A practical and efficient disposal of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in waste transformer oil by a chemical dechlorination process has been reported. The transformer oil containing commercial PCB mixtures (Aroclor 1242, 1254 and 1260) was treated by the required amounts of PEG 600 (polyethylene glycol 600), potassium hydroxide (KOH) and aluminum (Al), along with different reaction temperatures and times. The reaction of PEG with PCBs under basic condition produces arylpolyglycols, the products of nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The relative efficiencies of PCB treatment process were assessed in terms of destruction and removal efficiency (DRE, %). Under the experimental conditions of PEG600/KOH/Al/100 oC/2hr, average DRE of PCBs was approximately 78%, showing completely removal of PCBs containing 7-9 chlorines on two rings of biphenyl which appear later than PCB no. 183 (2,2',3,4,4',5',6-heptaCB) in retention time of GC/ECD. However, when increasing the reaction temperature and time to 150 oC and 240 min, average DRE of PCBs including the most toxic PCBs (PCB no. 77, 105, 118, 123 and 169) in PCB family reached 99.99% or better, with the exception of PCB no. 5 and 8 (2,3-diCB and 2,4'-diCB). In studying the reaction of PEG with PCBs, it confirmed that the process led to less chlorinated PCBs through a stepwise process with the successive elimination of chlorines. The process also permits complete recovery of treated transformer oil through simple segregating procedures.

In this paper, we propose the method that analyzes the depth of object using 2 images in the disparity algorithm. It also presents the design and implementation of the proposed method for a real time processing. The proposed system uses the vertical strip structure for calculating similar pixel numbers for the processing and converts the depth of object into gray scale images in order to be displayed on various display devices. The hardware using the proposed method is operating with 30 frames/sec and verified by using the Altera APEX 20K1000EBC652-3. The proposed method is also Implemented into It by using the Hynix 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CB35 ASIC library and 256PQFP package.
For axenic isolation of the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa, water bloom at the Mulgum station from the Nakdong River was pretreated by shaking with distilled water. Removal of bacteria was accomplished using antibiotics (150 $\mu$g/$m\ell$ ampicillin and 25 $\mu$g/$m\ell$ neomycin) and colonizing on CB solid medium prepared from 0.7% agarose at 3$0^{\circ}C$ under 40 $\mu$ mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ light. Among 26 strains of the Microcystis species, only three strains were axenically established. The three strains were examined by PCR-amplified 16S rRNA gene and 16S rRNA sequencing. The similarities were 99.5 ~100% with M. aeruginosa AF 139292.

Carbon black has been widely used in composites, tonor resin, and ink materials. Since carbon black readily agglomerates, it is important to disperse carbon black in real applications. Aiming to improve dispersion stability, carbon black was chemically oxidized to possess hydroxyl groups using a phase transfer catalyst at room temperature. The modified carbon black (CB-OH) was grafted by a silane coupling agent, p-methylacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, to carry teminal vinyl groups. The modified carbon black was subsequently used in miniemulsion polymerization to achieve encapsulted core-shell structure. Finally, well-encapsulated carbon black by polymer was obtained in the size range of 100-500 nm. Throughout the polymerization, the effects of surface modification, types of monomers, initiators, and emulsifiers were investigated.
2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T)-degrading bacterial strains were isolated from rice field and field in suburbs of Taejon. Of the total 100 isolates, 19 strains were selected by fast growth on solid minimal media containing 2,4,5-T as a sole of carbon and energy, and they were identified to genus level. 11 strains were identified as Pseudomonas, 4 strains as Acinetobacter, 1 strains were as Alcaliagenes and 3 strains were not identified. Strains MU19 and MU92 which were identified as Pseudomonas were capable of degradation for 4 kinds of chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, 2,4-D, 2,4,5-T, MCPA and 3CB. Acinetobacter sp. MU38 showed the highest degradability in liquid minimal media at 48 hours after inoculation, and Pseudomonas spp. MU19. MU57, MU73, and MU92 were able to degrade carbon source at higher rates. As the results Acinetobacter sp. MU38 and Pseudomonas spp. MU19 and MU92 were capable of biodegradation for broad range of halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons, and had higher rates of degradation for 2,4,5-T.
Dextransucrase hyper-producing Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-512FMCM and dextransucrase constitutive mutants B-742CB and B-1355C catalyzed the transfer of glucose from sucrose to other carbohydrates which were present or were added to the reaction digests. When the acceptor was a maltose, gentiobiose, lactose or raffinose, there was produced a series of oligosaccharide acceptor products or single product based on the kinds of enzymes and reaction conditions. To obtain the quantitative information about the yield and the distribution of acceptor products and dextran two experimental parameters were studied: a) the ratio of acceptor to sucrose and b) the amount of enzyme at constant carbohydrate concentration (100 mM). As the amount of enzyme increased, the synthesis of acceptor products (of maltose or gentiobiose) increased, and the formation of dextran decreased. As the ratio of acceptor to sucrose increased, the amount of dextran and the number of acceptor-products decreased and the amount of acceptor-products increased. When maltose or gentiobiose was an acceptor, the glucose from sucrose was transferred to the C-6 hydroxyl group of the nonreducing-end glucose residue of accepters to give a homologous series of isomaltosyl dextrins. In case of lactose or raffinose, there was produced only one acceptor product from B-512FMCM dextransucrase reaction. In the lactose acceptor reaction, the glucose from sucrose was transferred to the C-2 hydroxyl of the reducing end glucose residue of lactose. To get a series of oligosaccharides from lactose or raffinose acceptor reaction we used B-742CB dextransucrase or B-1355C alternansucrase with 500 mM sucrose in reaction digest.

To find antitumor components from higher fungi, the mycelia of Collybia confluens (Pers. ex Fr.) Kummer were cultured in artificial media. For efficient production of the mycelia, the influences of various modifications of culture conditions were examined. A water-soluble protein-bound polysaccharide fraction, Fr. A, was obtained from the mycelia by hot water extraction. When Fr. A was purified and fractionated by DEAE-cellulose and Sepbadex G-200 gel filtration chromatographies into four fractions which were designated B, C, C-I and C-II. The tumor inhibition ratios of these fractions ranged from 46% to 75% against the solid forms of sarcoma 180 in ICR mice at doses of 20 and 50 mg/kg/day when given intraperitoneally. Especially, Fr. C which was named Collyban(CB) exhibited a marked life-prolonging effect of the mice against ascitic forms of sarcoma 180 at a dose of 50 mg via i.p. administration. To extend spectra of the antitumor activities and eliminate the effects of allograft rejection, the characterization of antitumor effects of CB was performed in syngeneic host-tumor systems. It did not show any antitumor activity against L1210 murine leukemia in $CD_2Fl$ mice but prolonged their life span against ascitic forms of $MM_{46}$ carcinoma in $C_3H/He$ mice. Also it exhibited antitumor activity against human cervical cancer HeLa cells that were xenografted into nude mice having BALB/c genetic backgrounds by the i.p. injection at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day. In order to characterize the antitumor components, CB was examined by chemical analysis. It was acidic protein-bound polysaccharides composed of 31% polysaccharide, 27% protein and 3% hexosamine. CB was fractionated into two fractions, Fr. C-I(M.W.: 500 Kd) and Fr. C-II(M.W.:30 and 8 Kd) by Sephadex G-200 gel filtration chromatography.

In this paper, to choose the optimum CBN wheel for Internal Grinding at LM Guide, among 7 types of CBN-wheels, the 2 types of CBN-wheels, which were the macrofracture CBN wheel and the microfracture CBN wheel, have been used, and the SCM420H have been used as the workpiece. The working conditions in the grinding experiments were depth-of-cut, table speed, and spindle speed for 4 types of the CBN grinding wheels, 2 types of the lubrications. By the experiments, the loading effect of the microfracture types of the CBN-wheel needed a short dressing interval and resulted in grinding wheel wear and bad surface roughness. However, a macrofracture type of CBN-wheel with the concentration of 100, CB120Q100V showed the best surface roughness quality at a low table speed for internal grinding at LM-guide.
To observe the difference of the special liquid influencing to the fitness of casting body among the many elements influencing to the die fitness of the casting body, we fit L/P ratio each investment, using two kinds of phosphate bonded investment, divided the density of the special liquid by 5 groups(Density 100, 75, 50, 25, 0), made 10 copying per each group and experiment 10 groups, totally 100 copying and finally we could get the result as following ; 1) In such a case of CB-30, the casting fitness of the density 100 of special liquid, group 6, was the best and in order of the density 75, 50, 25, 0 the fitness is better. 2) In such of Denti-vest, the fitness of the density 100 of the special liquid, group 1, was the best and in order of the density 75, 50, 25, 0 the fitness is better. 3) Therefore we should change the density according to the transformation of the environment as investing because of increasing the expansion of phosphate bonded investment, as increasing the density of the special liquid.
Genetic transformation in dandelion(Taraxacum mongolicum Hand). was studied. We used for transformation by Agrobacterium tumefaciens strian LBA4404 harboring a binary vector pBI121 carrying the CaMV 35S promoter-GUS gene fusion used as a reporter gene and NOS promoter-NPTII gene as a positive selection marker. To obtain transformed plants, leaf explants of dandelion were cocultured with Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404 for 10 mins, then transferred to MS medium containing 1 $\mu$M IAA, 1$\mu$M BA, 100$\mu$g/ML carbenicillin and 50 $\mu$g/ML kanarmycin sulfate. After two weeks of subculture of the explants, Kanamycin-resistant shoots were formed on explants survived. When subjected to GUS histochemical assay, all of the regenerants showed the GUS-positive responses. Plantlets were be be transformed to soil for further growth.
