  • IEC 62278, a standard for Railway applications of RAMS, was established in 2002. This IEC standard is based on CENELEC EN 50126 and covered overall railway fields. Activities that had to be performed from concept to decommissioning and disposal of railway system life-cycle, were contained in this standard. On the flow of internationalization, our Railway Authorities and railway support industry need to understand and apply this standard to railway fields. In this paper Railway RAMS in IEC 62278 is introduced.

  • The interests about railway safety have been highly increased. Early railway safety was widely studied in Europe and Japan, and safety standards were established in 1990s. EN 50126 of CENELEC, Railway applications - Specification and demonstration of RAMS, became IEC 62278 in 2002. This standard provides Railway Authorities and railway support industry with a process which will enable the implementation of a consistent approach to the management of RAMS. IEC 62278 will be often referred to in the field of railway system. This paper examined the application of railway RAMS on basis of IEC 62278.

  • A systematic methodology to determine safety requirements for railway signalling system and safety requirement allocation into system are presented. THR concept is used for as an interface between Risk Analysis to be performed by railway operator and System Design Analysis by the supplier. This approach is based on Signalling Safety Standard EN50129 by CENELEC.

  • In this work by measuring transfer impedance of communication cables using EN50289 its Shielding effect is analyzed. transfer impedance measurement triaxial method using EN50289 is defined in CENELEC, it is unlike triaxial method prescribed in IEC Standard 96-1, can be measured regardless of diameter of coaxial cable and outer conductor. in this paper, transfer impedance measurement device of coaxial cable is designed and made according to EN50289 standard, The analysis determines the reliable working frequency range of coaxial cable and examined the impact of different shielding methods on coaxial cable. The transfer impedance measurements show considerable variations in results with various shielding methods. also the measurement procedure is verified through comparison of calculated and measured transfer impedance of RG-58 cable.

  • The various risk assessment methodologies have been introduced in the railway industries. The risk assessment suggested by CENELEC are described with two ways; quantitative and qualitative methods. However, in the industry application level, the quantitative method is hard to apply for a project because of somehow complicated or few statistical figures which was driven from the on-site and the qualitative method is too subject to have the confidence of its results fully. In this paper, the state-of-the-art methods which were suggested in Europe recently are introduced and compared to existing quantitative and qualitative methods. Furthermore, the application measures of railway projects are investigated.

  • XLPE insulated power cables are introduced in Korea in 1980s. The cable installation test has been carried out according to the Korean Technical Reference of Electrical Facilities. But recent research results shows DC Hipot test cannot detect the serious defects in XLPE insulated cables. VLF test is recommended as a installation test of XLPE insulated cables by CENELEC and IEEE standards in 1996 and 2001 respectively. We suggest to apply VLF test as an installation test for XLPE insulated MV cables in Korea.

  • Recently Many technologies of the Powerline communication are proposed these technologies used high carrier frequency for high speed and stability, but high carrier frequency is restricted by the low of electric wave. So we will propose electric monitoring system that used the commercial powerline communication modem, isn't restricted by the low. Our objects are, first, we compared the low in korea, EU(CENELEC), and USA(FCC). second, proposed a spec of the powerline communication modem. third, design that the electric monitoring system using commercial A/D converter control and manage the electric equipment.

  • A power line data transmission method has been developed and presented in this paper. Although there have been efforts to develope power line data transmission techniques, none of them has been accepted as a standard. Thus, our method follows a defacto standard CENELEC's recommendations. The paper presents the algorithm as well as experimental results.

  • 국내 지중배전선로에 XLPE 절연체를 사용한 전력케이블이 1980년대 중후반부터 사용되기 시작하여 20년 이상 사용경험이 축적되고 있다. 현재 국내는 전기설비기술기준에 의하여 직류내전압시험을 사용하여 준공시험을 수행하고 있다. 그러나 최근 20여년의 국제적 연구결과는 직류내전압시험이 XLPE 절연체의 결함을 발견하지 못하며 절연체 내에 장기 공간전하를 형성함으로써 케이블의 수명을 단축하는 역효과가 발생한다고 보고되고 있다. 2000년대에 XLPE 절연체를 사용한 전력케이블의 준공시험으로 초저주파(VLF) 내전압시험이 CENELEC과 IEEE 규격으로 제정되었다. 국내에도 전력케이블의 준공시험으로 초저주파 내전압시험을 도입하여 적용하는 것이 적절하며, 초저주파전압을 이용한 열화진단기술을 적용하는 것이 XLPE 절연 케이블의 고장예방에 효과적일 것으로 기대된다.

  • RAMS(Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analyses are particularly important in the railway engineering sector and are increasingly required the specialized procedures. The RAMS analysis is performed to meet the high safety and quality standards. The RAMS standards were established in 1990s. EN 50126 of CENELEC, and IEC 62278 provide railway authorities and railway company with a procedure which will enable the implementation of a consistent approach to the management of RAMS. IEC 62278 will be often referred to in the field of railway system. This paper represents the RAMS procedure to apply to the EMU (Electrical Multiple Unit) based on the referenced RAMS standards.
