration of compatibility with conventional 2D system such JPEG, and MPEG. In conventional transmission method users with conventional digital TV cannot watch the transmitted 3D image sequence as 2D image, because of affectivity of conventional 3D image compression. To give an answer, in this paper, DCT coefficients are changed according to its disparity on YCbCr channels. Our method can insert stereo images into a conventional image compression method based on DCT.

Calibration of CR-39 for Hadron Radiotherapy using 400 MeV/u C ions (400 MeV/u 탄소 이온에 대한 방사선치료 선량 측정용 고체비적검출기의 교정)

  • In this study, equivalent dose and LET (Linear Energy Transfer) calibration of CR-39 SSNTD (Solid State Nuclear Track Detector) were performed using 400 MeV/u C heavy ions in HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) for high LET radiation therapy. The irradiated CR-39 SSNDTs were etched according the etching condition of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). And the etched SSNTDs were analyzed by using Image J. Determined frequency mean dose (${\bar{y_D}}$)and dose-mean lineal energy (${\bar{y_F}}$)of 400 MeV/u C are about 8.5keV/mm and 10.1 keV/mm, respectively by using the CR-39 SSNTD. This value is very similar to the results calculated by GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation and measured with TEPC (Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter) active radiation detector. We could determine the equivalent dose and LET calibration factors of CR-39. And we confirmed that the CR-39 SSNTD was useful for high LET radiation dosimetry in hadron radiotherapy.

  • The creep life fraction can be evaluated by the degree of grain deformation since the grain of Cr-Mo base metal deforms in the direction of stress. The grain deformation method using image processing technique is developed for life assessment of in-service high-temperature components. The new assessment model of grain deformation method is presented to apply to in-service components and is verified by interrupted creep test for ex-serviced material of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel. The proposed model, which is irrespective of stress direction, is to evaluate mean of the absolute deviation for the measured ratios which are diametrical maximum to minimum dimensions for grains.

  • Small PACS based on a personal computer or CR has initially been designed to improve the performance of cost-effective PACS implementation. In that system, Wavelet compression scheme is newly adopted to store images hierarchically to storage unit, and retrieve and display images progressively or display workstation. In this compression method, image is decomposed into subclasses of image by wavelet transform, and then the subclasses of image are vector quantized using a multiresolution codebook.
