Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review the thread embedding treatment studies of obesity in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Methods : We reviewed 59 studies on cat-gut-embedding treatment of obesity which were published from 2005 to 2012. The studies were searched using the data base-CAJ(China Academic Journals; 中國期刊全文數據庫)(2005~2012). Results : Selected 59 studies were divided into 27 case series and 32 control studies. The number of studies has increased since 2005, more rapidly in 2011~2012. Most case series reported were about effectiveness of thread embedding monotherapy treating obesity. Control studies reported were about effectiveness of thread embedding treatment compared with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and medicine. Most studies on thread embedding treatment of obesity showed that its effectiveness was very good. Conclusions : There have been many reports of thread embedding treatment studies of obesity in Traditional Chinese Medicine. We believed that these studies could be applied to the clinical practice and basic research in Korea.
Objectives To evaluate the evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy for primary insomnia. Methods The researcher conducted search across the 3 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ and Oasis) to find all of randomized controlled clinical trials(RCTs) that used Chuna manual therapy as a treatment for primary insomnia. Results Four RCTs met inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed positive results for the use of Chuna manual therapy in terms of the PSQI when compared to medication treatments alone. Positive results were also obtained, in terms of the PSQI, when comparing Chuna manual therapy combined with acupuncture therapy to acupuncture therapy alone, but was not statistically significant. Conclusions The review found encouraging but limited evidence of Chuna manual therapy for primary insomnia. We recommend clinical trials which compare the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy with usual care to obtain stronger evidence without the demerits of trial design.

Purpose To assess the safety and feasibility of intentionally positioning the catheter tip in the right atrium (RA) without an abutment during implantation of a totally implantable venous access port (TIVAP). Materials and Methods We enrolled 330 patients who had undergone TIVAP implantation between January and December 2016 and postoperative chest CT. The TIVAP was placed using the single-incision technique to access the axillary vein directly from the incision line. To position the catheter tip in the RA without abutment, blood return was checked before cutting. Catheter length and complications were evaluated by retrospectively reviewing medical images and records. Results All patients achieved successful catheter tip positioning without abutment or dysfunction. The median tip position was 15.3 mm distal to the cavoatrial junction (CAJ) on fluoroscopy and 6 mm distal to the CAJ on CT. Catheter tips migrated a median of 10.4 mm cephalically on CT compared to fluoroscopy. Thromboses were detected in the RA and superior vena cava in one patient each. Conclusion Intentional catheter tip positioning in the RA without abutment is a safe and feasible technique with a low incidence of thrombosis and no observed dysfunction.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to obtain some understanding about Korean medicine treatment on language disorder in cerebral palsy for future practice and the research, from the clinical studies. Methods: The literature was searched using the database-China Academic Journals (CAJ). Clinical studies of Korean medicine treatment for language disorder in cerebral palsy, including Randomized controlled trial (RCT), case control study, case series, case report were analyzed. Results: Fifteen Clinical studies met our inclusion criteria; One case study and six case series, one non-randomized controlled trial and seven RCTs. Acupuncture treatment, especially Head acupuncture, was the major treatment for language disorder of cerebral palsy in clinical studies, as it was used in fourteen studies. Acupoint massage, tuina, and acupoint injection were employed as treatment methods in the studies. Acupuncture treatment was used for language disorder of cerebral palsy combined with language therapy and other rehabilitation treatment in many studies. The effectiveness in the treatment groups, regardless of treatment methods, was higher than that of control group in all RCT studies. Conclusions: The results of this study could be used in the practice and the future study about language disorder of cerebral palsy.
Objectives: The Samguchup is a plaster therapy in winter to prevent and treat diseases occurring frequently in the winter. Studies on samguchup published in China were analyzed for our study in order to utilize in Korea. Methods: 15 studies with keywords such as 'Sanjiutie' or 'Dongbingdongzhi' published in CAJ (China Academic Journal) until July 31, 2012 were compared, in terms of clinical effects, herbs, acupoints, attatching time, and accompanying treatment. Results: Treatment rate ranged from 65% to 92.65%, in recurrent respiratory infection, cough, allergic rhinitis, asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea, and rheumatic arthritis. The herbs used more than 5 times were Semen Sinapis Albae, Herba Asari, Ginger juice, Radix Kansui, and Rhizoma Corydalis. The acupoints used more than 5 times were BL13, BL23, GV14, CV17, CV22, and EX-B1. The attaching time were usually 4 hours, but shorter for child. The Sambokchup, Korean medicine, moxibustion on ginger, drug(western medicine), injection, and inhalation were used as accompanying treatment. Conclusions Appropriate use of Samguchup is necessary to treat or prevent diseases in winter.
Objectives: This study was performed to review the research trends in the periodic therapy of dysmenorrhea in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Methods: We searched articles in Chinese Academic journal (CAJ). Search key words were 'dysmenorrhea' and 'periodic therapy or cyclic treatment'. Results: We selected 6 studies except unrelated studies. According to study design, study was classified into 1 single group before after study and 5 randomized controlled trials. According to dysmenorrheal type, study was classified into 4 studies on primary dysmenorrhea and 2 studies on secondary dysmenorrhea. In the selected studies, there were four studies in which the menstrual cycle was divided into 2 periods, one study divided into 3 periods, and one study divided into 4 periods. The most used herb was "Angelicae Gigantis Radix", "Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus". All studies showed effective results on dysmenorrhea. Conclusions: In TCM, Research on periodic therapy of dysmenorrhea was being conducted more actively than Korean medicine. The periodic therapy seems to be effective on dysmenorrhea from this research. It would be necessary to fulfill further clinical study with periodic therapy on dysmenorrhea in Korean medicine to establish standard evidence of them.

The aim of this study was to analyze the differences between Qigong and Daoyin as a therapeutic exercise of traditional Korean medicine. We searched Pubmed and Chinese Academic Journals(CAJ) over time periods from their inception to August 13th, 2013. We analyzed the systematic reviews of Qigong and clinical trials of Daoyin. Total 12 Qigong and 16 Daoyin(11 Baduanjin, 4 Wuqinxi, 1 unspecified type of Daoyin) articles were met our inclusion criteria. As the results of our analyzation, Qigong was dominant in chronic or incurable disease. On the other hand, Daoyin was dominant in internal diseases or functional improving of internal organs. As using "Qi" is in common between Qigong and Daoyin, they have not been differentiated in world of traditional Korean medicine. However, it could be better to use the Qigong and Daoyin according to their effectual difference.

This article is a study on to which categories of modern diseases qi deficiency pattern types are assigned by reference to modern clinical papers to analyze and understand modern diseases with the perspective of Korean Medicine. Clinical papers were searched in China Academic Journals(CAJ) of China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) from 1994 to 2013. Conclusions are as follows. First, qi deficiency pattern types are roughly classified as qi deficiency pattern, qi-yin dual deficiency pattern and qi deficiency pattern related with viscera and bowels. Second, there are many patterns combined with static blood, qi stagnation, phlegm, dampness, heat, toxin, water or fluid deficiency and the level of pattern designation is more specific than pattern types in Korean Standard Classification of Diseases(KCD), which makes the pattern types more useful to clinical application. Third, static blood due to qi deficiency is the most frequent combined pattern and diseases related with blood circulation such as angina, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) were reported on that pattern. The detailed relation between modern diseases and pattern types can be an another topic.
