  • Multicasting over mobile IP network becomes more important with the increasing needs of supporting multimedia services in mobile network. The IETF has suggested two approaches which are remote subscription and bidirectional tunneling for supporting mobility management in multicasting over mobile IP. But these protocols have problems - the frequent reconstruction of multicast delivery tree, packet less during handoff, convergence problem, and so on. In this paper, we propose to use preconfiguration of multicast delivery tree when mobile host enters the foreign network. It will decrease the frequency of multicast delivery tree reconstruction, and reduce the packet loss during handoff, Also the multicast delivery tree maintained by Keep Alive messages makes the signaling overload of networks diminished.

  • In this paper, we propose a downlink power control scheme to apply in the unequal error protection multi-code CDMA mobile medicine system. The mobile medicine system contains (i) blood pressure and body temperature measurement value, (ii) ECG medical signals measured by the electrocardiogram device, (iii) mobile patient's history, (iv) G.729 audio signal, MPEG-4 CCD sensor video signal, and JPEG2000 medical image. By the help of the multi-code CDMA spread spectrum communication system with downlink power control scheme and unequal error protection strategy, it is possible to transmit mobile medicine media and meet the quality of service. Numerical analysis and simulation results show that the system is a well transmission platform in mobile medicine.

  • In this paper, we improve performance for system when the carrier recovery signal is not perfect in the multipath mobile wireless communication fast fading channel based on DS-CDMA system. In the case, we use the phase estimation, diversity and adaptive FEC code technique in order to overcome this carrier phase error and mobile wireless fading. As a results in DS-CDMA system, we know that the appropriate use of diversity and adaptive FEC code technique reduced considerably performance degradation due to phase error.

  • MC-CDMA, a multicarrier (MC) modulation scheme based on code division multiple access (CDMA), is the most likely candidate for the next generation of mobile radio communications. The rate compatible punctured turbo (RCPT) coded hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) has been found to give improved throughput performance in a direct sequence (DS) CDMA system. However, the extent to which the RCPT HARQ improves the throughput performance of an MC-CDMA system has not been fully understood. In this paper, we apply the RCPT HARQ to MC-CDMA and evaluate by computer simulations its performance in a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. We found that the performance of RCPT HARQ MC-CDMA is almost insensitive to channel characteristics. The performance can be drastically improved with receive diversity combined with space-time transmit diversity. In addition, the comparison of RCPT HARQ MC-CDMA, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, and DS-CDMA shows that under similar conditions the throughput of MC-CDMA is the best in a frequency selective fading channel.

  • The base station transceiver subsystem (BTS) of the CDMA Mobile System is interfaced to mobile stations over the air and to the wired network through a packet switched interconnection network. The potential benefits of CDMA technology are achieved when the transmitter and the receiver are properly designed and implemented. The physical layer of the interface at the base station is implemented with the CDMA ASICs and control circuits in channel card of the BTS. We present the design perspectives and structural illustration of the BTS. Base station modem ASICs and their control to implement the CDMA receiver, Baseband and RF signal processing blocks, and BTS controller are described. Elaborate power control is essential to ensure the high capacity which is one of advantages of the CDMA technology. The closed loop reverse link power control and the forward link power control operated in the BTS are described.

  • The performance of mobile radio communication system is dependent on various factors such as channel environment. Especially, the number of multipath components of mobile radio channel and multipath delay property in CDMA system for different bandwidths are changed. Therefore, using multipath components, Rake receiver provides improvement of performance of W-CDMA system is evaluated by computer simulation over the types of ITU-R wideband channel model and spreading rate. The result shows that the performance of CDMA adapting RAKE receiver is Improved by the increase of multipath components in equal level of the received power.

  • IP-based mobile communication system is one of the key research items in the mobile networks for a long time. But, due to some technical issues and no need of markets, it is still not full-fledged. Recently, CDMA and WCDMA service providers want to introduce IP-based network connectivity. Even though their efforts, the main network intra-structure depends on ATM or HDLC technology. This article describes a good example of commercialization of IP-based mobile communication systems. Our research is not experimental system but a in-service system - replacing the existing equipments with new IP-based systems. In this paper, we introduce IP related technologies used in our research such as IP-based ATCA(Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) platform, HA(High Availability) redundancy, IP multicast, network redundancy techniques, multi-link bundling and IP header compression. These are already well-known to internet domain. We mix them with mobile communication systems concretely.

  • The CDMA Mobile System (CMS) has been developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and field-tested for commercial service deployment in Korea. The project was started in 1989 and completed in 1995 with the CMS commercial test. During the course of development, there had been active technical cooperation with Qualcomm, Inc. and Korean manufacturers. The CMS adopted the basic CDMA concepts conforming to Korean CDMA system which was derived form IS-95. The CMS functions are allocated to subsystems by considering efficiency and expandability. The CMS consists of mobile stations and the infrastructure which is composed of base stations, mobile exchanges and home location register/authentication center. The commercial field tests performed both in Taejon and Seoul have indicated that the CMS capacity is 10 to 15 times larger than that of AMPS. This paper overviews the development history, system characteristics, architecture and test results.

  • The mobile tole-cardiology system is the new research area that support an ubiquitous health care based on mobile telecommunication networks. Although there are many researches presenting the modeling concepts of a GSM-based mobile telemedical system, practical application needs to be considered both compression performance and error corruption in the mobile environment. This paper evaluates three wavelet ECG compression algorithms over CDMA networks. The three selected methods are Rajoub using EPE thresholding, Embedded Zerotree Wavelet(EZW) and Wavelet transform Higher Order Statistics Coding(WHOSC) with linear prediction. All methodologies protected more significant information using Forward Error Correction coding and measured not only compression performance in noise-free but also error robustness and delay profile in CDMA environment. In addition, from the field test we analyzed the PRD for movement speed and the features of CDMA 1X. The test results show that Rajoub has low robustness over high error attack and EZW contributes to more efficient exploitation in variable bandwidth and high error. WHOSC has high robustness in overall BER but loses performance about particular abnormal ECG.
