  • Environmental noise can degrade the performance of speech recognition system. This paper presents a procedure for performing cepstrum based feature compensation to make recognition system robust to noise. The approach is based on direct compensation of spectral tilt to remove effects of additive noise. The noise compensation scheme operates in the cepstral domain by means of calculating spectral tilt of the log power spectrum. Spectral compensation is applied in combination with SNR-dependent cepstral mean compensation. Experimental results, in the presence of white Gaussian noise, subway noise and car noise, show that the proposed compensation method achieves substantial improvements in recognition accuracy at various SNR's.

  • Of many approaches to reduce motion analysis errors, the compensation method of anatomical landmarks estimates the position of anatomical landmarks during motion. The method models the position of anatomical landmarks with joint angle or skin marker displacement using the data of the so-called dynamic calibration in which anatomical landmark positions are calibrated in ad hoc motions. Then the anatomical landmark positions are calibrated in target motions using the model. This study applies the compensation methods with joint angle and skin marker displacement to three lower extremity motions (walking, sit-to-stand/stand-to-sit, and step up/down) in ten healthy males and compares their performance. To compare the performance of the methods, two sets of kinematic variables were calculated using different two marker clusters, and the difference was obtained. Results showed that the compensation method with skin marker displacement had less differences by 30~60% compared to without compensation. And, it had significantly less difference in some kinematic variables (7 of 18) by 25~40% compared to the compensation method with joint angle. This study supports that compensation with skin marker displacement reduced the motion analysis STA errors more reliably than with joint angle in lower extremity motion analysis.

  • With a long crotch length and much ease in the hip area, baggy pants are visually expressed in a variety of designs when compared with regular pants. The purpose of this study is to define the image differences of various baggy pants designs according to hip circumference and crotch length ease. To that end, this study deduced the visual image variable of experimental baggy pants and analyzed visual images according to changes in hip circumference and crotch length. Nine baggy pants with different levels of hip circumference and crotch length ease were produced as experimental pants. The image of each pair of experimental baggy pants was evaluated based on pictures taken of the pants worn by a woman in her 20s with a standard body figure. The image assessment team was composed of 105 clothing majors. The research results are as follows. Four visual image factors of experimental baggy pants were extracted: whole body compensation, lower body compensation, hip compensation, and waist compensation. Among the 4 factors, the whole body compensation factor was shown as the most representative factor. The body compensation image was higher with less hip circumference ease in the experimental baggy pants, and more hip circumference ease created the optical illusion of a larger body figure, presenting a significant difference between waist circumference and hip circumference. The lower body compensation factor, hip compensation factor, and waist compensation factor all showed a significant influence on changes in hip circumference ease. This result shows that changes in hip circumference ease exerted more influence on the body compensation image than did changes in crotch length ease. The results of this study provide basic data for predicting visual images according to differences in the level of ease in baggy pants, helping people select clothing suitable to their preferences and body shapes.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel power factor compensation system using slidac. The proposed power factor compensation system compensates the power factor by adjusting the output voltage of the slidac. In the conventional power factor compensation system using capacitor bank method, the power factor compensation error occurs depending on the load condition due to the limitation of the compensation capacitor capacity. However, the proposed system can finely change slidac output voltage applied to the capacitor, therefore power factor can be compensated up to 100% without error. We compare the proposed system with the conventional system, and confirm that the proposed system has excellent power factor compensation performance through simulations and experiments. If the proposed power factor compensation system is applied to an industrial field, a power factor compensation performance can be maximized. As a result, it is possible to reduce of electricity prices, reduce of line loss, increase of load capacity, ensure the transmission margin capacity, and reduce the amount of power generation.

  • The compensation data for submerged land have been filed in the form of document or managed with spread sheet like Excell up to now. In the case of dam or highway construction, huge compensation data for the submerged or included land have been managed inefficiently by the administrative manpower. Moreover, where and how to keep the enormous data becomes big problems. In response to the requirements, an submerged land compensation management system based on the location and property information of parcels was developed. The compensation management system has many functions including site searching for compensation, compensation money computing, and compensation data managing. It is expected that the submerged land compensation management system creates various information effects.

  • The purpose of this study investigates the relation between corporate life cycle and management compensation. The analysis is performed by comparing the compensation level and pay-performance-sensitivity (PPS) at each life cycle based on Korean data from 2003 to 2014. The results show that regarding compensation level, mature stage has the highest mean value of compensation and compensation level drops after mature stage. In introduction stage, growth and decline stages, compensation is not sensitive to accounting performance. In a while, in mature stage, management compensation varies with accounting performance more significantly than stock performance. In additional analysis, the results indicate that the finding is not designated from growth opportunities and the relation differs when the firm is included in a conglomerate. These findings contribute to the literature by providing additional evidence to understand for compensation and the corporate life cycle studies.

  • Hair style allows consumers to express their aesthetic sense and individual beauty. However, due to the attributes of hairdressing services and the high expectations of consumers, complaints are increasing rapidly. This study examined the complaint behavior, compensation and hair salon patronage of consumers. Then, a model is presented that explains the complaint behavior for hairstyling, forms of compensation, and hair salon patronage through empirical analysis. This study was conducted by a survey method. A total of 399 questionnaires were used for the analysis. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 statistical software. The dimension of complaint behavior for hair style included verbal complaints, non-verbal complaints in the salon and private complaints outside the salon. The forms of compensation included re-procedure, psychological, and material compensation. Hair salon patronage was one-dimensional. These results were obtained through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Then the conceptual model was empirically analyzed by covariance structure analysis and obtained in final form through model modification. Verbal complaint behavior positively influenced re-procedure compensation. In addition, non-verbal complaint behavior had positive effects on psychological and material compensation. Hair salon patronage was positively affected by re-procedure and psychological compensation. However, private complaint behavior had a negative effect on hair salon patronage. The direct and indirect effects of the paths among variables were verified by analyzing the mediating effects of different forms of compensations. It is possible to establish differentiated marketing strategies with these findings for consumers with complaint behaviors by considering the forms of compensation.

  • In this paper, we present a radiation compensation method and experiment method for two-dimensional direction finding by elevation and azimuth angles of broadband GPS signal, and then produce experimental results. Previous studies have performed direction finding by only using the azimuth angle of the detected signal. So, the compensation table utilizes compensation data by azimuth angles only. However, the presented method in this study has compensation data by azimuth and elevation angles for two-dimensional direction finding. Because of direction finding systems and applications are diversified, recently. So, we present a two-dimensional radiation compensation method. For evaluation of the presented compensation method, we calculate the ideal phase differences on the antenna for two-dimensional direction finding and simulate phase differences using a FEKO EM simulator. Subsequently, we analyze experimental data by radiation compensation experiments using the presented compensation method in an anechoic chamber.

  • The switching frequency of a power device is a very important parameter in the design of a parallel active power filter (PAPF), but so far, very little discussion has been conducted on it in a quantitative manner in previous publications. In this paper, an extensive analysis on the effects of the switching frequency on the performance of a PAPF is made, and a specification of the switching frequency values with different compensation results is presented. A first-order inertia element and a second-order oscillation element are considered as approximate models of a PAPF, respectively. The compensation characteristic for each order of harmonic current is obtained at different switching frequencies. Then, the THDs of each model for the system loads of a rectifier with resistance and inductance loads are proposed. The compensation results of a PAPF controlled as a first-order inertia element are better than those of a PAPF controlled as a second-order oscillation element. With two types of system loads which are rectifier with resistance and inductance loads and rectifier with resistance, inductance and capacitance loads, the THDs of the source current after compensation are presented with different switching frequencies. The compensation characteristics for the most widely used digital control system are investigated. The situation with an analog control is the theoretical characteristic and it is the best situation. The compensation characteristic of the digital control is worse than the compensation characteristic of the theoretical characteristic. Based on these analyses, the specifications of compensation characteristics with different switching frequencies are quite straightforward. Finally, a practical design example is studied to verify the application.

  • According to the Statistics Korea in 2016, 56.9% of companies do not fairly pay compensation for employee invention, despite the increasing proportion of the inventions in corporations. One reason is that the objective calculation method for employee and patent's contribution and the clear standard of fair compensation have not been established. Therefore, this study proposes a new calculation method using DCF (Discounted cash flow) and AHP (Analytical hiearchy process) methodology to calculate the fair amount of employee invention compensation, and verified it through real case examples. As a result, 2.3 times higher amount of compensation was calculated than the previous approach. This study is meaningful that it provided objective compensation criteria that could more protect the inventor in the situation which the clear criteria for the calculation of fair compensation are not established. This methodology is expected to be applicable for SMEs as employee invention compensation.
