  • Objectives This study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis. Methods We searched th following 10 online databases without a language restriction (National Digital Science Library [NDSL], Research Information Sharing Service [RISS], Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System [OASIS], KMBASE, MEDLINE/PubMed, Cochrane library, Ebscohost, EMBASE, Ovid, China National Knowledge Infrastru [CNKI]) to find randomized controlled trials that used Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis. The methodological quality of each randomized controlled clinical trial was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool and meta-analyses were perfomed. Results Eleven randomized controlled trials were included. Chuna therapy showed statistically significant reduction of symptoms. Meta-analysis showed positive results for Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis in terms of therapeutic effects to traction, chinese medicine, therapeutic exercise. Conclusion In this study, we reviewed studies about Chuna therapy used for spondylolisthesis. The studies showed that Chuna therapy can significantly effective on spondylolisthesis. But according to Cochrane risk of bias evaluation method, most of the studies's risk of bias were unclear. Therefore, more high-quality studies will be needed.

  • Objectives This case study aimed to investigate the effect of complex Korean medicine therapy and fascia Chuna therapy on Osgood-Schlatter disease. Methods Hospitalization treatment was performed on a 13-year-old Osgood-Schlatter patient who visited Woosuk University Korean Medicine Hospital. The patient complained of pain in both the tibial tuberosity and restriction on the range of knee joint movement. The results were evaluated using the visual analogue scale, knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score, and range of motion. Results After treatment, knee pain decreased and range of movement angle improved. Conclusions This study suggests that complex Korean medicine therapy, including myofascial Chuna therapy, are effective in improving the range of motion and improving pain in early Osgood-Schlatter disease. The limitation of this study is that the subject of the study was limited to one case. Further clinical studies are required.

  • Objectives To investigate the effectiveness of manual therapy for neck pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods We searched six electronic databases (OASIS, KISS, RISS, NDSL, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library) to gather randomized controlled trials using the keywords 'manual theray OR chuna OR tuina' and 'whiplash injury OR neck sprain'. Results Eight RCTs were selected based on the inclusion criteria. Four studies were meta-analyses. The systematic review found a positive effect of manual therapy for whiplash injury. All studies showed a high risk of performance bias. Conclusions The systematic review reported favorable results using manual therapy for neck pain caused by traffic accidents. However, this study has several limitations owing to the high risk of bias. Further clinical studies and the development of a study design are required for stronger evidence.

  • Objectives : The present study examines indications and treatment techniques of Chuna manual therapy. Methods : We searched the clinical studies on Chuna manual therapy through 5 korean web databases, 2 journals.(key word 'chuna') After selecting appropriate clinical studies(Bongchuna, massage, side effect, contraindication are excepted), we analyzed them according to diseases, Chuna techniques, type of clinical trials. Results : 101 studies are selected and analyzed. They studied about cervical(26%), thoracic(12%), lumbar (29%)spinal disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders(4%), pelvic region disorders(4%), upper(6%), lower extremity(5%) disorders and other diseases(15%). Spinal disorders are studied frequently. Mild techniques like supine position both hand cervical spine flexion distraction, JS supine position cervical spine distraction, flexion distraction technique are used more frequently than adjustment by thrust. Conclusions : We have to enhance education and training about techniques that are frequently used and studied. Research and improvement of infrequently used techniques are needed. In-depth research about side effects and contraindication is needed. Highquality clinical research and systematic review should be needed to prove the therapeutic effect of Chuna treatment.

  • To evaluate the effects of Korean medicine and Chuna treatment on patient with pain and limited range of motion (ROM) after scapular fracture. Patient was treated with Chuna manual therapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacoacpuncture, cupping therapy and measured by ROM, visual analog scale (VAS), shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI), American shoulder elbow surgery scale (ASES), Korean shoulder score for instability (KSS). After the 3 weeks treatment, the patient's ROM, VAS, SPADI, ASES, KSS scores were improved. Rehabilitation program including Chuna manual therapy can be effectively used to improve scapular fracture patient's pain and symptom during rehabilitation period. Therefore it is recommended to use Chuna manual therapy for the improvement of movement and pain from fracture.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to report the improvements in pain that a woman experienced after receiving Korean medicine treatments for the pain associated with core decompression surgery due to avascular necrosis (AVN) of both femur heads. Methods : The patient was diagnosed as having AVN in both femur heads and underwent core decompression surgery. After operation, she had pain on her right inguinal region and her range of motion (ROM) was restricted. She was treated with Korean medicine including, herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chuna Manual Therapy and bee venom acupuncture (BV). This study was measured by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the ROM scale. Results : After conservative treatment, the patient's pain was reduced and ROM was increased. Daily living quality had improved. Conclusions : In this case, Korean conservative medicine therapy with Chuna Manual Therapy had a positive effect on the symptoms after core decompression surgery due to avascular necrosis of the femur head.

  • Objectives: To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) for chronic gastritis (CG). Methods: We searched twelve English, Chinese and Korean databases using relevant keywords up to September 2017. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CMT for CG were considered for inclusion. The methodological quality of included RCTs was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results: Seven RCTs with 403 CG patients were included. The meta-analysis of 6 studies showed that CMT had statistically significant effects (p<0.0001) on effective rate for CG compared to conventional medication. Conclusions: This systematic review suggests that CMT seems effective for CG, but limited evidence from risk of bias. For future studies, high-quality RCTs such as sham-controlled studies with standardized interventions are needed to provide sufficient evidence on the effects of CMT for CG.

  • Objectives: To systematically review and evaluate the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) on Pediatric Enuresis. Methods: We searched 12 English, Chinese and Korean databases by using relevant search terms up to October 2017. Every randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CMT for Pediatric Enuresis were considered for inclusion. The methodological quality of RCTs was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results: Eleven RCTs with 1110 participants were included. The meta-analysis of 11 studies revealed that CMT had statistically significant effects for Pediatric Enuresis compared to other medications in terms of effective rate. Safety issues are minor. Conclusions: This systematic review suggests that CMT may have positive effects on Pediatric Enuresis and safe treatment as a non-pharmacological treatment, but evidence is limited. For a better quality review, more and high-quality RCTs with standardized interventions are needed to offer sufficient evidence on the effects of CMT for Pediatric Enuresis.
