  • In this paper, we consider an inventory system where a single supplier purchases and processes raw materials into finished goods in order to deliver finished goods to a single buyer for effective implementation of Just-In-Time Purchasing. An integrated multi-item lot-splitting model of facilitating multiple shipments in small lots between buyer and supplier is developed in a JIT Purchasing environment. Also, an iterative solution procedure is developed to find the order quantity for finished goods and raw materials, and number of shipments between buyer and supplier. We show by numerical example that when the integrated policy is adopted by both buyer and supplier in a cooperative manner, both parties can benefit.

  • The compression behavior of semi-solid materials in studied from a viewpoint of yield criteria and analysis methods. To describe the behavior of materials in semi-solid state, several theories have been proposed by extending the concept of plasticity of porous compressible materials. in the present work, the upper-bound method and the finite element method are used to model the simple compression process using yield criteria of Kuhn and Doraivelu. Segregation between solid and liquid which cause defect of product is analysed for Sn-15%Pb alloy is compared with the experimental result of Charreyron et al..

  • A new compound, 3-acetoxylanosta-7,9(11),24-triene-26-al (3), and seven known compounds (1 - 2 and 4 - 8) were isolated from Ganoderma tropicum (Jung.) Bres. collected in Tay Nguyen, Vietnam. The structures of these compounds were determined by one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and high-resolution ESI-MS, and by comparison with literature data. All of the isolated compounds were tested for nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction activity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae-stimulated RAW 246.7 cells. Among them, compounds 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 enhanced the NBT reduction in a dose-dependent manner.

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have been gaining academic/industrial attention due to the unique high efficiency and minimized pollution emission. SOFCs are an electrochemical system composed of dissimilar materials which operates at relatively high temperatures ranging from 800 to 1000oC. The cell performance is critically dependent on the inherent properties and integration processing of the constituents, a cathode, an electrolyte, an anode, and an interconnect in addition to the sealing materials. In particular, the gas transport, ion transport, and by-product removal also affect the cell performance, in terms of open cell voltages, and cell powers. In particular, the polarization of cathode materials is one of the main sources which affects the overall function in SOFCs. Up to now, there have been studies on the materials design and microstructure design of the component materials. The current work reports the effect of thin film processing on cathode polarization in solid oxide fuel cells. The polarization issues are discussed in terms of dc- and ac-based electrical characterizations. The potential of thin film processing to the applicability to SOFCs is discussed.

  • Generally, sound-absorbing materials in vehicles are used for giving the comfort to passengers by reducing noise while driving. Materials of which targets are light weight, high performance, eco friendliness and recycling have been developed recently. In this study, sound-absorbing materials using PET(polyethylene terephthalate) hollow fibers to achieve the light weight and the high sound absorption performance are developed, and then evaluated to meet a requirement for the automotive components. The test results show that the acoustic performances of developed products having new fiber structure are better than those of the conventional product.

  • S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine(AdoHcy) is the product of all biological methylation in which S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet) is utilized as a methyl donor and is reversibly hydrolyzed to L-homocysteine and adenosine by AdoHcy hydrolase physiologically. Inhibition of this enzyme results in intracelluar accumulation of AdoHcy leading to a feedback inhibition of AdoMet-dependent methylation reactions which are essential for viral replication. • The cell spheroid (multicellular mass) is enhanced cell functions because of the cell-cell interaction compared with the individual cell. The objective of this study is synthesis, characterization and evaluation of novel crosslinkers to form spheroid in a short time. Our approach to bridge cells is based on the crosslinking of the cell membrane via the hydrophobic interaction. The crosslinker was prepared by the reaction between ethylenediamine and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) derivative with oleyl group as hydrophobic group at the terminal group. The product was characterized with gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and FT-IR. Furthermore, cell culture experiment was also performed to confirm spheroid formation. The function of prepared spheroids was evaluated.

  • Blast furnace slag(BFS) is well known for its hardening mechanism in ordinary Portland cement with alkali activation due to its latent hydraulic property. The possibility of using calcium compound as activator for BFS has been investigated in this study. The hydration properties of calcium compound activated BFS binders were explored using heat of hydration, powder X-ray diffraction and compressive strength testing. Heat of hydration results indicate that the hydration heat of BFS is lower than OPC paste by about 50%. And ettringite as hydration product was formed continuously as the calcium sulfate was decreased. The maximum compressive strength of hardened BFS mortar at 28 days is confirmed to be 83% as compared with hardened OPC mortar.

  • The recent development of electro-optic devices and anticorrosion media has led to the necessity to investigate infrared optical systems with solid-solid interfaces of materials that often have the characteristic of amorphousness. One of the most promising classes of materials for those purposes seems to be the chalcogenide glasses. Chalcogenide glasses, based on the Ge-Sb-Se system, have drawn a great deal of attention because of their use in preparing optical lenses and transparent fibers in the range of 3~12 um. In this study, amorphous Ge-Sb-Se chalcogenide for application in an infrared optical product design and manufacture was prepared by a standard melt-quenching technique. The results of the structural, optical and surface roughness analysis of high purity Ge-Sb-Se chalcogenide glasses are reported after various annealing processes.
