  • Data are an expression of the language or numerical values that show some features. And the information is extracted from data for the specific purposes. The knowledge is utilized as information to construct rules that recognize patterns or make a decision. Today, knowledge extraction and application of that are broadly accomplished for the easy comprehension and the performance improvement of systems in the several industrial fields. The knowledge extraction can be achieved by some steps that include the knowledge acquisition, expression, and implementation. Such extracted knowledge is drawn by rules with data mining techniques. Clustering (CL), input space partition (ISP), neuro-fuzzy (NF), neural network (NN), extension matrix (EM), etc. are employed for the knowledge expression based upon rules. In this paper, the various approaches of the knowledge extraction are surveyed and categorized by methodologies and applied industrial fields. Also, the trend and examples of each approaches are shown in the tables and graphes using the categories such as CL, ISP, NF, NN, EM, and so on.

Design Parameters of Riverbed Filtration Estimated from Geochemical Data (지구화학적 해석을 이용한 하상여과 설계인자에 대한 연구)

  • This study investigates the design parameters for riverbed filtration (RBF) based on the geochemistry of river water and groundwater. The study area consists of alluvium, and the area is readily affected by non-point sources of chemical contaminants in the surface environment; this is expected to affect the design parameters for RBF. River and groundwater samples were collected at three points along the river flow and at nine points along a transect normal to the river, respectively. The geochemical data indicate that the sources of individual chemical contaminants are industrial facilities and agricultural activity near the study area. In addition, The samples are mainly Ca-Na-$HCO_3$, Ca-Cl, and Ca-$HCO_3$-Cl type waters. The design parameters of RBF in the study area should consider K, $HCO_3$, $NO_3$, and Cl. We divided the study area into three regions based on the concentrations of stable nitrogen isotopes: Region A, the origin of the river and denitrification; Region B, denitrification in the flow direction of tributaries; and Region C, the origin of natural soil, sewage, and anthropogenic pollution.

Hydrothermal Au-Ag Mineralization of the Oknam Mine in the Northern Sobaegsan Massif (북부 소백산 육괴 지역에 부존하는 옥남 광산의 열수 금-은 광화작용)

  • The Au-Ag deposit of the Oknam mine occurs as gold-silver-bearing rhodochrosite veins in biotite schist and phyllite of the Precambriam Yulri Group. Five stages of ore deposition are recognized, each showing a definite mineral assemblage. General mineral parageneses in veins (stage III) associated with gold and silver vary inwardly from the vein margin: arsenopyrite + pyrite $\Rightarrow$ sphalerite+chalcopyrite+galena+gold $\Rightarrow$ ga1ena+Ag-bearing minerals. Fluid inclusion data indicate that temperature and salinity of ore fluids overally decreased with time: $345^{\circ}{\sim}240^{\circ}C$ and 3.4~7.8 wt. % NaCl equiv during stage I (quartz vein mineralization), $313^{\circ}{\sim}207^{\circ}C$ and 2.3~8.7 wt.% NaCl equiv during manganese-bearing carbonate stages (II and III), and $328^{\circ}{\sim}213^{\circ}C$ and 3.6-5.4 wt.% NaCl equiv during stage IV (quartz vein mineralization). The ore fluids probably evolved through repeated pulses of boiling and later mixing with cooler and more dilute meteoric waters. Fluid inclusion data and geologic arguments indicate that pressures during the mineralization were in the range of 90 to 340 bars. Gold occurs as silver-rich electrums (21 to 29 atom. % Au) and was deposited at temperatures between $300^{\circ}$ and $240^{\circ}C$. Thermochemical calculations suggest that gold was deposited as a combined result of increase in pH and decreases in temperature, $fs_2$ and $fo_2$.

Acceleration Method for Integral Imaging Generation of Volume Data based on CUDA (CUDA를 기반한 볼륨데이터의 집적영상 생성을 위한 고속화 기법)

  • Recently, with the advent of stereoscopic 3D TV, the activation of 3D stereoscopic content is expected. Research on 3D auto stereoscopic display has been carried out to relieve discomfort of 3D stereoscopic display. In this research, it is necessary to generate the elemental image from a lens array. As the number of lens in a lens array is increased, it takes a lot of time to generate the elemental image, and it will take more time for a large volume data. In order to improve the problem, in this paper, we propose a method to generate the elemental image by using OpenCL based on CUDA. We perform our proposed method on PC environment with one of Tesla C1060, Geforce 9800GT and Quadro FX 3800 graphics cards. Experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain almost 20 times better performance than recent research result[11].

Application of Bootstrap and Bayesian Methods for Estimating Confidence Intervals on Biological Reference Points in Fisheries Management (부트스트랩과 베이지안 방법으로 추정한 수산자원관리에서의 생물학적 기준점의 신뢰구간)

  • To evaluate uncertainty and risk in biological reference points, we applied a bootstrapping method and a Bayesian procedure to estimate the related confidence intervals. Here we provide an example of the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of turban shell, Batillus cornutus, estimated by the Schaefer and Fox models. Fitting the time series of catch and effort from 1968 to 2006 showed that the Fox model performs better than the Schaefer model. The estimated MSY and its bootstrap percentile confidence interval (CI) at ${\alpha}=0.05$ were 1,680 (1,420-1,950) tons for the Fox model and 2,170 (1,860-2,500) tons for the Schaefer model. The CIs estimated by the Bayesian approach gave similar ranges: 1,710 (1,450-2,000) tons for the Fox model and 2,230 (1,760-2,930) tons for the Schaefer model. Because uncertainty in effort and catch data is believed to be greater for earlier years, we evaluated the influence of sequentially excluding old data points by varying the first year of the time series from 1968 to 1992 to run 'backward' bootstrap resampling. The results showed that the means and upper 2.5% confidence limit (CL) of MSY varied greatly depending on the first year chosen whereas the lower 2.5% CL was robust against the arbitrary selection of data, especially for the Schaefer model. We demonstrated that the bootstrap and Bayesian approach could be useful in precautionary fisheries management, and we advise that the lower 2.5% CL derived by the Fox model is robust and a better biological reference point for the turban shells of Jeju Island.

Parallel Processing Method for Generating Elemental Images from Hexagonal Lens Array (육각형 렌즈 어레이로부터 요소영상을 생성하기 위한 병렬 처리 기법)

  • According that most integral imaging techniques have used rectangular lens array, this integrated distribution of light is recorded in the form of a rectangular grid. However, hexagonal lens array gives a more accurate approximation of ideal circular lens and provides higher pickup/display density than rectangular lens array[4]. Using the parallel processing technique in order to generate the elemental imaging for hexagonal lens array, each pixel that compose the elemental imaging should be determined to belong to the hexagonal lens. This process is output to the screen for every pixel in progress, and many computations are required. In this paper, we have proposed parallel processing method using an OpenCL to generate the elemental imaging for hexagonal lens array in 3D volume date. In the experimental result of proposed method show speed of 20~60 fps for hexagonal lens array of $20{\times}20$ sizes and input data of Male[$128{\times}256{\times}256$] volume data.

The characteristics of AlW thin film for TFT-LCD bus line (TFT-LCD bus line을 위한 Al-W 박막 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The structural, electrical and chemical characteristics of Al alloy thin film with low impurity concentrations AlW deposited by using dc magnetron sputtering deposition are investigated for the applications as data bus line in the TFT-LCD panel. The deposited thin films show the decrease of resistivity and the increase of grain size after the RTA at $300^{\circ}C$ for 20 min.. Moreover, the resistivity of AlW does not show appreciable grain size dependence after RTA. It is concluded that the decrease of resistivity after RTA is due to the increase of grain size. The annealed AlW is found to be hillock free. And for investigating chemical attack in TFT-LCD etching processing the electric potential of AlW alloy for Ag/AgCl were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. When W wt.% of AlW alloy was higher than about 3%, the electric potential of AlW was more positive than ITO's. Therefore AlW alloy thin film can be propose to use for data bus line.

Environmental Characteristics of Groundwater for Sedimetary Rocks in Daegu City (대구시 퇴적암 분포 지역의 지하수에 대한 환경지화학적 특성)

  • Geochemical characteristics of groundwater in the different kinds of various lithology such as Haman formation, Panyaweol formation, Jusan andesitic formation and Palgongsan granite is distinguished by mineralogical and chemical compositions. The Concentration of the majority of solutes in groundwaters of Haman and Panyaweol formation is higher than in that of andesite and granite. Higher concentration of $HCO_3^{-}{\;}and{\;}SO_4^{2-}$ anions in the groundwater is peculiar. High concentrations of $Ca^{2+},{\;}Mg^{2+},{\;}HCO_3^{-}$ in the groundwaters of the sedimentary rocks result mainly from reaction of $CO^{2-}$ charged water with calcite and weathered feldspars. With the Piper diagram, the groundwaters of Haman formations are mainly plotted in $CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ type, whereas those of Panyaweol formations are plotted in the bothside of $Ca(HCO_3)_2{\;}and{\;}CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ type. Thses two different types of $Ca(HCO_3)_2{\;}and{\;}CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ groundwater were originated from dissolution of calcite($Ca(HCO_3)_2)$ and the oxidation of pyrite($CaSO_4-CaCl_2$), respectively. And it also is influenced by anthropogenic contamination. Three factors were extracted from the factor analysis for chemical data. Factor 1, controlled by $SO_4^{2-},{\;}Na^{+},{\;}Ca^{2+}$ and Fe, explains the dissolution of calcite, plagioclase and oxidation of pyrite. Factor 2, controlled by $HCO_3^{-}{\;}and{\;}Mg^{2+}$, mainly explains the dissolution of Mg-carbonates and dolomitization. Factor 3, controlled by $Cl^{-},{\;}K^{+}{\;}and{\;}NO_3^{-}$, is subject to the influence of artificial pollution including industrial waste water disposal. In this study area, some industrial complex which is close to Keumho river show the higher score of factor 3.

Effect of Salt Concentration on the Aerobic Biodegradability of Sea Food Wastewater (수산물 가공폐수의 호기성 생분해도에 미치는 염분농도의 영향)

  • The study was performed to evaluate the effects of chloride concentrations on the ultimate aerobic biodegradability and to use the result as the fundamental data for sea food wastewater treatment. When the organic removal efficiency by chloride concentrations (1,400~18,000 mg/L) was evaluated, microbes adapted to the saline at ${\leq}$ 6,000 mg/L of chloride but treatment efficiency was not improved at ${\geq}$ 12,000 mg/L of chloride because of delayed reaction time. Functional coefficient $Y_I$ of non-biodegradable soluble organic and inert material production coefficient Yp by microbe metabolism increased as chloride concentrations increased. Soluble organic matter ratio by chloride concentration (0~18,000 mg/L) was 10.8~13.1%, inert material production efficiency by microbes metabolism was evaluated as 7.0~24.6%. $NH_3$-N removal efficiencies were 96.2, 96.5, 90.2 and 90.3% using original wastewater HRT 18 hr, 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 22 hr, 12,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 30 hr, and 18,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 45 hr, respectively. Nitrification process was more sensitive to salt concentration than organic matter removal to salt concentration. Under ${\geq}$ 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration, conversion rate from $NO_s$-N to $NO_2$-N was low.

Probabilistic Models to Predict the Growth Initiation Time for Pseudomonas spp. in Processed Meats Formulated with NaCl and NaNO2

  • This study developed probabilistic models to determine the initiation time of growth of Pseudomonas spp. in combinations with $NaNO_2$ and NaCl concentrations during storage at different temperatures. The combination of 8 NaCl concentrations (0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75%) and 9 $NaNO_2$ concentrations (0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, and 120 ppm) were prepared in a nutrient broth. The medium was placed in the wells of 96-well microtiter plates, followed by inoculation of a five-strain mixture of Pseudomonas in each well. All microtiter plates were incubated at 4, 7, 10, 12, and $15^{\circ}C$ for 528, 504, 504, 360 and 144 h, respectively. Growth (growth initiation; GI) or no growth was then determined by turbidity every 24 h. These growth response data were analyzed by a logistic regression to produce growth/no growth interface of Pseudomonas spp. and to calculate GI time. NaCl and $NaNO_2$ were significantly effective (p<0.05) on inhibiting Pseudomonas spp. growth when stored at $4-12^{\circ}C$. The developed model showed that at lower NaCl concentration, higher $NaNO_2$ level was required to inhibit Pseudomonas growth at $4-12^{\circ}C$. However, at $15^{\circ}C$, there was no significant effect of NaCl and $NaNO_2$. The model overestimated GI times by $58.2{\pm}17.5$ to $79.4{\pm}11%$. These results indicate that the probabilistic models developed in this study should be useful in calculating the GI times of Pseudomonas spp. in combination with NaCl and $NaNO_2$ concentrations, considering the over-prediction percentage.
