Effect of CXCR4 and CD133 Co-expression on the Prognosis of Patients with Stage II~III Colon Cancer

  • Background: To explore the relationship between CXCR4, CD133 co-expression and clinicopathological features as well as prognosis of patients with phase II~III colon cancer. Materials and Methods: Forty-nine paraffin-embedded samples of tumor tissue and epithelial tissue adjacent to cancer were collected from patients with colon cancer undergoing radical surgery in Baotou Cancer Hospital from January, 2010 to June, 2011. CXCR4 and CD133 expression was detected using immunohistochemistry and its relationship with clinicopathological features and the 3-year survival rate was analyzed. Results: In the tumor tissue and colonic epithelial tissue adjacent to cancer, the positive expression rates of CXCR4 were respectively 61.2% (30/49) and 8.16% (4/49), while those of CD133 being 36.7% (18/49) and 6.12% (3/49). CXCR4 and CD133 expression in tumor tissue was not related to patient age, gender, primary focal sites, tumor size, TNM staging, histological type, tumor infiltration depth and presence or absence of lymphatic metastasis, but CXCR4 and CD133 co-expression was associated with TNM staging and lymphatic metastasis. The 3-year survival rate of patients with CXCR4 and CD133 co-expression was 27.3% (3/11), and that of the remainderwas 76.3% (29/38), the difference being significant ($X^2=7.0206$, p=0.0081). Conclusions: CXCR4 and CD133 co-expression may be a risk factor for poor prognosis of patients with stage II~III colon cancer.

암모니아의 농도에 따른 CBD-ZnS/CIGS 박막태양전지의 제작 및 분석

  • Cu(In, Ga)Se2 (CIGS) 박막 태양전지는 Soda lime glass/Mo/CIGS/CdS/ZnO/ITO/Al 의 구조를 가지고 있다. CIGS 화합물은 direct bandgap 구조를 하고 있으며, 광흡수율이 다른 어떤 물질들 보다 뛰어나 박막으로도 충분히 태양광을 흡수할 수 있다. 또한 Ga의 도핑 농도에 따른 밴드갭 조절도 가능하다. 이러한 성질들로 인해 현재 박막태양전지로서 20.1%의 최고효율을 가지고 있다.[1] CIGS 박막 태양전지에서 p-CIGS layer와 스퍼터링으로 증착되는 n-ZnO layer사이의 buffer 층으로 chemical bath deposition (CBD)-CdS 박막을 주로 사용한다. CBD-CdS 박막은 n-ZnO 스퍼터로 증착 시킬 때, CIGS 층의 손상을 최소화하고, 이 두 층 사이에서의 격자상수와 밴드갭의 차이를 줄여주어 CIGS 박막태양전지의 효율을 증가 시키는 역할을 한다. 하지만, Cd (카드뮴)의 심각한 독성과 낮은 밴드갭(2.4eV)으로 인해 CIGS 층에서의 광흡수율을 줄여, CdS를 대체할 새로운 buffer 층의 필요성이 대두되었다.[2] 그 대안으로 ZnS, Zn(O, S, OH), (Zn, Mg)O, In2S3 같은 물질이 연구되고 있다. 현재 CBD-ZnS를 buffer 층으로 사용한 CIGS 박막태양전지의 효율은 최고 18.6%로 CBD-CdS의 최고효율보다는 약 1.5% 낮지만, ZnS가 높은 밴드갭(3.7~3.8eV)과 Cd-free 물질이라는 점에서 CdS를 대체할 물질로 각광받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 CdS 박막을 제조하는 방법과 같은 방법인 CBD를 이용하여 ZnS 박막을 제조하였다. ZnS 박막을 제조하기 위해서는 Zinc sulfate, Thiourea, 암모니아가 사용된다. 암모니아의 mol 농도에 따른 CBD-ZnS/CIGS 박막태양전지의 효율 변화를 관찰하기 위해 암모니아의 mol 농도는 1 mol, 2 mol, 3 mol, 4 mol, 5 mol, 6 mol, 그 이상의 과량을 사용하여 실험하였다. 실험 결과, 암모니아농도 5 mol에서 효율 13.82%를 확인할 수 있었다. 최고효율을 보인 조건인 암모니아 농도가 5 mol 일 때, Voc는 0.602V, Jsc는 33.109mA/cm2, FF는 69.4%를 나타내었다.

Suggestion of Photovoltaic Switch and Evaluation of Its Usability (태양광 스위치 제안 및 효용성 평가)

  • In this paper, a photovoltaic switch is suggested that is operated by solar module, a substitute for CdS(Cadmium Sulfide) of most existing automatic switches and thus is powered by its renewably charged battery, and its usability is investigated through various experiments. At first the characteristics of CdS and the operation principle of the existing automatic switch are investigated, and then the characteristics of solar module are examined. These preparatory research shows the possibility of substitution of solar module instead of CdS in light activated switch. Secondly the suggested photovoltaic switch's circuit is designed, implemented and then its experimental comparison data shows the possibility for the replacement of the existing switch to the suggested switch, and furthermore its superiorities.

Fog Generated Field Test for Luminance Criteria of Variable Speed-Limit Signs (가변속도형 표지 휘도기준 정립을 위한 안개재현 현장실험)

  • OBJECTIVES : A fog generated field test was conducted to analyze the relationship between the luminance of variable speed-limit signs and the legibility distance under various fog density conditions. By using this study, appropriate luminance values can be selected depending on the density of fog. METHODS : An actual tunnel was selected as the area to conduct the test, as other places cannot maintain the fog condition because of rapid air current. Ninety-two subjects were recruited for this test, which took place during the course of three days. Visibility-distance detecting sensor was used to measure the visibility distance due to the fog density time, simultaneously with the evaluation of legibility distance by subjects. RESULTS : The test results show the relationship between luminance values and the legibility distance corresponding to the visibility distance due to fog. According to the technical test results, lower luminance value such as $7000cd/m^2$ corresponds to less legibility distance compared to higher values such as $20000cd/m^2$ or $40000cd/m^2$. However, the amount of difference between $20000cd/m^2$ and $40000cd/m^2$ is negligible in our test. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study can be used to select appropriate luminance of valuable speed signs under fog conditions. Hence, drivers can expect to have more room to respond to adverse weather conditions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

Pyrolysis Synthesis of CdSe/ZnS Nanocrystal Quantum Dots and Their Application to Light-Emitting Diodes (CdSe/ZnS 나노결정 양자점 Pyrolysis 제조와 발광다이오드 소자로의 응용)

  • We report on the light-emitting diode (LED) characteristics of core-shell CdSe/ZnS nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) embedded in $TiO_2$thin films on a Si substrate. A simple p-n junction could be formed when nanocrystal QDs on a p-type Si substrate were embedded in ${\sim}5\;nm$ thick $TiO_2$ thin film, which is inherently an n-type semiconductor. The $TiO_2$ thin film was deposited over QDs at $200^{\circ}C$ using plasma-enhanced metallorganic chemical vapor deposition. The LED structure of $TiO_2$/QDs/Si showed typical p-n diode currentvoltage and electroluminescence characteristics. The colloidal core-shell CdSe/ZnS QDs were synthesized via pyrolysis in the range of $220-280^{\circ}C$. Pyrolysis conditions were optimized through systematic studies as functions of synthesis temperature, reaction time, and surfactant amount.

Phytoremediation by Persicaria thunbergii (고마리를 사용한 중금속 처리)

  • For the consideration of phytoremediation, TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ and Pb$^{2+}$ were analysed in the soil of the habitats and the leaf stem and root of Persicaria thunbergii in the different localities of Bong-Dong river In the soil and plant samples of research areas, TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ was not detected but, $Pb^{2+}$ detected as follows; about 7.5~15.5$mu\textrm{g}$/g in the soil of habitats, about 11.7~18.4 $mu\textrm{g}$/g in the leaf, about 7.~15.5$mu\textrm{g}$/g in the stem and about 89.1~193.6$\mu\textrm{g}$/g in the root of P. thunebrgii and the correlation coefficient value between the $Pb^{2+}$ contents in soil and P. thunbergii was 0.814(>t12, 0.01). After P thunbergii was treated with Cd(NO$_3$)$_2$and Pb(NO$_3$)$_2$of 5 and 10mM, the bioaccumulation of TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ and $Pb^{2+}$ in the leaf of plant, the remaining mass of heavy metals and the variation of pH in the soil, and the increasing rate(%) of phytochelatin in plant were examined. The concentrations of TEX>$Cd^{2+}$and $Pb^{2+}$ in the leaf as follows, in the case of TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ about 0.82~2.79$\mu\textrm{g}$/g and in $Pb^{2+}$, about 2.87~8.08$\mu\textrm{g}$/g. The remaining mass of heavy metals and the variation of pH in the cultured soil decreased as follows; about 77.1% and pH6.39 in TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ 5mM, about 90.2% and pH5.79 in TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ 10mM, about 81.1% and pH6.00 in $Pb^{2+}$ 5mM and about 85.7% and pH5.80 in Pb$^{2+}$ 10mM. The phytochelatin were increased in plant samples treated with 10mM Cd(NO$_3$)$_2$and Pb(NO$_3$)$_2$as follows; about 259% by TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ and about 305% by Pb$^{2+}$ be compared with control. and the molecular weight(da) of these phytochelatins were estimated about 4,300~8,600da in the case of the treatment of TEX>$Cd^{2+}$ and about 3,200~9,700 in $Pb^{2+}$./TEX>.

  • Objective : To investigate the effect of BUM aqua-acupuncture in treating the RA, the immunosis to logical analysis of LPS induced arthritis in mice to study this. For 14th day after the injection of LPS & BUM injection, the distribution of fibroblast, collagen, CD54(ICAM-1), CD106(VCAM-1), IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-2 receptor, CDl lb(macrophage) were examined on synovial capsule of mice knee joint. For 14th day after the injection of LPS & BUM injection, the distribucion of CD4(TH cell), CD8(TC cell), CD40(B cell) were examined on common iliac lymph node in mice. Methods : The experimental model of arthritis was induced by injection of 300${\mu}g$/kg LPS in BALB/c mice weighing 30g. The 100${\mu}l$ BUM aqua-acupuncture which compounded calculus bovis, fel ursi and moschus was injected into GB34 of mice every other day for 12 days. For 3rd, 7th, 14th day after the injection of LPS, the neutrophil, lymphocyte and monocytc counts in WBC were measured using hemacytometer. Results : The obstain results are summarized as follows ; 1. In sample group, the neutrophils counts were increased and the lympnocytes counts were decreased compared with control group. 2. The distribution of fibrosis & fibroblast on synovial membrane were decreased compared with control group. 3. The distribution of collagen fiber on synovial membrane were decreased compared' with control group. 4. The distribution of CD54(ICAM-1) & CD106(VCAM-1) on synovial membrane were decreased compared with control group. 5. The distribution of IL-$1{\beta}$ & IL-2 receptor on synovial membrane were decreased compared with control group. 6. The distribution of CDb(macrophage) on synovial membrane were decreased compared with control group. 7. The distribution of CD4(TH cell), CD8(TC cell) and CD40(B cell) in common iliac lymph nodes were decreased compared with control group. Conclusions : BUM aqua-acupuncture stimulation decreased inflammatory responses LPS induced arthritis in mice.

Comparative physiological and proteomic analysis of leaf in response to cadmium stress in sorghum

  • Cadmium (Cd) is of particular concern because of its widespread occurrence and high toxicity and may cause serious morpho-physiological and molecular abnormalities in in plants. The present study was performed to explore Cd-induced morpho-physiological alterations and their potentiality associated mechanisms in Sorghum bicolor leaves at the protein level. Ten-day-old sorghum seedlings were exposed to different concentrations (0, 100, and $150{\mu}M$) of $CdCl_2$, and different morpho-physiological responses were recorded. The effects of Cd exposure on protein expression patterns in S. bicolor were investigated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) in samples derived from the leaves of both control and Cd-treated seedlings. The observed morphological changes revealed that the plants treated with Cd displayed dramatically altered shoot lengths, fresh weights, and relative water content. In addition, the concentration of Cd was markedly increased by treatment with Cd, and the amount of Cd taken up by the shoots was significantly and directly correlated with the applied level of Cd. Using the 2-DE method, a total of 33 differentially expressed protein spots were analyzed using MALDI-TOF/TOF MS. Of these, treatment with Cd resulted in significant increases in 15 proteins and decreases in 18 proteins. Significant changes were absorbed in the levels of proteins known to be involved in carbohydrate metabolism, transcriptional regulation, translation and stress responses. Proteomic results revealed that Cd stress had an inhibitory effect on carbon fixation, ATP production and the regulation of protein synthesis. In addition, the up-regulation of glutathione S-transferase and cytochrome P450 may play a significant role in Cd-related toxicity and stress responses. Our study provides insights into the integrated molecular mechanisms involved in response to Cd and the effects of Cd on the growth and physiological characteristics of sorghum seedlings. The upregulation of these stress-related genes may be candidates for further research and use in genetic manipulation of sorghum tolerance to Cd stress.

Correlation between Deoxycytidineuria and CdR-aminohydrolase Activity following X-Irradiation (X線照射에 따르는 Deoxycytidineuria와 CdR-aminohydrolase의 活性變化와의 連關性)

  • This work was undertaken to elucidate some aspects of mechanisms underlying the increased deoxycytidineuria following irradiation in the mice, by observing Dische-positive substances liberated from thissues, the activity of CdR-aminohydrolase of tissues and the CdR excreted in the urine at various times after single whole-body exposure to 400 and 800 R of X-rays. The activity of CdR-aminohydrolase declined markedly at 1 hour in the small intestine and liver, followed by a gradual rise reaching a maximum at 3 days after irradiation. In the case of the spleen and blood, however, only a trace of activity was observed in the control and irradiated animals. The amount of Dische-positive substance liberated from the small intestine postirradiation was elevated from 3 to 12 hours, showing a maximum during 6 to 9 hours after irradiation. On the contrary, the activity of the enzyme in the liver, spleen and kidney was less than one twentieth that of the small intestine, suggesting a prediction that these organs are not attributable to the increased deoxycytidineuria. A maximum deoxycytidineuria was exhibited at 9-12 hours period, attributed a large amount of CdR to the small intestine, which might correlate with the change in the CdR-aminohydrolase activity. Radiation-induced CdR seems to be liberated from the small intestine into the blood when the CdR-aminohydrolase activity declines abruptly. Then, the CdR is rapidly subjected to a filtration in the kidney without undergoing a further degradation pathway in the blood.
