영국(英國)에서는 대학도서관(大學圖書館), 공공도서관(公共圖書館) 및 특수도서관(特殊圖書館)을 포함하여 각종(各種)의 도서관(圖書館)이 많이 있다. 그러나 불과 몇 달전까지만 해도 국가도서관제도(國家圖書館制度)가 없었다는 것은 경이(驚異)할만한 일이며, 세계적(世界的)으로 유명(有名)한 영국박물관도서관(英國博物館圖書館)도 공식적(公式的)인 국가도서관(國家圖書館)이 아니었기 때문이다. 1972년(年)에 새로운 입법(立法)이 통과되어, 소위 "영국도서관(英國圖書館)"이라 불리우는 국립도서관(國立圖書館)이 현재(現在) 건립중(建立中)에 있는데, 이것은 영국박물관도서관(英國博物館圖書館)(British Museum Library), 국립과학발명참고도서관(國立科學發明參考圖書館)(National Reference Library of Science and Invention), 국립과학기술대출도서관(國立科學技術貸出圖書館)(National Lending Library for Science and Technology), 국립중앙도서관(國立中央圖書館)(National Central Library) 및 영국국립서지관(英國國立書誌館)(British National Bibliography)을 통합(統合)하여 3부(部)로 구성(構成)되어질 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate a theoretical background of digital libraries and current projects on building digital libraries. The purpose of this study is to establish the legal or institutional bases of academic libraries as the core facility which helps strengthen the capabilities of education and research by collecting, managing and providing knowledge resources for universities in Korea. The present 'Library Law' largely focuses on public libraries and the National Central Library, and deals with academic libraries, special libraries and school libraries in a very limited sense. Therefore, in this research the changes in the laws and regulations related to academic libraries are examined, and the process of proposing and legislating 'The Academic Library Promotion Act' is analyzed. Finally, how to proceed to actually legislate 'The Academic Library Promotion Act' is suggested.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic feasibility of Busan Regional Central Library. The four candidate sites were included for the analysis. To achieve the purpose of this study, we applied three types of indices such as Benefit-Cost analysis, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return. We used CVM(Contingent Valuation Method) to calculate the benefit; we conducted two investigations to calculate WTP, which are for pretest and for main survey. From results of pretest, we designed five optimal prices. On the basis of them, main survey was accomplished to figure out WTPs for four candidate sites. The results show that four candidate sites were all feasible from an economic point of view. Of these, the Busan Citizen Park site got the highest point of B/C ratio.

This study is to firstly investigate information infrastructure in North Korea such as communication network, hardware, software and etc, and then, based on it, to grasp the present condition of information technology in libraries there. Also, it is to analyze the information system of science technology in order to research the circulation system of science information with focusing on the Central Science Technology Intelligence (CSTI), a representative intelligence agency for science technology in North Korea, and on the retrieval program of “KWANGMYOUNG System”developed by CSTI and used broadly.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the mutual cooperations of school and public libraries in Japan, and to investigate the possibility of its application to Korea. To the end, discussed in details are the characteristics and limitations of cooperative activities between school and public libraries in Japan. The major contents of this study are as follows: First, analyzed are the present conditions of school libraries in Japan, with emphasis on human resources, facilities, and school library policies. Second, comprehensively investigated are the cooperation projects of school and public libraries which have been conducted by the central and local governments. Finally, discussed are the meanings of library cooperations in Japan and its implications for Korea.

In order to fortify a professional approach in the construction of libraries, this study investigates library establishment procedures and examines problems which are raised in them. In so doing, it points to the necessities of professional consideration and engagement in the library construction and underlines a role of central government to support the process. As a way of supporting library construction, it suggests a consulting system which can provide practical support to those who are involved in the library establishment process.

The purpose of this study is to suggest an improved model of the library administrative organization, based on analysis and investigation of present situations of libraries in 31 local governments of Gyeonggi province. With the result of this investigation, there are few local governments in Gyeonggi province with library-related organizations. Most of them had more organized position of extraordinary session than of affiliation with each local government. Also, library policy departments were incomplete, and local governments did not configure the library operating System(central library - base library - branch library) efficiently.
