Clipping is a simple and convenient PAPR reduction method to prevent the high-speed OFDM communication system from the nonlinear distortion. However, it inherently produces clip noise so that BER performance can be degraded. Clipping noise can be divided into in-band and out-of-band clipping noise. In this paper, we study the clipping effect on the forward link of the OFDM-FDMA system. BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system using clipping method is theoretically analyzed. We also investigate the BER performance of the clipped OFDM-FDMA signal through the HPA. From the simulation results it can be quantified how much the BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system is degraded by the clipping method. From the study results, we can choose the appropriate IBO value and CR(clip ratio) to get the desired BER performance.
Temporary occlusion of the parent artery or feeding artery is an useful method in microsurgery for cerebrovascular diseases. The advantages of the temporary clipping for intracranial aneurysm surgery have already been proven by many experimental and clinical reports. Currently, there are two methods of temporary clipping: 1) intermittent clipping, 2) continuous clipping. In many previous studies, the intermittent, repeated clipping technique was reported to reduce ischemic damage to the brain, but it is still debated. On the other hand, a comparison of the histological changes on the arterial wall between each clipping method has not been sufficiently reported yet. So the authors performed experimental temporary clipping on the common carotid and femoral arteries of about 25 rats using the Sugita temporary mini-clip. The specimens were divided into two major groups and seven subgroups: Group I (I-1, I-2, I-3, I-4, intermittent clippings for 5 minutes were done once, twice, three times, and few times), and Group C (C-10, C-15, C-20, continuous clippings for 10, 15, 20 minutes, respectively). The reperfusion time after the temporary clipping was the same as the clipping duration. Under light microscope, the histological findings by Hematoxylin-Eosin staining were examined in all specimens, which were obtained at each time interval after temporary clipping. Then the histological changes of the arterial walls by two different methods were compared with the normal specimen. The results suggest that intermittent temporary clipping is less damaging on the arterial wall than single continuous clipping.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) technique has drawn significant interests in recent years. However, most of the existing OFDM peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) reduction schemes cannot be used in the OFDM-OQAM system directly. In this paper, a modified scheme called overlapped segmental clipping (OS-clipping) is proposed to deal with the high PAPR problem specifically in the OFDM-OQAM system. For the proposed OS-clipping scheme, the input signals are divided into a number of overlapped segments and then the clipping operation is processed on each segment. Simulation results show that the modified scheme used in the OFDM-OQAM system can provide better performance than conventional clipping scheme directly used in the OFDM-OQAM system, and even outperforms conventional clipping scheme applied in the OFDM system.
Operative clipping after previous endovascular coiling in an aneurysm is a different problem from primary clipping procedure for neurosurgeons. With the increasing use of coil embolization, neurosurgeons will more and more face the similar situation. We report surgical clipping cases of intracranial aneurysm regrown after endovascular coiling. Three patients with a history of subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured aneurysm underwent endovascular treatment (EVT) with detachable coils. The aneurysms were in the posterior communicating artery, the middle cerebral artery and distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA). Two near-total occlusions and one partial occlusion were achieved by EVT. After several months, angiographic follow-up revealed regrowth of the aneurysm requiring surgical clipping. Here, we report three cases in which surgical clipping was more difficult than a usual clipping procedure performed several months after EVT, because of adhesion and coil bulging into the aneurysmal neck. The difficulty of the treatment of the residual aneurysm after coiling is discussed, as are the surgical complications and limitations of clipping.
The binary clipping PW/CDMA system is considered. This system can be constructed with effective cost. leading to reduce the influence of the non-linear amplifier because of converting multi-level signals into constant envelope signals. In addition, the clipping method which is to clip out signal amplitude at some level when multi-level signals are converted into constant envelope signals is used. The multi-level signals are clipped at 1 and -1 to limit the extension of bandwidth and to maintain the bandwidth after clipping. In this paper, the performance of the binary clipping PW/CDMA system with the non-linear amplifier analyzed by simulation over AWGN and flat fading channels respectively. The binary clipping PW/CDMA system with the non-linear amplifier is 2.2dB and 0.9dB better than conventional DS/CDMA system over the flat fading channels when the number of users are 9 and 17 respectively.
MPEG Surround has a potential clipping problem since its encoding is based on downmixing a multichannel signal. We propose a clipping prevention scheme for MPEG Surround, which is composed of modification and recovery processes of a downmix signal with recovery information conveyed in arbitrary downmix gains of an MPEG Surround bitstream. Experiments show that the proposed scheme effectively prevents sound quality degradation caused by clipping problems with negligible additional bit rates.
In this paper, we propose adaptive despreading receiver for multi-code PW-CDMA system with binary-level clipping. The distortion due to clipping the multi-level signal causes the performance degradation. Adaptive despreading alleviates the effect of clipping. It is shown that the proposed adaptive despreading receiver achieves smaller BER than conventional despreading receiver for multi-code PW-CDMA system with binary-level clipping.

Recently many communication systems ate adapting the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) for multimedia data services. However, OFDM has some problems that PAPR is increased when sub-carries are summed up with same phases. This problem causes severe signal distortions while the signal is passing through non-linear system such as power amplifier resulting in performance degradation of transmission system. In this paper, we use IF-Clipping method to solve PAPR problem and the signal distortion caused by clipping is limited by use of SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filter and power amplifier(TWTA). And we derive the optimal parameter(PAPR, Backoff) values to meet the spectrum mask of WiBro system.
This study was carried out to examine the effect of nitrogen application and clipping interval on the characteristics of several turf components of korean lawngrass for the basic data of lawn management. It was treated by Split plot design with three replications. The main plots were nitrogen levels with 0, 350, and 700kgN / ha, and the sub plots were clipping intervals with 10, 20, and 30 days The results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1. Increasing the rate of nitrogen fertilizer and frequent clipping increased tiller number of korean lawngrass and the maximum number of tillers obtained in October were recorded from 700kgN application and clipping treatment of 10 days interval. Meanwhile, treatment of 350kgN with 10 days clipping interval increased tillers much more than those of 700kgN with 20 and 30 days clipping intervals. 2. The average number of green leaves occurred during the growth period maximized by applying 700 kgN and clipping 10 days interval. 3. Increasing tiller numbers significantly decreased tops DM weight per tiller by clippng plants at interval of 10 and 20 days, irrespective of nitrogen applied, and with nil N, at the interval of 30 days. By applying 700kgN however, tops DM weight per tiller increased as the number of tillers increased consistently. 4. The highest tops DM weight was achieved from late August to early September by applying 350 and 700kgN. 5. During the growth period, nitrogen application increased unders(stolon+root) DM weight, and, at the same level of nitrogen applied, the increase in stolon DM weight enhanced by lengthening the clipping interval to 30 days. 6. Nitrogen efficiency to green leaves, stolon nodes and DM weight of root with high nitrogen was achieved as clipping interval was shortened.
In this paper, we propose a method for performance enhancement of speech declipping using clipping detector. Clipping occurs when the input speech level exceeds the dynamic range of microphone, and it significantly degrades the speech quality. Recently, many methods for high-performance speech declipping based on machine learning have been developed. However, they often deteriorate the speech signal because of degradation in signal reconstruction process when the degree of clipping is not high. To solve this problem, we propose a new approach that combines the declipping network and clipping detector, which enables a selective declipping operation depending on the clipping level and provides high-quality speech in all clipping levels. We measured the declipping performance using various metrics and confirmed that the proposed method improves the average performance over all clipping levels, compared with the conventional methods, and greatly improves the performance when the clipping distortion is small.
