Functional Analysis of the Putative BUB2 Homologues of C. elegans in the Spindle Position Checkpoint

  • Spindle position checkpoint monitors the orientation of mitotic spindle for proper segregation of replicated chromosomes into mother cell and the daughter, and prohibits mitotic exit when mitotic spindle is misaligned. BUB2 forms one of the key upstream element of spindle position checkpoint in budding yeast, but its functional homologues have not been identified in higher eukaryotes. Here, we analyzed the functions of two putative BUB2 homologues of C. elegans in the spindle orientation checkpoint. From the C. elegans genome database, we found that two open reading frames (ORFs), F35H12_2 and C33F10_2, showed high sequence homology with BUB2. We obtained the expressed sequence tag (EST) clones for F35H12_2 (yk221d4) and C33F10_2 (yk14e10) and verified the full cDNA for each ORF by sequencing and 5' RACE with SL1 primer. The functional complementation assays of yk221d4 and yk14e10 in ${\Delta}bub2$ of S. cerevisiae revealed that these putative BUB2 homologues of C. elegans could not replace the function of BUB2 in spindle position checkpoint and mitotic exit. Our attempt to document the component of spindle position checkpoint in metazoans using sequence homology was not successful. This suggests that structural information about its components might be required to identify functional homologues of the spindle position checkpoint in higher eukaryotes.

  • To determine the dental arch length and width in Korean yaung adults, various points (shown on Fig 1) were measured by means of Boley gauge on the 124 plaster models which obtained from 2 young men. BaMgF$_{4}$ 를 이용한 금속-강유전체박막-실리콘(MFS) 구조의 특성 (Properties of metal-ferroelectric thin film-silicon(MFS) structure using BaMgF$_{4}$)

  • Use of a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) technique is shown to improve the properties of metal-ferroelectric BaMgF$_{4}$-silicon structures. The fluoride film was deposited in an ultra-high vacuum system at asubstrate temperature of 300$^{\circ}C$. A post-deposition annelaing was conducted for 10 seconds at 600.deg. C in a vacuum of 0.1 Torr, using a home-made RTA apparatus. The results showed that the resistivity of the ferroelectric BaMgF$_{4}$ film from a typical value of 1-2${\times}10^{11}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ before the annealing to about 5${\times}10^{13}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and reduce the interface state density of the BaMgF$_{4}$/Si interface to about 8${\times}10^{10}cm^{2}{\cdot}$eV. Ferroelectric hysteresis measurements using a sawyer-tower circuit yielded remanent polarization and coercive field values of about 0.5$\mu$C/cm$^{2}$ and 80 kV/cm, respectively. the typical remanent polarization of the BaMgF$_{4}$ films ont he (100) and (111) oreientated silicon wafers were 0.5 - 0.6 $\mu$C/cm$^{2}$ and that of th efilms on the (110) wafers was 1.2$^{\circ}C$/cm$^{2}$.

울산지역 공단에서 발생되는 비산재를 이용한 제올라이트 합성 (Synthesis of Zeolite Using Discharged Fly Ash in an Industrial Complex in Ulsan)

  • 본 연구에서는 울산지역의 화력발전소 및 소각로에서 발생하는 비산재, 석탄계 비산재와 폐촉매를 이용하여 수열합성, 용융합성, 용융/수열합성법에 의해 제올라이트를 합성하였다. 석탄계 비산재(F-C1와 F-C2)와 폐촉매(F-W5)는 $SiO_2$$Al_2O_3$의 함량이 60.29~89.62 wt%이며, F-C1과 F-C2는 XRD 패턴 분석에서 quartz와 mullite를 포함하고 있었다. 석탄계 비산재와 폐촉매를 이용한 제올라이트 합성은 3가지 합성방법에서 모두 가능하였다. 석탄계 비산재와 폐촉매는 용융합성법에 의해 주로 Na-A형 제올라이트(Z-C1, Z-C2와 Z-W5)로 합성되었으며, 합성된 제올라이트(Z-C1 and Z-C2)는 비산재의 CaO 성분과 합성과정에서 첨가된 Na2CO3에 의해 불순물인 calcite 피크를 형성하였다.

Role of Berberis lycium in Reducing Serum Cholesterol in Broilers

  • This study was planned to investigate the role of Berberis lycium in reducing serum cholesterol in broilers. Six experimental rations designated as A, B, C, D, E and F having 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5% Berberis lycium were fed to 240 broiler chicks, randomly distributed into 24 replicates, so as to have 4 replicates per group and 10 chicks per replicate. The experiment lasted for 35 days. Average serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) were used as criteria of response. Average total serum cholesterol per chick was 129.33, 120.50, 116.50, 113.00, 101.67 and 114.00 mg/dl for group A, B, C, D, E and F respectively. Total serum cholesterol showed decreasing trend with the increasing level of Berberis lycium unto 2% (p<0.05). Mean serum triglyceride level per chick was 60.00, 58.17, 58.00, 55.33, 50.17 and 48.50 mg/dl for group A, B, C, D, E and F respectively. Mean serum triglyceride showed decreasing trend with the increasing level of Berberis lycium (p<0.05). Serum triglyceride was significantly lower in group F than other groups. Mean HDL per chick for the six experimental groups A, B, C, D, E and F was 52.08, 53.42, 60.42, 62.25, 62.92 and 54.50 mg/dl respectively. HDL showed increasing trend with the increase in the level of Berberis lycium unto 2%. The average serum LDL per chick was 65.25, 55.45, 44.48, 39.68, 28.72 and 49.80 mg/dl for group A, B, C, D, E and F respectively. LDL also showed decreasing trend with the increase in the level of Berberis lycium unto 2% (p<0.05). It was concluded that Berberis lycium added to feed at the rate of 2.0% can be used in broiler feed for reducing serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL and increasing HDL.

Thermal Resistance and daf-16 Regulation of Fermented Zizyphus jujuba Fruits in Caenorhabditis elegans

  • The mechanism of anti-aging of fermented jujube (Zizyphus jujuba fruits (ZJF)) was investigated using transgenic daf-16 and mev-1 strains of C. elegans. Jujube extracts fermented for 7 days (F7-ZJF) and 14 days (F14-ZJF) with Laetiporus sulphureus were treated to a NGM agar plate with 10-15 transgenic daf-16 and mev-1 strains of the synchronized age. There was no difference of lifespan between the drug-treated group (7-day fermented ex. (F7-zjf-200 ㎍/mL), 14-day fermented ex. (F14-zjf-200 ㎍/mL)) and the non-treatment group in both daf-16 and mev-1 strains. In the thermal stress experiment, F7-zjf-200 ㎍/mL showed a significant (t = 4.017) activity in thermal stress resistance with a 12% higher survival rate than the control group. In the survival test in H2O2, F7-zjf-200 ㎍/mL and F14-zjf-100 ㎍/mL have significant activity in oxidative stress resistance compared to the control group. This study indicates that life span expand of N2 strain of the jujube extract is related to the regulation of daf-16 and inhibition of mev-1 signal in C. elegans.

We deal with the $L^{\infty}$-version of the Hyers-Ulam stability of the quadratic functional inequality and the Pexiderized quadratic functional inequality $${\parallel}f(x + y) + f(x - y) -2f(x) - 2f(y){\parallel}_{L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)}\leq\varepsilon$$ $${\parallel}f(x + y) + g(x - y) -2h(x) - 2f(y){\parallel}_{L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)}\leq\varepsilon$$ based on the concept of linear functionals on the space of smooth functions with compact support.

Synthesis, Structure and Thermal Properties of Bifurazano[3,4-b:3',4'-f]furoxano[3'',4''-d]oxacyclohetpatriene (BFFO)

  • A novel energetic compound, bifurazano[3,4-b:3',4'-f]furoxano[3'',4''-d] oxacyclohetpatriene (BFFO), was synthesized through special etherification and its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal of $BFFO{\cdot}H_2O$ is monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c with crystal parameters of a = $9.324(4){\AA}$, b = $9.727(4){\AA}$, c = $10.391(4){\AA}$, ${\beta}=106.305(6)^{\circ}$, V = $904.5(6){\AA}^3$, Z = 4, ${\mu}=0.17mm^{-1}$, F(000) = 512 and $D_c=1.866g\;cm^{-3}$. Spectroscopic properties and thermal behaviors of BFFO were studied. BFFO presents good detonation properties.

화학선 증착법에 의한 $MgF_2$ 박막제조 (Chemical Beam Deposition of $MgF_2$ Thin Films)

  • We invesgated the fesibility of thin films deposition by pyrolysis of metalorganic precursors using chemical beam deposition (CBD) process. We attempted to understand the effects of deposition variables such as substrate temperature operating pressure effusion cell temperature and H2 partial pressure on the properties of MgF2 grown by CBD. Mg(tfac)2 was used as a precursor. MgF2 thin films were always grown in an amorphous state and crystallized bypost-annealing. he higher the substrate temperature and the lower the operating pressure the less the impurities I the deposited MgF2 thin films. H2 gas has to be supplied for the pyrolitic reaction of Mg(tfac)2 decomposition. MgF2 films annealed in H2 have lower C impurity than those annealed in O2. But their crysatllinity was independent of annealing atmosphere. The optimum conditions for the prepara-tion of MgF2 films by CBD process were as following : The substrate temperature 55$0^{\circ}C$ the operating pressure 10-4 torr; effusion cell temperature 21$0^{\circ}C$ the percentage of H2 100% Post-annealing in H2 gas was required to remove residual carbon and to form MgF2 crystalline phase.

Study on the Quality of Market Dahi Compared to Laboratory Made Dahi

  • 다히(dahi)는 원유를 이용하여 방글라데시 전통 방법으로 발효시킨 요구르트와 비슷한 발효 유제품으로 본 연구는 실험실에서 만든 다히(dahi)와 시장에서 판매되고 있는 다히(dahi)의 품질을 비교하기 위하여 수행되었다. 실험실에서 준비한 다히(dahi)는 (A), Kishoregonj 지역에서 수집한 다히(dahi)는 (B), Gazipur 지역의 다히(dahi)는 (C), Bogra 지역의 다히(dahi)는 (D), Dhaka 지역의 다히(dahi)는 (E, F)로 각각 구분하였다. 소비자 만족 품질은 심사위원들에 의해 100점 만점으로 판단되었으며 화학적 미생물학적 품질 시험은 확립된 방법에 의해 수행되었다. 'A' 타입의 다히(dahi)가 소비자 만족 품질에 있어서 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났으며 그 다음으로 E, D, F, B, C 순으로 나타났다. 화학적 시험 결과, 'B'타입의 다히(dahi)가 가장 낮은 pH ($3.75\;{\pm}\;0.05$)를 나타냈으며 'C'타입의 다히(dahi)가 가장 높은 pH ($4.46\;{\pm}\;0.15$)를 나타내었다. 'F' 타입의 다히(dahi)의 총 고형물, 지방, 단백질, 회분이 각 각 $318.40\;{\pm}\;4.44\;g/kg$, $52.00\;{\pm}\;2.00\;g/kg$, $44.33\;{\pm}\;2.00\;g/kg$, $10.76\;{\pm}\;0.31\;g/kg$으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 'B'타입의 다히(dahi)에서 total viable count (TVC)는 $94.00\;{\pm}\;4.58\;cfu/ml$, 효모가 $183.33\;{\pm}\;15.28\;cfu/ml$, 곰팡이가 $53.33\;{\pm}\;15.28\;cfu/ml$로 미생물학적 품질 측면에서 가장 좋지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 'A' 타입의 다히(dahi)는 TVC, 효모와 곰팡이가 각 각 $39.67\;{\pm}\;4.51\;cfu/ml$, $50.00\;{\pm}\;10.00\;cfu/ml$, $20.00\;{\pm}\;10.00\;cfu/ml$로 나타났다. 3가지 주요 품질을 고려하였을 때 'A'타입의 다히(dahi)가 가장 우수하였으며 그 다음으로 F, D, E, C, B 순으로 나타났다.
