Coupled porous curved beams, due to their low weight and high flexibility, have many applications in engineering. This study investigates the vibration behavior of coupled porous curved beams in different boundary conditions. The system consists of two curved beams connected by a mid-layer of elastic springs. These beams are made of various materials, such as homogenous steel foam, and composite materials with PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) and SWCNT (single-walled carbon nanotube) used as the matrix and nanofillers, respectively. To obtain equivalent material properties, the role of mixture (RoM) was employed, followed by the implementation of the porosity function. The system's governing equations were obtained by employing FSDT and Hamilton's law. To investigate thermal vibration, temperature was implemented as a load in the governing equations. The GDQ method was used to solve these equations. To demonstrate the applicability of the GDQ method in calculating the frequencies of the system and the correctness of the developed program, a validation study was conducted. After validation, numerous examples were presented to investigate the behavior of single and coupled curved beams in various material properties and boundary conditions. The results indicate that the frequencies of the curved beams and the system depend highly on the amount of porosity (n) and the distribution pattern. The system frequencies decreased with an increase in the porosity coefficient. The stiffness of the springs had no effect on the first mode frequency but increased frequencies of other modes in a specific range. The frequencies of the system decreased with an increase in environmental temperature.

While melting glaciers due to global warming have facilitated the development of polar routes, Arctic vessels require reliable anti-icing methods to prevent hull icing. Currently, the existing anti-icing method, i.e., the heating coil method, has disadvantages, such as disconnection and power inefficiency. Therefore, a carbon nanotube-based surface heating element method was developed to address these limitations. In this study, the numerical analysis of the surface heating element method was performed using ANSYS. The numerical analysis included conjugate heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics to consider the conduction solids and the effects of wind speed and temperature in cold environments. The numerical analysis method of the surface heating element method was validated by comparing the experimental results of the heating coil method with the numerical analysis results (under the -30 ℃ conditions). The surface heating element method demonstrated significantly higher efficiency, ranging from 56.65-80.17%, depending on the conditions compared to the heating coil method. Moreover, even under extreme environmental conditions (-45 ℃), the surface heating element method satisfied anti-icing requirements. The surface heating element method is more efficient and economical than the heating coil method. However, proper heat flux calculation for environmental conditions is required to prevent excessive design.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the free vibration behavior of the micro sandwich beam composing of five layers such as functionally graded (FG) porous core, nanocomposite reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and piezomagnetic/piezoelectric layers subjected to magneto electrical potential resting on silica aerogel foundation. The effect of foundation has been taken into account using Vlasov model in addition to rigid base assumption. For this purpose, an iterative technique is applied. The material properties of the FG porous core and FG nanocomposite layers are considered to vary throughout the thickness direction of the beams. Based on the Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion for the micro sandwich beam are obtained. The Navier's type solution is utilized to obtain analytical solutions to simply supported micro sandwich beam. Results are verified with corresponding literatures. In the following, a study is carried out to find the effects of the porosity coefficient, porous distribution, volume fraction of CNT, the thickness of silica aerogel foundation, temperature and moisture, geometric parameters, electric and magnetic potentials on the vibration of the micro sandwich beam. The results are helpful for the design and applications of micro magneto electro mechanical systems.
Stretchable and flexible electronics that comply with dynamic movements and micromotion of the human tissues can enable real-time monitoring of physiologic signals onto the human skin and in the brain, respectively. Especially, gallium based liquid metal stretchable electronics can offer human-interactive biosensors to monitor various physiologic parameters. However, the liquid-like nature, surface oxidation and contamination by organic materials, and low biostability of the liquid metals have still limited the long-term use as bioelectronics. Here we introduced electrochemical deposition without oxidation pathways to overcome these practical challenges in liquid metal bioelectronics. CNT/PDDA composite with reduction way and PEDOT:BF4 with oxidation way under organic solvent are suggested as rationally designed material engineering approaches. We confirmed that the structures with the soft, flexible, and stretchable liquid metal platform can successfully detect dopamine with a high sensitivity and selectivity, record neural signals including action potentials without scar formation, and monitor physiologic signals such as EMG and ECG.
This article investigates the free vibration behavior of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams embedded using variational analytical methods and artificial neural networks (ANN). The material properties of layered functionally graded CNTRC (FG-CNTRC) beams are estimated using nonlocal parameters modified power-law with different types of CNT distributions through the thickness direction of the beam. Adopting Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory to capture the small size effects, the nonlocal governing equations are derived and solved using the analytical method. And also, the problem was analyzed using the ANN method. The architecture of the proposed ANN model is 3-9-1. In the experiments, we used 112 different data to predict the natural frequency using ANN. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion as well as the boundary conditions of the beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The classical beam theory is used to formulate a governing equation for predicting the free vibration of laminated CNTRC beams. According to the experimental results, the prediction ability of the ANN model is very good and the natural frequency can be predicted in ANN without attempting any experiments.

This article develops a nonclassical size dependent nanoplate model to study the dynamic response of functionally graded carbon nanotube (FGCNT) nanoplates under a moving load. Both nonlocal and microstructure effects are incorporated through the nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory. To investigate the effect of reinforcement orientation of CNT, four different configurations are studied and analysed. The FGM gradation thorough the thickness direction is simulated using the power law. In the context of the first order shear deformation theory, the dynamic equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions are derived by Hamilton's principle. An analytical solution of the dynamic equations of motion is derived based on the Navier methodology. The proposed model is verified and compared with the available results in the literature and good agreement is found. The numerical results show that the dynamic performance of FGCNT nanoplates could be governed by the reinforcement pattern and volume fraction in addition to the non-classical parameters and the moving load dimensionless parameter. Obtained results are reassuring in design and analysis of nanoplates reinforced with CNTs.

The objective of this paper is to present free vibration and static stability analyses of rotating composite beams reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) under uniform thermal loads. Beam structural equations and CNT-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam formulations are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory (TBT). The temperature-dependent properties of the beam material, such as the elastic modulus, shear modulus, and material density, are assumed to vary over the thickness according to the rule of mixture. The beam material is modeled as a mixture of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in an isotropic matrix. The SWCNTs are aligned and distributed in the isotropic matrix with different patterns of reinforcement, namely the UD (uniform), FG-O, FG-V, FG- Λ and FG-X distributions, where FG-V and FG- Λ are asymmetric patterns. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effects of several essential parameters, including the rotational speed, hub radius, effective material properties, slenderness ratio, boundary conditions, thermal force, and moments due to temperature variation. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study represents the first attempt at the finite element modeling of rotating CNTRC Timoshenko beams under a thermal environment. The results are presented in tables and figures for both symmetric and asymmetric distribution patterns, and can be used as benchmarks for further validation.
This talk will begin with the demonstration of facile synthesis of silicon nanostructures using the magnesiothermic reduction on silica nanostructures prepared via self-assembly, which will be followed by the characterization results of their performance for energy storage. This talk will also report the fabrication and characterization of highly porous, stretchable, and conductive polymer nanocomposites embedded with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for application in flexible lithium-ion batteries. It will be presented that the porous CNT-embedded PDMS nanocomposites are capable of good electrochemical performance with mechanical flexibility, suggesting these nanocomposites could be outstanding anode candidates for use in flexible lithium-ion batteries. Directed self-assembly (DSA) of block copolymers (BCPs) can generate uniform and periodic patterns within guiding templates, and has been one of the promising nanofabrication methodologies for resolving the resolution limit of optical lithography. BCP self-assembly processing is scalable and of low cost, and is well-suited for integration with existing semiconductor manufacturing techniques. This talk will introduce recent research results (of my research group) on the self-assembly of Si-containing block copolymers for the achievement of sub-10 nm resolution, fast pattern generation, transfer-printing capability onto nonplanar substrates, and device applications for nonvolatile memories. An extraordinarily facile nanofabrication approach that enables sub-10 nm resolutions through the synergic combination of nanotransfer printing (nTP) and DSA of block copolymers is also introduced. This simple printing method can be applied on oxides, metals, polymers, and non-planar substrates without pretreatments. This talk will also report the direct formation of ordered memristor nanostructures on metal and graphene electrodes by the self-assembly of Si-containing BCPs. This approach offers a practical pathway to fabricate high-density resistive memory devices without using high-cost lithography and pattern-transfer processes. Finally, this talk will present a novel approach that can relieve the power consumption issue of phase-change memories by incorporating a thin $SiO_x$ layer formed by BCP self-assembly, which locally blocks the contact between a heater electrode and a phase-change material and reduces the phase-change volume. The writing current decreases by 5 times (corresponding to a power reduction of 1/20) as the occupying area fraction of $SiO_x$ nanostructures varies.
This paper, presents the dynamic and stability analysis of the simply supported single walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNT) reinforced concrete beam on elastic-foundation using an integral first-order shear deformation beam theory. The condition of the zero shear-stress on the free surfaces of the beam is ensured by the introduction of the shear correction factors. The SWCNT reinforcement is considered to be uniform and variable according to the X, O and V forms through the thickness of the concrete beam. The effective properties of the reinforced concrete beam are calculated by employing the rule of mixture. The analytical solutions of the buckling and free vibrational behaviors are derived via Hamilton's principle and Navier method. The analytical results of the critical buckling loads and frequency parameters of the SWCNT-RC beam are presented in the form of explicit tables and graphs. Also the diverse parameters influencing the dynamic and stability behaviors of the reinforced concrete beam are discussed in detail.
This study investigated the effects of ball mill operation condition on the morphology of raw powders in the dry-type milling process using three types of ball mills traditional ball mill, stirred ball mill and planetary ball mill. Furthermore, since spherical powders offer the best combination of high hardness and high density, the optimum milling condition to produce sphere-shaped powders was studied. The applied rotation speed ranged from 200rpm (low rotation speed) to 700rpm (high rotation speed). The used ball size ranged from 1mm to 5mm. The metal powder morphology was studied using SEM, XRD and PSA. The aimed spherical powders could be obtained under the optimum experimental conditions: traditional ball mill(200rpm, 1mm ball), planetary ball mill (500rpm, 1mm ball) and also planetary ball mill (700rpm, 1 and 3 mm ball). The results show to the development of new material using spherical type copper powder/CNT composites for air-craft and automotive applications.
