Dissolution Properties for the Inorganic Pollutants in Soils (토양 중 무기 오염물질의 용출 특성)

  • Dissolution properties for the 6 inorganic pollutants (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr) in soils have been studied. These 6 inorganic pollutants were spiked to 3 kinds of fresh soils which were sand, clay, and loam. The dissolution properties of the prepared samples were investigated under the various extracting conditions such as extracting time, acid concentration, particle size, etc. in order to obtain basic information about the process of extraction test and improvement of related analytical methods. As the results, dissolution properties were affected mainly by acid concentration in extracting procedure and mineral composition of soils. On the other hand, extracting time, sort of acids and particle size of soils had a little influence on the dissolution properties. Cd revealed very high dissolving efficiency and As was very low in whole extracting test.

Effect of Water Hardness on Toxicity of Cadmium and Zinc (수계 내 경도가 Cd와 Zn 독성에 미치는 영향)

  • Heavy metals in water systems are being managed on the concentration-based guidelines in Korea. However, various chemicals present in water can interact with heavy metals affecting their toxicity. Such interactions are not considered in the concentration-based guidelines. This study investigated the effect of hardness and coexisting heavy metals on heavy metal toxicity to emphasize the importance of having the effect-based guidelines together with the concentration-based guidelines in water management. The toxic effects of Cd, Zn, or mixtures of Cd and Zn were studied with Daphnia magna as a test species following the standard test method at different hardness conditions (100, 200, and $300mg\;L^{-1}$ as $CaCO_3$). The toxicities of single metal solutions and mixtures showed a decreasing trend with increasing hardness, and this can be attributed to the competition between heavy metals and cations such as calcium ions ($Ca^{2+}$) that cause hardness. The predicted toxicities of the heavy metal mixtures from the single metal toxicity deviated from the measured toxicities, and the predicted toxic effects tend to be greater than the measured toxic effects suggesting that Cd and Zn are in competition. This shows the limitations of using predicted toxic effects and the needs for further studies on mixture toxicities. Overall, this study shows that the management of heavy metals in waters needs to employ the effect-based guidelines together with the concentration-based guidelines.

Dispersion, Speciation and Adsorption Treatment of Heavy Metals in the Vicinity of the Shi-Heung Cu-Pb-Zn Mine (시흥 Cu-Pb-Zn 광산 주변에서의 중금속원소들의 분산 및 존재형태와 흡착처리)

  • In order to investigate the dispersion patterns and speciations of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in soils, stream sediments and stream waters, geochemical studies of soil, stream sediment and stream water samples collected in the vicinity of the Shi-Heung Cu-Pb-Zn mine was carried out Cation exchange capacity measurement, size analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and batch test were performed to select applicable soil for adsorption treatment The average content of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in soils collected from tailings and ore dressing plant is 1084 ppm, 2292 ppm, 3512 ppm and 29.2 ppm, respectively, and therefore, tailings and ore dressing plant site may be the major contamination sources in this study area. The mean content of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in stream sediments is extremely high up to 794 ppm, 1633 ppm, 2946 ppm and 25.2 ppm, respectively. Tailing particles and heavy metal ions are dispersed along the tributary system. Results from the sequential extraction analysis indicate; (1) most of Cu is bound to organic matters and sulphides, (2) fraction of Pb is mainly bound to Fe and Mn oxides. Most of Zn is largely bound to Fe and Mn oxides and residual fraction. Ion exchangeable fraction of Cd is relatively higher than those of Cu, Pb and Zn. Batch test on soils collected from the kaolinite and/or pyrophyllite mines and from the control areas was carried out to select an applicable soil samples for adsorption treatment The sample, S10, collected from the control area 2 (clay content 33.2%) shows the highest $K_d$ (distribution coefficient). Organic content in soils and several clay minerals shows relatively good correlation with $K_d$. It means that applicable soils for adsorption treatment of heavy metals show high organic and clay content.

새로운 오메프라졸염의 약효검색에 관한 연구

  • 오메프라졸의 산 불안정성을 개선하기 위하여 신규 합성한 오메프라졸 cholestyramin resin 염 복합체와 오메프라졸 hydroxypropyl-$\beta$-cyclodextrin (HP-$\beta$-CD) 포접화합물의 약효를 검색하였다. 생체외 실험 (in vitro test)으로 H$^{+}$/K$^{+}$-ATPase 활성도 저해효과를 검토하였으며 생체내 실험 (in vivo test)으로 Shay 결찰법에 의한 위산분비 억제효과에 대한 실험을 실시하였다. 오메프라종 염 복합체와 오매프라졸 포접화합물은 1$\times$$10^{-5}$-1$\times$$10^{-3}$M농도 범위에서 용랴의존적으로 H$^{+}$K$^{+}$-ATPase 활성을 억제시켰으며 $IC_{50}$/치는 오메프라졸 결과와 유사하였다. 셍체네 실험에서는 오메프라졸 HP-$\beta$-CD 포접화합물이 오메프라졸과 그 resin염복합체보다 위액분비량, 펩신 활성도에 대한 $IC_{50}$/치가 낮았으며 이는 생체내에서 포접 화합물이 오메프라졸의 안정성을 증가시킴으로서 위산분비 억제효과를 증가시킨것으로 사료된다.

Obligatory Control and Coordinated Deletion as Korean Subject Diagnostics: An Experimental Approach

  • This study investigated the distribution of subject properties in Korean. Based on the previous studies on so-called 'subjecthood diagnostics' in Korean Multiple Subject Constructions (MSCs), the current study investigates how different subject properties are distributed in single subject constructions (Non-MSCs) and MSCs. Focusing on two distinct subject properties - obligatory control (OC) of PRO and coordinated deletion (CD) - an empirical syntactic experiment was designed to test how these two subjecthood diagnostics behave in the Non-MSC and MSC environments. Seventy Korean native speakers were tested over magnitude estimation task, composed of 80 Korean sentences representing different subject properties in single or multiple subject constructions. Overall results showed (i) both OC and CD can be used as subjecthood diagnostic tests in the Non-MSC environments, but (ii) that only OC can be used as a subjecthood diagnostic test in the MSC environments.

Effects of Heavy Metals on the Beware Treatment Process by Water Hyacinth (중금속이 수생히야신스(부레옥잠)를 이용한 하수처리 공정에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of the this study was to evaluate the effects of heavy metals on the sewage treatment process designed to remove organic material and nutrients using Water- hyacinth ( Eichhornia crassipes ). Batch experiments were carried out using domestic sewage spiked with different level of heavy metal mixtures ( Cd, Pb and Cu ). The specific growth rates of Water- hyacinth ranged from 0.0008 to 0.0015 1/day( operated at water temperatures of 22 ∼30$\circ $c ) and increased as the concentration of heavy metals decreased. The test result showed that the permissible maximum concentrations Cd, Pb and Cu for the growth of Water- hyacinth were 0.5, 1, and 6 mg/ℓ respectively. Under these maximum permissible heavy metal loads, removal rate of organic material, nitrogen and phosphorus were 85%,75% and 75% , respectively, during 40days of the test period.

  • This paper addresses a development work of a SLA apparatus on laboratory basis. The SLA test machine is composed of optical, movement, curing and control subsystems. Optical part is performed by a He-Cd laser with mirror combination and mechanical movement is achieved by X-Y table. The developed system is evaluated by several test runs, and shows a good precision capability in forming a basic part. The technique used in this work can be extended to replace the high technology transfer cost of commercial RP machine.

  • This study developes the vibration model to estimate the vibration energy of damper/spring assembly(mainbase assembly) for car CD player, and this model is verified by experiment. From frequency response, response, we investigate the natural frequency and mode shape in the up/down direction. In order to determine the analysis frequency band, we investigate the excitation frequency from the vehicle test. As the characteristics of damper and spring is changed, we carry out the vibration test(transmissibility) and investigate the change of transmissibility.

The content and risk assessment of heavy metals in commercial herbal medicines (서울지역 유통한약재의 중금속 함량 및 위해성 평가)

  • This study investigated the contents of Pb, Cd, As, and Hg for 4333 samples with 2 09 types of herbal medicines distributed in Seoul area from 2019 to 2021, and evaluated risk assessment according to medicinal part used and origin. The contents of heavy metals were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and mercury analyzer. The average contents (mg/kg) of heavy metals by medicinal parts were 0.123 to 1.290 for Pb, 0.018 to 0.131 for Cd, 0.034 to 0.290 for As, and 0.003 to 0.015 for Hg. The contents of Pb were higher in Leaves and Whole Herbs (above-ground part) than underground part (Radix & Rhizoma) (ANOVA-test, p < 0.05). The contents of Cd were high in Leaves, Radix & Rhizoma, and Stems & Woods (ANOVA-test, p <0 .05), and exceeded regulatory limits in various types. Levels of Pb, Cd concentrations exceeding regulatory limits were observed in 8, 22 samples (8, 14 types). No sample exceeded regulatory limits of As and Hg. In the comparison between countries of origin, the contents of Cd, As, and Hg were high in imported herbal medicines (t-test, p < 0.05). As a result of the risk assessment, except for Thujae Orientalis Folium and Spirodelae Herba, the MOE values of Pb were all 1 or more, and most samples were safe. The Hazard Index (HI) for Cd, As, and Hg were evaluated to be less than 100 % even if the risk (%) of each heavy metal was added, and the risk from taking herbal medicines was evaluated to be safe.

  • Reference ranges of standard experimental parameters are useful for comparisons in toxicology. The aim of this study was to collect data from 4-week repeated toxicity studies in Crl:CD (SD) rats, a strain widely used for toxicity and efficacy research, for establishing domestic reference values. Data on body weight, food consumption; urinalysis, hematological, and blood biochemical parameters; and organ weights were collected from 16 toxicity studies in 220 Crl:CD (SD) rats (110 males and 110 females). The studies had been performed at a single testing facility over the last 3 years and involved animals sourced from a single breeder. The findings were collated as means, standard deviations, percentages, and ranges. Urine volume, uterus weight, eosinophil, and basophil counts, and triglyceride, total bilirubin, and gammaglutamyl transpeptidase levels showed standard deviations of 30% or more. These historical control data would help to interpret the effects of test substances in routine toxicity and efficacy studies.
