The purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimal condition of the SynGas production by reforming of propane using plasmatron. Plasma was generated by air and arc discharge. The effects of applied steam, $CO_2$ or Ni-catalyst on propane conversion, yield of hydrogen and $H_2/CO$ ratio as well as correlation of syngas were studied. When the variations of $O_2/C_3H_8$ flow ratio, $H_2O/C_3H_8$ flow ratio and $CO_2/C_3H_8$ flow ratio were $0.94{\sim}1.48,\;4.3{\sim}10\;and\;0.8{\sim}3.05$ respectively, Under the condition mentioned above, result of $H_2O/C_3H_8$ flow ratio was maximum $H_2$ concentration, or $28.2{\sim}31.6%$, and result of $H_2O/C_3H_8$ flow ratio with catalyst was minimum CO concentration or $6.6{\sim}7.1%$ and the ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide($H_2/CO$) were $3.89{\sim}4.86$.
The effect of solvents on the stabilities of the $C_6H_6{\cdot}I_2$ complex and the $C_6H_6{\cdot}ICl$ complex has been investigated through ultraviolet spectrophotometric measurements. The equilibrium constants obtained at room temperature for the formation of $C_6H_6{\cdot}I_2$ complex are 0.090, 0.216 and 0.328$ lmole^{-1}$ in chloroform, cyclohexane and n-hexane, respectively. The corresponding equilibrium constants at room temperature for $C_6H_6{\cdot}ICl$ complex are 0.125, 0.676 and 0.689 $lmole^{-1}.$ These results indicate that the stabilities of the two complexes increase with decreasing dielectric constants of the solvents used, the increase in stability being more rapid in the $C_6H_6{\cdot}ICl$ complex than in the $C_6H_6{\cdot}I_2$ complex. This may support the conclusion that the dative ionic structures, $C_6H_6^+{\cdots}I_2^-$ and/or ($C_6H_6I)^+{\cdots}Cl^-,$ play important roles on the reasonance stabilization of both the $C_6H_6{\cdot}I_2$ complex and the $C_6H_6{\cdot}ICl$ complex, the roles being more important in the latter complex than in the former complex.
A new nickel(II) compound, $Ni(CH_2SiMe_3)_2((C_6H_5)_2PCH_2CH_2P(C_6H_5)_2)$, 1, has been prepared by the reaction of $NiCl_2((C_6H_5)_2PCH_2CH_2P(C_6H_5)_2)$ with $Me_3SiCH_2Li$. The compound, 1, is stable under nitrogen at room temperature both in solution and in the solid state. Thermal decomposition of 1 in solution or in the solid produces the reductive coupling product, $Me_3SiCH_2CH_2SiMe_3$ which is also afforded by the reactions of 1 with CO and $O_2$ at room temperature, and with $(C_6H_5)_2PCH_2CH_2P(C_6H_5)_2$ at 80${\circ}$C.

The water extract of Dancheonhwan (DCH) has been used to treat ischemic brain and heart damage in oriental medicine. However, little is known about the mechanism by which the water extract of DCH rescues cells from ischemic damage. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the protective mechanisms of DCH on the H₂O₂-induced toxicity in H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells. Treatment of H₂O₂ markedly decreased the viability of H9c2 cardiomyoblast in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. The nature of H₂O₂-induced toxicity of H9c2 cells resulted from apoptotic death confirmed with genomic DNA fragmentation. DCH increased the viability of H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells by about 23%, and partially suppressed the genomic DNA fragmentation and PARP cleavage. H₂O₂ also activated caspase-3 protease and -9 protease, but not both caspase-6 protease and -8 protease. H₂O₂ induced the mitochondria dysfunction, including mitochondria membrane permeability transition (MPT) and cytosolic release of cytochrome c from mitochondria, which was prevented in part by pretreatment of DCH. N-acetylcystein (NAC), a free-radical scavenger, alone increased the viability of H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the combination of NAC with DCH significantly increased the viability of the H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells in a dose-dependent manner. These data indicate that DCH has the protective effect on ROS-induced apoptosis of cadiomyoblast H9c2 cells.
B-doped hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H) thin films were prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition in a gas mixture of $SiH_4, CH_4,\;and\; B_2H_6$. Physical and chemical properties of a-SiC:H films grown with varing the ratio of $B_2H_6/(SiH_4+CH_4)$ were characterized with various analysis methods including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS), UV absorption CH_4spectroscopy and electrical conductivity measurements. With the B-doping concentration, the doping efficiency and the micro-crystallinity were decreased and the film became amorphous when $B_2H_6/(SiH_4{plus}CH_4)$ was over $5{\times}10^{-3}$. The addition of $B_2H_6$ gas during deposition decreased the H content in the film by lowering the quantity of Si-C-H bonds. Consequently, the optical band gap and the activation energy of a-SiC:H films were decreased with increasing the B-doping level.
Paper electrophoretic separation of octahedrally bonded (Ruc $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$ has been carried out by using the specially designed migration apparatus. The supporting electrolyte solutions are as follows: 0.1M-HCl $O_4$, 0.05 M-HCl+0.09M-KCl, 0.1M-HCl, 5$\times$10$^{-3}$ M-NTA, 0.01M-HCl, 0.01M-HCl $O_4$, 0.01M-citric acid, 0.01M-K $H_2$P $O_4$+0.01M-N $a_2$HP $O_4$, 0.05M-borax, 0.025M-N $a_2$C $O_3$+0.025M-NaHC $O_3$, 0.01M-N $a_3$P $O_4$, 0.01M-NaOH and 0.1 M-NaOH. The (Ruc $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$ appears in 2 to 4 peaks and is found in several chemical species such as (RuCl ($H_2O$)$_{5}$ )$^{2+}$, cis and trans (RuC $l_2$($H_2O$)$_4$)$^{1+}$, (RuC $l_3$($H_2O$)$_3$)$^{0}$ , (RuC $l_4$($H_2O$)$_2$)$^{1-}$, (RuC $l_{5}$ ($H_2O$))$^{2-}$ and (RuC $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$. The retention value has been found to be highest in the 0.025M-N $a_2$C $O_3$+0.025M-NaHC $O_3$ electrolyte solution.n.
Reaction of Rh $(ClO_4)(CO)(PPh_3)_2$ (1) with trans-$C_6H_5CH = CHCH_2OH$ (2) produces a new cationic rhodium(Ⅰ) complex, $[Rh(trans-C_6H_5CH = CHCHO)(CO)(PPh_3)_2]ClO_4$ (3) where 2 is coordinated through the oxygen atom but not through the olefinic group. At room temperature under nitrogen, complex 1 catalyzes dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, and isomerization of 2 to give $trans-C_6H_5CH$ = CHCHO (4), trans-$C_6H_5CH = CHCH_3$ (5) and $C_6H_5CH_2CH_2CHO$ (6), respectively, and oligomerization of 2 whereas under hydrogen, complex 1 catalyzes hydrogenation of 2 to give $C_6H_5CH_2CH_2CH_2OH$ (7) and hydrogenolysis of 2 to 5 which is further hydrogenated to $C_6H_5CH_2CH_2CH_3$ (8). The dehydrogenation and hydrogenolysis of 2 with 1 suggest an interaction between the rhodium and the oxygen atom of 2, whereas the isomerization and hydrogenation of 2 with 1 indicate an interaction between the rhodium and the olefinic system of 2.
Purpose : To evaluate the effects of X-irradiation on prenatal deaths, i.e., preimplantation deaths, embryonic deaths and fetal deaths, and on external malformations in precompacted preimplantation ddy mice Materials and Methods : Pregnant mice (n=85) obtained by limiting the mating time to from 6 to 9 A.M., were segregated into 11 groups. The first five groups (n=26) were irradiated with X-ray doses of 0.1 0.5, 0.75, 1.5, and 3 Gy, respectively, at 24 h post conception (p.c.) of the preimplantation Period. The second five (n=27) groups were irradiated at the same X-ray doses, respectively, but at 48 h p.c. of the preimplantation period. The last group (n=32) was the control group. The uterine contents were examined on the 18th day of gestation for prenatal deaths and external malformations. Results : 1) A statistically significant increase in preimplantation deaths with increasing dose was observed in the experimental groups irradiated at 24 h p.c. and in the groups irradiated at 48 h p.c., as compared to the control group. The threshold dose was close to 0.05 Gy and 0.075 Gy for the irradiations at 24 h p.c. and 48 h p.c. respectively. 2) A statistically significant increase in embryonic deaths with increasing dose was observed in all irradiation groups, except the group irradiated with a dose of 0.1 Gy at 48 h p.c.. 3) No fetal deaths were found in any experimental group. 4) In the experimental groups irradiated at 24 h p.c. anomalies increased with statistical significance, as compared with the control group : 2 exencephalies, 2 open eyelids, 3 anophthalmias, 2 cleft Palates, 2 gastroschisis, 1 abdominal wall defect. 1 leg defect, and 2 short tail anomalies: the threshold dose for external malformations was close to 0.2 Gy at 24 h p.c.. In the groups irradiated at 48 h p.c., 1 open eyelid and 2 short tail anomalies were observed, but there was no statistical significance in those malformations. Conclusion : The results of this study reveal that X-irradiation of precompacted preimplantation ddy mice causes not only preimplantation deaths and embryonic deaths but also external malformations. In addition, external malformations were observed in our experiments at diagnostic doses, including 0.1 and 0.5 Gy. For this reason, we recommend that irradiation should be avoided during the preimplantation period by applying Rugh's 10-day rule.
Chromium(Ⅵ) compound, [$C_9H_7$NH]$_2Cr_2O_7$ has been prepared by the reaction of isoquinoline with chromium trioxide under the presence of water. [$C_9H_7$NH]$_2Cr_2O_7$ is nonhydroscopic and dissolved in water very well. Structure of [$C_9H_7$NH]$_2Cr_2O_7$ is identified by FTIR spectra and elemental analysis data. The ability of [$C_9H_7$NH]$_2Cr_2O_7$ for the oxidation of alcohols were examined in methylene chloride. [$C_9H_7$NH]$_2Cr_2O_7$ was found as efficient oxidizing agent for the conversion of allyl, primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones.
The geometrical parameters and binding energies of the benzene ion-water complex [$C_6H_6^+-(H_2O)_n$(n=1-5)] have been investigated using ab initio (MP2) and density functional theory (DFT) with large basis sets. The harmonic vibrational frequencies and IR intensities are also determined to confirm that all the optimized geometries are true minima. Also zero-point vibrational energies have been considered to predict the binding energies. The predicted binding energy of 8.6 kcal/mol for $C_6H_6^+-(H_2O)$ at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory is in excellent agreement with recent experimental result of $8.5{\pm}1$ kcal/mol.
