  • So far, the study on semi-solid process has been carried out to develop and research new advanced materials without some casting defects. In this study, A356 billets consisted of various dendritic shapes were prepared using electro-magnetic stirring process continuously. As-cast respectively has liquidus temperature of $625.6^{\circ}C$ and solidus temperature of $573.55^{\circ}C$ A356 slugs were reheated homogeneously at different temperatures of 580, 590 and $605^{\circ}C$, followed by squeezing in a mold insulated with applied pressures(0, 25, 50 and 70 MPa). In order to investigate on aging responce for casts, 50 MPa squeezed specimen among all specimens was prepared in aging treatments, which conditions are aging temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ and holding times of 0, 45, 90, 270, 360, 720, 1440 and 2880 min after solution treatment ($540^{\circ}C$ for 10 hr). SSM ingot with the output velocity of 150mm/min appeared more spheroidal shape and fine structure than that with the output velocity of 250 mm/min. According to increasing in reheating temperature, numbers of fatigue cycles, U.T.S and elongation increased at same time.

  • The pattern of a dance had changed and made a progress delicately according to the change of the myth, religion, and civilization. One genre which had experienced the change for the dance is a mask dance. This dance started from wishes to adore spirit or god with imitated masks of native animals and desire to identify with nature. After the middle ages, it finally became to approach to the artistic state. In that dance, there was used a role of the head of the family which was strongly adapted to the shape of the mask as performing casts After studying symbolic characteristics of the mask dancing, we could conclude these as fol1ows.: First, Masks symbolized the totemism that adores spirit or god. This kind of whole masks were consistently used. Second, Mask was worn for expressing a dancer's cast well. This function of performing cast was in the primitive ages. However at the age which was characterized as the age of the art, the expression of using a mask became various. Third, Mask was mostly related to the head of the family and appeared with the desire to be others not themselves. Since the middle ages, this tendency continued to the modern dance. Now we can see this type at the carnival. The mask was not only an effective means of dance but also an expression of totemism, performing cast, and the head of the family. Therefore it contributed to the growth of the dance a lot.

  • I attempted to suggest a better method to separate a refractory cast in order to solve the problems caused by bonding between refractory casts and ceramics in the firing-processing of all ceramic crowns as a part of dental prosthodontics. I emphasize the advantages and effectiveness of easy separation after firing by using the separating materials about the refractory cast dies. 1. We must not usse HF(55%) that is used as the chemical separating methods. 2. We decrease such methods as grinding, blasting, bur, and point 3. We can save time, costs and manual labors by using this methods. 4. This method regulates the expansion and constriction of heat because of the chemical reaction of the separating materials. 5. This method contribute to the breaking down without modification by minimizing the chemical and mechanical damages of the marginal and interior parts.

  • This study was intended to investigate the effect of mesiodistal crown widths of the anterior teeth on the incisor relationship and to determine whether incisor width ratio and anterior width ratio could be used to assess interarch tooth width harmony. From the casts taken from 63 subjects, 26 of open bite, 18 of deep bite and 19 of normal over bite with age of 17-20, mesiodistal crown widths of maxillary and mandibular 6 anterior teeth were measured with Boley gauge. On the basis of tooth measurements, anterior and incisor width ratio were calculated. The cephalograms were taken from same subjects to measure the degree of over bite and over jet and to compare the craniofacial bony structures between open bite, deep bite and normal over bite. Correlations among the anterior width ratio, incisor width ratio, over bite and over jet were calculated. The results were as follows. 1. There were no differences in mesiodistal widths of anterior teeth, incisor width ratio and anterior width ratio between open bite, deep bite and normal over bite. 2. The incisor width ratio and anterior width ratio can be useful in the assessment of tooth width harmony because the incisor width ratio and anterior width ratio were stable statistically and significantly correlated with each other. 3. Over bite and over jet were not correlated with incisor width ratio and anterior width ratio.

  • Masticatory function is more important than esthetics in posterior fixed restoration. The usual technique-mounting the casts on a semi-adjustable articulator, etc. -cannot make all patients satisfied with their restorations. For example, functionally generated path technique can be an easier and more satisfactory method in the restoration of group function. These clinical reports describe various approaches for occlusal restoration of relatively simple posterior fixed protheses according to patients occlusal patterns. The 3-unit bridge restoration is one of the most popular treatment options in prosthodontics. Because dentists have much experiences of it, they restore a missing span of one tooth mechanically, that is, without special consideration. While esthetics is important in making an anterior 3-unit fixed prostheses, mastication is more focused on in posterior 3-unit bridge restoration. Many dentists are concerned about various aspects in esthetics, such as morphology of the tooth, value, chroma, hue, translucency, surface texture, etc. But they do not usually consider various methods to restore occlusion. They treat one-tooth-missing area in a similar way in spite of patients having variety of occlusal patterns. Three cases are presented here in 3 or 4-unit bridge restoration. They show some methods to restore patients' occlusal patterns.

  • Purpose: Variation in the morphology of gingival papilla may be determined by the shape and position of anatomic crown as well as contact area and embrasure form of individual teeth. However, periodontal biotype classification is regarded to be subjective because of the lack of definite criteria. In this study, we defined the objective parameters which constitute the periodontal biotype and measured their relationship. Materials and Methods: 109 of dental casts were prepared using three dimensional scanner and specialized reconstruction software, then acquiredvirtual models were sent to the 20 professional dentists to define the specific periodontal biotypes. Several parameters around periodontal structures were measured from the virtual models; facial surface area of the anterior tooth (AT), anterior papillary area (AP), proportion of the dento-papillary complex, clinical papillary length (PL), and clinical papillary angle (PA). Statistical analysis was performed to confirm the relationship among parameters. Results: Coincidence rate of periodontal biotype within observers was $63.77{\pm}16.05%$. Coincidence rate between observers was $76.15{\pm}16.43%$. Among the parameters measured, PL showed the most positive correlations and PA presented the most negative correlations. The parameter of the AP and PL of six maxillary anterior teeth showed significant correlation coefficient. Conclusion: Anterior papillary area and clinical papillary length would be objective parameters for determining the consistent periodontal biotypes.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors which might be related to mandibular third molar eruption and to predict the possibility of whether or not it will be erupted. The material of this study was lateral cephalometric radiograms, pantomograms and dental casts obtained from 70 patients (19 males, 51 females) ranging in age from 18.0 to 32.1 years. They were devided into erupted group and impacted group of mandibular third molars. For the comparison of each group, a total of 20 measurement items were employed and the data were analyzed by means of computer statistical method. As a result of this study, the following conclusion can be made; 1. The longer mandibular body length and narrower mandibular ramus width, the higher eruption tendency of the lower third molar, but the degree of genial angle was not related to mandibular third molar eruption. 2. The lower percentage of posterior mandibular body height to anterior mandibular body height, the higher eruption tendency of the lower third molar. 3. The total tooth size, including the lower second molar, appeared to be larger in the impacted group than in the erupted group of the lower third molar. 4. The arch length discrepancy of the impacted group was more severe in contrast with the erupted group of the lower third molar.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and evaluate what proportion is the characteristics in Korean dental arches with normal occlusion. Many others have already indicated Golden proportion in normal dental arches, but have not considered any racial and sociocultural differences. So the author postulated $(\sqrt{2})^n$ relations in Koreans. The materials were consisted of 134 dental casts with normal occlusion, which have never undergone orthodontic and prosthodontic procedures. Measurements were made on the arch dimensions using sliding caliper and data were computerized. The findings were as follows: 1. The width between the distal surfaces of the upper centrals, had $(\sqrt{2})^3$ relation with the width between the buccal surfaces of the upper 1 st premolars in Koreans. 2. The width between the distal surfaces of the lower laterals had $(\sqrt{2})$ relation with the width between the distal surfaces of the lower canines, and had $(\sqrt{2})^2$ relation with the distal surfaces of the upper centrals. 3. The width between the distal surfaces of the lower centrals had $(\sqrt{2})^2$ relation with the width between the distal surfaces of the lower laterals, and had $(\sqrt{2})^3$ relation with the width between the distal surfaces of the upper centrals.

  • After concrete casts, temperature decent and shrinkage bring volume changes of concrete pavement. Microcracking and cracking in concrete pavement are caused by these volume changes. As a result, durability of concrete pavement is deteriorated. Recently, Very-Early Strength Latex Modified concrete(below:VESLMC) from the beginning of High-Way is used as urgent repair material for bridge deck. The advantage of VESLMC is that compressive and flexural strength at 3 hours age are 4.5MPa and 21MPa respectively. It allows the traffic to open in 3 hours. But, this material has the problem which is early-age shrinkage cracking caused by water self-dissipation with rapid hydration reaction and water evaporation with body dry. Unfortunately, until now, the research about early-age shrinkage of VESLMC leaves something to be desired. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present the early-age shrinkage of VESLMC respect to latex contents and shrinkage ratio to maximum length change that can help field engineers' skill. Latex contents of 0, 5, 10, 15, $20\%$ in standard of same workability in VESLMC are selected by experimental variables. After initial set, shrinkage value was measured with 10mm LVDT for 3 days. The results of maximum shrinkage ratio were 0.019, 0.017, 0.023, $0.027\%$ respectively.
